Isight settings or hp camera

Have started using Skype. Talking with family in Australia who have a HP Laptop. Their image on our side is not the best quality. They say we are crystal clear.
Does the mac use a better quality camera? Is there any setting we can use to make it better? 1344X840 res on our mac right now
Thanks.

Ok, so there is no way to control the quality or settings of the isight camera. Since none of the apps show any quality control, just what device to use.
Ok so the quality of iSight is built into the camera. You cannot change that unless you change cameras. Other cameras can work as explained here:
  http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2018211
Many factors (including lighting, processor workload, and network performance for connected apps) can effect the quality of the view you get from your iSight. For best results, keep plenty of free space on your hard disk, use only one video app at a time, keep your software updated to the latest compatible versions, and, as explained in the following links, use good light on the subject of your video:
  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3097
  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2264
I am referring to the something like the audio settings in system preferences, just for video.
Audio System preferences let you change _which microphone and speakers_ you use and their volume.
Instead of using System Preferences for choosing which iSight (or other camera) you use, you choose the camera individually for each app that allows a choice of cameras.
There is no volume setting associated with the iSight or other webcam. Perhaps you think that _brightness of the image_ is analogous to the volume of the mic or speakers? You control brightness by adjusting the lighting in the room, or at least on the subject of the video.
By adding iGlasses2, you can manually control some of the image parameters for some applications that automatically apply optimal values:
  http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/
Although nothing iGlasses does actually controls the "quality" of the image, Glasses can adjust certain settings. You can try before you buy with their free trial. Use their uninstaller if you decide not to pay or encounter unexpected results.
Thanks,
You're welcome.

  • Can I use iSight as a still camera?

    Hello!
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 17". I wish to know whether I can use iSight as a still camera or not.
Actually, when I was setting my MacBook up and came to the setting where it asked for my display picture, I hastily clicked a very unusable picture of myself and proceeded with the rest of the settings. I thought I would change it later. I then installed Microsoft MSN Messenger and it displayed that stupid picture as the display picture. I changed my User Account picture after that to a better one but MSN Messenger still is displaying the same picture as the difault picture. How do I change it? I don't even know where Mac stores the User Account picture. So, I wanted to click another picture of myself with the iSight camera and store it in the pictures folder so that I could change MSN Messenger's display picture. Is it possible? If not, how else can I change MSN Messenger's picture to the User Account picture on my OS?
Sorry for the huge rant and please do reply ASAP!
    Thank you!

    Hi Cool 'n' Casual,
    Sort of.
You have PhotoBooth on there which will give a warning before it click the pic and flashes the screen to improve lighting when it does.
It can be a "normal" pic rather than any of the specials.
iChat itself can take a snapshot. It can be done from the Buddy List and clicking on your current Buddy pic and following the buttons. Or from the menu bar in Video.
Photobooth stores the pics and can link directly to iChat to post a pic.
Your Recent Pictures are stored in Users/(your account)/Library/Images/Recent iChat Pictures.
It is likely that you will have to navigate to this folder if you want MSN to display the same pic.
By default iChat will display the Pic you selected for your Mac user account when you set the computer up as seen in the Address Book for your Me card. It is probably this one that MSN is displaying.

  • I have the new macbook pro from late 2011. when i try plugging my cannon gl2 into the mac via firewire 800 it does not show up in iMovie as an option to import from. i even have gone into my settings on the camera and changed it to vcr.

I have the new MacBook Pro from late 2011. "the one before the new ritina display" i have a cannon gl2 video camera which is mini dv. when i plug it into my mac via firwire 800 it does not show up in the iMovie. i have set the settings on the camera to vcr mode and changed it to av->dv out. when i click on the import from camera on imovie it doesnt even show my camera in it. it just gives me the option to import video from my facetime camera. the camera is turned on the wires are connected i know for fact that its a firewire and not a usb. i know what they each look like. i bought the firewire cable and it was marked down cause it was an opened and used item. would it be possible that it could be deffected and if that is not the reason what other options do i have?

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • Best settings for this cam?

We have a Sony HDV model number HVR-A1J
on it it has a HDV1080i/mini DV
we will be using final cut 6 and need to know what settings should we use, so that when we put our work onto DVD, that it will have the best possible quality?

Start by figuring out what DVD you're producing? do you have access to blu-ray? If you are going to standard DVD, you begin by determining how long your project is going to be so you know what MPEG2 settings you will use. Then you can start to figure out how you're going to compromise and at which steps. Do you need 5.1 audio? Are you using lots of graphics and effects?
Settings for the camera while shooting or settings for FCP?
You can search the forum for that camera model and you will find many helpful threads. Mostly you will learn what NOT to do.

  • Can I use iSight as a remote camera?

