Isight not responding... router poss prob

I have a voyager 205 I have connected this to an airport express and obviously sent this to my imac with tiger (imac g4)
When I invite someone to a video i see myself in the preview pic but nothing else even though it says it is connecting.....
if the situation is vice versa I accept but it says i did not respond
and the final thing that has happened is that it says i have insufficient bandwidth... I have done a speed test and had something like 1490/240
which i was told was ok
PLEASE HELp

Hello Brian,
I have tried my isight on other networks.Good comments, and a good way to test your iSight and your Mac, As you proved with your test from another location, both of them are working.
... if my isight works on another network the port issue shouldn't be on.iSight does not have ports. Rather, ports are communications settings that deal with networking.
Many users' systems do not require port configuration. For many of us, iChat AV with iSight is plug-and-play simple. However, your smart testing has shown that your home network requires some additional effort.
Because your Mac works when you are connected to another network, I suggest you try configuring the ports on your home network (router.) Then test your system at home to see whether iChat AV works there once the router ports are properly configured.
See the How can I get my router to work with iChat? FAQ for help on what port settings are required. Your router instruction (users) manual will help you with how to make the settings.
For more info, also see Ralph Johns'
b GREAT
iChat Personal Web Pages. (You may want to bookmark Ralph's entire site as a primary iChat AV reference.) Particularly, the sections on Router Set Up in the menu and its sub-menu items give specific info on "Setting Up Your Router" and "Eliminating Problem areas."
If you need more help with how to set your router, you may find step-by-step help for your particular device at http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
Some users who enable their Mac OS X system firewall find that the same ports must also be opened in their Mac OS X System Preference > Sharing > Firewall. However, because your Mac works on another network, I suggest you try and test the router ports first.

My iSight just shows black. When I open photobooth, it starts off showing an image, as though i was in an incredibly dim lit room, then fades to black. It does not respond to light at all. Is there any options I can mess with or anything I can do to fix this?

  • Built-In iSight not responding

Hey. My iSight camera is not working on my macbook for whatever reason. I have checked the system profiler, user accounts, other programs, and reset the smc. Any suggestions?

    Welcome to Discussions, Searcy91
Try EVERY relevant suggestions from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
If your iSight problem occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the PMU / SMC reset suggested there (instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 ) often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if your built-in iSight does not show as a USB device in the System Profiler after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, yours is most likely a hardware problem that will require help from an Apple Service Technician.
As stated in Apple's "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article:
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • ISight problem not responding

I had the common "user does not respond" issue when trying to use iSight through iChat so I trawled through the postings listed and did everything recommended from opening up ports to turning off firewalls.... I then found out I had no problem connecting US to US but when I tried to connect to a user in the UK I got the problem. Strange thing is that the UK user can connect to the US user I can connect to ???! Why would this be:
    ie. if there are three users "UK", "US1" and "US2";
    US1 can connect to US2
    UK can connect to US2
UK can NOT connect to US1.....
    my kingdom for a solution.

  • ISight V.3 - user did not respond - US to UK

Hi there, I am beset with the same problems as so many of you are it seems with ISight. I am trying to video conference with someone across the Atlantic with no joy. I use a DSL line here at my office, have bonjour as well as AIM open and can ichat fine with them and video with others in my office (at times), but not with London (I am in NY). It rings , Iaccept and then nothing, and just gently sits there and declares that I did not respond. What should I do? The person I am talking to has one of the new intel MacBook Pros.
    Please anyone? help

    hi Lemaxster,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
It sounds like there is no porblem with the ports iChat needs to do Bonjour chats if that is what you are describing.
It looks like it is the other ports the AV side needs to have open that may be causing you problems.
Do you know if these ports are open in any modem or router ?
    5060, 5190, 5678, 16384-16403 ?
Do you know what method of opening the ports is being used ?
Can you get to any of the accounts in TAble 1 here

What about any of the people in Table 2 ?

  • Isight says i'm not responding

sorry if this topic has allready been posted, but my probs with isight just keep getting worse!!
my boyfriend and i both have ibook G4's and when we bought our isights i was running panther and he had tiger. at this stage when tried to chat i was told he wasn't responding when he did, and he was told this too.
now i have upgraded to tiger and now the isight says that i too am not responding, as well as him!
please help! these need to start working! we got them so we talk with him at uni and he's half way through his first year allready!!!

