Isight not in profiler
I need a solution for my isight. Sometimes it disappears from my system profiler. I unplug it from my firewire port, but because of having Cerebral Palsy I am never able to plug it back in myself, so I usually have to wait until I find somebody to help me plug it in, then it works. Also, I realize I could turn it on and off using the lense, however I can't do that either. Would it be worthwhile to try a different firewire cable? By the way, we tried switching ports even.
Must have been a fluke problem, has not happened since.

ISight not Recognized? What?
I have the intel mac with built in iSight, and was experience problems with it. turns out that the logic board needed to be rplaced, and now my iSight is not being recognized. When i try to video chat i says that there is no camera connected.
Hello Jake Nadeau
When you post that your "iSight is not being recognized", do you mean that your built-in iSight is not listed as a USB device in your System Profiler? In your Mac's System Profiler, click the highlighted items as shown in the picture below to check for your iSight:
Especially if you cannot see your built-in iSight in System Profiler, your problem may be hardware related and need help from a Service Technician. However, unless you get better suggestions from iNtel Mac users, I suggest you first try these common solutions that help most who share your problem avoid a visit to their Apple Service Technician.
None of the suggestions is complicated, but the only way to find which one will work for you is to try each one until you find the one that fixes your Mac.
(0) Disconnect any unnecessary peripherals while you do your testing to rule out possible conflicts.
(1) Restart your Mac. Sometimes that is all that is required.
(2) If you use VMware Fusion to run Windows on your Mac, consider disconnecting iSight from your Virtual Machine as recommended by user "The.VCI" in this post:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4754048
(3) If you use an HP printer/scanner with your Mac, consider the "daemon" suggestions from user "parkersal" in this post:
http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4246676
(4) Check for any running applications, Login Items, or widgets that can use your iSight. (It is easy to forget widgets like Mirror in your Dashboard.) As explained in Apple's iSight " camera is in use by another application" message, iSight can be used by one application at a time.
(5) Try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in How to Troubleshoot iSight. Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
Click here if you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting.
(6) If resetting or the other troubleshooting suggestions do correct your problem, try the following:
• Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
• Repair permissions. (Click here if you need help.)
• Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (iNtel).
• Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
(7) A few iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging everything (including both AC power and all peripherals) from their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight.
(8) If none of these suggestions help, I suggest that you take your iMac to your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for a professional check.
To help others who may have the same problem, please post back which solution gets yours working again.

Built-In iSight NOT RECOGNIZED after EFI Update 1.1
After updating to EFI 1.1 on my iMac 20 Inch (2,16Ghz) the built-in iSight-Cam is not
working anymore. It´s not showing up in the system profiler > USB Devices.
I bought the iMac last week, switched it on, the cam took a picture on the user account creation,
I applied the EFI-Update and OSX 10.4.8. After that the cam was gone.
I tried everything from resetting SMC, PRAM to reinstalling Combo-Update 10.4.8 ... NOTHING helped !
Any ideas or solutions ???
P.S.: Sorry for my crappy English, I´m writing from Germany !Here´s a report from MacFixIt.com about this problem:
http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20061211231332862
Built-in iSight not recognized Some users have reported loss of their built-in iSights after applying the iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.1. In some cases, this issue can be resolved by resetting the SMC (system management controller) using this process:
1. From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
3. Wait at least 15 seconds.
4. Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
5. Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
Resetting PRAM can solve a variety of issues As mentioned in our coverage of recent EFI Firmware updates issued for other Macs, a number of potentially serious issues apparent after applying this EFI Firmware Update can be resolved by simply resetting PRAM/NVRAM via the following process:
Shut down your Mac, then start it back up while immediately holding the following keys: Command, Option, P and R. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
This workaround is a good first course of action before exploring more complex fixes. It should also be attempted if your system cannot properly startup after applying the update. -
ISight not working with mac programs, functional with Tech Tool Deluxe
MBP 15 (late 2008)
iSight not functional, ie "no camera connected" when using photobooth, imovie, ichat, skype, but when I fire up tech tool deluxe 5, it's working - I can see myself and it is functional. Tried all the restarts, etc. Can I fix this myself or is this an applecare issue?
ThanksWelcome to Discussions, johnnychickenfoot
One of the relevant suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 will get it working.
If you can make your iSight work properly and repeatedly with any app in any user account you test, your problem is software related.
A properly performed reset as suggested in the Troubleshooting article often restores function to built-in iSights. If that continues not to work for you in any user account, consider software troubleshooting like the relevant ideas from here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1388
Because your iSight works with TTD, your System Profiler should recognize your built-in iSight as a USB device. If you need to post back for other suggestions, please confirm that System Profiler can see your iSight when TTD is not running.