I'd like to use iSight as a remote camera and record the video to a miniDV camera in a safer location.
I don't have a nearby Applestore to go check this idea out, does anyone know if it's possible? I have a powered FW hub, so I can power the iSight w/o a computer (I think)

You're welcome, Mark. Have you driven an iSight from a Dazzle before, or do you know someone who has?No.
Although I have no technical data to quote that proves this, based on reports posted in Apple Discussions, I believe that iSight is less protected against shock, vibration, dust, and humidity than my "walking-around" cameras.
I use a camcorder or the movie setting on my digital still camera for recording movie clips when I will be moving the camera. I do not mean to imply that iSight is inordinately delicate, merely that it is not as shock resistant as cameras designed to be carried. I would be surprised if iSight would withstand the rigors of aerobatics.
Based on what you want to do, iSight's seemingly modest shock tolerance, and the price of GL2s, I would look for a device more like the sports camcorder mentioned earlier.
Perhaps others can offer some first-hand experience that will be relevant to what you want to do.

  • ISight settings?

Ok, I received my new MacBookPro yesterday and am stoked to have a built in iSight now, instead of using my old Logitech Cam with eCamm s/w but...
Where the heck can I change the video settings on this built-in camera? It seems to use a terrrible automatic setting for lighting, and I can't find any spot where I can amend gamma or contrast settings.
Thought it might be hidden in System Prefs... but not there either.
PLEASE tell me I can change my settings, without the need to spend MORE money on third party apps????

I am not impressed with Apple on this one... Very sad, that such a great piece of technology has NO support for even minimal gamma correction....
and not even a driver that can be installed? Maybe Leopard will bring the solution???
So back to eCamm it is... geeezzz... these guys are making good money doing this

  • How can I fix my iSight settings when it works on one account and not the other?

iSight continually crashes third party applications. I've checked another account on my MBP, and iSight works on different accounts. What settings can I troubleshoot on the account?
    Thank you!

Although the documentation says you can copy Time Machine backups in the Finder, it's very slow and sometimes doesn't work at all.
Launch Disk Utility, open the built-in help, and search for the term "Duplicate." Follow the instructions. All existing data on the destination volume will be erased. That shouldn't be a problem, because you don't want to mix backup and non-backup data on the same drive anyway. Turn Time Machine OFF in its preference pane while copying the volume.

  • Full Screen display of iSight or other video camera input

Ok - I've looked at iMovie and iChat and PhotoBooth - all the built in software to solve this fairly basic but maybe slightly odd need. I want to dedicate my display to show the camera video input. How can I do that full screen - not just in a window?
The need is that for video conferencing with WebEx - the video feed is low quality and it would be useful at times for the presenter to share higher resolution video. I can almost do this with iChat - I aim the camera at the source, and then use the iChat preview and then use "share desktop" with WebEx. Voila - relatively high resolution video. Yes, it's one way - but it's still really useful for some situations.
But the preview won't go full screen. Is there a MacBook app that will show the video input full screen?

The iSight is either 640x480 (older MBPs) or 1280x1024 (newer MBPs). Displaying it 'full screen' especially in an older MBP (which is what you have if you're posting in the correct forum) would result in a horribly pixelated image, not 'high resolution'. The apps that show the iSight feed are showing it at its native resolution, and that's a limitation of the hardware. If you need higher resolution, you can attach a higher resolution video camera (for example, my Panasonic DV camcorder connects via FireWire and can be used as a webcam).

  • Huge problems using external iSight or DV video camera on my MPB DCD...

Ok, so I am developing some applications that make use of a video camera for motion tracking, and I have run into a huge problem when trying to use any external video camera. I have both an external iSight in great working order (I have tested it on my tower, which is also brand new, but on 10.4 for reasons of other applications not yet supported on 10.5.1) and also a Sony DCR-TRV520 NTSC Digital Handycam. (Once again, works perfectly when plugged in to the tower.) But if I plug either of them in to my MBP, no programs recognize their existence at all, be it iChat, iMovie, or my application. Nothing shows up in system profiler either. I try reboots, I get nothing... the internal iSight constantly takes over or is my only choice in applications.
And before you even ask, yes, my firewire port works, as I can plug my external firewire solo audio interface into it no problems, and no, I don't have any other firewire devices plugged in when trying to get the computer to recognize they are there.
Quick response would be awesome, as I am on a timeline to finish the program development and it is very important that I get this to work, preferably the Sony.

I just read this in their Forum mate ...

  • Where is the "Settings" Option in Camera Raw 4.1 in Elements 5?

I'm using Elements 5 on Windows XP Home Version. Where is the "Settings" Option on RAW 4.1? On RAW 3.5 it was underneath the Histogram. I need to copy settings from a previous RAW file, so I can combine two images into one. The Help Menu on Elements 5 tells me how to do this, but the "Settings" Option it mentions isn't displayed on the screen.
I'd be grateful for any advice.
    Thanks

Thomas Knoll should know everything, since he is the creator of Photoshop and Camera Raw.
Saturation affects all colors in your image.
Vibrance affects the saturation of less saturated colors only.
Recover helps bring out detail in the highlight areas of your image.
Clarity is sort of a sharpness control. To see its effect on your images you must be viewing your image at at least 100% magnification.

