ISight to AIM on PC

OK . . i know that this topic has been brought up before and trust me, I've read through all of them and tried everything, but still can't get it to work. If i initiate or my sister initiates the video conference, I get this message
"Failed to Start Video Chat because: (Me) did not respond."
Odd message since i DID press Accept or i'm the one that initiated the video conference.
I know my iSight is working because I just had a video conference with my Mom (mac to mac) a couple of hours ago.
Can someone please help? My mom hasn't actually seen my sister since Xmas and the biggest reason I got my mom the new iMac is so that she can see my sister who's going to school far away.
Thanks ahead of time!

... I've read through all of them and tried everything...Including this one: Help for iChat AV 3 Problems ?
Have you tried applying the Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 Combo using a method like How I Update My Mac OS X ?

    Welcome to the    Discussions
Open the Connection Doctor in the Video menu
In the Capabilities Option does it suggest you are "too Slow" for some functions ?
If so then go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and change the speed to 1.5MBps and Restart iChat.

  • ISight-iChat-AIM-Skype review

I have an iMac with a built-in iSight webcam. After working with connections in various countries over several days I find that the best iMac to PC connections are through Skype, not AIM.
AIM connections were very pixilated and had a strong audio echo effects. But Skype did not have these problems.
iChat to iChat worked well (Mac to Mac) but very few of my friends overseas have Macs so we've been using Skype with good results. iChat to AIM was quite poor and I gave on on that.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Pelerei
Launch iChat and check your iChat > Preferences > Video > Microphone Choices Bar. Set it to "Internal Microphone" and try again.
If the setting is already at "Internal", change the setting to anything else and immediately set it back to "Internal."
If that does not fix your problem, you should next check to be sure there is a check mark next to the iChat > Video > Microphone Enabled menu item.

  • Can not turn on isight in AIM Windows

I can not get built in isight to turn on in AIM 6.0 or 5.9 in windows on my macbook pro. I am using boot camp and windows XP Pro. I have set prefs to use isight and all the tests turn on isight camera but not when using AIM. We are trying to comunicate with nephew in service who only has windows and so far AIM is the only thing that I can find that supports Audio/video. Thanks Carl

    Hi Carl.
Until someone who uses a macbook pro posts an answer, I can offer a couple of alternatives.
    (1) If your nephew in service who has windows can install AIM 5.9 on his PC, your Mac's iChat application can connect to him. Some users report difficulty making the connection, but for most of us, iChat on a Mac works fine for text and AV connections with an XP Pro PC running AIM 5.9.
AIM 5.9 does not support audio only to iChat.
AIM Triton / AIM 6.x does NOT work with iChat.
Reboot your Mac into OS X and launch iChat. You can use your existing AIM account name to log in to AIM via iChat. If you need more setup help than your Mac's iChat > iChat Help gives you, see this setup guide.
A note for readers considering the FREE dot Mac account name mentioned in the linked setup guide. The free dot Mac trial name or your existing dot Mac account name will continue to work as an iChat account name even if you let your paid dot Mac account lapse or decide not to pay for dot Mac features at the end of the 60 day trial. Your dot Mac screen-name will continue to work as an iChat name even after the trial period ends and your other dot Mac services expire.
    (2) If you have difficulty with the iChat <-> AIM 5.9 connection, and if your nephew is authorized to load other applications on his PC, you can use Skype. You will need to download and install the OS X version of Skype, and your nephew will download and install the version for Windows XP Pro.
Many who post here report that Skype offers easier cross-platform connections. In my testing, Skype video chat is usually of lower quality than iChat's, but it is certainly useable if iChat cannot make a viable connection.
Although Skype's web site mostly discusses its ability to call telephones from your computer for a fee, computer-to-computer calls, video chats, and text messaging are free. Skype's web site also offers a great help section.
If you cannot get your XP software working, you might consider these alternatives.
    Cheers.

  • Isight and Aim

I am still having problems with the ichatAV When I try to make contactt, even with a test site the same message come back to that I failed to respond to my own invitation. I have turned off the firewall completely. I am a novice at this so I tried the sites you suggested but am still at a loss as to what I should do next. Any suggestions?

I tried forever to get iChat to work for Video Chatting to PC Users. Also went through all sorts of firewall and other settings. Only to be told by my Dad, he never has this much trouble just video chatting to other PC Users. (this does not refer to all the other problems he has with his PC)
So we installed the latest version of Skype. And that 'Just Works' out of the box. Instant Video Chat. No changing of any settings. And all cross - platform.
Apple need to sort out iChat. How else can you convince PC users that Macs 'just work'?
So I'd go with Skype for the time being. Saves a lot of hassle.

  • ISight / iChat return error message

    I have a G4-800 / Tiger + iSight + iChat + AIM + Linksys WRT54GP2 router
    Muy daughter has a G4-400 / Panther + iSight + iChat + AIM + Livebox.
text chat works but when I invite her to a video conference, iChat says it has failed because I "have not answered" - please note that it was I who called her, is it a question of ports setting?
    Andre Blaize

Welcome Andre. You are wise to be suspicious of the error message that does not make sense when you are calling. Here are some suggestions that will help you find the cause of your troublesome symptom.
Both of you should test with several other users. If you do not have enough available buddies, there are some users who will help him test in this list of Buddy Names for iChat Test.
Your daughter should consider Possible hardware or software conflicts with her "Livebox." If she has other firewire or A/V connected devices, she should check them, too.
If testing shows that one of you cannot connect to anyone (or only to a very few), and if the other can connect with everyone else, the problem is with the system that has difficulty connecting to most systems. Whichever one who has problem should try the suggestions relevant for his system from Help for iChat AV 3 Problems. Hopefully, both of you will not need to do all the troubleshooting work.
If testing shows that BOTH of you can connect to all (or almost all) others, you may have what Ralph Johns calls the "certain buddy" problem. Try Ralph's suggestions at Can not connect to a certain Buddy. (You may have to scroll down to get to the Certain Buddy part.)
If your testing and troubleshooting leads you to specifically suspect port problems, or if you want to know more about the subject of port settings with iChat AV, see the Router Set Up sub-menu items on "Setting Up Your Router" and "Eliminating Problem areas" in Ralph Johns' iChat Pages.
Also, your system info shows that you use Mac OS X (10.4.3). I suggest you update your Mac OS to the current version (10.4.6) using the "Combo Updater" as explained in How I Update My Mac OS X. 10.4.6 resolves a number of issues and makes several iChat improvements over your old version of Tiger. As mentioned in this link, applying the Combo Updater can sometimes solve the "did not answer" error problem.
For benefit of those who have a problem similar to yours, please let us know what gets your connection working.
    Cheers,
    Jim

  • Red hot isight

    hello,
i recently got an isight, now its not in use all the time. but it just gets so hot. i read the statement from apple that says its designed to work under warm conditions. i've even been in the local apple store and touched there isights and non of them get even close to how hot mine gets
do you think its faulty? it mounted on top of my imac G5 2Ghz
it cools down right away when unplugged
    anyone else having these issues??
    thanx
    chip

    Hello, Chip.
How to turn iSight (really) off
If your iSight continues to deliver good sound and picture, and if you believe that your iSight is hotter than the ones in the Apple Stores you visit merely because their store is cooler than your work area, you may not have a problem.
If you cannot make it cooler in your work area, try a small fan to move the air near your iSight. Aim the air in the general direction of one of the long sides of your iSight, not directly at it.
    b <big>Long</big>
before your iSight gets "red hot", you should unplug it, let it cool, and return it to your retailer for a check-up by their Apple Technicians. Do not risk injury to yourself or damage to your property. Your iSights may be damaged or one of the rare ones that is defective.
    EZ Jim

  • Chat room test

Last weekend I finally got my camera to be recognized by iChat.
During the weekend I tried to set up my girlfriend and brother with an account and make a connection.
Me--iChat and iSight with AIM, they, PCs with digicams with USB set to pc camera.
It didn't work, but no biggie--I'm just testing for home office use in the future when I go freelance. So I gave up pretty quick.
So I need to test with other people. The autoresponders in this FAQ worked:
FAQ: Want to Test your iSight With Another Person?
But the other profiles (inviting tests) are not active, as far as individual testing.
So I googled video chat rooms to test, but I got a bunch of nasty sites that made me afraid for my browser.
So where can I go to test, a place where I don't have to give my credit card or worry about virtual STDs?
The truth is, I'm vague on the entire logic of this. I have iChat software, and AIM membership, and go to a video chat room with other people who....have the same exact thing? Or what?

    Hi Matt,
Like Rj I will be happy to test with you. I keep very irregular hours so I am not online all of the time. I should be available later today if you want to try.

  • PC compatibility

I'm sure this has been asked repeatedly but..........I have a G3 iBook with OS 10.4.3, iSight, iChatAV, AIM Messenger. Two contacts have Dell and IBM computers respectively. Both have AIM 5.9 Messenger and appropriate Webcam software and cameras. We can text message but nothing else. They are happily video conferencing but I am left out! My bandwidth is on None (no limit) and my microphone and camera are enabled. One contact is in US while the other is in Poland. Would the latter make any difference as far as video conferencing. Apparently audio conferencing (without video) isn't possible; however if I could get the video to work, I'd be very happy. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   iSight, iChatAV, AIM mesenger

    Hello, Philip,
Glad to know you got things working. I was wondering about this myself. If I understand you correctly, you are using the latest iChat AV and iSight on your Mac G3 and your daughter is using the Windows version of AIM v5.9.3. Both of you can see the video and hear the audio during your chats. Is this the configuration you're using?
Or perhaps you're both using the AIM client software, you with AIM 4.7 for Mac and she with AIM 5.9.3 for Windows?
Please clarify if you would. I'd much appreciate learning from your success.
    Thank you,
    Steven

  • IChat with WINDOWS users

Unfortunately, I still have some friends who have Windows machines. I've chatted with some non-Mac users, but don't know how they're doing it.
Can a Windows user use an iSight?
What software do they need to connect the way we would connect with the buddy list on iChat?
I know they don't need a .mac account and can use AIM, but I don't know what to tell them to do about the camera and chat software. ???
    Thanks.