Isight not always recognised by Powerbook
Hi,
I'm new to apple and it's also my first laptop. I've bought an Isight, because it's fun to videochat, but my Powerbook doesn't always recognise my Isight! (System profiler -> Hardware -> Firewire) Sometimes it says Isight and sometimes it displays nothing! Same problem goes for Ichat...
How can I fix this?Test your iSight to ensure it is functional.
If your iSight fails some of these tests, and if the suggestions in Apple's trouble shooting link there do not correct your problem, take your iSight to an Apple Service Technician for a professional check.
If you need more help, try the suggestions in Where to Find Help for iSight.
Being new to Apple and iSight, once you have an iSight that works reliably, you might find Using iSight helpful. -
Help!!! Built in iSight Not Functioning on Brand New 24" iMac
I just purchased an iMac 24" 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor computer, and the built-in iSight camera will not function.
The store that I bought the computer from, informed me prior to purchase that several previous customers experienced the same problem, and that I should return to the store should I experience the same thing.
Is there a software fix for this????
Is there a preference fix for this???As stated. I followed the Apple Support webpage instruction listed below. Still no success. My isight will not function with any other application (ie. iChat, iMovie, PhotoBooth, etc...)\
G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
1. See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
2. See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
4. Reset SMC or PMU Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service. -
i have an early 2008 MacBook Pro. My built-in iSight camera is no onger found when I open iChat, FaceTime, Photobooth or Skype. I have repaired Permissions, reinstalled the combo updater for 10.7.2, reset the SMU. When I go into System Profiler, under USB, the camera doesn't appear.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
LarryIf you certain that you used the correct SMU "reset" procedure for your particular MBP, you seem to have tried all the things users can do to get iSight working again, Larry.
If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 suggestions do not help you, and especially with your inbuilt iSight not being recognized as one of your Mac's USB devices, yours is most likely a hardware problem that will require a professional fix.
Unless you have a current backup, make one now.
Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:
"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

Isight not recognized by Skype, Google Video Chat, Logitech VID and ichat.
MacBook4,1 Firewire
Leopard 10.5.8
Skype 2.8.0.866
Quicktime Plug in 7.6.9
QUictime player MIA
Here is my story. I will try and make it as brief as possible.
The other day, I put a rented DVD into my dvd drive, and it didn't load. I checked for updates for Mac or quicktime. Nothing available. I did some googlin, and someone suggested I zap pram, repair permissions. I blindly obeyed. That didn't help. Then I messed around with quicktime. Not sure what I did. Finally, I had to download the latest version of VLC to watch my movie. I have no idea of my problems with QT have anything to do with my isight issues with Skype and the like, but I mentioned it just in case.
The next morning, when I went to skype, my video wasn't sending. I'm not sure if my chat partners video was working, we usually only do it one way. Me sending.
I checked to see if my video was working in photobooth. Indeed it was (and still does).
I have to date:
Downloaded the latest version of QT (7.6.9 for Leopard)- the web plug-in for watching QT online is installed and running properly.
After install, the QT player does not show up in applications, or anywhere else on the hard drive.
I Messed around with QT in ways I can't describe. Trying to install older versions, removing who knows what files. Installing again.
zapped PRAM
Cleared preferences for Skype by removing skype plist
download latest version skype
deleted all skype files I could find
reinstall Skype
repaired permissions (FIRST THING I DID)
Put your Mac to sleep
Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple
Shut down your Mac
Start up mac
Shutting down, disconnecting power supply, taking out batter, putting dumte mac together again
changed permissions on skype specifically to make sure all accounts were read/write
tried setting using skype with a new account
tried using skype, google video and logitech using wifi at my work
uninstalled PREY video security app plug in
removed and uninstalled divx
removed and uninstalled perian
Checked Preferences>Video show a black screen that says "No Video Camera Connected" and does not show ANY cameras in the video camera chooser drop down"
NOTE: Google Video Chat does show the isight cam, but a black screen. Logitech just has a black screen and asks "where in the interweb is your cam buddy?
I have searched and failed to find CamCamX5.component
Tested video in Google Chat and Logitech VID chat. built-in isight not recognized
Tested video in iChat - I chat crashed when opening. (i posted the crash report at the end of this post)
I'm sure I'm missing some.......
SOME THINGS I HAVE NOT YET TRIED
ROSETTA - in the Skype info pane, Rosetta is greyed out. I don't know if I have it, don't know where to get it. Don't know if I need.
Installing Skype while playing Stairway to Heaven backwards
Reset SMC or PMU
Done disk repair - I'm not sure how to do that, I used to have a disc for my old mac for that
Deleted iPhotoPhotocast and/or QuartzComposer.
Closing Firefox and starting Skype
install older version of skype

