ISight indicator light NOT on?!

Hi People,
Have had a MacBook Pro 13" for a month or so and only just noticed the lack of the iSight indicator light. Occasionally when going to Photo Booth it will come on, but dimly so, then flicker and fade away. Has anyone had this before and if so, have you fixed it, short of taking it to Apple under warranty.
Have reset smc and pram stuff to no success, also the camera itself has always worked.

Welcome to Apple Discussions
Mine has always shone when the iSight is in use, it sounds like a dodgy LED so best get it back to Apple right away so they can fix it.

  • ISight Indicator Light Randomly Turning On

I have noticed that my green iSight indicator light turns on for about a second and then turns back off. I don't have any programs using iSight running when this happens. I'm not sure what is happening, but does anyone have any ideas as to why this would be? This is a built-in iSight camera on a Macbook Pro running 10.5.5.

Then take it back to the repair shop before the 90 day repair warranty is up. Advise them the repairs were not done properly. Your iSight cam is "broke."

  • Internal isight audio indicator light not functioning

    Hey,
The isight on my macbook seems to be functioning fine. However, the left indicator light (mic) does not light up when I use my mic, whereas before, it did. The right light works fine when I am taking a picture or am on iChat. But even when I record with GarageBand, the mic light does not turn on. Any idea how to fix this? Does this mean that a big problem is soon to follow? I don't think the light's burnt out; the macbook is less than 6 months old.
    Thanks.

    Hello raspu3000
Take another look at your MacBook's User Guide (manual). It makes no mention of a mic indicator light. The User Guide identifies the little hole left of the iSight only as your microphone.
Perhaps you previously noticed light leaking across from the iSight indicator side rather than a true microphone indicator light, or do you mean some indicator in an application window?

  • Status Indicator Light not working

I've been having a recurring issue with the status indicator light on my 15.4-inch MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz (Mid-2009). I learned recently that it's normal for the status indicator light to be on when the computer starts up, shuts down and goes to sleep. Lately, the status indicator light has not appeared at all when the computer starts up, goes to sleep, and shuts down. I've tried almost everything and still nothing has worked
1.) Checked to see if any of the ports are working: FireWire, Ethernet, MagSafe, SD card, USB, Mini-DisplayPort. These ports are behaving as normal, working fine.
2.) Checked and successfully paired a seven button Apple Remote to test the IR receiver.
3.) Ran an Apple Hardware Test, found nothing wrong, passed the test.
4.) Reinstalled and erased my hard drive, still having issues.
5.) Bluetooth, AirPort Extreme, microphone, audio ports, speakers, and iSight are working.
6.) Battery works and the charger is working.
7.) Backlighting for display and keyboard work.
The computer is only 1 year and 4 months old. The issue began occurring two months ago. Now the computer does sleep, but if the fans are going, it takes a bit longer for the computer to go to sleep when I close the lid.
I haven't replaced the hard drive or installed any new hardware.

My computer's warranty with Apple, including tech support, service, and repair, has expired. However, I do have a remaining two year warranty with Best Buy Geek Squad.
I'm wondering how much would it cost out of pocket to take this computer to an Apple Store for service and repair with a Mac Genius?
So is there anything that could be wrong with this computer and if so, please help!

If you used "Secure erase", you can be certain that there is nothing left on the disk that is causing your problem.
Because you have a long wait for access to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, if you merely clicked "erase" (the one that does not take more than an hour), you could try Secure Erase now if you want to try the final possible fix you can do on your own.
... and installed the combo update recently, the size for that update was over 1GB.
    That is the right one.
I have been regularly doing those permissions. Thanks for the suggestions.
    You're welcome.
I'm taking my Mac to Geek Squad and Mac Genius next month when I visit my dad in Georgia, there's an Apple Store about 45 minutes away from his house and a Best Buy that sells Macs, cause it turns out Geek Squad's coverage for Apple/Mac is only in places where they sell Macs. I used my zip code and turned up 0 results but I typed the zip code for where my dad lives in North Georgia, and a Best Buy in Atlanta is available. So I will definitely go there and visit the Apple Store to at least see what my options are.
If you need help from Apple before you can go to a physical location next month, other Apple Technical Support service option contacts are available here:

Best Buy by far has the best warranty for computers from what the sales associate was telling me. Apparently, Best Buy warranty covers spills, drops & breaks, and overall maintenance issues. In fact, they told me if the computer can't be fixed, they'll replace it with a new one.
It should surprise nobody when salesmen tell customers that their own warranty product is best. Because you have apparently already paid for the Best Buy warranty, you can take advantage of their warranty and enjoy the "best" results if you can find a location that honors it.
Thanks for advice and if there's anything else you can think of, let me know.
You're welcome. You have all my suggestions. However, if I think of anything else, I will post back here.
We will watch for your status update. Please let us know what fix works for you.

