Isight g5 external stops working

My isight just stopped working. tried everything but no luck.
i have a imac g5, external isight. my isight works fine on my old g4.
on the g5 it is not recognized in the system profiler, but the firewire port works, as i can see my ipod and ext. hard drive there. tried changing cables, no luck.
was working about one month ago.
dont know what else to try.
tried standard restarsts, and disk clean up etc.
please help.
imac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hello, drmonaco,
my fire wire ports recognize my other peripherals but not... seen easily in system profiler.
Your iSight works correctly on your old G4 and is recognized by your G4's System Profiler. I find it amazing that it could NOT be recognized when connected via your G5 ports that work with all other Firewire devices.
Recheck to see if you have missed any of the suggestions (following or already made.)
does changing my modem effect it?
If your iSight has worked properly at some time after you configured your new modem, I would think you can rule out modem issues. At any rate, I wouldn't think the new modem and configuration could have anything to do with your G5 iMac's System Profiler not recognizing your iSight.
i have no other ideas.
To use any external USB camera with iChat AV, you need to add iChatUSBCam. (Check their "camera guide" to be sure your camera is supported.)
Trying the USB camera might have damaged the camera info in your iChat preferences files. To rule that out, quit iChat if it is running. Then delete the " com.apple.ichat.plist" file from your Home/Library/Preferences folder. Restarting iChat rebuilds default .plists for any that are missing. However, when you restart iChat, you will need to be reset some of your iChat preferences (the ones that are stored in the file that was deleted.)
Having already applied the 10.4.8 Combo Updater and and possible conflicts, if your problem persists, consider any other relevant suggestions from Apple's Tech Article titled iSight: How to Troubleshoot that you may have missed.
Your thorough testing has clearly ruled out your iSight as the cause of the problem. If you are using the same iSight Firewire cable on both your working G4 and the iMac G5 that has problems, you can also rule out the Firewire cable.
i cant seem to check it in another program... rec. the isight.
I understand that you will not be able to test your iSight at all until you can get System Profiler to recognize it. That is why we concentrated on System Profiler recognition in my previous post.
If your iSight is still not recognized by your System Profiler after all this, unless you have new information, the only suggestion I nave left is to take your iMac, your external iSight, and your Firewire cable to an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for professional check.

they are connected. When I try video chat in iChat the green light comes on and connects like it's a one way video chat... when I try and switch to the display monitor's iSight the green light switches to the other monitor, but the camera is still black... I tried this with Facetime, Skype, and Photobooth, all nothing... Any insght into this would be great. I'm thinking that it could be an internal hardware problem with the machine... Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)

    Welcome to Discussions, -Jonathon
Here are the solutions that help most users who encounter green-screen problems. None are complicated, but the only way to find which one will work for you is to try them one-by-one until you find the one that fixes your Mac.
    (1) Check your System Preferences as explained in this kbase article about Built-in iSight camera produces blue or green pictures.
    (2) If your System Preferences are set correctly, try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article.
Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
If you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting, see this Help article.
    (3) If resetting or the other suggestions do correct your problem, try the following:
    • Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    • Repair permissions. (Click here if you need help.)
    • Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (iNtel).
    • Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
    (4) A few iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight.
    (5) If none of these suggestions help, contact Apple or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for a professional check.

  • Why does my iSight camera periodically stop working, requiring PMU reset?

    Just wondering why this happens?
Using a Feb 2011 Macbook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.4
It seems that every time i use my built-in iSight camera, then the next time i go to use it, it can not be found.  This requires that I reset the PMU, which is kind of annoying.  Then it works for a few weeks and the cycle of iSight begins again.
Why does this happen?  It seems pretty trivial to consistently recognize a camera which is wired into my computer.  Is there something I could do to prevent this from happening again?  I have tried turning it on and off again.
And currently, this article is linking to the reset instructions for Intel iMac instead of the Macbook Pro page...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
    Thank you

