ISight for PC

POSSIBLE?

Yes. However, you will have to live with the limits of what PCs can do with iSight.
If available, a Mac version of software that does what you want with iSight will let you access iSight's full feature set. http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
If you must use a PC app for your intended purpose and have difficulty configuring iSight, even a low-cost PC compatible camera will likely be a better choice.

  • ISight for talking with Windows AIM people

i recently bought an iSight for my iBook and am still unsuccessful in chatting over iChat with my friends who have Windows AIM. any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

There's an update triton states it works with ichat av now I pulled it from
    http://aimtoday.aol.com/features/mainredesign.adp?fid=videoim
What Do I Need To Use AIM Video IM? To use AIM Video IM both you, and the person you want to Video IM with, need the following:
    · Latest Version of AIM: Download AIM Here
    · The Windows XP Operating System or Apple iChat AV version 2.1 or later
    · 64 MB RAM more
    · 233 MHz or faster processor
    · A web camera
    · Internet connection
This new version of AIM called Triton is supposed to work with (or it at least acknowledges the existance of) Ichat and Isight though I've heard ramblings that earlier versions of triton actually created problems with using ichat (maybe the bad press had them rethink the strategy of purposely disabling the compability) that link above actually included the additional XP files a pc user might have to download. (ALL OF THIS just to get a web cam to work?!! No wonder AOL is losing customers)

Q: Is AIM Triton compatible with AIM 5.9, AOL 9.0 and iChat?
A: : AIM Triton works seamlessly with AIM 5.9, AOL 9.0 and iChat. You can send and receive instant messages with your buddies using any of these clients. Certain features may not work across all clients at this time. Voice Chat with more than two people only works with other Triton users. Video Chat will work only between two Triton users at this time.

  • Built-in Isight for External Monitor with Macbook closed

    Hello Apple Community,
I'm having trouble using my built-in iSight through my external monitor. My set-up is that the Macbook is closed and I run everything through an external monitor. I'm unable, however, to use that external monitor's iSight with any applications. They either say that there's no camera available or something along those lines. The iSight shows up in the system profile under USB, and I've tried resetting various things, but all of that seems geared more to the macbook than to the monitor. I've also woken up the macbook (where the iSight works fine) and tried mirror/non-mirror modes. When I use a camera-based application via the macbook, it doesn't give me an option of which camera to use, relying only on the macbook's. Is there a way to use the external monitor's camera instead?
    Thanks,
    Abe

Does one of these help you, Abe?
    (1) Your Profile "Products" info shows " MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.1) ".  If this is correct, you may be using an early MBP and/or display.  Have you checked for the firmware update? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3957
    (2) Consider Apple's suggestions from the "If the built-in iSight camera, microphone, speakers, or USB ports on the display are not working:" section of http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2400
    (3) If you are using a non-Apple external display, contact the seller or manufacturer for help.

  • Can u use a USB webcam on an iMac with built-in isight for Yahoo Messenge?

Hi...I hope someone can shed some light on this.
I have an intel core duo iMac 20 with built-in isight.
I use Yahoo Messenger (the new version) and have no problems getting my isight to work with it.
For most circumstances, the built-in isight is fine... but sometimes having a camera with a zoom feature and the ability to pan further up or down would be most beneficial.
I also own a usb Logitech (pro-4000) webcam (the last series for which they have Mac support) and have installed the latest Mac drivers for it. I can get the Logitec to run its built-in applications, but when I try to select a webcam to use for Yahoo (in the yahoo preferences webcam section), the only selection available to me is the built-in isight.
Is there any way to get the option to choose between the Logitech and the isight?
I tried macam drivers, but that just gave me an application that allowed me to record video or snap pics from my Quickcam, Yahoo Messenger still does not recognize it as a source.

macam driver and macam component installation resolves this issue

  • Built-in iSight for MacBook Pro OS X 10.4.11 Not working

This was working before, and all of a sudden it won't work! I can see it in the system profiler under USB, but in PhotoBooth it comes up as a green screen and in applications like Skype and iChat I just get a black screen (or once it showed that I did not have any video connected). All of my software is up to date, I have restarted a dozen times, I tried to take the battery out, but nothing works!
Let me know if anyone can help!

    Hello MOVA
    Thanks for that new info.
If you have not installed any new hardware since your Mac worked correctly, it is possible that your problem may be hardware related. However, here are a few other ideas that you can try before you take your Mac to an Apple Technician for service.
To avoid possible conflicts while you do your testing, disconnect all unnecessary peripherals, restart your Mac, and make sure you do not have any running "Login Items" that might conflict with iSight apps.
    (1) It is worth trying another account. Use System Preferences to create a new account and test there. It will not take long and, if a new account corrects your problem, it is a much simpler remedy than some other possibilities.
    (2) It sounds like you have followed the suggestions in the Troubleshooting link for the reset. If you are not CERTAIN, repeat the process to be sure.
    (3) Some iNtel Mac laptop users have reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight. You might want to try disconnecting EVERYTHING, including both power and peripherals, for a few hours to see if it help you.
    (4) If someone might have removed the QuickTime file shown in MacOS X Hints article to purposely disable your built-in iSight, you will need to restore the file to its correct location in order for your built-in iSight (or any other USB camera) to work.
    (5) Apply the 10.4.11 Combo Updater. Use the following method:
    • Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    • Repair permissions. (Click here if you need help.)
    • Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel).
    • Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
We will watch for your status update (and, hopefully, your notice of success.)

