ISight no more working !

I used iChat AV 3.1.4 (v432) and AIM 4.7 for video chat many times until last Satuday. On Sunday, when I opened iChat, oh surprise, the camera near my photo was gone and replaced by a telephone sign. What happened ?
When I look at iChat preferences I can read that "no camera is attached to this computer" (it may not be the exact terms in English, because I use iChat in French).
I have two Firewire ports. Using either port does not make any difference. The green light in my iSight turns on for 2 or 3 seconds and gets off.
I must say that on saturday night, I used iPhoto in a Slide show and at the end, my Mac has frozen and I had to restart it.
1- Is the restart may have change some parameters so the camera is not working anymore ?
2- Is the camera in problem ? When I ask in "About Mac" informations about Firewire, I read "Bus Firewire: until 400Mb/s". There is no information about my camera ?
3- I readt different information in the forum and in the Apple support, but I found no response to my exact situation. Is anyone having any suggestion ?
Thanks for help

Thanks Ralph for your help, but my iSight is still not functional.
When I go to the menu « About Mac » and choose « More information » about Firewire, I read « Bus Firewire : ». There’s nothing after ; usually it was written « Bus Firewire : until 400Mb/s ». Is Firewire in problem ?
Here are some other questions to help you, and for me, to understand :
- when iSight is connected to a Firewire port and we ask information about this port, in « About Mac », is the information supposed to be « this port is used by a camera or any device », like we see in iChat preferences ?
- my iSight was perfectly functional until last weekend when my computer has frozen when I was using iPhoto.
o 1- does iPhoto uses QuickTime ?
o 2- is it possible that this crash has damaged the camera or the Firewire port ?
o 3- is it possible that the crash has changed the settings of QuickTime or anything else meaning problems for Video-chat ?
o 4- When I go to the iChat Preferences, I read that « There is no camera attached to this computer » even if the green light on my iSight is always on. Does that mean that the camera is connected but not functional ?
o 5- When you suggest to other users to set quicktime streaming settings to 1.5Mbps, what does that mean. On my french version of Quicktime, in the quicktime streaming settings (Diffusion en continu), the speed is on « Automatic » (I have a choice of « Cable 1 Mbps » and the « Instant reading » is between « immediately and short delay ». I'm using Internet by cable high speed. Does these settings have to be changed ?
I’m using french software (Quebec, Canada), so it may happen that the terms I use are not exactly what you have on your software. I did not find any discussion forum in French in the Apple site for iChat. Am I wrong ?
Thanks again
Marcel

  • ISight & Remote not working...

    Dear Mac Support Forum,
This is my first post here at the forums although I’ve been browsing them for some time now.
I hit the trifecta of problems so I wasn’t sure where exactly to do this post. Hope you can help.
    Latest Updates:
    iTunes 7.5
    Quick Time 7.3.1
    MAC OS X 10.4.11 Update
    Issues:
    1. I-pod touch is not showing up in iTunes.
    2. I-sight is not working (Photo Booth once selected shows the following message “the camera is in use by another application”). No other applications are running.
    3. Remote can not open or run Front Row.
    • NOTE: all stopped working at the same time after my latest software update so I believe they are related in someway. No 3rd party apps were installed in the mean time.
    Tried & unsuccessful solutions:
    1. Fully charged the i-pod.
    2. Deleted & reinstalled latest version of iTunes.
    3. Disconnected & reconnected the i-pod several times using different USB ports to the machine.
    4. Restarted the i-pod several times.
    5. Restarted the MacBook several times.
    6. Reinstalled (Apple Mobile Device Service).
    7. Restarted the MacBook in safe mode.
    8. Attempted to pair the remote with the MacBook by holding down the Menu and Next/FFWD button.
    9. I reset the System Management Controller (SMC) several times.
    10. Under System Preference > Security > “Disable remote control infrared receiver" option is unchecked.
    11. Deleted & reinstalled the latest version of Quick Time.
    12. Tried using the remote with another MacBook & it worked fine.
    13. Went to System Preference > Account > Login Item, and uncheck all the applications.
    NOTE:
    1. Although once connected to another PC the i-pod is immediately recognized by i-tunes.
    2. I-pod only charges once connected to the MacBook.
    3. The i-pod, IR receiver & i-sight all appear under the USB section of the System Profiler.
    4. Front Row can still be run using the keyboard short cuts.
Can you please come up with any suggestion other then the ones tried above to solve these issues.
    Thanks for your support.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, hishamonline
Very well done Topic! Thanks for such a good and thorough description.
You have landed in iSight discussions, and I see that you have tried many of the things that users can do to correct iSight problems. It can be very difficult to try to troubleshoot multiple devices simultaneously, so I will first give you my suggestions for your iSight issue. It is possible that something you try for iSight will fix one of your other problems even if it does not fix iSight. To keep the process as simple as possible, whether a given suggestion fixes iSight, one of your other problems, or noting at all, I suggest you continue to concentrate iSight until we get that resolved. Then we will move on to any other remaining issues.
I see that you have done a lot of updating, installing, and uninstalling. You do not say how you accomplished those actions. If you repaired permissions before and after any install, update, or uninstall that require you to input your Administrator Password, and if you used an Apple uninstaller or followed Apple's directions for how to uninstall, the updates/installs/uninstalls should not have caused any problems. If you merely dragged application folders to the trash, you most likely did not uninstall properly. Don't worry about that now, but, for your future consideration, it is generally a bad idea to move, modify, rename, or delete any item outside your User > Documents folder unless you are an experienced OS X user.
Now, onward to get iSight working. If you have not done so since your last software install or update, your first step should be to quit all running applications and then repair permissions. Then try Photo Booth again to see if your iSight works with it now.
If repairing permissions does not help, your next step should be to disconnect everything from your MacBook, restart, and troubleshoot iSight using all suggestions relevant to your system from How to Troubleshoot iSight to determine whether your iSight needs professional service. If, after using the suggestions there, you can make iSight work with any application in any user account you try, you know that your iSight works. Your problem is in some other part of your system.
If your iSight does not work right after trying everything above, post back and tell us:
    (1) which, if any, applications work with your iSight
    (2) which apps you tried that do not work with your iSight
    (3) if EVERY problem is EXACTLY the same in EVERY user account your tried
    (4) whether your iPod touch, Photo Booth, and Remote ever worked correctly
    (5) if they did, what changed immediately before each problem began, and
    (6) if all three problems began at the same time.
We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your response.

