ISight in Flash websites potential fix

I know a bunch of us are having problems using our built in iSights on certain programs or websites after the 10.6.5 OS X update.
My own iSight works fine in iChat and Skype and the Skype 5 Beta. It doesn't work on its own in Flash based websites, nor in Yahoo Messenger.
I was able to get it to work for a hot minute in Flash websites after installing the Flash 64 bit beta, but that was very short term.
I have found another solution, but it is a bit processor intensive. It involves having ManyCam installed. In the Flash options, if you have ManyCam installed and running (and set to use your built in iSight), you can choose two ManyCam options: ManyCam RGB and ManyCam Ybr Rbr Br. By doing this, I have found that my iSight will work in Flash based websites again.
Now, I don't say go out and get ManyCam, as for some reason using it is VERY CPU intensive, but if you feel you need to have your cam in Flash based websites, this is a possible solution for you.
This solution did not help in Yahoo, however.

That's interesting info.
As Google Web Based Video chat was at one time Flash Based and now they have the Plug-in - it suggests that the Google Plug-in maybe somewhat reversed engineered from the Flash way of doing things and that the Colour Space on the Google Plug-in is the cause.
Installing the Standalone, Intel Mac only, Plug-in for Web browsers for GoogleMail Web page Chat also installs a Updater app that checks with the Google Website at what seems like hourly intervals (I run Little Snitch and had it set to Deny this connection but Little Snitch tells me every hour or so it has done the denial)
The Plug-in is also part of the Chrome Install.

Embedding SlideshowPro in a Flash Website

Hello everyone at the Flash forums!
I am currently trying to make a Flash website for my cousin's business, and his website should feature a portfolio gallery to display the work he has done (He is a contractor). I am trying to use the SlideshowPro plug-in which generates a very nice-looking Flash gallery that is about 50 times nicer than the one he is using on his website at the moment. One of the big things I like about SSP is that it offers a full-screen picture viewing mode, which would allow potential customers of his to see work he has done better than they are currently seeing.
However, whenever I publish the website to test it and make sure everything is working okay, I go to the Portfolio page and test SSP in full screen. Once I come back from full screen, the gallery remains on top of the screen on every other page of the website. The audio also does this (It can play audio in the background while looking through the galleries you set up). Since I am somewhat new to Flash, I am not sure why it is doing this. Perhaps someone else has encountered this and has a fix or workaround that I could use.

Edit: I am not sure whether or not it is relevant, but I have the gallery set to appear in frame 117 and the Home button is set to go back to frame 115, before the gallery should even show up.
Edit 2: I finally figured out how to get the gallery to not appear on other pages (Yippee!). However, the audio is still continuing to play when I navigate away from the Portfolio page.

Alright, just figured I would update you guys. I redid the website so that it ran at a higher framerate and kept everything else the same as it was. As stated before, SSP is showing up right, but the audio still isn't working right. I've tried all of the AS codes I've been told to try and none of them have worked. It keeps telling me that every single code I've tried is not a function, so I don't know what I am doing wrong there.
Also, not really related to SSP: I did add a contact form to the website, and I am now having problems with that not wanting to submit the data to the mailer.php file to send the form information to the designated e-mail address (I keep getting, "Error #2044: Unhandled securityError:. text=Error #2048: Security sandbox violation: http://sagesportfolio.webs.com/website.swf cannot load data from http://www.sagesportfolio.webs.com/mailer.php. at website_fla::MainTimeline/frame544()", minus the quotes). If anyone might be able to help with that, too, I would highly appreciate it.

Firefox 3.6.8 still having problems loading heavy Flash websites

Upgraded to latest 3.6.8 Firefox version and noting it is still having issues loading heavy flash websites. Takes 5 to 6 times longer to load a webpage if there is Flash on it. I do have the latest version of Flash installed according to Adobe's website so that's not the culprit. Will be uninstalling this latest version and rolling back to the copy of 3.6.3 version I kept which worked great with all flash websites. Waiting for the problem to get fixed before I update again...hoping they can fix this. I noticed this problem starting back with version 3.6.6 and still hasn't been fixed with 3.6.8...

The strange thing is that whenever I load the page with Firebug activated for this page, it renders the Flash instantly. But hardly ever (it does happen now and then, but mostly not) when I'm not using Firebug. I have tried disabling all plugins, running in Safe Mode, but it didn't help. I use Mac OS X 10.6.4 64-bit, FF 3.6.8. Ideas, anyone?

(This is a possible solution for most users) I have found that inside the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash (WinXP Home/Pro) (Computer > C: Drive > Windows > System32 > Macromed > Flash for Vista) there should be a file named FlashUtil10b.exe (IF NOT YOU SHOULD UPDATE AS SPECIFIED!) (or FlashUtil10a.exe or for older versions something similar depending on your version), which is the update utility for flash player. Click on this and if it updates, you will have to restart your computer. This should fix any missing files, and update you to the latest version.
On a side note to all those who read this, I downloaded and installed 5 different times, the same version, from different websites, all for the "new" flash version, and they didn't work (this also included trying to update Shockwave player itself). Apparently, going directly to the website and downloading a new version of Adobe Flash Player, and installing, doesn't uninstall the older version, (though it says it does nor does the uninstaller work directly from the website) nor fixes the problem. I assume they are aware of this problem, because they included this bug fix in revision 10b. This fix should work for those of you whom cannot view/see flash images as well. There also appears to be a bug/reference problem with the installation of IE8 giving the error "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA", when trying to play a Shockwave/Flash file, which seems also to affect Firefox and other browsers. It doesn't recognize that the folder or files that it needs in it, exist. I never had his problem before, until IE8 was installed. I checked which version I had in the system32 folder and found this updater built in to Adobe. Version 10a does NOT automatically update, but version 10b includes this fix. I currently had version 10a when I received this error, and began digging for a solution. Doing the update as described above fixed the problem, and updated it to version 10b.
The new flash version 10b has some new features, such as volume control, auto-updating, and several rendering options for those who may have a faster or slower computer/video card.
I found this works great for XP users but unsure of the Vista users. The process is the same for Vista and the update should still work the same, as long as you run it as Administrator, I assume. Please leave a reply to help Adobe and other users know if this fix worked for you or not. If not, please explain what you did, and the effects your seeing, including operating system, site of the flash file trying to view, browser type (ex. IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Opera, ect.), and I will try to help you as best I can.
(I would strongly recommend those not using IE8, or Firefox 3.5, get the updated versions)

I would recommend all users having problems try the above solution first.
I have posted this on a couple of websites, and so far it has fixed everyones problems.
Firefox 3.5 Beta 4 has Adobe Flash Player coding built into the browser so that it not only loads faster but works better.
You still need to have the Adobe ActiveX plug-in and Adobe Flash Player for both browsers.
I would also recommend you download Shockwave Player 11.
IE8 has tried this as well, but it still has a couple bugs in it.
If you have IE8 or FireFox 3.5 Beta 4, and you are still having problems, then I recommend that you go to www.windowsupdate.com and get all of the latest updates (including SP3), then try this fix again.
Your auto-updater built into windows (If you even have it on) doesn't always pull down every update available for your computer. It only pulls down the manditory ones.
Sometimes you HAVE to go to the website and manually get them yourself. I recommend when you go to the website, you click on custom install and pick every last one of them to install, which includes, hardware and software fixes for your computer.
What a lot of people don't know is that when you have installed and tried all of the recommended fixes that Adobe gives you, and it still doesn't work, is that you are having registry conflicts within your Operating System (OS ex. WinXP, Vista, Linux, ect.), and that it is not the Adobe software at all.
Those are usually repaired by making sure your computer stays up to date.
The fact is the computer world is changing so rapidly that everyone can't keep up. You have to check for updates weekly.
If you fall behind on those updates, then you start having problems with your computer and/or software.
One problem then can turn into many and people get frustrated when something all the sudden just quits working.
Take a day or two at least once a month, and make sure you update and maintain your computer.
This includes disk defragmenting, disk cleanup, and making sure you have all the lastest updates.
You can get to Disk Defrag, and Disk Cleanup by going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, then to System Tools.
I would do Disk Cleanup first, then Defrag.
I hope you take this advise into consideration, and that it is very helpful for you.

Flash Websites Won't Load On MacOSX 10.7

If I go to a flash website like hbo.com or native-instruments.com, the flash wheel just turns and turns but never loads. How do I fix this problem? I have 10,3,183, 7 installed.

If you go to Safari's Help menu, then choose Installed Plug-ins, do you see Shockwave Flash listed? Here's what mine looks like:
If not, please try the following:
1. Download the stand alone uninstaller
2. Close all your browser windows
3. Run the uninstaller
5. Restart your computer
6. Download and install Flash Player located here: Flash Player for Mac

Adding payPal shopping cart to a Flash website?

I'm a newbie, creating my first flash website and my first shopping cart, so be easy on me.
I've done a lot of research, however was unable to find any tutorials on how to set up a Paypal shopping cart or any other secured shopping cart in a website that was created in Flash professional CS5, actionscript 3.0. Paypal's tutorial is only for html (copy/paste the code in your html website and voila) but how to integrate shopping cart in Flash website? Any help would be appreciated.
This is my first time setting up a cart on a website. I have a "shop" button on my site (see picture below) that I would like linked to an external page preferably with my items that I would like to sale. Not sure if paypal's shopping cart can do what I want it to do. Once the user clicks on the "Shop" button, I'd like for my customer to be able to see a picture of the items I have for sale, price for each item, a box where the buyer can write quantity of item desired, add to cart button and then check out button. With paypal shopping cart, can I add pictures beside each item I am selling when entering the price on paypal's website or I have to add the pictures of the items I am selling directly in my shop section of my website and add a buy now button for each individual item and then copy/paste the email link provided by Paypal to each of my buy now buttons and add that code to my "Actions" layer within Flash? How would the script look like? And what if later on I want to add additional info to an item, change price or delete it completely...would I have to make the changes everytime within paypal only or I'd have to make the changes on both paypal and my flash file and upload new copy to server? I'd like for my cart to integrate with my site (keep the same look and feel, same layout/background color) preferably but what ever way is the easiest. Thanks for your help.

