ISight in FCP-YES
While I'm trying to get my HVR-A1U working in Final Cut, I discovered the really easy way to get an isight to work in Final Cut. For some reason my camera isn't being recognized my Final Cut, so I refreshed AV devices (option+F12) and all of a sudden I saw my MacBook Pro's built-in iSight in the capture window.
All I did was open the capture window, with the color bars up pressed option+F12, and the isight's image came up in the capture window. That easy.
I did a search and noticed that someone was asking for instructions on how to, but nobody seemed to remember. Also, the manual does NOT list this, a search for iSight in the pdf reveals nothing.

Using motion projects in FCP and having problems...
A co-worker of mine is having an issue with a motion project that is being placed into FCP. Every time he imports it, the contrast is diminished and the color gets washed out making the image look VERY washed out and flat. He has even tried to export the movie with various codecs and settings, but the same thing still happens. We are cutting a movie shot on the new Sony XDCam cameras. It was shot in 720p 24FPS @ 35mbits Everything looks great except this particular motion file. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

It probably is faster but you just dont know it yet! If you had a day free you could time the two different methods.
Of course the second workflow comes into its own when you need to make changes. Open up the motion project and tweak. The changes automatically update in FCP. yes you have to watch in fcp, but your not outputting and reimporting etc. Also you dont have to render in fcp you can simply export.

If you're capturing from a controllable device that recorded timecode and use the proper capture settings in FCP, yes.

What frame rates does FCP 7 support?
The manual does not mention 1080p60 once while it enumerates virtually every other resolution, frame rate and interlaced/progressive that typical camcorders can record. I thought that meant it did not support 1080p60, but it is clear from several posts here that it does support it. Does FCP 7 support 1080p60 with some restrictions? Does FCP 7 support any frame rate--say 5,000 frames a second that a high speed camera might generate? Thanks, Dennis
It supports 1080p60...that is 1080p at 60fps (because 1080i60 means 29.97 fps)...but you have to modify things. That is a non-standard format. BluRay discs don't play that, only one high end tape format supports that format. Because of this lack of real support for this format, barring very high end, it isn't a general setting in FCP.
yes, there are cameras that shoot that format. And I suppose they are meant to have you play back from the camera, or SD card player (some BluRay players do this).

FCP supports editing of professional broadcast formats. Cameras that shoot 5000fps, generally are meant to then output that to one of the broadcast formats...23.98, 29.97. Thus getting that slow motion. You don't edit 5000fps. NO editing app edits 5000fps. It gets converted to the proper frame rate, then edited. The Phantom camera files are converted for editing.

How do I turn the camera off?

Look in the Dock to see if any apps that use iSight have the little mark by them. The mark indicates that a particular application is running, but it does not tell you anything about iSight. The green light is the only indicator that iSight is active. Note that even when you have quit all other apps, the Finder will still have the mark because Finder is always on (when you are using OS X.)
Also check System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items for any that might be launched automatically at every startup.
Finally, check Widgets to see if any that use iSight (Mirror, etc) are running. Restart your Mac (but not the widget) if you cannot make a running iSight widget stop any other way.
How do I turn the camera off?
Quit all apps that use iSight. In normal operation, individual apps control your iSight for optimal performance with each app. You stop (or start) the iSight when you stop (or start) the apps that operate it.
If your problem persists, restarting the Mac may resolve unusual behavior.

Unless you have added third-party add-on software, the answer above applies. If you have added software that gives manual iSight control (such as iGlasses) rather than allowing the apps to control you iSight in the normal fashion, see the add-on's documentation for instructions on how to use the add-on or uninstall it if you continue to have difficulty with it.

Since doing a Fusion upgrade on my Mac Air, the inbuilt camera has stopped working, now states its not connected when on Skype or Face Time?

HDV codec missing after Archive & Install?
I use FC Studio (FCP 5.0.4), QT 7.2
Last Thursday I began importing HDV for a project from a Sony HDR FX-1E (HDV 1080i) with all the capture settings set properly. Capture results were fine.
Yesterday I had to Archive and install Tiger due to some severe font issues which were affecting the performance of the machine.
Today it seems some of QT's HDV codecs have gone missing, even with the software updated and running. I can open the clips in QT and hear sound, but no picture, only white screen. I can't set sequences properly in FCP either. It tells me a codec is missing and it sets the QT compressor automatically to "animation".
Is there any way to solve this? Do I have to reinstall FCP? I am already seeing my monday morning deadline slipping away! If anyone can offer any advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you do... After an archive & install quicktime is reinstalled in its standard configuration... The HDV codec is ususally installed by FCP... -
The video is SD mini-dv shot on canon gl1 (old school) and looks fine in the viewer after log and capture. But when inserted to timeline it has jagged edges and exports very pixelated making me and client tres unhappy. This has not happened on other projects shot with this camera. Thought it might be compressor but happens when exporting from FCP too. Thought removing color correction filter might help but that doesn't make it any less jagged. Burned through Toast. Would deinterlacing help? Any other suggestions?

