ISight & Skype - no voice

When I use Skype with my iSight (both audio and video) the following problem occurs. The pesron in the other end of the line can see ne but not hear me. I can still hear what the person in the other end is saying but somehow my microphone seems to stop working?
Is this an iSight, Apple or Skype problem?

Jesse,
When in SKYPE, have you insured the audio input is "iSight"? Click SKYPE - Preferences - Audio. Depending what you have, there may be several choices in a pull down menu.

    I saw it here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pu … _crackling
In my config there already is following:
    ### Automatically load driver modules depending on the hardware available
    .ifexists module-udev-detect.so
    load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0
    .else
    ### Use the static hardware detection module (for systems that lack udev support)
    load-module module-detect
    .endif
And i have this module. I tried to replace it to just load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0, but it didn't help.

  • Ichat or skype for voice lesson

My wife is a singing teacher in NYC and has a student in LA. She would like to be able to do a singing lesson with her student in LA. She has a new 2.4 GHz macbook and her student also has a Mac.
    1. Which would be better ichat or skype especially the audio and video quality?
    2. We also have a external iSight camera that we use on our G5 imac. Can we use this on the Macbook and override the internal isight? I am assuming the external one is better. Should she invest in a higher end web camera and if so any recommendations?
    3. As she needs to be able to clearly listen to her student, should she use a headset or external speakers?
This is all new to us and we are hoping others have investigated this and can offer some advice.
    Jerry

    Hi
    1. Mac to Mac use iChat, you will find with Skype you might get feedback.
    2. You can but i would use the internal cam as the pic is a bit better(depending on bandwith)
    3. Try and see what she prefers.
If you would like to test you can connect to me defcom1 .mac account.

  • Cannot add people to Skype Group Voice call

Everyday I usually go in a skype call with my friends, I use the PC version of skype and I always host the call as my friends use the Xbox One version. The xbox party system is horrible so we use skype instead. But for some reason, today, I can no longer host a call with more than 1 person. I cant call groups either. This is quite a pain. I have tried un installing and re installing, resetting my pc and I also created a new account and it still wouldnt let me call more than 1 person. I also tried calling two PC users of skype, I was still, only able to call one. Any help is much appreicated. Thanks!

I have a similar issue. I cannot do group voice call with more than 2 people on Skype for MAc. It was working fine before upgrade to the latest version Version 7.6 (409).  I have never had this kind of issue with Skype before.  Looks like MS is encouraging us to go to Google Hangout. I will eventually move if i cannot do my daily calls on SkypeI also have this problem.  It is very frustrating as I am paying for a Skype account and now cannot host any group calls even though I used to do this all the time.  I sought to resolve the problem by contacting Skype using live chat but the person did not know how to resolve the issue.  I am using Version 7.4.  Can anyone help?

  • Skype keeps turning on voice messages feature

I have a Skype Number and I've purposely turned off Skype's Voice Messages feature.
However, every few months it turns on by itself. I have to log into the website and turn it off. But this shouldn't be happening — it should stay off!
Is there someone who works at Skype that I can contact so that this problem can be fixed?

I don't know if you can turn it off, yet. That may be coming with a software update at some point. If you're okay with using the passcode feature, You can turn off the Voice Dial feature:
    Settings->General->Passcode Lock->Voice Dial.
This may be a temporary fix until we'll have the option to turn it off completely as a setting.

  • ISight - connects with windows users no problem?

I'd like to buy this webcam, but I heard it has problems connecting with windows users. Will I be able to talk to people on it through AIM? Thats what I'd like, if not, I probably wont get it. Anyone have any personal experience or have any answers or helpful tips - I'd appreciate anything - thanks.