  • ISight indicator light on even when no programs are running.

The green indicator light next to the built-in iSight camera is on, even though the only program currently running is Safari. Furthermore this seems to be causing the camera to show nothing but that same shade of green when I open Photobooth. The color settings are set for millions, so I know that's not the problem. Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Hi. First, I suggest you install the most updated software from Apple. Try resetting the SMC as well. Here's the steps:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
If none of this works, it is possible that you have a hardware issue. Try going to an Apple Store.

  • Sleep indicator light not working

This isn't really that huge of an issue, but I've noticed that the sleep indicator light on my 366MHz Firewire iBook, which I recently bought on eBay and installed a few upgrades in, seems to not be flashing when the computer is asleep. At first I suspected a bad LED, so I swapped it out with a known-good indicator light from my previous 300MHz iBook. That hasn't seemed to work, and both display cables going into the motherboard appear to be securely attached. Oddly enough, I do recall one time when I put the computer to sleep and the indicator light worked (this was somewhere in the middle of my trying to get it to work), but I haven't been able to replicate it.

Have you tried to reset the Power Management Unit (PMU)?

  • ACD sleep indicator light not pulsing

I installed Windows Vista Home Basic on my Mac Pro yesterday. My display is a 20" ACD (aluminium).
Since this Vista installation, the indicator light on the ACD does not pulse during sleep, but remains on steadily. The front indicator light on the Mac does pulse as normal during sleep.
In both instances, this indicator light is off as normal on both the Mac and the ACD while the Mac is being used.
Is this an issue others have seen, and does it have any negative indications?

In Displays/Option, the Display Power Button preference had been set to 'Turns the display on and off' and this had caused the problem I described earlier. I am not sure why this option had been selected after the installation of Vista yesterday, because I didn't open Preferences during or after this installation.
I have now changed the option to 'Puts the system to sleep or wakes it'. This is the option I normally use and I was not actually aware it caused the display sleep light to pulse.
The display has now returned to the more usual state (for me) of gently pulsing.
Thank you, Malcolm, you have been very helpful.

  • Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033 Indicator Lights Not Working

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6033 that all of a sudden does not have its ac power and batter power indicator lights working.  The power and hard drive activity lights do however work.  The laptop works fine on both AC and battery power as well as the battery recharges no problem.  I tried the cord and pack from my other Toshiba laptop and still no lights.  I also changed out the charge cable with a new one after this assuming a short in the cable.  Still no lights, however everything works.  Please help as I am at a loss why only these 2 indicator lights out of the whole strip do not illuminate as well as the laptop still works fine.  Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

leds burn out too.  you could replace or just use as-is.  they really aren't necessary anyway.

  • Mute indicator light not switching off

    Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion 15-e078ea Notebook PC and I'm running Windows 8.1.
For the last couple of days my mute indicator light has been on constantly whether the function is on or not. What can I do? I have no idea where to start!

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://h30642.www3.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63001-63500/sp63346.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek HD Audio device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and start the notebook.
Let Windows fully load, then open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again.

  • Blue indicator lights not working properly

    Hi
I've just doen the SMC updated to enable Power Nap on my 13" Macbook Air running ML. It seemed to work OK except that the blue indicator lights in the dock aren't working properly. Instead of showing blue lights it now shows little white rectangles. Seems to function the same, it's more of a graphical glitch it seems - but an annoying one. Any ideas please? I am a complete Mac noob I'm afraid.. first ever Mac...
    Thanks.

Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:
    killall Dock
Log out/in and test. If that doesn't work.
You need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/ Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
    Then try a dock reset.
    Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command
    killall Dock
Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.
If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.

  • Battery indicator lights not lit on side

is there a preference to show the lights on the side for the battery indicator?

If you follow the tiny pin holes of the indicator lights from the front towards the back of the machine, there is a circular indentation the size of 3/16 of an inch less than a quarter inch next to the last pin hole. Push that tiny circle in and the LED will light up for 3 seconds.
I assume all 13-inch aluminum MacBooks have the same design. You may want to inspect yours closely under some bright lights.

  • Sleep indicator light not working after upgrading to Snow Leopard

Hello all, I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard on my mid-2007 Macbook Pro (Macbook Pro 3,1, 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM) and after the upgrade the sleep light no longer comes on when I shut the lid or when the display is powered off.
Not a huge deal, but might be an issue if I can't remember if I shut the computer down or put it to sleep last—I did not do a clean install, but would anyone happen to know something I could try before resorting to that?
Thanks, your help is much appreciated!

Have you tried Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)?
