Isight only choice for BTV, Quicktime Video Capture

Until I installed an iSight camera, I could capture video from TV via USB and Quicktime, Interview, or BTV.
With iSight connected, Quicktime's "video source" choice is "iSight" or "Automatic".
In BTV and Interview, the only option for "video source" available is "iSight". The other video source options are grayed-out.
How do I get the video input options back?

Thanks for the new info, yattaman
I do not see a question in your latest post, but it seems to me that your TV capture device or its software is probably conflicting with iSight or your other applications.
The software that you use to drive your iSight always "takes over video input" while it is in use, so that may be your problem. As explained in this Apple kBase article, iSight can be used by one application at a time.
If you are using only one app at a time but still have the problem, be sure all your software, including the TV capture software and QuickTime are up-to-date. If your problem persists, the only suggestion I can offer is that you disconnect your TV capture device and uninstall any software that was installed with it. Carefully follow the instructions for uninstalling in its documentation. If the problem goes away when the TV capture device is not installed and returns when you install it again, that device, or its software, is the source of your problem. If the problem remains, the only workaround I know is to uninstall the conflicting device / software while you need to use the other applications that experience the problem you describe.
If you do not get the help you need here, you may be able to find additional help from the "Support" section of the web site for your TV capture device. Some of them even have a dedicated forum for users of their product.

  • HT1339 I'm not sure what I did, but my computer asked me what I want the ipod to do, and now it will only look for photos or videos on my device, and will not connect to itunes to download songs and podcasts.

    My computer asked to what I want the ipod to do. Now it only looks for videos and photos, which it does not find. I can't sync my podcasts or music to the device. Not sure how to fix it. It is an ipod touch.

    Connect your iPod to the computer (and iTunes) and look on the Device/Music pane, as below:
    You need to have Sync Music ticked, as shown.
    If you have Entire Music Library checked, then all your music should go back onto yuor iPod.
    If you have chosen Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres, you will see additional options for choosing which of those choices you want.
    If you make any changes here, you may need to click on the Sync, or Apply, button to make the changes happen.

  • Flash for Mac "Quicktime Video" format question

    I used Mac to create a video in Flash 8.0. When I export the
    clip, i used "Quicktime Video" format (not the "Quicktime" option).
    But when I play the file in Windows, I couldn't get it to open or
    convert to other formats such as .AVI. Is there a codec for
    "Quicktime Video" to work under windows XP? Please help.
    Thanks.

    Hi s2foster2, well I am certainly willing to try to help you, just don't know if I can be much help because I am not very
    familiar with Mac. I was able to help a couple of people but that was due to them being able to send me screenshots.
    I understand Flash Player but where programs, add ons, ActiveX Controls, even where the Flash files are located I don't know. I do know Mac has a Library:-)
    Some new information has come to light tonight however, by one of our most helpful people on the forum. This was about
    the 3rd party content, etc.
    I looked at your FF add ons and you have the SWF and it's correct. Do you know where the Flash files are and could you
    post back all of the Flash files with version numbers? That will tell me if Flash Player is installed with the correct files.
    We can have a go at this if you want. I can tell you what info I need as long as you know where to find it, because I don't.
    Let me know,
    thanks,

  • Quicktime video capture from VCR

    Hey Guys….
    I have this issue quicktime and I'm not sure what is going on.  So basically I'm capturing video / audio from a VCR into quicktime.  Sound works fine. The video is coming through, and the color is fine. but the video is distorting slightly.  I know it's not the VCR because when I plug into the TV directly, the picture is fine.
    I'm using one of those USB 2.0 Dongle's that capture video / audio through composite cables.  Quicktime is picking it up as I see the video on the screen, it's just distorted slightly.  Kinda like when you used to hit the "tracking" button on the VCR back in the day.
    I'm using OSX Lion on a 2007 Macbook Pro.
    Driving me nuts.  The capture dongle says it works both PAL and NTSC.  Any help would be appreciated.
    -Kaiserdood