  • ISight suddenly stopped working

My iSight suddenly stopped working in the middle of a Skype connection. It had been working correctly: my contact heard me and saw my image. Then, the sound suddenly was lost, and after that the image. The green light on the iSight went off. If I plug the firewire cable into another port, the light comes on for a few seconds, then goes off. The iSight is identified in About This Mac. I took the iSight to the local Genius Bar, and it worked perfectly on 2 other Mac's. I was advised to re-install the OS with archive, but isn't there anything more simple?

    Hello George,
... isn't there anything more simple?
Here are some things you can try.
    (1) If you used your own iSight's cable when you tested your iSight at the Genius Bar, you know neither the cable nor your iSight is the problem.
You can test your iSight with other applications to determine whether you have problems with more than one. Also, consider the link there to Apple's "iSight: How to Troubleshoot" suggestions.
    (2) If your only problem is with Skype, consider reinstalling Skype or check out Skype's great Help section. Skype even hosts its own discussion forums dedicated to Skype specific issues.
    (3) If your iSight has problems with more than one application, consider whether your Mac OS X Maintenance is up to date. Maintenance is the first thing I check when I begin to experience minor problems or system slowdown.
    (4) If your problem persists although your OS X Maintenance is current, download and apply this Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update (PPC). Finish with another Permissions Repair and check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
The Combo Updater will be much simpler than an A&I reinstall.

  • Isight is not working on ichat and skype, however will work on photo booth and imovie.

My isight will not work on ichat or skype, saying that there is no camera connected. isight will work in photo booth and imovie. It shows up in the system profiler. Have tried resetting SMC. Help?

    (1) Here is how I would proceed to isolate the underlying problem that requires corrective action.
    • Shut down everything.
    • Then restart modem and allow its self-test to complete.
    • Then restart router or wireless access point (if you have them) and allow self-test to complete.
    • Then restart Mac.
    • Use  > Software Update... (Update your Apple software if not current.)
    • Then test Photo Booth or iMovie with no other apps else running to ensure they still work.
    • Then quit your test app and try iChat with no other apps else running.
    • If iChat works, quit iChat and try Skype with no other apps else running.
    (2) If iChat works but Skype does not,
    • Verify that you are using the latest version of Skype that is compatible with your OS X (10.5.8) Mac.
    • Update if necessary.
    • Then test Skype again with no other apps else running.
    • If Skype problems remain but your camera works with everything else, Skype's comprehensive support system should best be able to help you use their product with your system.
    Start here:  https://support.skype.com/
Or, click this link for help specifically related to Mac video calls.
You can also search or post for help with your problem in Skype's dedicated Skype Discussions for Mac.  The Skype users who post there may have already solved the same problem.
If nothing else works, you can even sign in and ask for email help directly from Skype's Technical Support people.
    (3) If you still have trouble with more than one app, you may need to use Disk Utility to:
    • repair permissions,
    • repair your disk,
    • or even reinstall Mac OS.
If you reinstall OS X 10.5, use the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to return to the latest version in one update step.