We will help you get things working.
Both of you should test with more than one other user to determine which end of the connection is causing your symptoms. If you do not have enough available buddies for testing, you can find more Buddy Names for iChat Test here.
The iChat AV 3 user(s?) who has trouble with most users should try the relevant suggestions in Help for iChat AV 3 Problems.
If either of you is using a shared connection, as people in uni may do, be sure to Check your Broadband Speed.
Also, I saw your post about iPod. Consider Possible hardware or software conflicts and How I Update My Mac OS X. particularly if you are still using a version of Panther.

  • ISight "did not respond"

using a macbook...OS 10.4.7 the person im trying to video chat with is using the same setup but when we try to video chat we get the message "the user did not respond" despite the fact that we are both accepting the requests. in addition to this, when the video chat request is accepted, the camera icons in the buddy list will "dim" for a few seconds, then the error message will show up. can someone please alleviate this situation...i had tons of issues with the iSight for my iBook, and now i still have issues with the iSight on my MacBook.
btw-the connection doctor says "chat ended with error -8"

    Hello itabbal,
"no one? gotta love apple support. for a feature advertised as much as iSight, apple seems to care little about the product actually working"
You do know that we are not Apple support, but just other Mac users trying to help each other; if we have some experience that we can share, don't you?
Apple to the best of my knowledge does not answer or even read any of these discussions threads unless a "trip-word" or report draws their attention for not staying within the rules.
So, that said, check out this regarding your error-8 problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=612733&tstart=0
And be sure to check out the reference to Ralph John's link/site. He's put a lot of time & effort into it for no gain but the chance that his experience might help someone else.
Or just try typing in error-8 in quotes in the "Search Discussions" and see if any of the solutions offered will help you out.

  • Just resolved Back to my Mac issue called Apple Suppport in the UK and they were really helpful if the error DNS server not responding the problem is with Apple server not your server ( I had tried to reboot by router, restart my laptop etc.

I was having problem with my Back to my Mac as message was saying DNS Server not responding . I tried to turn my WIFI off, then my router  to no avail. Decided to call Apple Support line in the UK . I got a call back immediatly and great support.  The advisor took over my screen and we check that my laptop was synchronising   with I phots and it was.  The adviser also told that when the message DNS server is not responding next to Back to my Mac is has to do with Apple Server not mine , router etc... Hope this save others some time! Rather than spending time truining on and off changing IP address etc...

Thanks for your thorough post. I too need to use BTMM on almost a daily basis for my job, and it has fallen short countlness times. I too have taken great pains to check all of the typical trouble shooting steps within iCloud and in the Apple keychain on each Mac etc, but after the latest rounds of system updates from Apple a few weeks ago to Mountain Lion, BTMM on one of my Macs is completely broken and unusable. I would concur that if you need remote access for "real" mission critical use, just bite the bullet and pay for a service like LogMeIn. You won't regret it and you will get real software support.

  • SAP Router - Host did not respond 8 times

    Guys,
I'm able to test OSS connection successfully in SM59. But in service connections, whenever i open connections, the connection failing to open with the "Host did not respond 8 times " error before changing to Cancel. Any suggestions please?

There was a little glitch in the saprouttab file, which i fixed. But interesting to note that it didn't clear the error. I keep having the same error, but SAP was able to connect inspite of that. As i read elsewhere, often times this error is misleading. anyway, thanks.

  • Error Message: " '[name of my computer]' did not respond.  (error -8)

I know that this topic has been submitted a million times, but I need personal attention now. The topic discussions have been really helpful except for the fact that my ichat video STILL DOESN'T WORK. I read and do all the sets of advice and instructions and STILL NOTHING.
My main message usually always says, " '[name of my computer]' did not respond.' The only differing message I've received is from my mom's laptop (a Dell Latitude D610, Intel) which says that " '[name of her computer] has declined'. I've checked out the error reports which are always labeled (error -8).
Once I was able to connect, with absolutely no hitch, when I was sent an all out video conference chat from a G4 Mac about 4 months ago. My ichat hasn't worked since which is why I've been trouble shooting since then.
Based off of the advice, I opened ports 5060, 5190, 5220, 5222, 5297, 5298, 5353, 16384-16403 on both TCP and UPD and turned the firewalls off in one then turned them on again.
I've read the iChat support and they all say that they are compatible with tons of operating systems and platforms. But, my video still doesn't work to other computers or work in general. Please can someone tell me how to get this to work? Puhleeeease. I've been at it for months now....

    Thanks!
I, too have had the same problem, but only recently — maybe coincident with recent updates to iChat — and I too would like to know what error -8 means.
I am running a Dual 1GHz PowerPC G4 Mac with automatically updated software, connected via ADSL at 512/128. The Internet Interface is a router/firewire/switch/modem (D-Link DSL-G604T) and I have programmed it to keep the required ports open. The audio input is from an iSight: audio out to some external speakers from line out. Programming hasn't been changed for months, and the problem has only occurred recently, so it doesn't look like a Firewall or address translation problem.
In my case, I tried several things:
    1. I tried to initiate an audio chat with someone who has a Mac Mini PowerPC with most updates on it, and a 56K modem. I have had many audio chats over many months with this person.
Some days ago, it failed to complete a connection with the comment that my end didn't answer. I take this to mean that the final handshake message from the my end wasn't sent, since the connect window indicated the other side had responded positively.
The buddy on the other end then initiated an audio chat session to which I responded. This time, error -8 was accompanied with a message that the other side had failed to respond to the final handshake.
I presumed that it was some sort of glitch either on the network or in my computer and we finished the conversation on the phone. The system has been rebooted several times in the meantime, and the integrity of the system disk checked: that should have got rid of any local anomolous state
    2. The exact same thing happened today when I attempted to communicate with a new buddy introduced through email. This new buddy has recent (but unknown to me) Mac equipment running OS X, and a broadband connection.
We were testing the connection after she had set up iChat with an AIM screen name to be ready for a Saturday sched to step her through installation of some difficult to set up software.
At that point, I realised my first failure wasn't a system glitch, and found this message board.
    So, any help from anybody?
Keep in mind that this is a recently-introduced problem on a stable (other than Apple updates?) system that has been running on audio and even one-way video with 4 different buddies (three on Macs and one on Win XP with AIM) for months.

  • Does this help your "user did not respond" problem?

    Here’s what was going on.
If I call a buddy #1 > I get the “user did not respond”.
If I call buddy #2 > I get “user did not respond”.
However, If I call buddy #3 it works right away, no problems what so ever.
This was a constant problem, the same result over and over again when attempting to connect.
Three out of the four of us have something in common
So, how come when I call buddy #1 and buddy #2 does iChat displays “user did not respond” ? Thinking about it, we all have multiple Macs (except buddy number 3) on a network and the same router. So it appears that when I try to call someone with more than one Mac on the network I get the error.
Again, all three of us had something else in common we were all using a DMZ service on the router to direct internet traffic to a Mac which was not running iChat (ie a server).
    Time to experiment
Buddy #1 disabled DMZ then I called him.. nothing but the “user did not respond” message. I disabled DMZ (now both off us have DMZ off) I called him again (after restarting iChat) and it worked.
We both restarted iChat, Macs, Routers multiple times and it still worked 8 out of 10 times. Now, this is a huge improvement on failing to connect every-time. I did however remember reading somewhere about changing the default port number.
    More Settings
The default port number iChat uses also stops my video and audio from working but this is easily fixed.
Open iChat and make yourself off line then navigate to:
iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server Settings.
Change the default port to 443.
Close the window and make yourself available
iChat now connects to video and audio calls every single time.
So, for us it looks like disabling DMZ and changing the port number worked perfectly.
    Instructions.
    1. Quit iChat
    2. Log into your router (enter the routers address in the address bar of your internet browser)
    3. Look for a DMZ setting, possibly listed within the WAN SetUp section.
    4. Disable DMZ
    5. You may need to restart your router
    6. Configure iChat's defualt port number (shown avbove)
    7. Make your-self 'Available' on iChat
    8. Start a video chat.
I would highly recommend that you pass this information on to your online buddies you wish to video or audio chat with. This configuration has to be set on both the caller's and and receiving buddies computer