    1). To answer your questions.  I am plugging the VCR into a receiver,  So it comes up on the TV, and through the Receiver A/V outputs I am using the dongle.  I took a picture of it.  And yes I am using the dongle's Composite inputs, and then the dongle plugs into the Mac via USB.  I thought it could be the receiver, but then I plugged the VCR directly into the dongle with the same results.
    Currently unable to view posted images. (Not sure if this is an issue with the files or the Apple server—i.e., the link appears good but nothing loads to browser page. Was hoping the image might better identify the problem as I am now wondering if some sort of double encoding in taking place with USB device encoding data, passing it to the QT 7 app which is the re-encoding the data.
    2).  It appears to have a MPEG 4 decoder, but I'm not sure on that.  I plugged a Nintendo Wii into it to test it, and the picture came up fine with the Wii.
    Still not clear on how the USB device works. Can you provide make and model info so I can look it up on the internet?
    3).  Quicktime version 7.6.6 pro
    Which preference setting are you using? What are the stats for the "captured" file contents.
    4).  The distortion is like when the "tracking" was off a little when watching VHS tapes back in the day.  The image sharks a little and sometimes there are blurry lines.  But you still can make out what is on the screen.  I've attached a picture to show.
    Unfamiliar with your use of the term "sharks" here. Are you referring to a general decline in picture quality as individual line progress across the display or the normal "comb" effect caused by the motion of objects in motion across the display between the two fields that compose a single video frame. (I.e., the distance an object moves between the capture of odd and even fields that compose the video frame.) The latter is quite common when capturing interlaced (VCR) content in an application like QT 7. (I.e., your TV and the Wii could be displaying the fields at a frame rate of 60 fps or more which better approximates the display of an older analog TV displaying interlaced fields as separate frames rather than QT 7's attempt to capture the two fields as a single interlaced frame.) If this is you problem, you could try deinterlacing or decombing the captured content but would likely degrade the quality in the process.
    Example of comb effect for hands in motion above

  • MB1,1 builtin iSight only works for 2 days after disassembly

    macbook 1,1 running 10.6.4
    Not showing up in profile.
    Researched extensively and tried everything (SMC+PRM reset, boot into safe mode, different user account, installed another isight camera, reconnected the usb cable on the back of the camera, installed AppleUSBVideo kext) Nothing has helped.
    However, when I take apart the MB, somehow it works after some disassembly (can't figure out exactly what makes it work). And works for about 2 days everytime before disappearing from the profile again.
    What failure could be time related? Oh, the only other thing that doesn't work is the optical drive. It won't mount any discs.

    3..Suggest any other format for audio and video capturing and saving..
    Thanks in advance..

    Thanks T.B.M..
    It worked..My webcam details are as follows:
    {color:#ff6600}Name = vfw:Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32):0
    Locator = vfw://0
    {color}
    It suports the following formats..
    {color:#ff6600}
    0. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 320x240, Length=230400, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=960, Flipped
    1. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 160x120, Length=57600, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=480, Flipped
    2. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 176x144, Length=76032, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=528, Flipped
    3. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 352x288, Length=304128, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=1056, Flipped
    4. javax.media.format.RGBFormat
    RGB, 640x480, Length=921600, 24-bit, Masks=3:2:1, PixelStride=3, LineStride=1920, Flipped
    {color}
    So made the following changes in my code..
    dl=CaptureDeviceManager.getDeviceList(new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.{color:#ff6600}RGB{color}));
    ml=((CaptureDeviceInfo)dl.firstElement()).getLocator();
    formats=new VideoFormat(VideoFormat.RGB);
    model = new ProcessorModel(ml,new Format[]{formats}, new FileTypeDescriptor(FileTypeDescriptor.{color:#ff6600}MSVIDEO{color}));
    p=Manager.createRealizedProcessor(model);
    source=p.getDataOutput();
    sink = Manager.createDataSink(source, new MediaLocator("file:///c:/Adiyae.{color:#ff6600}avi{color}"));
    p.addControllerListener(this);
    p.realize();
    Now the file is getting created with its size depending upon how long i capture..This is fine..But when i try to play the file using a media player it doesnt open.. when i tried opening it with JMStudio i get the following message..
    {color:#ff6600}Controller Error:
    Failed to realize:Failed to parse the input media..
    {color}Also can you tell me how to choose the FileTypeDescriptors for a particular video format.. The only FileTypeDescriptor that works with mine is the MSVIDEO..
    Thanks in advance..

  • Quicktime screencast capture is jumpy after rendering

    I have captured video of my screen for a screencast I'd like to edit, and when I have rendered it (either in high or medium quality), the video image is jumpy, colors pop in and out (mostly going red), and the footage is then unusable.  When I play the original imported video file, it looks good (although it still drops frames occasionally).
    Anyone have any hints about how to use Quicktime video capture of the entire screen?  Should I look into another screen capture program?
    Thank you!

    Did you transcode to ProRes HQ?
    If so, your system and or hard drive may not have enough juice to play it back in Quicktime without skipping.
    ProRes LT is what your clips should be transcoded to.
    If you have Unlimited RT activated for the sequence with dynamic settings, it may appear to play back correctly, but actually the quality and/or frame rate may be lowered slightly for realtime playback.

