ISight not connecting cam to cam...

Eversince the big updates around the end of September I cannot cam to cam in my favorite chat rooms on some "private" websites. There was no problem on either Mac before those updates. All other tasks for the iSight work fine, but now I cannot enjoy what I had before these updates.
Anyone have any thoughts on this...
Thanx

Also-
Besides that "Big Updates"...were there amy other changes in your setup?
New router, Airport, ISP change...did you check Mac's firewall settings?
You say: "on either Mac..." -- you mean you have two macs and this (whatever cam-to-cam is) stopped working on both?
Is this a built-in iSight cam?
Chat rooms...you mean iChat AV? Or is this something different?
Have you tried the forums specific for iSight/iChat for anyone who might be experienceing your same problem?

  • Isight not connected/ chronic

My son's macbook's built in isight camera just stopped working, and we don't know why this started. The message is that it is not connected, or that it is in use by another application (which it isn't). I have searched on these forums and have found many users having the same problem. The most common solution posted on these forumsseems to be to power the computer off, disconnect battery and ac power, hold power button for 10 seconds, reinstall battery and ac power cord, and power up again.
The good news: This worked! The Isight internal camera functioned, and he wqas able to Ichat with me.
The bad news: The above solution needs to be done EVERY TIME he turns his computer off. When he starts up, every day the isight camera displays the above problem, and the above solution is needed to correct. Every day.
Has abyone else found this to be the case? How can we fix this so he doesn't have to jump through sixteen hoops and look through a kaleidescope every time he wans to ichat or photobooth?

I have reset the pram, updated the software, etc. To repeat these items brought the camera back. Thanks for your responses gents. However the problem was that this needed to be done every time the computer was turned off and restarted.
I think I have found the problem, and the fix, although I am not smart enough to explain why! We noticed that a little icon appeared on our dock, and disappeared immediately, upon every startup. This icon was a some type of "daemon" that was associated with the HP printer/scanner my son hooked up to his mac right before all of these problems started! I searched these forums for that application, and noticed that other people had similar problems with the HP scanner driver somehow occupying a port that I now believe to be somehow associated somehow to the camera. We uninstalled all the hp software, and his camera works fine every start up!
I think part of the camera troubleshooting should include question on whether new software was installed to the macbook, specifically HP software!
    THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS.

  • Built-In iSight not connected

On iMovie, Photobooth and iChat my in-built iSight seems to not be connected.
I have tried resetting the PRAM and had no luck.
The green light is not on and I cannot locate it on the system profiler.
*What has happened to my camera?!*

    Welcome to Discussions, TK-60
If you are still having problems after trying Baby Boomer's good suggestion, try restarting the Mac. If the problems persist, try all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested there often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if your built-in iSight still does not work after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, and if iSight does not show as a USB hardware device in your Mac's System Profiler utility, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • ISight not connecting properly

Hi, my isight doesn't seem to be working when I try to connect with another person. I can see a video preview but then when I try to iChat with someone it says I failed to respond to the connection. The green light only comes on during the video preview or when I try to iChat but otherwise it is off, and the camera icon next to my name on iChat used to have three cameras and now it only has one. I have a Powerbook G4. Please, what should I do?
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah:
To connect to other persons using iChat, you need to open up the proper ports in your router (if you have one)
    This may help: http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html#_modemroutersettings
As far as your stacked icons, try logging off iChat and logging back in, that sometimes will correct the issue, otherwise if you don't leave your mac on 24/7, you may need to do some housekeeping.
This may help for housekeeping (it doesn't hurt anything): http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607640&#607640

  • Built in isight 'not connected' or 'being used by other app'

i just bought a macbook pro (os x 10.4.5; 1.83 ghz; upgraded to 1gig ram) yesterday, and when i attempted to open Photobooth to take a pic with the built in isight camera, an error came up saying, "Photobooth cannot open because either no camera is attached or the camera is in use by another application." i literally took the machine out of the box, went through some of the setup, then shut it down again...did i do something wrong??

it ended up being a hardware defect, so apple kindly replaced my system with no hassles! thanks apple!!