One of the following will fix it.
    (0)  If you need help with the following suggestions,
you might rather contact your local retailer or
Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for help.
They can help you or determine whether your Mac
needs hardware service or only a software problem.
    (1) Close all open apps that use the camera and then
try again with only one app running at a time.
If the problem continues, delete any Log-In items and
Dashboard Widgets that might be using your camera.
    (2) Try Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
Be sure to use the correct SMC/PMU reset procedure
for your particular MBP model: model with a battery
you should not remove on your own
If these suggestions do not help, yours may be a
hardware problem that will require a professional fix.
Unless you have a current backup, make one now.
Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:
"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."
    (3) If you want to try one more thing on your own first,
you can use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then
download and apply the latest Lion Combo Update:
          http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1524
Repair permissions again immediately following the
system restart that completes the Combo update.
Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  See your AASP for hardware problems.
dcunited001 wrote: ... article is linking to the reset instructions for Intel iMac instead of the Macbook Pro page...
The article actually has THREE links to TWO different SMU/PMU reset instructions:
        • iMac G5 (iSight),
        • Intel-based iMacs;
        • MacBook and MacBook Pro
You should use the last one ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 ) Yes, it is the same article as for iNtel-based iMacs, but it is the correct one for you.
The important thing is to page down to the section entitled "Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)".   Then click the reveal triangle ( ▶ ) to see and carefully follow the specific reset instructions for "Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".  This is the proper reset process for your "Feb 2011 Macbook Pro".

  • ISight suddenly stopped working

My iSight suddenly stopped working in the middle of a Skype connection. It had been working correctly: my contact heard me and saw my image. Then, the sound suddenly was lost, and after that the image. The green light on the iSight went off. If I plug the firewire cable into another port, the light comes on for a few seconds, then goes off. The iSight is identified in About This Mac. I took the iSight to the local Genius Bar, and it worked perfectly on 2 other Mac's. I was advised to re-install the OS with archive, but isn't there anything more simple?

    Hello George,
... isn't there anything more simple?
Here are some things you can try.
    (1) If you used your own iSight's cable when you tested your iSight at the Genius Bar, you know neither the cable nor your iSight is the problem.
You can test your iSight with other applications to determine whether you have problems with more than one. Also, consider the link there to Apple's "iSight: How to Troubleshoot" suggestions.
    (2) If your only problem is with Skype, consider reinstalling Skype or check out Skype's great Help section. Skype even hosts its own discussion forums dedicated to Skype specific issues.
    (3) If your iSight has problems with more than one application, consider whether your Mac OS X Maintenance is up to date. Maintenance is the first thing I check when I begin to experience minor problems or system slowdown.
    (4) If your problem persists although your OS X Maintenance is current, download and apply this Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC). Finish with another Permissions Repair and check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
The Combo Updater will be much simpler than an A&I reinstall.

  • ISight Built-in camera on MacBook stopped working

    Hello,
It seems that my iSight camera stopped working after the system update two days ago. I checked several solutions (like reset of SMC, creating other test account...) however this does not solve the issue. I also checked the system profiler and there is simply no iSight mentioned there (in the USB group). I don't have green screen when I launch the Photo Booth, it just shows the black frame with a white sign of no camera available. Same with Skype. I think the system (Leopard) just lost or does not recognize the camera anymore. Could someone come with an idea of fixing it please?
    Thanks a lot in advance,

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Yashper
If you have not done so recently, repair permissions (not "verify") and try using your iSight again.
If your problem persists, be sure you have tried all the suggestions relevant to your system from How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If your iSight is still not working or visible in System Profiler as a USB device when you have selected the items shown in this picture,
download and reapply the Mac OS X 10.5.1 Update. Repair permissions before you run the updater and again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
If none of these things fix your problem, (and if you have not made any other software or hardware changes that might be causing the problem), contact your retailer, Apple, or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • Isight Stopped Working After Installing Quicktime Software Update

This afternoon when I logged into my Macbook, it automatically detected new software update for Quicktime. As always, I let the computer download and install the software. However, this time it created a lot of problems for me. First, I couldn't connect to my network (I use Airport Express) although the signal was strong. After reset modem, router and Airport, finally I could get on network. However, then I found out my Isight stopped working. The light on the right side of the built-in camera was always on (green). My Photo Booth screen appears green all the time. I no longer can use Skype video chat. Does anyone encounter the same problem? Can anyone help me out? I use Macbook, the operating system is OX 10.4.3. Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Freepisces
I have all the latest updates on my Macs, and I have no problem at all.
If you applied the latest (7.4.1) QT update, your problem may be due to the fact that the System Requirements for QuickTime 7.4.1 for Tiger include Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later, and you show that you are using Mac OS X (10.4.3). You can check which QT version you have installed using the QuickTime Player > About QuickTime Player menu command.
If your QT version is an older one that is compatible with your Mac OS, and if you have not done so since you applied the QT update, repairing permissions may help you.
If the problem is somehow related to your iSight rather than to your QT software, Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight may help you identify and fix your problem.
Unless you have a compelling reason for not doing so, you should consider updating to the latest version of Tiger (10.4.11). To find out what improvements you are missing by staying with 10.4.3, see some of the "About the Mac OS X 10.4.xx Update" documents for updates later than 10.4.3. A couple of examples are:
    • About the Mac OS X 10.4.6 Update (combo) and
    • About the Mac OS X 10.4.11 Update
If you are interested, other "About..." documents are linked in this search list.
Because System Requirements for the latest combo applicable to your MacBook, Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (Intel), are for Mac OS X 10.4.4 or later, you will need at least two steps to upgrade from your Mac OS X (10.4.3), so pay careful attention to the System Requirements of any updates you plan to apply.