I know this is a lot of info. I hope I didn't miss anything. I use skype with three people. Three very important people. Two of which, meh, the video isn't important. ONe where the video option is paramount.
I'm just a little frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help.Hi,
We will come back to iChat if required.
It does prefer an Screen Name to be added as you go through the Start Up Screens (First Run) but you can click through these and just access the iChat > Preferences > Video Section to view a Preview.
I must admit to not seeing a Crash Log when the known chosen Mic/Audio Input has not been listed.
However if the External Audio was Firewire connected that may explain things.
NOTE:-
mAudio and other Firewire Audio Devices do tend to need the Most up-to-date drivers to work properly.
Sometimes it pays not to do a COMBO or other Software Update until you know the drivers are ready for it.
With any OS update above the 10.x.1 point will also have a COMBO version.
The COMBO then includes all the updated items between the base level OS and the latest Update.
So for 10.6 there is only what is called a Delta for 10.6.1
There is a delta (10.6.1 to 10.6.2 only) and a COMBO (10.6 to 10.6.2) for the next update and this is repeated through 10.6.6
The Deltas only include those things that are Updated on that occasion (As in the 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 example - 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 would not include the stuff in 10.6.4 or earlier)
COMBOs can be installed "Over-the-Top" of what you have already installed.
It is certainly needed when you Re-install something (Apple apps/Files etc) from the Install Disk you have when your OS has been updated beyond that point.
Some apps like iChat Get their Updates in the OS Updates and need to "Match" the progression.
The 10.5.8 COMBO (Your specs say 10.5.8) is Here
For others the 10.6.5 COMBO is here
and 10.6.6 COMBO IS here
<hr>
Quicktime.
The Download and Install should be all the parts of Quicktime.
Internet Plug-ins for Browsers, various System Files to make Quicktime work for other apps, various Components to play various formats and of course the Player itself.
The Player should be in the Applications Folder with this icon:-
The OS 10.6 version (Quicktime X has a big blue X icon)
If you mean it has disappeared from the DOCK you can Drag the Application back to the DOCK to make the icon (and link to app) again (The app stays in the Applications folder the OS just makes an icon and links it for you by doing this)
One of the biggest causes of many apps not working is turning Off/Disabling certain Fonts the apps need.
Follow the Link in this Users Tip by Kurt Lang. Make sure that the Correct System Fonts are ON.

I'm using Vista, 32 bit - not even downloading the beta version of Firefox 4 helps; it downloads (just like the regular version of Firefox, 3.4) and I can install it, but trying to run it gives me nothing - no warning, no text; it just doesn't open up, but is still visible in my start menu, programs folder and in task manager. And not even profile manager opens up.
Make sure that you do not remove your personal data when you uninstall Firefox. Then you won't lose personal data stored in a different location in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder].

Starting yesterday (I believe) we are suddenly receiving a "User not found" error when trying to view a user's profile page when clicking on their name (in search or elsewhere) via the url
https://www.contoso.org/Person.aspx?accountname=contoso%255Cmyuserlogin
This is happening for all users. (but profiles exist and seem ok, and sync with AD is running fine) When looking in the logs I see the error (full ULS log is later below)
Exception in LoadRequestedUserProfile: (Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserNotFoundException: User Not Found: Could not load profile data from the database.
The only clue of what MAY be going on is just before that I see the following two lines which came up after I changed the Database logging to Verbose:
ConnectionString: 'Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][UPAPROFILEDB]' Partition:
NULL ConnectionState: Closed ConnectionTimeout: 15
SQL connection time: 0.0456 for Data Source=INSTANCE;Initial Catalog=UPAPROFILEDB;Integrated Security=True;Enlist=False;Pooling=True;Min Pool Size=0;Max Pool Size=100;Connect Timeout=15;Application Name=SharePoint[w3wp][3][HNet3_Svc_Prod_UPA_Profile]
If I am reading that correctly, does it mean the connection to the database is timing out instantly? I am able to use powershell to pull up profiles and print them to the screen while on the webservers. And it's only the one specific page that is not
working.
What sort of tests or further debugging can I do for the error above?
We are on premise, SharePoint 2013 sp1, sql2012, server 2012, claims using the full SharePoint Profiile Sychronization against AD. Farm has been running since last august. Last week the admin team did run windows update on all servers, I can't be sure
if it was broken for 5 days and no one noticed or if it broke yesterday.
I already did the following:
Verified the profiles do exist in central admin.
I can still access their personal sites directly via
https://www.contoso.org/personal/myuserlogin
I checked the ProfileDB database and made sure the service accounts for the UPA has dbowner, so does the farm account, and the web application pool has SPDataAccess.
Verified the AD sync account has proper rights in AD.
I reran a full synchronization which ran with no errors.
File systems on the webservers and appserver have plenty of free space.
Rebooted every server in farm
I even checked the bin directory of the mysite webapplication, (since once I had a weird problem where access to bin was removed.) WSS_ADMIN_WPG, WSS_RESTRICTED_WPG_W4 have full control and WSS_WPG,IIS_IUSRS all have read and execute.
I opened powershell on the webserver I can indeed load profiles and print their values.