  • Isight not getting detected

I have a standalone isight and I use an IMAC G5.Its funny that my isight is not getting detected by my imac at all!! I have tried changing the firewire ports, but I just dont understand!! I hadnt been using for about a couple of months, I come back and try videochatting and it just doesnt work!!It says isight not connected!!
Can you suggest, what I need to do. I dont think I have the CD for isight either. I have had this isight for about 2 years now!

I had the same problem with my macBook. All of a sudden the green lites on my built in camera were not on and it did not recognize my isight camera...Couldn't get it to work till I plugged in an external isight camera....started working for a few weeks....then quite working again and read about reseting the prm on an intel based macbook....shut down everything, disconnected all power THEN pushed the power button for 5 seconds....repowered the computer and is came back on working.
Only problem, and the mac dealer told me this didn't matter but I'm not sure...I only get one green lite instead of two...
    any thoughts on this...
    Rick

  • Isight camera "not connected" but IS in USB configuration

My iSight [BUILT-IN] camera keeps being reported as "There is no camera connected" in 'Photo Booth', though it Does show up in the USB configuration of System Profiler, and most times still functions OK using Google Video Chat. (for the first 'known' time, it did not work for Google this past week)
So far, resetting the SMC has corrected the problem, but only for a few hours.
Is there a COMMAND I can give the MacBook to do what the SMC "fixes"?
Why is it being controlled by "System Preferences - Other - Flash Player"   instead of "Hardware"??  It seems that I Can Not just set it to "Block" because this also asks if I want Google Mail to be "allowed", which is my video chat method.
There are NO other users (a TEST account is set up for when I sent it to Apple last year, but that is Not Used); I simply would like to sometimes run Photo Booth to image the room or do a new profile pic, but this Constant Problem stops that.

    1. Click on Macintosh HD on the top right of your desktop (or whatever else you’ve called your Harddrive) 2. Click through System > Library > LaunchDaemons 3. Now look for the file com.apple.cmio.VDCAssistant.plist  - and send it to trash.  http://www.appleware.co.uk/2008/12/03/isight-camera-fix.html

  • My isight camera is showing not connected

i tried making a facetime call but its telling me camra not connected?

If restarting Mac doesn't fix the trouble,  Troubleshooting FaceTime for Mac may help you.
If not, try How to Troubleshoot iSight.  Test more than one Apple app in more than one User Account.
If none of the above helps, Reinstall OS X.

  • My camera is "not connected"

I am trying to use Face Time in my new MacBook Pro, but it says that the camera is not connected. Can anyone help?

    Hey Mate!
Try resetting the SMC of your Machine, In my experience this has solved this issue.
Also, to see whether your Camera is recognised by the Mac, go to  > About this Mac > More Info > USB > Check whether USB iSight Camera is listed there.
If it is, you can usually determine that the issue isn't Hardware Related, which means that it's Software, which means that it can definitely be fixed.
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Zet.

  • My internal camera is not  connected

my internal camera was working fine and then one day i tried to skype, but couldnt find the camera.  I uninstalled skype and tried the camera & it was working.  today I went to use iphoto and it said that my camera is not connected.  my macbook air is less than 12 months old.  can someone help.

annagreece wrote: ... could it be that the camera doesnt work when the battery is low? ...
    No.
Sometimes simply restarting Mac gets things working again.  Perhap that's what got your camera going again.
However, if your camera's problem continues or begins to occur more often,  try Apple's suggestions:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 which include the SMC/PMU reset suggestion captfred has already linked.
Always test more than one app in more than one user account.
(Apple has changed the camera's name on new Macs from iSight to FaceTime or FaceTime HD camera, but the same info and troubleshooting applies to all regardless of the name.)
If none of the Troubleshooting suggestions help you, you may have a hardware problem that will require a professional fix.  If so, make a current backup of your startup disk and then use the final suggestion:
"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

  • My camera doesn't work, it says its not connected.

Hi, i got a macbook air, and its been a while since my camera doesnt work,
    its says its not connected.

What kind of external camera is this? I am assuming it is a USB camera? Make sure that you aren't using any USB hubs. Also try connecting it to another USB port. Have you installed the drivers from the camera manufacturer yet?
    Thanks,
    Sean
