Isight doesn't work with one computer

the whole family got isight cameras for christmas. as long as we're all in the house we can see each other on our cameras, but when i take my laptop out of the house to another location, i can see my stepdad's computer, but not my mom's.
i've checked with the cable modem people- no firewalls there. i've called apple- no ideas from them.
firewalls are OFF on all three computers, preferences for ichat AV are all the same on all three computers.
i can see video with pc's and other macs, including the apple test ids (appleu3test01, appleu3test02).
pc's can't see my computer, the only mac that can't see me on my computer is my mom's.
any ideas?
my computer: powerbook g4; os10.4.3
mom's computer: powerbook g4; os 10.4.3
stepdad's computer: desktop g5; os 10.4.3

  Hello Anita. You have a good start and are doing the right things.
Here is how I recommend you continue your trouble shooting to find the SOURCE of your problem(s?) so you know what to fix. Otherwise EVERYONE will need to try EVERYTHING.
I suggest that you disconnect everything except one ethernet connected Mac from your home internet connection as suggested in Using iSight with iChat AV. Begin testing with other Mac users (you can use these if you need additional Buddy Names for iChat Test) to find ONE of your available Macs that can connect for reliable video from ONE of your available internet connections. Then, try the next Mac from that known good connection.
If none of your Macs work when connected directly to your Broadband modem via ethernet cable, first Check your Broadband Speed to be certain you have enough bandwidth.
You should also consider Possible hardware or software conflicts.
Then, if bandwidth or conflicts are not your problem, try any applicable suggestions from Help for iChat AV 3 Problems until you get ONE Mac working. This will establish a known good internet connection.
Concentrate on ONE Mac until it is working with other Mac testers. Then fix the next Mac.
Finally, you can begin adding back other items (if any) such as a router, wireless, etc., to your know good modem to find any problems associated with your connection devices.
If you need to post back, let us know whether your successful video connection inside your house was via Bonjour or via the AIM server.

    Hi, I have probably the same or related problem.
    After I made the upgrade to 10.8, the camera (integrated iSight) started making problems.
    When I log out or restart, everything works (PhotoBooth, Skype), but after a couple of days running
    the integrated iSight can not be accessed any more. Skype and PhotoBooth say "no camera".
    About my configuration:
    I have a 15" Macbook Pro Mid 2009, 2.53GHz with Nvidia 9400M 256MB RAM.
    I hope the coming update 10.8.2 will fix it.
    This is the my first time, where after an upgrade something stops working.
    I would almost say, this must related to Sleep/Resume because I never shut down my notebook,
    except for calibrating the battery.

    Hi there, I can get my iChat to work with some of my buddies, I did try appleu3test and it did work for me and for this problematic buddy, I even asked one of my "working" buddies to invite first my difficult buddy, and then invite me for multi chat and all went like a whiz. I do not get the problem. Firewalls set according to Ralph's recommendations, tests do work, other buddies do work, but me. What can be wrong?
    It is PB G4 and MBP

    This is either
    1) a firewall issue
    2) a NAT issue
    3) or a modem that has difficulty with iChat and SIP issue.
    Can you tell us what modems and/or routers are being used and what has been done to set them up, please ?

  • Sound doesn't work with one player but does with two...

    I'm running the Win7 Release Candidate and have Flash Player 10 installed.  Today when I tried to play a video on youtube, there was sound for a split second, and then it cut out while the video continued to play.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Flash with no success. Then I tried opening up two tabs and played a video in each tab, and suddenly the sound was working again.  This happens in both Google Chrome and IE8.  I have normal sound in all other applications.  Any suggestions?

    is the driver for your network card up to date?  that could be a reason it will not work with the more up to date HH3
    If want more assistance from the forum members please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .
    are you connected directly to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
    Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
    Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

  • Cd drive doesn't work with one CD.

    I have one Cd that will not play on my tangerine iBook. I put it in, it slows the whole thing down, and I have to prematurely turn it off. My brother has an indogo, that plays the CD fine. All other Cds work on my clamshell, but this doesn't. The Cd works in Os 9 also, so what's the deal?

