Isight problems in Leopard photo booth

Has anybody had problems with the background replacement effect in the new photo booth. When I replace the background and enter the shot again, my face is broken up and missing pieces. I am not sure if there is a problem with my isight or if its a software bug.

Hello TrentonAdams
Repair time can ONLY be determined by the Apple Service Technician.
If your Mac only has a loose connection, the repair might take only minutes. If replacement parts must be ordered, it will take longer, but it is possible that you could continue to use your Mac while the parts are being obtained.
Discuss your concerns and needs honestly with your Apple Authorized Service Provider so you will experience minimum disruption for your particular circumstance.

  • ISight not working in Photo Booth with NEW MacBook Air?

I purchased an 11" MacBook Air and received it on May 29, 2014.  When I got it, I had no problems with the webcam.  Now, whenever I open Photo Booth, it doesn't load.  All it shows is a white loading icon on a black screen.  My webcam works in FaceTime, Skype, etc., but not Photo Booth.  I've tried it in test user, I've tried SCM and PRAM reset, I've re-installed Mavericks, and I've installed the combo update, and nothing has worked.  What could be the problem, and how can I resolve it?

  • ISight not showing when Photo Booth is open? Help :S?

Hey guys, when I open Photo Booth, my iSight doesn't even respond to it, and doesn't even turn on. There is no green light or anything. It works when I use iChat or any other application that uses the iSight but not photo booth. I have done all the trouble shooting and reseting but still nothing. In the system profiler it shows that my iSight is recognized and that it is there and working, but why not photo booth? It has worked before too.
    Help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks a lot in advance
    D2LMD

    You're welcome, D2LMD
I have tried all of the things you just listed and still no go...
Because your iSight works in every user account you try with every application (except Photo Booth), the problem is definitely in your software. Having reinstalled the application itself, the software problem must lie in some of the system or QuickTime ancillary files that Photo Booth uses.
To remedy this problem, I can offer three choices for your consideration:
    (1) Backup your important files and then reinstall all of your Mac software using the "reinstall" or "restore" disk that came with your Mac. After that is done, repair permissions and then use your Mac's Software Update... to be sure you are using the latest version of your Apple software. Finish with another permission repair after the updates are done, and then test to see if Photo Booth is working.
    (2) Ignore your non-working Photo Booth. Instead, use some other app to capture images:
    • If you do not need Photo Booth's "effects", some alternative apps that can
capture snapshots and movie/video clips are included in this list.
    • Apps that have with "effects" similar to those in Photo Booth include
Funny Photographer, Freak Show, and WebcamTweaker.
    (3) If nothing else works for you, follow Apple's ultimate suggestion from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 and contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • External iSight not recognized by Photo Booth, MBP, lid closed

When there is an external iSight and an external screen is attached to my MacBook Pro (where the lid is closed), Photo Booth does not seem to recognize it. I can use the camera with iChat, though.
Any ideas for a trick to make it work?

  • Leopard: Photo Booth User Effects Page (Page 4) Missing/Black

I dropped a movie on page 4 to use as a background and Photo Booth crashed. When I restarted the 4th page of effects is just a single black square. I cant add anything to it. If I log into another user account on the same machine the 4th page is correct. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Only just got round to installing Leopard, but I now have an answer for you:
Right-click on PhotoBooth in your Applications folder, and select Show Package Contents
Open the Contents folder, then open Resources
Find the EffectsOrdering.plist file, and open it in Text Edit (right click, Open With, select Other, and locate Text Edit -- you may need to change "Enable" to "All Applications")
Scroll down to the bottom of the file -- you should see a list of user backdrops; return the offending item to its default value (e.g. /user backdrop 1), save thew file, start PhotoBooth, and you should be back to normal.

  • Isight not working in photo booth after Leopard install

After installing Leopard, isight doesn't work when opening photobooth. I get a grey screen and nothing more. The green light isn't illimuniated. When clicking on the "take a photo" button, the countdown occurs and photobooth goes through the photo taking motions, even making the noises, but nothing shows up and I am unable to click the "take a photo" button again with closing and reopening photobooth. When in imovie, isight works fine. isight also shows up in my system profiler. Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Annoying Photo booth/ iSight problems

I often record videos using photo booth. and today....
The videos cut out before i pressed stop. They lasted about 37 seconds and then just cut out randomly, when i was recording however, it say it was still recording and ive set it so my screen doesnt dim withing 30 minutes whenever im recording.
And then when it finaly fracking worked, the ONE THAT ACTUALLY WORKED had no sound!!!! the other ones had sound, but stupid mic just decided not to work?
The only programs running was photo booth and the always running finder.