It's only a camera issue if you modified the shooting settings between your last gig and this one. I've never used this Canon, don't know what it can do.

this just isn't possible without deliberate decisions on your part. DV is, as we say, DV. Your timeline is DV. Your export, unless you have changed something, is DV. For your export to be pixelate, you must decide to increase the compression dramatically. You can check the accuracy by setting up an export of a a known clip and comparing the size of the original and exported file, they must be exactly the same. If tghe export is smaller, it is being compressed.

Deinterlacing throws away one field of information. That will not help because the field that remains is still going to look jagged or pixelated.

Mind Boggler, Apple Support No Help, FCP 6 Disables iSight?
Here is my problem. I have narrowed it down to Final Cut Pro 6 being the application disabling my iSight on initial startup. I have a brand new 13.3 MBP. Fresh install OS Snow Leopard. I installed each program then tried iSight and it went out after I installed FCP 6. Say I start up my machine go to Photo Booth, Says there is no connected camera. Exit the app and then re-open Photo Booth. It works. I cant find any preferences or info relating the two, or even preferences in the system library for Photo Booth. Apple said they have never heard of this. I took my machine to the Apple Store they replaced the MBP isight worked came home installed all my software got the problem. They said if that were to happen it would be a software related problem so I fresh installed and did each program individually and narrowed it down to FCP. The only thing that was in the Startup folder was Apple QMaster preferences so I deleted those and still have the problem. I cant figure it out what so ever. Any ideas?
Before I retire for the rest of the night I should mention a few more things.
The entire computer was re-setup clean. Full erase and install of OS X 10.4.10 and clean install of FCS2.
I did use the Render Manager to erase all render files and tried again... multiple times.
I restarted the G5 each time and tried rendering with no other apps running.
I've repaired permissions.
At least one time I came back to the computer and FCP was just closed with no crash or warning messages. Every other time I get a message allowing me to send a report to Apple. I've sent the report only once since the crash report is the same (I compared them).
I tried re-importing the project from the original project file.
Originally, before I was told by others to answer "no" to the field question on import, I answered "yes" to that question and was able to render every sequence in the project without any issues. After being told to answer "no" I deleted the project and render files, reimported the project, and am now trying to render again.
If you're wondering why I would want to work on the project some more I'm thinking of doing the color correction all over again using Color so I can see if I get better results than with Magic Bullet Editors Look Suit or Colorista. This required me to convert the 5.1.4 project to 6.0.1. I know it's not recommended, but I want to give it a shot anyways to see if I can improve the project.

FCP 7 crashes when choosing "yes" to changing of sequence settings for Flip
I've been doing quite a bit of work with the Flip HD video camera recently. I grew tired of rendering everything, so decided it was time to finally upgrade from FCP 5 to FCP 7.
However, FCP 7 crashes every time I try to lay down video files from the Flip camera onto a timeline.
Upon laying the files down onto the timeline, I am prompted with the message asking if I want to change the sequence settings to match the video. I click yes and immediately get "General Error" and FCP crashes.
I tried trashing the preferences. same result.
I tried updating FCP 7 to FCP 7.0.1. same result.
I even tried updating fixes for iMovie as if that would have anything to do with it. same result.
I'm currently rendering it out the same way I had been in FCP 5.
Any advice or ideas?AVC is h.264, which is not a work-able editing format, it's a delivery format (and a consumer video camera acquisition format suitable for holiday videos going straight to YouTube), that's why you've been having to render all the time in FCP 5.
Now you're in FCP 7 and it's asking if you want to change the sequence settings to match the video, but there is no sequence setting to match AVC/h.264 so it's freaking your computer out. Still, it shouldn't crash, but that's the problem i believe.
You need to correct your work-flow by transcoding your media into something usable like ProRes, or you can choose not to change your sequence settings, and render the timeline as you have been doing in the past. -
Using 48KHz & 32KHz in the same FCP sequence. Some say yes, some say no?
Can anyone please, please help resolve the conflicting info I'm getting regarding using 48KHz & 32KHz material in one sequence.

Yes, system must be robust to manage it. My sense is that if all heck breaks lose I can convert the audio I end up using in the cut, as opposed to converting all of the dailies. Thus far, capturing in both 48 & 32 and cutting into one sequence, I have not had render or playback, sync issues. Interestingly, I simply can't bring myself to treat music from a CD in same manner. 32, 44.1 and 48 in one sequence? Makes me shudder.

FCP will not open on my new iMac G5 (iSight)
I have i have FCP 4.5 and just recently accquired a new 20" iMac G5 (iSight). I installed FCP on my new mac and it doesn't want to start up. I get a message that says "Configuration error: This software requires hardware or software which is missing. AGP graphics card."
Has anyone else heard of this problem and if so how can you fix it?
I greatly appreciate in advance to any and all help.Well I found the Final Cut Pro 4 'info.plist' (Made a copy of it first) and opened it and found 'AGP' and replaced it with and typed in 'PCI'.
(The 'info.plist' file opened up in some software called 'Omni Outliner', any idea what this is?)
Clicked on Final Cut Pro 4 and now it works!
