ISight - Image reversed in iChat

While I understand that in Photobooth it is possible to select the option to "reverse" the image taken from the camera, it appears that the iSight camera creates only a reversed image when used with iChat.
Is it possible to make the camera work properly, so that the image created is as if you were actually looking at the person??

Built-In iSight Image Reversed

When using iMovie HD with my built-in iSight, the image I see is reversed instead of mirrored. I can't find a fix anywhere. Any ideas? BTW, the image is fine in iChat AV and Photo Booth.

A zillion years ago I read Martin Gardner's "The Ambidextrous Universe", and although I seemed to take in and understand his descriptions of why a mirror reverses things left-for-right, but not up-for-down, I can't now remember why that is.
We think nothing of driving a car, looking forward through the windscreen/windshield, then looking up at the rear-view mirror, re-accommodating (converging our eyes towards a nearer object), re-focusing (to a different distance), having everything we see swapped over left-for right, and still we make accurate split-second judgments about distance, speed, safety, etc, involving things both ahead of and behind us!
We look in a mirror, and without - seemingly - a second thought we can touch any particular spot we see on the face there, but hold your watch up to the mirror and - especially if it has a seconds hand - it takes a while to figure out what you're looking at.
It's a shock when you first see yourself as others see you - and it's a shock when you see the face of someone you know reflected in a mirror; their features are all the "wrong way round"!
I well remember.. <..drones on like this for several hours..> ..so I insisted on going back home. But I was about nine at the time.
<back on topic> But, of course, iMovie comes with that great 'Mirror' effect, which lets you set just how much of your clip gets reversed left-for-right. Useful for swapping the first appearance of Roy Batty, the replicant, in "Blade Runner", so that the image is restored to being the "right way round", if you want to..

Why won't my iSight webcam work with iChat?

I have an iSight webcam and a Power Mac G5. I can't get the iSight to work with iChat, but it works with Yahoo Messenger, although the image is choppy. I have cable internet access, and I am connected to a wireless router (though not wirelessly, but with an ethernet cable). Is the router somehow interfering with iChat and the iSight camera?

If you click on the green Video icon next to your own Buddy pic at the top of the Buddy List do you see your Preview ?

Isight not working with ichat but works with Google talk and photo booth

In message beta it say that I have no cam. But in device manger it lists isught under usb.

sorry I lost ichat because it was replaced by with beta of the new message app (dont renember being asked if that was ok )

Built Isight black image with yahoo ichat or skype

The cam works fine in Photobooth. I tested it on iMovie and it works there too. In Ichat, skype or yahoo a black screen appears.
Any ideas why it stopped working? Ithink that is a preferences o something like that.

Hi,
Go to System Preferences > Network.
Choose the connection method you are using in the second drop down. (Or click on it in the list)
Select the TCP/IP tab if it not the front one.
This should list your IP.
It possibly Says "Using DHCP" rather than anything else if still at default.
It lists the Sbnet Mask
DNS servers and the "router" IP (This will noramlly be the modem unless you have a router as well)
Make a note of these numbers.
The "Router" Ip is probably the same one that you typed intoa Web Browser to access the dset up pages
It is just a question of turning Off DHCP in the Modem
On the TCP/IP tab you then need to set it to "Manually" where it says USing DHCP now.
Then you need to type in the IP for your computer. (It can be anything between .1 and .255 as the last number EXCEPT for the number the "router" has)
So for a Linksys for example the "router" IP and set up access IP is 192.168.1.1
Under DHCP your computer may well get 192.168.1.100
The Subnet Mask will be 255.255.255.0
So you will type
192.168.1.xxx where xxx is any number but 1 in this case.
Then Subnet Mask and type 255.255.255.0
DNS servers are whatever was there before or what your ISPs DNS servers are.
Then type in the "Router" (For this imaginary Linksys it is 192.168.1.1)
Use the same link I oringinally posted and choose the App you want to have ports open for in the second page rather than iChat
The IP to type in when setting up Static routing is the one you choose for your computer.
It can be anything like I said except for the IP the "Router" (Modem) already has for it's set up pages.

ISight imaged appear reversed in still and video images - can I fix it?

When I use the built in iSight camera on my new iMac, all photos and video appear backwards.....in a photo or video take with the iSight camera all the letters on my t-shirt are backwards! Crazy. Do you know how I can make it take normal photos and video?

Brand new MBP built in iSight image corruption

I bought a new 15" MBP in September. 2.8 Ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb HD, one of the nicer, new models.
I haven't had a need to use the built-in iSight since then, but as I'm going abroad for a year in a few months and will be keeping in touch with my fiancee using it, I decided to give it a try and make sure everything is set up right.
Every time I turn the camera on it starts working just fine but within about 15 seconds it freezes, with multi-colored lines stretching across the last frame that it displays. Once it does that you need to quit whatever application you're in that is using the camera, let the camera turn off, and then re-launch the app, after which you get about another 15 seconds of functionality.
It does this across multiple apps. I have tested Photobooth, iMovie, and iChat and all show the exact same problem.
Some googling has suggested that I clear the PRAM (did nothing) and clear something that's name escapes me right now (I had to hold down the left hand alt-ctrl-shift keys with the computer shut off and press the power button), but neither of those fixes did anything.
Is this a hardware issue, or is there something else I can try?
here is a link to a picture that shows what this "corruption" looks like - Photo Booth at least has no problem actually taking a picture while the camera is frozen up like this, but it can't take any other picture than the one the camera gets frozen on.