    Some ideas you can consider:
    (1) Your system info shows Mac OS X (10.5.6)
If this is correct, use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions. Then download and install the latest version of Leopard:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866
Immediately after the restart that completes the update, repair permissions again. Then test to see if the problem is resolved.
    (2) Verify that you are not clicking anywhere outside the Photo Booth window while recording. When running Photo Booth in Mac OS X 10.5.x on my G5 Mac, Photo Booth immediately stops recording unless its recording is the currently active window.
(For other readers, Snow&Leopard Photo Booth does NOT stop even if its window is not the active one.)
    (3) Test recording with iMovie and QuickTime Pro if you have it to see if they also quit early.
If apps other than Photo Booth record properly but you do not want to use one of those that work properly, it is possible that a corrupted Photo Booth Preferences file is causing your problem. Quit Photo Booth (and all other applications) and throw away the Photo Booth Preferences file (com.apple.photobooth.plist) from your Home / Library / Preferences folder. A new preferences folder will be generated when you restart Photo Booth to test whether it works now.
    (4) If resetting preferences did not help but you still want to use Photo Booth, reinstalling the Photo Booth app might help.
    (5) You might also see if any of the suggestions here help you:

  • Isight not supported after installing os x 10.4.9, photo booth not working

    Dear All,
I have been facing this problem lately with Photo Booth which gives an error saying: "photo booth cannot be opened, because no camera installed or camera used by other application."
My isight camera is surely not used by any another application. I have tried restart my Mac Book several times but everytime I get the same message. Also, it has disappeared from my system profiler.
I'm sure there are people who can help me resolve the issue. I am new to Apple product.

  • Photo Booth Crashes in Snow Leopard

I tested Photo Booth out for the first time today after my SL upgrade... As I cycle through the effects pages (via the right and left arrows), the program crashes every time (opening up the "Problem Report for Photo Booth" window). I purchased additional Photo Booth effects using Alter Ego... Are these the problem or might it be the SL upgrade? I never had an issue using any/all of my effects in Photo Booth before the SL upgrade. Any help is appreciated.

I've had a very similar problem. I'm also using Snow Leopard. When I try to employ any special effects in Photo Booth, I can click on the "shutter" button, it will snap the picture, but then it freezes for a minute, and then closes the program and come up with a dialogue box that says "Photo Booth Quit Unexpectedly". It doesn't save the picture either. I tried some of the fixes mentioned, like deleting the preferences file and repairing permissions, and also creating a admin test account to see if the problem duplicates itself there too (which it does) - so it looks like something is in the OS, and not related just to my particular user account. I also trid "AppDelete" to get rid of the program altogether and then reinstalled Snow Leopard - to no avail. Perhaps this will be fixed with another subsequent software update...hopefully.

  • Photo Booth ignores external iSight

    Hello people
Ever since my upgrade to Leopard, Photo Booth no longer uses my external firewire iSight camera.
Previously, Photo Booth would use the external iSight camera, when the built-in was unavailable because the notebook lid was closed. Now it just says the camera is off.
Both iMovie and iChat AV will happily use the external iSight camera. If I try to use a Video Input in a Quartz Composition, the external iSight is ignored just as it is in Photo Booth.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Best regards,
    Anders Borum

    two things to try:
    (1) With Photo Booth (v2) running, unplug your external iSight, wait about 5 seconds, and reconnect.
    (2) If you still do not see the camera view, turn external iSight off (rotate the front of the lens barrel), wait about 5 seconds, and turn iSight on again.
Although I am not using an iNtel Mac, the first one got me a dark image, and the second one got my external iSight working correctly.

  • IMAC G5(ISight) Photo Booth wont open!

Isight is currently being used by another application"...Oh no it isn't!!! There is nothing else running?
I seem to get this error when opening photobooth and thus can't use it. This happened after fixing permissions and installing adium. I'm sure i'm not the only person to get this problem. Help!!! i love my shiny new g5....P.S For everyone complaning about the noise on these machines, mine is quiet as a mouse.

If you have ALL the suggestions already offered without result, I have three other ideas.
First idea, consider the suggestion from the Troubleshooting section of your iMac's User's Guide (Pages 55-58) such as using the Apple Hardware Test CD, reinstalling software, restoring your iMac's OS, etc. (0) If you decide to reinstall or restore software applications, I suggest you do maintenance before and after the restore as explained in How I Update My Mac OS X.
    (1) If you decide to reinstall your entire OS, consider the suggestions in Reinstalling Mac OS X (Rarely Necessary).
    (2) If you have not already done so, you might even consider an erase and clean install for a known good starting point as explained in Macintosh System Stability.
Second idea, since your problem may be peculiar to an iMac G5 (iSight) iSight or to the Photo Booth app that is bundled with it, try the iMac Discussions area or the "Chat with a support agent" option avialable there.
Third idea, talk with your retailer or return your iMac and him ask to make your new Mac work for you or exchange it for one that does.