  • Quick capture with iSight or any DV-cam

Hello. I like making stopmotion movies (claymation, Wallace and Gromit, Nightmare Before X-mas) and I was wondering if there is some way to take a quick-shot with the iSight camera.
I know that there are alot of applicatios such as iStopmotion out there that allows me to do this, but all I really need is a way to take just a picture, it can be saved as a jpeg or a png or anything, doesnt matter. And to pay 50-100$ for an application that just takes pictures seems quite alot. I might as well use a normal camera and take real pictures. But the thing is that its hard to make it stand still then, so I really want to be able to control the camera from my computer. I can do this with Photobooth but that kind of ***** since you have to wait for 3 seconds and then a flash goes off.
I mean, with QuickTime Pro (or iMovie) you can easily shoot a video with a plugged in DV-cam, so why should it be so hard to take just a picture?
Do any of you know of some way to just take a quick pictures with the iSight? It would also be great if it worked with a Quicktime compatible DV-camera too. And preferebly it should be free.
Thanks in advance. I don't really know if this is the right place to post this is though...

  • Why does the "Import from Camera" selection open up iSight instead of my camera?

My Sony Cyber-Shot is connected my iMac through the included USB. About an hour - two hours ago I clicked on the Import from Camera option and it showed my videos recorded using my camera, but now when I click the option it opens up the built in iSight instead. Can someone please help me? How can I get it to open up my camera video files instead of iSight?

I don't have the Sony, but on my Canon you have to have the camera in "play" mode and when you plug in the usb the camera asks to what do you want the camera to connect. You choose "computer." In other words, it makes a difference in what order you connect things.

  • ISight (iChat and PhotoBooth) cam is outputing CRAZY colors!

    Hi Everyone!
I'm having an annoying issue. My HD recently crashed, and I just got it back from Apple. Fortunately I had TM running, so I got almost everything back. However.. after getting the machine up, and updating back to x.5.2.. my iSight is outputing CRAZY colors. Mainly yellow, grainy, nightvisiony looking image. It occurs in all video apps, I have tried resetting my SMC (although I have no way of knowing if I did or not), and jillions of restarts. I had this happen once before, and the SMC fix did it. Does anyone know a way to get the camera back to usable? Any thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Hello Steve
... complete list of files (cache, library etc) that Isight draws upon.
I do not think that iSight uses ANY caches. I suppose the apps that operate your iSight might.
The best iSight technical info source I know is this search of the Apple Developer Connection. You may be able to get more specific help by becoming an ADC Member if you are not one already.
As an alternative to researching the ADC info, I offer another thought you may have already considered or tried. If I understand correctly what you have been doing at this thread in the Time Machine Forum, you believe that your iSight problem might be correctable by resetting preferences or clearing caches, but you have decided not to attempt resolution by deleting ALL system preferences and caches. If you think it might be beneficial, you could try an application like Yasu that can give you some control over which preferences and caches you can reset without using the terminal or deleting items generated and managed by OS X.
Finally, Steve, please allow me a word of caution for other readers. You seem to be an experienced OS X user who is more comfortable working at lower levels of OS X than many of us. For benefit of other readers who may be less knowledgeable, it is generally a bad idea to move, modify, rename, or delete any item outside your User > Documents folder unless you know what you are doing. While doing so will not harm your computer, if you damage your data or system files, you will need to restore them, which can be time consuming. Until you have enough knowledge to safely work with them manually, I suggest that you let OS X and your applications manage the files for you as they were designed to do.
    Cheers,

  • 4G LTE iPhone 5: Carrier Settings Update never came

    Hello,
Just to say, before I start: This question is related to Switzerland's Swisscom's 4G LTE network and iPhone 5.
I have updated to iOS 6.1 (for Swisscom 4G LTE compatibility, it's now compatible), but didn't get the carrier settings update, and when I reset the iPhone (including erase all content), I got the Carrier Setting Update and it enabled 4G LTE, but I have progressed in lots of apps and games (mainly apps), and it will be very difficult to do a full restore and recover all my progress etcetera. How can I get the Carrier Settings Update? I went to Swisscom, and they said to erase the iPhone, but again this would be a big inconvenience and I am trying to avoid it.
Sorry about any problems: I'm not very tech savvy with iOS devices, and this is my first post here so I may have put in the wrong section.
    Thanks a lot in advance

Well, I've connected my phone to iTunes, and still nothing has come. My friend's iPhone 5 did have enable LTE, when he updated and I believe he got it over the air, and didn't connect it to iTunes. iTunes is still syncing...
Thank you very much for helping
It's suddenly appeared. My three friend's iPhone 5's carrier settings update came straight away after updating this morning (we updated together), and mine has come about 7 and a half hours later... but still, it's come. I don't think this was related to iTunes (by the looks of it).
Thanks a lot for helping me, and for the quick replies.