It is not the iSight itself that gives you the impression that connecting with Micros~1 Windows users causes problems ... it is the availability of (cross platform) applications that makes connecting a bit more cumbersome.
I have PowerMac G5 with iSight and I connect with my Micros~1 Windows platform family equiped with and without USB webcam.
The challenge will be to find messaging / VoiP applications with bearable audio quality and reasonable video performance.
I started with Skype for Voice and Yahoo! messenger for bad video ( 1-2 fps and video size 320 x 240).
Skype has a video plugin (only for Windows)
Yahoo! Messenger does not have voice yet (2.5.3)
MSN is badmouthing because of the "M"
I have used iChat with another Apple believer ... and the quality of Voice and Video is unparralled.
The best two alternatives I found are:
    a) AIM 5.9
    b) Trillian (www.trillian.cc)
Both use a free AIM screen name.
AIM works fine, see also EZJim pages.
TrillianPro 3.1 reuses AIM screen names ... and ... it has both good audio and zoom-to-full-screen-video size with fps rates filling your bandwidth.
The only negative on Trillian so far, the "handshake" for connecting two people takes some time.
TrillianBase is free but has no Video capabilities. The Pro version is 25$.

  • ISight with Yahoo IM?

My son has a PC w. a Logitech Camera and they are on Yahoo Instant Messaging. Can I have AV communication with iSight and iChat with them? If yes, how?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, rlob
Yahoo! Messenger (YM), whether for PC or for Mac, cannot connect to iChat.
Moreover, YM for Mac (YMM) video conferencing has no audio whatsoever. If you install YM for Mac on your Mac, you can exchange text IMs. If all is working properly, you can exchange video with your PC son, too, but you will get no audio whatsoever. That is just how the YMM program is written. If you find information to the contrary on the YM website, please post the link back.
In order for you to get full AV conferencing between your Mac and your son's PC, at least one of you will need to use different software. The easiest way these days may be Skype, but each of you would need to have or add your respective version of the software to your computers.
If you get complaints about Skype's voice quality, note that Skype performs its own noise reduction. This Skype feature seems to be confused by iSight's internal noise reduction. I find that using an external mic gives clearer speech results with Skype. (I use a Logitech USB desk mic like this one for Skype.) You can set your Skype preferences to use iSight's video and a desk mic's audio.
If you want to try to AV conference from your Mac's iChat AV to a PC, your son will need to have or install one of the PC apps that can cross-platform connect to iChat AV. My page on the subject is here. Ralph Johns has written a FAQ on the Subject. Some beginners have recommended this page as a good place to start.

  • Skype not work on new (3 week old) mac mini but does work on new macbookpro

I have language lessons online via skype - just voice not video. I have a new mac mini (2.26ghz, 160gb, 2gb). When I have my lessons I have terrible problems with audio quality. All "crackly" so much so that my teacher can hardly hear me. However, if i use my new macbookpro with same ethernet connection and same headphones everything works perfectly??? I have replicated this problem on the same mac mini and same macbook pro at a friends house who is also on the same cable company. Can anyone explain why skype is perfect on the mbpro but useless on the mini??? Or better still offer a solution? Many thanks for any help. Richard

weird...it works perfectly if i reboot mac mini into windows (bootcamp). no problems with buzzing at all! repeatable experiment. it doesn't sound possible that its a software issue with snow leopard???? any software/sound experts who could comment?
so, my headset on snow leopard skype sounds awful at the other end due to buzzing sound. but if i reboot into windows this vanishes??? and does not return. tested without stretching any cables etc. also used skype test function to listen to the buzzing sound myself. its there with os x but not with windows 7??? help please!!

  • Looking for a voice-changer app?

Is there an app that helps me change my voice while on skype or voice chat, imitate other person's voice etc.? I came across this in some blog post two months ago, but could not download it then. Can't remember the name? Help please

received this repsposne from the folks at Imesart:
    Dear Andrew,
No app on iOS will let you add files to the music library. The only way to do this is to use iTunes on a computer.

  • Internet not working while on skype call

    Greetings everyone
I'm having this..specific problem for the past few days during Skype calls. Whenever I'm in a call with my friends, my intertnet completely stops working. I'm unable to browse it at all, as well as send and receive messages on Skype. Voice communication works fine, however, nothing else works properly. Or at all.
I've tried to change my DNS to the google public dns, and that didn't help at all. I also tried to manually set up my connection, rather than automatic - didn't help either. I messed around with some Skype options as well and nope, didn't help either. I've also tried flushing the dns and all of that it didn't help.
This ONLY happens when I'm in a Skype call - as soon as I turn off the skype call everything works as it's supposed to work..however, once I get back into the call it stops working, which is a big problem for me.
I also tried to disable my AVG AV and it didn't help either..Skype is also added in firewall as well.
I honestly have no idea what to do anymore regarding this.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If your celluar carrier is using CDMA cellular technology (for example: Sprint, Verizon), then on 3G networks CDMA cannot "Walk and Chew Gum" at the same time.  I am not sure at LTE for CDMA carriers.  If you your cellular carrier is using GSM (AT&T, T-Moble, and most, but not all, carriers outside the US), then you should be able to use data and voice at the same time.