    What kind of cd is it? I've run into a problem with burned cd's from machine to machine. I always thought that one cd drive is more picky than others. My old indigo Imac had a hard time with burned music cd's, but they played in my Clamshell...and I belive they have the same cd drives.
    Try cleaning the clear optical lense with a q-tip and alcahol gently.
    See if that helps.

    The iPhone can maintain multiple pairing records, but it can only connect to one headset or hands-free device at a time. However, in your situation there may be a solution. You can connect the iPhone via Bluetooth for calls and use the 3.5mm jack on your iPhone and car radio to connect for music.

  • Ichat doesn't work with one buddy - can't figure out why!

    It has to have something to do with the internet connection and the way they have it set up but I can't figure it out.
    My family all has macs - there is no problems with video chatting through our AIM accounts until we try and hook up with my parent's imac. It works for a second and then freezes. We are all at different locations so I can't imagine what the problem could be. It works just fine if both computers are using my parent's internet connection, it's just when we are trying to connect with them from our own connections.
    Not sure if it matters but my parent's imac in fairly new, they bought about 5 months ago. Like I said, I have a feeling it's the settings on modem or router but I'm not sure what to try. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what we can try???

    What router or Modem do they have ?
    What Error log number are you getting ?
    Old Logs are in your Home Folder/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors
    Error 20 (No data for 10 secs) can be caused be a feature in the router at the far end.
    They should turn Off any DoS (Denial of Service) or SPI (Stateful packet Inspection) as both are threshold based and cut the port that is giving "Problems" (iChat can send so much data in Video chats over modern Internet Speeds, the device will think it is an Attack)
    Error 22 is a Speed/bandwidth issue
    If they are on Leopard they should go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and select 1.5mbps (The Automatic Setting can be too low)
    In fact all ends should do this for Tiger and Leopard computers.
    iChat will need Restarting afterwards to "See" the new speed.
    There are other possible numbers but those are the most likely based on your description.

  • Touch id doesn't work with one particular finger

    Touch ID will recognize my right thumb when initially set up, and then recognition deteriorates .  I have set up other fingers and they continue to work fine, its only the right thumb.  I have even reset device, and it will work like a charm for a few days and then same problem.  Sound like an odd problem, but I have reset phone and finger print enough times to see that the problem actually exist. Common sense would say use other fingers, but my right thumb is the dominate finger and most convienant to use.  Any ideas?

    Have you tried cleaning your thumb to remove oils and dirt that will cause recognition to deteriorate? Also clean the Home button thoroughly.
    You also need to go through the entire touch setup that should capture you entire finger print instead of only catching a partial record.

    No, that's a rather silly conclusion.
    There are two options:
    stop using the crappy router provided by the ISP.
    Physically connect the ATV to the router via Ethernet.

  • Installed Snow Leaopard and your isight doesn't work? Here's one solution

    Hi,
    My father in law has the white intel macbook (1,1).
    After installing SL his camera worked for a bit and then with 10.6.1 caput.
    Tried all possible solutions from here and other forums.
    SMC didn't work.
    PMU didn't work.
    Re installing SL didn't work.
    Clean re install didn't work.
    Still said vendor specific on Profiler.
    So I figured, what the ****....I can might as well try a new approach.
    - I reinstalled Tiger (yet, Tiger).
    Still vendor specific.
    - I downloaded and installed the iSight fix found here:

    - Reboot and then Tiger asked to fix permissions. Yes. Reboot.
    - Profiler, recognized iSight, but it said that one application was using the camera. No biggie. Disregard.
    - Upgraded to SL 10.6 and still operational.
    - WILL NOT upgrade to 10.6.1. Not for a few days. It was a long night and don't want to repeat it
    Hope this helps someone.
    Also, if you don't have Tiger, try installing 10.5.x. The isight fix patch works with anything prior to SL.

    I was having the same issues as everyone else, as well as having the no zoom on the camera problem.  I removed the battery while the phone was still on and put it back.  Now all my problems seem to be gone.  My Blackberry is recognized again when I go into media manager, and my zoom works.  It seems to me to be worth a try for anyone expirencing this problems.