  • HT2090 External iSight camera quit working after upgrade.

My external iSight camera quite working after OS upgrade. It appears the Firewire port is dead. Camera doesn't turn on, no green light. The camera is not recognized by any software.

Restart your Mac and troubleshoot using http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 suggestions.
Be sure to test more than one Apple app in more than one user account.  Do NOT use the "Guest" account for this test.  If you do not have more than one user account for the testing, create a new one now.  (A "Standard" account is all you need for testing.)
If your trouble persists, when you post back here tell us:
       (1) what version of OS X you use.
(You can find this with your Mac's  > About This Mac menu command.)
       (2) Whether the "upgrade" you mean was an OS X upgrade, an iOS upgrade, or both,
       (3) whether your external iSight works with Apple apps like Photo Booth, iMovie, etc.
If not, confirm that the symptoms are EXACTLY the same in every user account.
We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details you provide in your response.

  • ISight doesn't work anymore

    Hello guys,
my internal iSight stopped working some days ago It worked well for more than 1 year (I did lots of video chats with Skype and iChat and took even more snapshots with PhotoBooth) but now it suddenly stopped. I have no idea what the reason could be, the notebook just lay on the table as it did for weeks, it didn't fall down or anything like that.
The whole system doesn't detect the camera anymore, the system profiler says under "Hardware->USB" that there is a "Vendor-Specific" thing instead of the camera. Even under Windows XP via Bootcamp the iSight doesn't work anymore, though I used it without problems some weeks ago.
I've already had the very same problem on 16th august this year. That time I could fix it just by resetting the PRAM and VRAM, but this time this doesn't work. I also wondered whether a Firmware-Reset might solve the problem, but as I've installed the MacBook Firmware-Update 1.1 I can't use the Firmware Restoration CD (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303469: "Note: This CD cannot be used to return an Intel-based Macintosh computer's firmware to a previous version if a successful update has already been performed.").
I really hope you can help me and that it's not a hardware-defect, because my guaranty has expired some weeks ago.
    Thanks, Woelfle

Ok, it actually seems to be an hardware-defect Well, at least an insulate contact. I've pressed the area around the iSight camera and the MacBook-display softly and now the camera works again as if there haven't been any problems. This explains why it worked again after the first time the defect occurred…
So what would you say? Let it as it is? Don't change anything? Or opening the bezel around the display to check the contacts (how difficult is this for a layman?)? Or going to the next apple store and let them check the contacts (remember: I don't have guaranty anymore)?

  • My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

    Hello Douglas,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the built-in iSight camera on your MacBook Pro.  I recommend the following steps for this issue:
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
You can find the full article here:

  • Built in iSight no longer works in 10.4.10

After I installed the 10.4.10 update and rebooted my iSight no longer works. If I open Photo Booth to test it out it starts out normal then very quickly starts to fade down to complete black, yet still remains on as indicated by the green light.
Taking pictures just results in a black square. I tried removing the Photo Booth prefs but that did nothing. Reinstalling the 10.4.10 combo update also did nothing.
    Any ideas?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Chadsere
Because you made your post "in response to" me, I will respond, although, from your wording, you may have intended your post for the original poster.
adam1185's question has been marked "Answered", which indicates that he does not expect further input. Therefore, you may not see a response from him. However, I agree with your interpretation that "it just magically started working again" for him.
By whatever method, you will want to get your problems resolved while you still have warranty coverage for your MacBook.
Notwithstanding what is reported, unless something changes, computers will not heal themselves. Because Mac OS X performs certain checks on your hard drive files at every startup, my guess is that most successes credited to "magic" are likely due to restarts. However, any fix that gets things working for you is a good fix.
If you have not already done so, apply the 10.4.10 Combo Updater using the method described above. That often helps correct iSight problems.
If your problem persists, unless your problem is exactly the same as adam1185's, I suggest you start a new topic with as much detail as possible about your system and problem. Your issues deserve the individual attention that they will get in threads of your own.
    Cheers,
    Jim

  • Bluetooth no more working with latest OVI suite

Since I install latest OVI suite it seems my bluetooth stop working correctly and I cannot sync.
however the radio seels OK, since I can pair.
I've tried to unpai, repair, to clean.
sometimes it works but afer the first disconnection, it no more works.
my PC is XP family with Bluesoleil 2 (and CSR chip)
I could not test on my work PC with widdcomm since OVI crash at startup.
should I step back to PC suite, until OVI works, or will it be worse?
    Alain