Any source that provides embed code to add to your webpage should work. So in other words if E-Junkie provides the HTML code that you simply embed in your own code it will work. If it requires a certain plugin be installed it may or may not.

Flash only supports a small amount of html in text areas. If what you re trying to include is within what it supports, then you assign the text to the textfield using the htmlText property of the TextField...

How do I create a hyperlink to a specific section of a flash website?

Ok, I have no experience coding in flash, I just want to
create links to specific parts of a flash website (website that
were created by other people, not that I am building). In other
words, I just want to create the hyperlink that will open a certain
section of the website - I'm not developing the site and I don't
want to create links inside the site. Is there any way to do this?

is the flash site I want to link to. Wherever I navigate in
the site, the address never changes in my browser. But I know it is
possible to get a URL to a specific flash page, because I have seen
some of the web admins post them.
For example:

which opens a very specific section of the site. So is there
anyway for me, an average computer user with no experience in flash
coding, to get a hyperlink to open a certain section of a flash
site, or at the least get my browser to display the specific URL
(that is, the "?section=2&sub=5" part of the address). I use
firefox, but am willing to try anything or any browser at this
point.

My Flash sites use a section and subSection structure, and
within the site I use the numbers to display specific areas. But
it's done internally. I have no code that looks at a query string
attached to the URL so supplying the numbers to my sites will have
no effect. The example you give clearly does read parameters passed
in a query string so if you know the correct numbers (and the param
names eg 'section') then you can do it.

Advice needed for beginner to Flash website building

I have zero knowledge about using Flash. I am being asked by my boss to build a flash web site for our music and video game stores. I built our old site in Dreamweaver.
Does anyone have advice on where i should start? A suggested book that will walk me through beginning to end. I've worked through a few tutiorials but I feel lost as far at the time line and actions.
Any expert advice is appreciated. I need to get started in the next month. I'd like to build it myself instead of outsourcing to someone else.

Needless to say the concept behind the tutorial was mind-opening, at least for me: I have a HTML/CSS background and I always used Flash almost only for banners, headers and simple animations.

How do I add tracking code to a Flash website?

Tracking software requires that you insert their code into the page you want to track (I'm using StatCounter). I installed a Flash website template and it just has one .html file where I can insert the code. That tracks visits to the first page with no problem but if a visitor clicks on different pages of the site, it doesn't get tracked. Does anyone know how and where to add code so that each page of the Flash site can be tracked?
Note, in my template a part of each page is found in different symbols. For example, the first column of every page is located in a symbol called PAGES1 and the second column of every page is located in a symbol called PAGES2, and the third column located in PAGES3. Different layers within each symbol correspond to the different pages. So I'm at a loss of how I could get this tracking code to be able to track each page visit, since each page shares a symbol with another page. Anyone know?

Advice on how to keep Flash website small & fast

Hi, I'm developing my first Flash website (I know, I know, there are plenty of reasons to use other development products, but for now it will be Flash), and I envision a site with several pages and needing to load some large graphics. I'm doing the main design work in Illustrator and importing it into Flash. I'm not too concerned with animation except perhaps moving some buttons around. My plan so far is to use a lot of UI loaders to keep the main .swf small and to really try to keep the coding pretty simple as I'm a newbie anyway. I'm looking for general advice on how to prevent the main site from loading quickly - for example, I don't have a good sense of the best format to use for graphics, or which makes the site slower: using several UI loaders or just keeping the content in the main site? Is a lot of code or large graphics more draining on the load time? Any thoughts on what you think I can do or not do to keep it lean would be super appreciated, or any other resources you might be able to point me to.

Nah... really really stupid questions only get asked in non-Flash forums. The size of the swf is not tied tot the size of the fla. The fla has alot more baggage that inflates its size greatly compared to the swf it creates. The swf will end up bearing the weight of whatever content you put in it.
If you want to see what's adding weight to your swf, go into your Flash Publish Settings and select the option to Generate Size Report. When you publish the file it will display a detailed report of each element and the weight it contributes to the swf.
As far as dynamically loading swf's, it is often a necessity, unless the swf is strictly an animation. If you import an swf into an fla file, all of the actionscript that might have been in it is stripped out.
Code will have negligible weight in a file. Images (large/heavy ones) can put lead shoes on a file, along with video and sound files.