  • Isight is not working on ichat and skype, however will work on photo booth and imovie.

My isight will not work on ichat or skype, saying that there is no camera connected. isight will work in photo booth and imovie. It shows up in the system profiler. Have tried resetting SMC. Help?

    (1) Here is how I would proceed to isolate the underlying problem that requires corrective action.
    • Shut down everything.
    • Then restart modem and allow its self-test to complete.
    • Then restart router or wireless access point (if you have them) and allow self-test to complete.
    • Then restart Mac.
    • Use  > Software Update... (Update your Apple software if not current.)
    • Then test Photo Booth or iMovie with no other apps else running to ensure they still work.
    • Then quit your test app and try iChat with no other apps else running.
    • If iChat works, quit iChat and try Skype with no other apps else running.
    (2) If iChat works but Skype does not,
    • Verify that you are using the latest version of Skype that is compatible with your OS X (10.5.8) Mac.
    • Update if necessary.
    • Then test Skype again with no other apps else running.
    • If Skype problems remain but your camera works with everything else, Skype's comprehensive support system should best be able to help you use their product with your system.
    Start here:  https://support.skype.com/
Or, click this link for help specifically related to Mac video calls.
You can also search or post for help with your problem in Skype's dedicated Skype Discussions for Mac.  The Skype users who post there may have already solved the same problem.
If nothing else works, you can even sign in and ask for email help directly from Skype's Technical Support people.
    (3) If you still have trouble with more than one app, you may need to use Disk Utility to:
    • repair permissions,
    • repair your disk,
    • or even reinstall Mac OS.
If you reinstall OS X 10.5, use the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update to return to the latest version in one update step.

  • Photo Booth issue with isight

    Hi:
I'm running OS X (10.4.11) on my personal MacBook Pro. When I open Photo Booth, I just get a black screen but I'm not able to take any pictures/videos. The iSight in not turning on (all options are grayed out). However the cam does work when I use iChat or Skype video chat. That eliminates the hardware factor.
I have followed some of the suggestions here, such as creating a new user, deleting some of the .plist files, repair permissions, etc.; but still no success.
Are there any other suggestions to fix this problem and get Photo Booth back to work??
    Thanks
    Marcos

    Hello Eric,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It is not likely that anyone has tested Photo Booth on an older Mac equiped with an iSight, but as soon as someone does, I am sure you will read about it here.
As explained in the "The Apple PhotoBooth, how do you get it?" thread, Photo Booth is only available bundled with
    b NEW
    iMacs.

  • No camera with photo booth

iSight Camera works on ichat and imovie but not with photo booth. It also won't work with replacement software for photo booth.
    Any ideas?

    Hello, BuffaloSky
Quit all running applications. Then, if you have not done so recently, and especially after any recent software updates or installs, repair permissions. Now try Photo Booth again.
If you still have the problem after repairing permissions, try all suggestions relevant to your system from How to Troubleshoot iSight.
If Photo Booth still does not work in any user account, it is possible that a corrupted Photo Booth Preferences file is causing your problem. Quit Photo Booth (and all other applications) and throw away the Photo Booth Preferences file (com.apple.photobooth.plist) from your Home / Library / Preferences folder. A new preferences (.plist) file will be generated when you restart Photo Booth to test whether it works now.

  • Photo booth not launching

all the sudden this app won't open at all. after I double click on it, it immediately closes itself out. I don't get any kind of error message. I can verifty that my built-in isight cam does work so I don't believe the problem is the webcam.

Try these suggestions in this order (easiest is first):
    (0) Restart the Mac and check whether the problem goes away.
    (1) If you are trying from the Dock, check whether it works properly when you double-click the Photo Booth iCon in your Mac's Finder > Go > Applications folder.
If that solves your problem, remove the Photo Booth iCon from your Dock because it is somehow damaged.  Then drag Photo Booth from your Mac's Finder > Go > Applications folder to recreate a new Dock iCon that will work.
    (2) Use Lion Recovery to repair your startup disk.  Then test again.
    (3) Apply the latest Lion Combo Updater using the following method:
    • Use your Mac's normal Disk Utility (NOT the Lion Revocery one)
       to repair permissions (not "Disk").
    • Then download and apply the latest Combo Update.
For Lion, the most recent is: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1459
    • Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart
       that completes the Combo update.
    • Test Photo Booth again.
