Welcome to Discussions, Stanley Chung
Sorry you are still having problems even after trying the good suggestions from Ralph and Boomer.
I did not see specifically from your posts that your iSight worked before upgrading to Snow Leopard, but I am inferring from your topic's title that it did. If your iMac came with Snow Leopard installed, please post and tell us whether you erased the disk and reinstalled all your iMac's software before you started using it. If you upgraded your iMac to Snow Leopard, consider the following.
(1) Until you get iSight working, do all your testing while no peripherals other than keyboard/mouse are attached to your iMac. To eliminate all possibility of any conflict external to your Mac, be sure you also disconnect any wireless devices (iPod, printer, etc) connected to your system.
(2) If you still have problems with all you have tried, it seems to me that you must have a software issue. You might try uninstalling Skype and VMWare and testing again to see if those installations are causing a conflict.
(3) Check the support sites for all of your third party software to be sure there are no known Snow Leopard issues and that you are using the latest compatible versions.
(4) If the problem still exists and you have not already tried this, reinstall Snow Leopard, repairing permissions immediately before and after the reinstall.
(5) If your problem remains and System Profiler still shows your inbuilt iSight as a USB device, I suggest you backup all important files, erase your disk, reinstall all Apple software, and test to see if iSight works properly. Once it does, you can install any necessary peripherals and third-party apps one-at-a-time, testing after each addition to see if one of them is causing problems.

Green light blinks continually...camera does not work in photo booth or face time.Any suggestions?

    Hi Rogerya,
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you may be experiencing issues with the built-in FaceTime camera (also known as iSight) on your MacBook Air. The following resource provides relevant troubleshooting information that you can try:
How to Troubleshoot iSight - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT2090
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
    1. See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
    2. See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
    3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    4. Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • My DVD player will not work. I am unable to install the snow leopard 10.6.3 because of it.

My DVD player will not work. I am unable to install the snow leopard 10.6.3 because of it.

Do you have a friend with an Intel Mac. If your MacBook and their Mac have firewire ports you can install by Target Disk Mode. You'll need a retail version of SL to do this with any Mac other than a MacBook.
Start up your friend's Mac with your install disk. After you get to the install screen on your friend's Mac connect your MacBook to your friend's Mac in "Target Mode"with a firewire cable http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Then open "Disk Utility" from the "Utilities Menu" on the Menu Bar from the install disk on your friend's Mac. You should see both your MacBook and your friend's Mac hard drives in there. Erase and partition your MacBook drive and then choose that drive when you go back to the install screen. Or install over your existing OS on your drive if you have applications you want to keep.
The only other way is to buy an external DVD drive on eBay. http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=firewire+external+dvd+drive&_sacat=0&LH_BIN=1&_ sop=15&_dmpt=Apple_Laptops&_odkw=usb+external+dvd+drive&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286. c0.m270.l1313 or at MacSales http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/
And of course be sure your Macbook meets the system requirements. To upgrade to Snow Leopard or install Snow Leopard for the first time, you must have a Mac with:
    An Intel processor.
An internal or external DVD drive, or DVD or CD Sharing.
At least 1 GB of RAM (additional RAM is recommended).
A built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer.
At least 5 GB of disk space available.

  • Imac not booting, Able to get to disk ulility with snow leopard disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to do anything.  Information list that smart is certified and partition map is us formatted.  How do I get mac to start up again?

Imac not starting up, keep getting white screen.  Using snow leopard.  Able to get to disk utilities with snow leopard installation disk.  Tap on had disk, not given choice to certified disk or anything else.  Information on disk states that smart status is certified.  Partition map I formatted.  Also tried to restore from back up, but get error:  not enough disk space.  Tried to erase disk, but unable.  What do I do next to get mac to start up?

Thank you. That's what I thought will need to happen.
One more question. I tried using the Apple install disk that came with the computer. It's an OS 10.5.6 disk. It does not see my 10.6.8 system internal hard drive to repair. All it see's is itself 10.5.6 disk. Do you think I can use a 10.8+ disk utillity since that is a higher system it will see the 10.6.8. Where the 10.5.6 does not?
I don't want to turn the computer off for fear I'll get the question mark again. P-Ram got me going last time but for how long I don't know?  It would be nice to be able to turn the computer off for the night and startup as usual to give it a rest and try to reset itself.
Thanks for your help, I know I will eventually need to re-install. But I am in the middle of a project with tight deadlines and all I can do right now is back-up. Trying to migrate to another computer temporarily to finish the job. That's a lot of extra work in the short time also.
Just trying to put a band-aid on it for another couple weeks.