  • Question mark on quicktime videos and links

    Question mark on quicktime videos and links. Anyone have a clue about this one

    That video presentation is great for Mac OS, but not
    XP. Doesn`t happen on all sites, so is the problem my
    end or the other?
    What is exactly your problem?
    If you see a question when you visit a site where a QuickTime movie is embedded, there are possibilities. One is that there is a link made to the QuickTime, and QuickTime cannot access it. The second possibility which most people have is that you don't have an appropriate decoder for the QuickTime video. I only responded to the first case. And the second case is discussed several times a day.

  • Change file type from BINARY DOCUMENT to QUicKTIME VIDEO?

    Hi,
    I'm using Bridge CS4 to help catalogue my Quicktime videos (captured via FCP into a capture scratch file) and for the most part it works well. The problem is it seems to list in the "type" column many of the videos as BINARY DOCUMENTS instead of QUICKTIME VIDEO which means I can't play or scrub through them in the preview window. Instead they appear as a single static frame. They still open up into a playable video though when double clicked.
    Adding or removing the extension .mov seems to have no affect.
    Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to get them back into being recognized as QUICKTIME VIDEO?
    Thanks!

    Ooops, I just found the solution. Right-click on clip and select "Purge Cache For Selection", it changes all clips back to the right type.

  • External video capture card

    Hi
    I am looking for an 'external video capture card' that will record a screen and sound from a PC or preferable a mac at 30fps and 1080p that I can then edit with I have a budget up to £150 but can go further if need be. This is for video game trailer i am putting together which is why i need to be able to record the screen.
    If anyone has any suggestion please reply with links to where I can buy the device from.
    Thank You

    If you have a DVI port on the computer, yes it is.
    Hmmm...or maybe not. That's a really REALLY old device, and it might not work with the newer OS. Here I see it has issues with QT 7.5:
    http://lfhd.net/2008/09/04/matrox-mxo-quicktime-7-5-dont-mix/
    Here's my review of it:

    Here's a pretty thorough setup guide...

    But I fear that it's too old for the computer and OS.  Matrox stopped supporting it a while ago.

    this problem occures my capture device ( i expect MPEG ) how to
    solve this problem?
    Thanks,

    The Device Matrix is something we'll be updating in the
    future as we continue to test more and more equipement. Ideally, I
    would like for users such as yourselves to be able to add to it and
    tell us what has worked for you as well. If anyone has any ideas
    about what technology we should use to do this (e.g., this forum? a
    wiki?) please let me know.
    Regarding the devices not working - the main problem we see
    is that the system requirements are not being met. Here is what to
    check for:
    - are you running on Windows XP (only supported OS right
    now)?
    - do you have DirectX client runtime version 9c or higher
    installed?
    - do you have hardware acceleration enabled?
    - do you have 32bit graphics enabled?
    - do you have the latest direct show drivers from the
    card/device manufacturer?
    Thanks,

  • Best notebook for editing HD videos?

    I consider to buy a MacBookPro or MacBookAir. Which one is the best choice for editing HD videos?

    You don't want a MacBook Air, a 13" or a 2.0 Ghz 15" for professional work.
    You need the 2.2 Ghz 15" anti-glare, high res, MacBook Pro or better. (has the 1GB Radeon 6750M)
    The 17" is prefered because it's screen is 1920 x 1200, so 1080i (1920 x 1080 pixels) is WYSIWYG.
    You need the anti-glare because your going to be using it for professional work in many environments that you can't control the glare, you need to be able to see the entire screen.
    If your ordering online, get the 7,200 RPM drive. Else it's not that much difference from the 5,400 RPM store sold models. Get the 8GB of RAM installed right when you purchase and also AppleCare.
    Good luck.

  • Can isight be used for college lectures

    I know isight is excellent for chatting and video conferencing; but how does it par with a college lecture hall. I have always recorded my lectures and would love to opportunity to be able to record the lecture in both video and sound with the isight. What are the limitations in regard to distance the video and sound will record?

    No doubt it depends on the size of the hall; the sound will almost certainly be fine. Last year, I used an external iSight to record some of the classes I was teaching. The results from the back of the classroom were good: the image showed the front of the room and the whiteboard clearly; I could be heard clearly; student responses to questions were hard to hear, as their backs were to the camera. There may be a couple of problems with trying to use a built-in iSight to do this. First, it is my understanding that the built-in iSight has a fixed focus rather than the auto-focus of the stand alone. Second, the laptop screen would have to face the fron of the room.

    But in JMF's case, it does a decent job detecting most cameras, and it should work with any camera that is VFWs compliant... But it's certainly not going to blow you away with the range of cameras it will detect.