I have also tested with an airoblue bluetooth key (kensington driver) that use
    WIDDCOMM drivers.
it was not working well with 4.x version of WIDDCOMM, unable to synchronize with OVI(however could backup!)
I have installed the latest 5.x WIDDCOMM of kensington and is does not work either, with the same symptoms as Bluesoleil 2.x, and WIDDCOMM4.x : it seems to work but synchronize is slow and break in the middle.
works well with microsoft generic driver and my cambridge silicon radio key.
note that is was working well with the 2 keys, and their Bluesolei and widdcomm drivers since years.

    Welcome to Discussions, Stanley Chung
Sorry you are still having problems even after trying the good suggestions from Ralph and Boomer.
I did not see specifically from your posts that your iSight worked before upgrading to Snow Leopard, but I am inferring from your topic's title that it did. If your iMac came with Snow Leopard installed, please post and tell us whether you erased the disk and reinstalled all your iMac's software before you started using it. If you upgraded your iMac to Snow Leopard, consider the following.
    (1) Until you get iSight working, do all your testing while no peripherals other than keyboard/mouse are attached to your iMac. To eliminate all possibility of any conflict external to your Mac, be sure you also disconnect any wireless devices (iPod, printer, etc) connected to your system.
    (2) If you still have problems with all you have tried, it seems to me that you must have a software issue. You might try uninstalling Skype and VMWare and testing again to see if those installations are causing a conflict.
    (3) Check the support sites for all of your third party software to be sure there are no known Snow Leopard issues and that you are using the latest compatible versions.
    (4) If the problem still exists and you have not already tried this, reinstall Snow Leopard, repairing permissions immediately before and after the reinstall.
    (5) If your problem remains and System Profiler still shows your inbuilt iSight as a USB device, I suggest you backup all important files, erase your disk, reinstall all Apple software, and test to see if iSight works properly. Once it does, you can install any necessary peripherals and third-party apps one-at-a-time, testing after each addition to see if one of them is causing problems.

  • ISight is not working with boot camp

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro and very satisfied with it. Formerly I worked with Windows XP, so I decided to buy a Macbook and use boot camp. Everything was fine. In my enthusiasm I bought the LED cinema display. Very good display but the iSight camera is not reliable working with boot camp. There is no driver available. Sometimes the camera is recognized as video device but mostly not. When the camera is not recognized then there is a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. I don't know what to do. Is anybody working with boot camp and the iSight build in the LED cinema display? And what driver do you use? Hopefully I get some help here. Everything is working convenient except this issue.
    Thank you, Frank

Sorry, I think I mixed some things. I tried several contellations to find out what is going wrong. The iSight is woking with my MacBook (and boot camp). But it is not working with other Laptops or PCs (all with Windows XP). It is working really rarely but not reliable and not replicatable. In all cases I tried only the USB connector from the LED cinema display. Audio, micro and hub is always working without problems. The iSight driver delivered with the Macbook is not working (only with the Macbook itself). If I had known this before I think I would buy the display although. The display is great. But it is a pity that the iSight is not working when you do not use Apple hardware. May be I will buy the Mac Pro in one or two years when I need a new PC. Perhaps someone can answer if Windows XP is working without problems on a Mac Pro? And is the iSight build in the LED cinema display working (Mac Pro and boot camp)?

  • ISight suddenly not working in iChat

    Hi,
My iSight has always worked and i've never had a problem until just now. I just got off a Skype video call with a friend on a PC. my iChat was running and now I realize that it only has the 'phone' icon next to my picture. I checked the preferences and it says:
'There is no camera attached to this computer'
I went on several posts but couldn't find the exact problem.
i checked the system profiler and the in the USB Device Tree my iSight appears.
I then checked in the Console and I got this message:
1/14/11 12:36:19 PM iChat[2617] No iChat delegate set for vccLocalVideoError
I have of course tried restarting iChat. I also deleted com.apple.iChat.playlist and re-signed in to no avail.
Kind of out of ideas now.
    Thanks for your help.

I think that your external iSight problem is different from the inbuilt iSight problem
    posted by the OP.
However, if you still believe that your problem is EXACTLY the same as Niklass posts, follow the suggestions Ralph offers to solve that one.
    Otherwise,
    (1) follow the suggestions here to determine if your external iSight has failed:

    (2) If you cannot get your external iSight working with those suggestions, and if you do not have access to a local Apple Service Technician who can repair it, other repair options are shown here:
