ISight on MacBook 2009 constantly on

Hello and thanks in advance for any advice anyone can offer.
My 2009 MacBook has suddenly developed an odd fault: since the automatic software update, the iSight built-in camera is on and I can't seem to be able to turn it off.
I have tried:
- shutting down all applications that might use the camera - only Skype was open -
- checking the dock for any other ones open - none
- looking in System Profiler for any applications that automatically open it, but can't see any
- looking for iSight in profiler, but can't see it listed
- using Photo Booth, without any problems, but it still didn't turn it off when I closed the application.
- restarting the MacBook, still no joy...
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Toni

If you are trying to recover photo stream photos, they are only held in iCloud for 30 days.  All you would be able ro recover is photo stream photos from the last 30 days.
If you have an iOS device that still has the photo stream photos one it, you can save them to the camera roll by opening the my photo stream album, tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Once in the camera roll, they can be imported to iPhoto on your Mac as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t use iCloud. There's an iCloud Support Community where everybody uses iCloud. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/icloud/icloud_on_my_mac

I had iLife pre-installed on my aluminium Macbook 2009 with OSX Leopard on it. My hard drive broke but got most of the info off it and just installed snow Leopard on to a new drive and then downloaded and installed Mountain Lion over it. Now I don't have iLife anymore. How do I get it back?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Mac OS X doesn't come with iLife applications, so you have to install them manually after installing Mac OS X.
Insert the Applications disc or Mac OS X Install Disc 2 DVD and install iLfe applications. Then, open  > Software Update, and install the latest update. If you want, you can purchase iMovie, GarageBand and iPhoto in the App Store, so you will get the most recent version

The model 7,1 is actually the Mid 2010 MacBook and is the only MacBook with a Mini DisplayPort that sends audio along with the video, Here's some Mini DisplayPort to HDMI with audio adapters from Amazon.

I have an older macbook 2009.  Will a shell for a macbook pro 13 inch fit this 2009 macbook?

I strongly recommend that you have your MBP battery rep[laced by Apple.  You will have the correct battery, it will work and have a warranty.
Third party batteries have often proven to be totally unsatisfactory and I have my doubts that the 2011 battery will fit in your MBP.
    Ciao.

  • Mountain lion = crashes on macbook 2009 - any help?

after installing mountain lion i'm experincing crashes with my macbook 2009 - any help?

    Checked the startup disk lately?
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the disk needs repairing, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Be aware, OS X Recovery requires a high speed broadband connection.
Backup all your important files before repairing or restoring OS X just in case.

  • I have a white Macbook 2009 on OSX Lion. It came with the OSX Snow Leopard CD, I erased the HDD and am trying to install the OSX from disc but am getting "cannot install OSX from disc" message. What can I do?

I have a white Macbook 2009 on OSX Lion. It came with the OSX Snow Leopard CD, I erased the HDD and am trying to install the OSX from disc but am getting "cannot install OSX from disc" message. What can I do?
I got the macbook from a friend a few years ago and it already had OSX Lion installed. Whenever it boots from the Snow Leopard disc it says it cannot install from disc. Is there anythingI can do or should I take it to an Apple store to get them to boot OSX Lion for me?

Insert your Snow Leopard disc and restart, press and hold the C key as soon as you hearthe startup chime, hold C until you see the Apple Logo. When your computer starts up you'll be at the first install screen, choose your language and click the arrow to go to the next screen. This screen has a menu bar, from the Utilities menu select Disk Utility, select your hard drive, this is the one with the manufacturers name or numbers, click the partition tab and then delete any existing partitions by selecting them and clicking the minus. In the drop down box select one partition and click apply. Name your hard drive and click erase. When it's done quit DU and go back to the installer, install Snow Leopard. When the installer is done and the computer is back up and running run Software Update to get to 10.6.8

Will I be able to Mirror my macbook 2009 with my apple tv if i download os x moutain lion ?

No, no MacBook can run AirPlay. You need a Mac that was built after 2011 and the MacBooks were discontinued in Mid 2010.

  • Any point to disabling dock reflections on my Macbook 2009? Will I gain more performance or not really?

I know that for some odd reason when I shut the translucent bar off on my Macbook 2009 that for some odd reason my Macbooks cpu runs a lot cooler and when I play hd videos 720p vids that I don't hear my cpu fan starting up. The tranlucent bar was taking that much of my cpu or nvidia 9400m intergrated gpu performance up? I'm wondering if I can gain even more performance gain if I shut my dock reflections off. Would I gain even more performance or do you think that would be pointless to shut off the reflections on dock because it's probably not taking up too much performance? Also, I think the only way to shut reflections off in the dock would be through the terminal which is kind of odd that they don't give you a feature in system preferences to shut it off.

No change in peformance. Disabling is pointless.
For the reflection, you can make changes in System Preferences > Dock
    (No need for Terminal)
Select or deselect whichever you want:   Show indicator lights for open applications

  • Can I swap the harddisks between a new MacBook Air and a MacBook 2009?

Can I swap the harddisks between a new MacBook Air and a MacBook 2009?
I want to buy a MacBook Air and give my MacBook to my wife but
I want to keep all my files, itunes libraries, user accounts, etc.
Will the new Mac Book Air detect the new hardware and install the new
    drivers by itself?

Hi uni2canarias and welcome to Apple Discussions!
The hard drive in the MacBook Air is not meant to be user replaceable. Further, the OS installed on your MacBook would likely not run the MacBook Air.
A better solution might be to use the Migration Assistant to move your data to the new computer. This comes up when you are setting up the new computer for the first time.
    Best of luck.

  • Macbook 2009 needs updating advice

I am on here looking for some opinions, advice or warnings on the following. I now have a macbook 2009 version running Leopard 10.5.8 that won't play youtube videos or even play music samples on Beatport Download anymore. I need to update as best i can.
I have checked the system requirements and it seems to me i have the right spec computer to update right up to Mountain Lion.
The question ,is it advisable to update such an old macbook to the newest OS?    And if I do go from what i have, to even Snow Leopard or newer ,will i be wiping the HD completely clean and be returning 150gb like a brand new macbook.
Please ask me to clarify if i have not been clear enough in the question.
    Thanks in advance
    John

The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is back in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