  • Transfer photos from iphoto to Aperture with snow leopard, how?

    hi all
how can i transfer photos from iphoto (in power book G5) To Aperture ( in MacBook Pro 17" with snow leopard), with same albums arrangement???? thanks

    yi1gaka wrote:
1- the size of iphoto library is 6GB, but in aperture its 11GB, y?
I think it's because you have the original images plus copies with any adjustments you made in iPhoto. It could also have to do with Aperture generating Previews.
2- now to copy the another iphoto library from the second old machine, i will replace its library with the iphoto library of new machine then copy it in aperture library, and after that i can delete the iphoto library to save hard space. is that correct? thanks
Just make sure you keep the copies on the old machines until you've backed up your new Aperture Library and made sure that everything is there. IMPORTANT: make sure that you chose to copy the images into your Aperture Library instead of keeping them in their current location. If you left them in the iPhoto Library and you delete that library, you delete your images!

  • ISight not working in Photo Booth with NEW MacBook Air?

I purchased an 11" MacBook Air and received it on May 29, 2014.  When I got it, I had no problems with the webcam.  Now, whenever I open Photo Booth, it doesn't load.  All it shows is a white loading icon on a black screen.  My webcam works in FaceTime, Skype, etc., but not Photo Booth.  I've tried it in test user, I've tried SCM and PRAM reset, I've re-installed Mavericks, and I've installed the combo update, and nothing has worked.  What could be the problem, and how can I resolve it?

    Hi,
Do you mean these http://ismileys.free.fr/moreichateffects/ ?
They have not really worked in Snow Leopard and should be deleted

  • Isight not working in photo booth after Leopard install

After installing Leopard, isight doesn't work when opening photobooth. I get a grey screen and nothing more. The green light isn't illimuniated. When clicking on the "take a photo" button, the countdown occurs and photobooth goes through the photo taking motions, even making the noises, but nothing shows up and I am unable to click the "take a photo" button again with closing and reopening photobooth. When in imovie, isight works fine. isight also shows up in my system profiler. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Flash not working in photo booth.

The flash in photo booth on my iMac is not working.  When I take a pic, the screen flashes but the pic is still dark.  Was working fine yesterday.  I did install the latest osx today.  That's the only changes since then.

In case anyone is interested in your screen flash not working in the Yosemite or Maverick photo booth application, I finally called Apple today and he kept insisting it was working on his - I asked him to take a pic with the screen flash enabled and then disable it and he said it came out the same. And rationalized that it was because he was in a well lit room. I kept telling him in my old photo booth from system 10.6.8 that my face was lit up and my husband had reflections from his glasses so we went from him wanting me to reinstall my software (I refused since both computers were having the same problem - one using Yosemite and the other using Maverick)  to him finally going into HIS partitioned disk that has system 10.6.8 on it to discover that the flash there reflected off HIS glasses too. Bottom line is he admitted there has to be some flaw that prevented the photo booth flash from working for Maverick and Yosemite. Whew, finally validation!