SQLJ Translation does not create profile file
SQLJ Translation does not create profile file.
After translating a small file HelloWorld.sqlj
the following files are created:
HelloWorld_SJProfileKeys.class
HelloWorld.class
HelloWorld.java
Although there is a HelloWorld_SJProfileKeys.class, profile file HelloWorld_SJProfile0.ser has NOT been created.
The starting file .sqlj file HelloWorld.sqlj is taken from O'Reilly book 'Java Programming with Oracle SQLJ' by Jason Price. The file contains a valid SQL statement to display the date.
My environment variables were set up with instructions from:
http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2001/12/05/learning_sqlj.html
When I run java HelloWorld to run the .java file, I get the error:
SQLException java.sql.SQLException: profile HelloWorld_SJProfile0 not found: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: HelloWorld_SJProfile0
I searched the internet high and low for a similar error to mine but I could not find a match.
I read the following text from http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/htdocs/faq.html#translationerrors
but it does not help me.
"ClassNotFoundException: xxx.yyy_SJProfile0 for class xxx.yyy_SJProfileKeys
If you see an exception such as:
java.sql.SQLException: profile xxx.yyy_SJProfile0 not found:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException:
xxx.yyy_SJProfile0 for class xxx.yy_SJProfileKeys
then you must ensure that the SQLJ profile(s), such as xxx/yyy_SJProfile0.ser, is available in the SQLJ runtime environment. This includes JARing this file as part of an applet deployment, or publishing it to the server via loadjava.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance,
John

Brand new MacBook Air (June 2013, 8MB RAM, 500GB SSD)
iSight not working with Cisco Webex, Citrix GoToMeeting or Microsoft Lync (error = webcam not detected); BUT iSight works with Skype, Facetime and Photobooth.
3 hours of phone support with Webex - no luck.
Tried SMC and PRAM reset - no luck.
Tried erasing disk and reinstalling OSX 10.8.4 and apps manually with latest versions - no luck.
Apple phone support says it's not Apple's problem because Apple apps work.
Exchanged at Apple Store for another new MacBook Air, again installed apps manually with latest version (not from time machine) - STILL NO LUCK!!!
Is there an update Apple or Cisco, Citrix and Microsoft need to put out for the new MBAs or do I just have 2 lemons???You're welcome.

It will be interesting to see what the vendors say about using a Mac-compatible external webcam.
If not, some netbook or other Windows® device might offer compatibility at a much lower cost than a compatible Apple notebook.
We will watch for your update(s). What the vendors tell you will be very helpful to others who share this or similar issues with their new MBAs.

I have a standalone isight and I use an IMAC G5.Its funny that my isight is not getting detected by my imac at all!! I have tried changing the firewire ports, but I just dont understand!! I hadnt been using for about a couple of months, I come back and try videochatting and it just doesnt work!!It says isight not connected!!
Can you suggest, what I need to do. I dont think I have the CD for isight either. I have had this isight for about 2 years now!I had the same problem with my macBook. All of a sudden the green lites on my built in camera were not on and it did not recognize my isight camera...Couldn't get it to work till I plugged in an external isight camera....started working for a few weeks....then quite working again and read about reseting the prm on an intel based macbook....shut down everything, disconnected all power THEN pushed the power button for 5 seconds....repowered the computer and is came back on working.
Only problem, and the mac dealer told me this didn't matter but I'm not sure...I only get one green lite instead of two...
any thoughts on this...

Hi
Will iSight not open if there's no camerea attatched? when I click on it it seems to open but there's nothing on screen?Hi George,
You need to do this
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=121719
At the bottom of this you will see you need to run the Combo install for the OS level you are at.
(even if you have only gone form OS 10.4.7 to 10.4.8 run the Combo as it is the only way iChat gets updated)
Combos are in this list
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ Type the OS (10.4.8) into the search field and then pick the PCC or Intel version.
Download and install.