  • ISight stopped working on my macbook pro

Over the past couple of days my iSight has been randomly stopped working. I will be on iChat and all of the video icons will turn into phone icons as if I do not have a webcam. I check iChat and it says "There is no camera attached to this computer." I open photo booth and nothing will show up.
The problem was off and on for awhile but now it just has stopped working entirely... I've restarted my macbook and it doesn't change anything.
I really don't know what to do... Please help!

    Hello Professor Tim
    ... MODERATOR PLEASE HELP!!
What help do you need from a Moderator? (Apple currently calls them Hosts.)
If you can tell me what you need a Host to do, I can pass them a message.
Shouldn't need a Service Center call....
As another long time Mac user, I can offer you some other suggestions that may help you resolve your problem without a trip to an Apple Service Technician.
Because you are having problems with multiple (but not all) applications, I agree that your problem is software. All Apple video capable apps use components from QuickTime in addition the software in the application proper. If reinstalling the two apps that do not work does not resolve your problem, try reinstalling QuickTime, too.
If none of those reinstalls help, some of your other OS X system software may be damaged. How I eliminate that possibility and restore proper function is shown in this post:
       http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9458954&#9458954
If you have a Time Machine Backup, restoring your system software and problem applications from before your problem began may be the quickest and simplest way to repair the software component that is causing your current symptoms.  (Remember to backup important files separately before you begin restoring software.)
If you do not use Time Machine, or if your Time Machine restore does not provide lasting resolution, you can always try a proper Combo Update reinstall, A&I, and Erase&Install as suggested in the link above.
You can try Apple's suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 at each stage or your restore effort to determine which action corrects your problem.
We will watch for your response. Hopefully, you can report a fix!
    Cheers,

  • Satellite P300: Display Driver has stopped working using external monitor

I have a number of these Satellite P300 PSPCCA-OC201Y and recently bought external monitors for them.
Since then we seem to be getting "Display Driver has stopped working and has recovered" messages, then after about 5 of these, it crashes.
Starting with one machine, I have updated display drivers, bios was current, all to no avail.
I then did a complete system restore back to original. Has not solved the problem.
    Any ideas?

    hi Keven Dickenson,
as you said you restored the system and still there is no way to get things work it may be a hardware issue...
i my opinion you should consult a servicepartner to check this out...
is there any of the machines working with the external monitor at all?
if none of them is able to connect to ext. display maybe your installation has a problem or the monitor is faulty...
try it with another monitor and recover one system to factory installation....

hello can apple help me out.i am from Pakistan, i received iphone 4s as a gift, it was purchased in canada last march 2012. unfortunately its screen stopped working and inside screen when i try to look with external light. there was message "iphone disabled for 60 minutes" i tried restore but could not it downloads update but does not do anything i am heck upset its really something means to me alot. I tried to find out warranty claiming process but here in pakistan it has not been officially launched. Why so ? in a country where 50% people are using iphone and apple is not there? i was really shoked. well i really need help.please guide me how can i get it replaced or anything that can be claimed in warranty.it is still on warranty. But i am in pakistan where i can not find any istore where they deal with warranty. Please guide me i have studied alot and have read stories about people having same experience and apple helped them alot. I am amazed that i been giving marketing presentations on a brand which is not in my country but heared much "good" about you. and was having great experience of your device. Please dont make it true what i have heared about you.
    Regards.

Try restoring the iPhone to factory settings. If you are having difficult restoring, put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and see if that then works:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If not, or if a restore to factory settings does not fix the problem, then your iPhone may have a hardware problem. You can only get the iPhone serviced by Apple in Canada, so you will have to take the iPhone there or send it to someone you know in Canada who can get the iPhone serviced and send it back to you. The only option for getting service in Pakistan would be to pay some unauthorized repair shop to attempt a repair, after which Apple will no longer provide any service even in Canada.
    Regards.