    Hi Jan,
    Some notes.
The Certain Buddy problem is almost certainly down to NAT issues.
DMZ is an extreme form of Port Forwarding and is therefore a NATted service on most devices.
Netgears are know to kave this problem with iChat even with the same model with the same firmware.
It means the problem continues in Port Forwarding, Port Triggering and DMZ.
UPnP (Universal Plug n Play) is not a NAT service so will get around this.
However there seems to be somthing quirky with Netgear's implemintation of this that needs it started up at least twice to work properly.
The need to change the port from 5190 to 443 normally occures on those devices and firmware that Port Forwards AND list protocols to open the ports which then lists port 5190 twice.
Changing the port in iChat and then disabling the Port forward on port 5190 TCP also should get around this problem.

  • "Did not respond" error message

    hey all,
i'm sure you're all sick and tired of hearing this question, but i have to ask. here's the story, my mom recently got an iMac G5. i'm a college student in CA, and while i was home with my mom in CO, i used my mom's iMac G5 with built in iSight to video conference with girlfriend in MN. SO, i know that both my mom's iSight and my girlfriend's camera (although she does have a PC) work without a problem!
now that i'm back at school, i thought it'd be nice to have iSight for my iBook G4 to video conference with my mom and my girlfriend. however, having plugged in my brand new iSight and tested it (it does show me on the screen), when i try to v-conference with my mom or my girlfriend, it says THEY did not respond. despite this message, i'm thinking the problem is me since i know for a fact that both of theirs work. given that i'm on a college campus and there's a lot of talk about Firewall restrictions on college networks i'm wondering if that could be the problem. i tried connecting with the Apple "test" screennames, and it said that "appleu3test02" did not respond.
    my Connection Doctor says:
    2006-01-26 18:03:18 -0800: MBergner did not respond.
Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports:
    24.221.209.14:10616, 192.168.0.119:5060
2006-01-26 18:22:26 -0800: Apple Test did not respond.
Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports:
    17.202.39.240:5060
    2006-01-26 18:25:40 -0800: appleu3test01 did not respond.
Tried to send UDP SIP "invite" to the following IP addresses and ports:
    17.202.39.240:5060
Anyone have any suggestions? MUCH appreciated. i just spent $150 on iSight and it would be a shame to not be able to use it for the ONE reason i bought it. thanks so much!!
    David

    Hi David,
Who is your Mom's ISP ?
Do you mean that when the connection goes out of her house it is Wireless to some pint down the street ?
Or is she piggybacking on to someone else's service ?
I take it you sister is on a Wireless ISP service ?
OK. Your college for instance will be using a connection to the internet. In a home situation that interface is usually done by a modem whether or not it is to a Cable, Wirelss or DSL service.
In that modem the ports have to be open for iChat.
The same is true of teh device the colege uses to connect to the interent.
Some people also elect to have a router in their room so that they can use things like games consols over the same connection as their computer uses.
That router would also need the ports open for iChat.
There are differing methods for opening the ports.
Port Forwarding can take the data on one port from the internet (Outside) and point it to one computer on your local net. Most often the ports are kept the Same.
Port Triggering is similar but allows several coputers to use the same ports and waits until data comes on a specific port before others are open.
UPnP give control of the ports to the Application and opens them when the application needs them.
Do you plug straight into a wall socket ?
If so you may need to talk to the IT guys about which ports they have open.
The Apple Doc does say you only need the ports you list but the modem or connection device will, need more.
    5060, 5190, 5678, 16384-16403 for the AIM AV contacts
    5297, 5298 and 5353 are for Bonjour/Rendezvous
Apple Doc 93208 is also wrong at Note 1.
    It should read:
    1. All iChat AV traffic is UDP except for ports 5190 and 5298, which need to be open for both TCP and UDP; and 5220, 5222, and 5223 which need to be open for TCP only.
This Doc is now for iChat 3 as well and the TCP ports at the end are the Jabber ones thatare added for iChat 3 You need the Bold and italised text.
The UDP and TCP protocols listed are used more often in Port Triggering and are needed in the Tiger version of the MAc firewall that you seem to have set ports in.
The college of course may be blocking the ports for iChat so that their server is not over burdened by Video chats.
Can you Log in to AIM ?
    Ralph