  • One-way video chat with iSight on Mac to PC via AIM

I recently bought an iSight camera for my powerbook G4. I am having trouble getting a video chat connected to my friend who is using AIM 5.5 on his PC. I am using AIM 4.7 for macintosh. Are there any tips on getting a one way video chat started?? he doesn not have a webcam

    Hello Ivy,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your PC pal should upgrade to the current AIM 5.9. If fixes some of 5.5's problems.
AIM for Mac has no video (or audio) capability). More info in the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ.
See Using iSight with iChat AV for info on how to use your iSight for video chat.
Then, see Mac Video Chat with PCs for info on making video connections with PCs.
For more information on one-way video, search your Mac's
    b iChat > Help > iChat Help
for "one-way video" (without the quotation marks).
The requirements for one-way video are the same as for two-way video except for one camera.
One-way video between an iSight-equipped Mac and a correctly configured PC is possible for most users. However, some users report that they can just NEVER get it to work. We do not know why that is. Adding any compatible USB webcam to the PC system (and "tuning" correctly after the addition) should let you make video connections if you are one who cannot make it work without a camera.

  • Isight works...just not with AIM

My isight (MBP) works, just not with AIM. This problem just recently started happening. I do not even see the Camera icon on my buddy list.
When I restart in safe mode, I know longer have the problem. But when I start my comp up with a regular boot the problem reappears.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

iChat works better in both iChat 3 (Tiger) and iChat 4 (Leopard) if the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming Settings are set to 1.5Mbps and Not Automatic.
In Tiger iChat 3 reads the Automatic Setting as a Zero.
In Leopard this setting is now read as only 384k which will allow you to Video chat and is also the lowest Spec setting Apple states a 3 and 4 way chat can happen but will cap what Bandwidth/Connection speed you have.
If we are talking form iChat TO AIM (6.5 or above) then you should read this doc by AIM on their Real Time Protocol (read th paragraph under the pics.)

  • Isight cam for MSN and AIM users (on Windows)

I'm having trouble set my isight for Windows users. My friend was using Trillion. Will that work or should she be using AIM proper.
I also downloaded MSN messenger for Mac, and I'd like to use the isight cam to talk to people on that. How do I go about setting that up? I hear it's kinda hairy.
    Chris

    Hi Christow!
You mention that you are having problems connecting to your windows friends. I assume you are able to connect with mac users with no problem. Here's is a nice overview to have your windows friends review so you can connect with them: http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html
As far as MSN for the mac, it doesn't support video at this time, you may want to consider using aMSN which can be found at: http://amsn.sourceforge.net/

  • ISight for talking with Windows AIM people

i recently bought an iSight for my iBook and am still unsuccessful in chatting over iChat with my friends who have Windows AIM. any suggestions on how to solve this problem?

There's an update triton states it works with ichat av now I pulled it from
    http://aimtoday.aol.com/features/mainredesign.adp?fid=videoim
What Do I Need To Use AIM Video IM? To use AIM Video IM both you, and the person you want to Video IM with, need the following:
    · Latest Version of AIM: Download AIM Here
    · The Windows XP Operating System or Apple iChat AV version 2.1 or later
    · 64 MB RAM more
    · 233 MHz or faster processor
    · A web camera
    · Internet connection
This new version of AIM called Triton is supposed to work with (or it at least acknowledges the existance of) Ichat and Isight though I've heard ramblings that earlier versions of triton actually created problems with using ichat (maybe the bad press had them rethink the strategy of purposely disabling the compability) that link above actually included the additional XP files a pc user might have to download. (ALL OF THIS just to get a web cam to work?!! No wonder AOL is losing customers)
    http://www.aim.com/helpfaq/startingout/getstarted.adp?aolp=#six
Q: Is AIM Triton compatible with AIM 5.9, AOL 9.0 and iChat?
A: : AIM Triton works seamlessly with AIM 5.9, AOL 9.0 and iChat. You can send and receive instant messages with your buddies using any of these clients. Certain features may not work across all clients at this time. Voice Chat with more than two people only works with other Triton users. Video Chat will work only between two Triton users at this time.