You are wise to practice with your iSight before your major travel.
For any iSight trouble, start with Apple's "How to Troubleshoot iSight"

If your iSight problem occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there sometimes restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, the image you linked and all the things you have already tried lead me to believe that yours is most likely a hardware problem. Unless the Troubleshooting corrects your problem, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service. If your new Mac was bought from a local retailer, your retailer may be able to offer the best and fastest help.

ISight image is too dark

I bought this iSight used from a friend and the image is too dark. My friend never used it so, he doesn't know anything. When I use iChat, Skype or Photobooth, the image is just too dark. I have looked endelessly for a solution and can't seem to find it. The box didn't bring a cd driver. I don't even know if it ever had one. Is there anywhere I can go to so I could change the webcam settings or any software that I must require to have?

You can adjust and brighten your iSight settings using iGlasses:

If the image is really, really dark, it could be a more serious issue.
One known issue is a problem that can happen after installing Boot Camp. Take a look at this thread if you've installed Bootcamp:

Black spot in iSight image...

I just received my new iMac G5 20in iSight today...and I love it. However, using iChat and PhotoBooth I noticed that there is a small black spot in the upper left corner of the image. According to other posts, it doesn't seem to be possible to open the case and clean the inside of the iSight at all... Is my iMac defective?

Problem with animated gif when direct image sharing over iChat

Im having an issue that an animated gif isnt displaying animated when I drag and drop it into an instant message window with a buddy. I drag it from Firefox animated into the chat window but its doesnt get animated. I can see his gifs are animated when he drags and drops it from Safari into the chat window. Does the internet browser make a difference, or is there an option I haven't turned on. I tried searching through the preferences and haven't got a clue to what's stopping my gifs from being animated during direct instant message session.
Im using the latest iChat 5.0.3(745).

Isight not working in Ichat/ yahoo

I sight works fine in photo booth but when i try to use it in I chat it wil lsend a request, the other person accepts and then it comes back saying i never accpeted.... Same thing happenes on yahoo .. I see the video image its trying to send to them sooo the video is there, ,and working .. just chat programs wont send it right.. help?

You can use the suggestions in How to test your (external) iSight to ensure it is functional to determine whether your Firewire iSight needs professional help. Fixes for the problems that users can correct are covered there, too.
There are NO user serviceable items inside iSight. If your external iSight works with NO application that uses iSight in ANY user account on ANY Mac, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
If your local Apple Service Technician has difficulty finding needed parts, you or he can contact http://www.synaptech.com. They have told me that they will help users obtain any parts that are still available.
If you do not have local access to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, use the info from Apple's iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions. That page contains the link to Apple's on-line "iSight service request form".

ISight not working in iChat

I have iChat 4.0, and after restarting a few times, iSight still isn't working with iChat. iSight works in other applications, just doesn't seem to like iChat. iChat gives me the message that another program is using the iSight, but that's clearly not the case, because iSight's light isn't on, so...
Any ideas?

You probably don't need it, but the Tiger "iSight Updater" is located in the \System\Library\CoreServices\iSight Updaters\iSight Updater folder.
(You must look manually because SpotLight does not find it.)
Double click the "iSight Updater" there to run the Firmware update manually.

iSight "Product Revision Level" in your Mac's System Profiler shows the installed firmware version for external (Firewire) iSight.
Firmware 1.0.3 Update offers only "Improved audio performance". It does NOT enable audio or any other function, so that is NOT your problem with Skype or YMM. Search or post in their dedicated help/discussions for best and quickest help with those specific, non-Apple apps.
Regardless of whether System Profiler utility shows Firewire iSight's Firmware (Product) level of 1.0.2 or 1.0.3, external iSight ought to work. You can test your external iSight using the suggestions on this linked page:

Image reversal in PDF

When converting a document from Word 2007 to PDF using Acrobat 9 PDFMaker, the images in the resulting PDF appear to have the text inside them mirrored. The image itself is the same, only the text is reversed. This does not occur when the file is printed using Adobe PDF printer - only using PDFMaker. The current image settings in my PDFMaker/Adobe PDF printer are ZIP for color and grayscale, and CCITT G4 for monochrome. All fonts are embedded in the file. What is causing Acrobat PDFMaker to mirror the text within these images and how can it be corrected?

How to identifiy Faulty Driver in Boot Image (Reverse Engineering of Adding a Driver to Boot Image)

I'm having a new EliteBook 820 G2 here which Fails PXE boot due to a false corrupted
Intel Advanced Network Service Virtual Adapter-Driver.
The PROBLEM now is how to determine under Boot Images - Properties - Drivers ... the correct one.

Over the months, I injected different ones. smsts.log indicates me that this driver is the problem but how can I reverse engineer it to find the correct version/timestamp whatever it on my DP

in theory at least there is a way.
The driver loading in windows will select the best driver based on the PNP-id, version of driver, if it's signed and so on.
you can find the PNP deviceID for that hardware on a installed system by looking in device manager.
After that you can follow the same rules that the system uses to determine which driver it would load by reading the inf files for each driver.
Would it be faster to just create a new one - most likely.
I also would recommend that you create a dedicated driver folder and category in SCCM for WinPE and only add the drivers you need. I prefer to use Original vendor drivers here (aka nicdrivers straight from Intel instead of DELL or HP or ... repackaged