  • My Skype used to have surround sound and now it do...

I was talking to my mate on skype when suddenly my computer switched off. When i turned it back on and called my mate on skype his voice wasn’t surround sound anymore.
I checked everything. Everything else is surround sound but only his voice isn’t, He has restarted skype and still nothing has changed. I’ve called the sound testing service and her voice is even surround sound. I’m really annoyed at this.
    My computer sucks XD

  • Can I leverage Skype Lync O365 integration for full phone system?

Have O365 enterprise and need new phone system for startup.  Can I leverage Skype for voice account and leverage Lync/ exchange features together?
we are want no on premise environment.
can I do this without Lync server?  if not,  does Lync server exists as a subscription?
    Layman's terms please.
    thanks in advance!

The equipment needed is at minimum a Lync server (if you use a SIP trunk from an ITSP) otherwise you will also need a voice gateway. The license comes as part of an E4 subscription.

Without knowing the requirements and scoping it out properly, based on you saying that it's a home office environment I'd be more inclined to use the ITSP.
If you scroll to the very bottom of the page I've linked to - you will see this: "Lync enterprise voice capabilities require a customer
to purchase and deploy Lync Server, either on-premises or in a hosted data-center, to enhance or replace traditional PBX systems"

  • Voice Messaging: Cannot enable v8.1 per "accepted ...

    Community:
I have (2-1/2) issues working in unision, and I need some divine intervention from the Microsoft Godz.
Issue 1) Skype "New desktop" windows 8.1 version. I can "enable" Voicemail, but have no ability to configure ring time, greeting, etc. In other words the "accepted Solution" screenshot of a "laptop" with "enable" button then all the configurable options do not exist for me. Only SMS messages.
WORKAROUND: Installed the "Windows Desktop" Vesion from the Skype website - I could then use the "Tools" feature and set it all up. AKa looked like the Win7 version.
Issue 2) The 1st call i make - works FINE. The 2nd time my Lumina 925 rings and voicemail no longer works.
Sooooo how do i get voice mail to work across the board? how do I get vm options to show up in the 8.1 web interface?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you do a search around this forum and around the web you'll find lots of complaints about Skype's voice mail -- especially, on Windows Phone. For reasons that neither Skype nor Microsoft have made public, voice mail does not work in Skype on Windows Phone (there is no voice mail access functionality) and, to make matters worse, if you are signed in to Skype on a Windows Phone device it seems to disable Skype voice mail functionality completely (i.e., unanswered Skype calls will not roll over to voice mail on any device, including PC, iOS or Android). It's very frustrating (especially, the lack of any explanation from Skype/Microsoft) and essentially makes Skype unusable on a Windows Phone device if voice mail functionality is important to you.
At this point it seems the only solution to the issue, if you want Skype voice mail to work, is to make sure you are signed out of Skype on your Windows Phone device. That way, Skype voice mail will function properly on PC, iOS, and Android devices: unanswered Skype calls will roll over to voice mail, you'll get an email notification of a voice mail (if you have enabled that option), you'll get an in-app notification of voice mail, and you'll be able to play the voice mail in-app.  This assumes that they do not cripple the Skype client on these other OSs like it is on Windows Phone OS. They did try to remove voice mail from the iOS client back in June (describing it as an "improved" client), but there were so many complaints that they added it back immediately.
It would be nice if Skype/Microsoft was more transparent about why they are doing this and where they are going with Skype. Right now, with the crippled Windows Phone client and their constant attempts to remove functionality from other OS clients, all they're doing is causing folks who depend on (and *pay* for via SkypeIn numbers) voice mail to look for other solutions.