  • Need drivers for built in iSight for Windows XP Parallel Desktop

I'm trying to get my iSight built into my MacBook Pro to work in my virtual computer run on my Mac using Parallels Desktop 4 on and the virtual operating system is Windows XP. So the drivers need to be Windows compatible. I don't want to have to use a third party external camera when I have a built in one. The iSight will not work on Windows Messenger for Mac so I have to use my Windows operating system to make it work. I have not seen any downloadable drivers for the iSight on the Apple sight that would work for Windows. I would appreciate someone directing me to some if they exist.

Thank you so much for the help. I'm running Snow Leopard, so the specific references did not match exactly, but I was able to find my way. I had to finagle trying to get the drivers to load and be recognized by Windows XP, but it eventually did after a couple restarts and a few choice cuss words! Thanks again.

  • Using the built-in iSight for flash video applications

The main question I have is how do I get my camera to turn on with my browser to use a Flash movie application? I know you can use it for the like: iChat, Photo Booth, iMovie. But I have no idea how to get it to work with the internet. Any suggestion would help me in any direction.
    Thank you

I like the idea to put a camera in the computer.
I have not seriously used a macintosh since 1992, when I was in 2nd grade. Ever since I tinkered on my dad's mac now and then when he was not looking. But, I need to know where in the settings do I go to enable the built-in iSight camera to work on the web or any flash application

  • Built in iSight for Mac Book not working (Hardware related)

I've looked at the "How to troubleshoot iSight" page for the built in cameras, but haven't had any success.
The problem is not Application specific (tried it out with Photo Booth, iMovie, iChat and Address Book.
I haven't tried to see if it's user specific as I'm the only user on my computer, but I have backed up my Hard Disk on an external drive, booted from that, and it still doesn't work (the backup was from several months ago when it did work.) I had been using it yesterday and it worked.
I checked the system profiler, and it does not recognize the iSight.
I followed the instructions for resetting the SMC or PMU for Mac Book/Mac Book Pro (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319) and then checked the system profiler again. It still doesn't work.
I think I have a hardware issue that isn't easily solveable, but thought I would post here in case anybody has any more ideas. One thing I did notice however that seemed positive is that the built in microphone still seems to be working. I was under the impression the microphone and iSight were part of the same device, although it seems that may not be the case.

  • IMac built-in iSight for use as an IP webcam?

    Hi,
I'd like to get a live picture from my iSight via the internet, is it possible without buying extra software? How would I do this? I came across a forum response that said to look in Internet Sharing but there's no webcam or iSight in the list.
The iMac is on 10.4.11 btw.
    Thanks.

The simplest (though not necessarily the most reliable) free way I know for 10.4.11 is via Yahoo! Messenger for Mac (YMM.) It works easily for some users, but some report a lot of trouble.
YMM is NOT Apple software, so, if you decide to try YMM, see the YMM instructions or Yahoo! Help if you need assistance.
After you have installed and configured YMM, select "View My Webcam", and your webcam will be broadcast over the web. Image update frame-rate depends on the speed of your Mac and your internet connection. Once you are broadcasting, you (or anyone else who know the address for your webcam) can view it in Yahoo! Messenger on their computer.
Many other software applications can stream webcam images. See this page:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013310
However, the ones that are easiest to use will cost you a few dollars.
Depending on the specifics of what you need to do, you might also be able to do what you want for free using one of the browser-based video chat sites listed in that link above or in this web search.

  • Need suggestions for good webcam (not isight) for  OS 10.4.9

I never would have thought it would be so hard to find a webcam for my powerbook! Simple question, Who makes a good one now that isight isn't made anymore? I want to use it with Skype and iChat. Thanks!!!

Today I just bought the quickcam fusion which works well... I just plugged it in and it worked - I didn't install any software (windows only software comes with the camera), so I'm not sure if I can take advantage of features such as "rightlight 2", which enhances the video under low light, and I don't think that I can take 4MP images with it - just video conferencing with ichat (which is what I bought it for) (and I just found freakshow - which is like photobooth).
Make sure you get the UVC version of any webcam...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4401596&#4401596
It's kinda difficult to figure out which cameras are UVC compatible - I just looked at the table in the following link and picked the quickcam fusion with the "rightlight 2". The one with just "rightlight" is not UVC compatible.

  • ISight for short video

Hi all I am interested in buying an iSight mainly for using to record video on my lap top using Quicktime Pro.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to be able to record 10 minuet guitar lessons for guitar students around the world, and be able to email these video lessons to them.
Here is my set up PowerBook G4 12" 1.5Ghz with 512 ram using OS 10.4.2
If I buy an iSight will it give good enough quality video for demonstrating jazz chord progressions and solo's etc with live talking and explanations.
Also how much disc space would a 10 minute video take? It seems that Quicktime pro can handle file size once the video is captured. Is it possible to record to and external hard drive?
I am used to using digital audio but totally new to the world of video, so any advice or ideas would be great. I have a video camera but would like to keep it "simple and inside the box" if possible.
    Thank you all in advance,
    Safe times to all,
    NoteFarm

    Philippe,
Yhank you for the quick reply. Thats great news. And thanks for the advice on using iMovie. I will most certainly give that a go.
    Thanks again,

  • IMac iSight for Windows 7 on Bootcamp?

I have installed Windows 7 using Bootcamp.  iSight does not work.  Any tips?

    HI,
To add to EZ Jim's info.
In Previous OSes Boot camp Assistant helped you create an CD of window Driveers fro various bits of Apple Hardware.
Later versions had those Drivers on a Windows Partition of the Install Disk.
You then placed the Install Disk for the Mac OS back in the drive when running Boot Camp's windows install and it would find the Windows Drivers.
Lion seems to want you to create a USB stick/Thumb drive version of this after downloading them with the help of the Assistant.
I have not done this yet.  I have new iMac that I want to put Boot Camp on to but I can't find what I did with my XP windows Install  disk.