  • Bootcamp? Parallels? Nothing works as it should ... iMac with Snow Leopard

I'm not sure if it's me ... or if perhaps I've got conflicting stuff on my iMac, which is running OSX (10.7x).  It also has Boot Camp, and Parallels. I'm wondering if Boot Camp and Parallels aren't supposed to be running on the same system ... and I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate. Then there's terms like "Cohesion" which appear ... Problems:
    1) Printers and scanners consistently fail to simply power up and fly when I want them to, regardless of what app I'm using from within either Parallels (e.g. Office 2010) or Mac (e.g. Office 2011). I'm constantly having to unplug the device, re-set it in Mac preferences and Windows Network Sharing // Printers and Devices. Not the same problem every time; I just hit it with everything I can til "something" seems to work. It nearly always involves pulling the device out of the machine, complete reboot of both Mac or Parallels and the device, then responding to the pop up "New Device Found - do you wish to use it on the Mac or Parallels".  AAAAARGGGHHH.  I just want it to be immediately responsive from WHEREVER I have invoked it, I do not want to have to go through twenty questions every damned time I want to print something, it should NOT be this hard!
    2) Printers consistently "Offline" - but the device is ON, has paper, full cartridges, all cables in and okay, listed in the Mac Printer preferences - perhaps as the Default, yup, same for Windows via Parallels ... but stubbornly refusing to get up and do the job. Solution seems to be - refer to (1) above. So tiresome.
    3) Very inconsistent about being able to see plug-in storage devices e.g. sometimes when I put the camera SD card in, it'll pop up on the Mac Desktop, others it won't. Then I have to try every sneaky in the book to try and find somewhere the damned thing is actually visible and accessible. Sometimes it's a complete re-boot ... so there's no consistency I can pick up on to figure out where it's falling apart on me.
    4) Never been able to use the DVD to burn data - despite all the visible preferences saying DVD is accessible to both Mac and Windows, I get error messages. Now this one I think I can suggest a culprit; Symantec (Norton) 360 - despite my telling it to mind its own business, there's a setting there that says Norton is controlling the firewall / access to the DVD drive.
    5) Last question - why is it I get told to get lost I have to be an Administrator to do certain things. It's MY machine, the only USER set up on it - both Mac and Windows refuse to allow me to make changes or even do things like move a document folder from one drive to another unless I'm the Administrator - I AM THE ADMINISTRATOR!!!
Any help would be much appreciated ...

Make sure it is and using dual mode (VM and native) is more trouble but more convenient.
I never liked how Fusion integrated and handled Windows so when I r4un Windows, it is just Windows, natively, and all updates and patches are done inside Windows.
This is probably best handled and adddressed, and a Parallels 7 issue, not Boot Camp.

  • Not impressed with Snow Leopard

i upgraded to Snow Leopard, thinking it would make my computer run more efficiently, and expecting some of the problems with programs that were present in Leopard to be resolved (this was promised in the description of the upgrade on the apple website). Unfortunately, I almost want to revert back to Leopard, as Snow Leopard appears to have done more harm than good for my system.
The computer actually seems to be running more slowly, and programs take up more power than before, so the battery dies faster and takes longer to charge fully. Also, before Snow Leopard, iChat had been crashing occasionally when video chatting in full screen mode, but now it barely works at all! I have to try several times to start a video conference, and even then it crashes more often than it ever did before.
My browser runs less efficiently as well, and Safari frequently quits altogether, which is very frustrating. I am not sure what was improved in this upgrade, but I think there might still be a great deal of work to be done here, and that perhaps Snow Leopard was released too soon.
I have one of the newer models of Macbook; I bought it last December, so it is not even a year old. This shouldn't have anything to do with the issues I am having with Snow Leopard.
Is anybody else having these problems, or does anybody know if there is anything I can do? Is there a way to go back to Leopard??
    Thanks!

The update is only good for Mac's listed in this About the Performance update.

  • Isight is not working on ichat and skype, however will work on photo booth and imovie.

My isight will not work on ichat or skype, saying that there is no camera connected. isight will work in photo booth and imovie. It shows up in the system profiler. Have tried resetting SMC. Help?

    (1) Here is how I would proceed to isolate the underlying problem that requires corrective action.
    • Shut down everything.
    • Then restart modem and allow its self-test to complete.
    • Then restart router or wireless access point (if you have them) and allow self-test to complete.
    • Then restart Mac.
    • Use  > Software Update... (Update your Apple software if not current.)
    • Then test Photo Booth or iMovie with no other apps else running to ensure they still work.
    • Then quit your test app and try iChat with no other apps else running.
    • If iChat works, quit iChat and try Skype with no other apps else running.
    (2) If iChat works but Skype does not,
    • Verify that you are using the latest version of Skype that is compatible with your OS X (10.5.8) Mac.
    • Update if necessary.
    • Then test Skype again with no other apps else running.
    • If Skype problems remain but your camera works with everything else, Skype's comprehensive support system should best be able to help you use their product with your system.
    Start here:  https://support.skype.com/
Or, click this link for help specifically related to Mac video calls.
You can also search or post for help with your problem in Skype's dedicated Skype Discussions for Mac.  The Skype users who post there may have already solved the same problem.
If nothing else works, you can even sign in and ask for email help directly from Skype's Technical Support people.
    (3) If you still have trouble with more than one app, you may need to use Disk Utility to:
    • repair permissions,
    • repair your disk,
    • or even reinstall Mac OS.
If you reinstall OS X 10.5, use the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to return to the latest version in one update step.
