ISight - Where'd The LED Go?

What happened to the LED next to the iSight?

I just received mine and I was a bit confused at first too. I'm looking at it now and it does appear that there are tiny holes like on the first MBP but they don't go all the way to the surface. The LED is definitely still there though. You just don't see it when it's off.

  • Where is the location of isight photo for new osx account?

Hi all - my first post....
When a new account is created and the (inbuilt) isight camera is used to take a login photo, where on the OS is that photo stored and in what format?
Sorry if it's basic, but I've searched high and low for ages...

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, David
While your question may be basic, the answer is not so simple.
Yours is actually a question about how OS X works rather than iSight.
See Niel's Nov, 2006, response to Bernhard VonZastrow1's question in:
    http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=3532758
Because this old post has been archived and will be removed from view before this topic is, I quote Niel's response here for the record:
The login picture can be anywhere on the hard disk; to find its current location, open the NetInfo Manager in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder, and check the picture property for your user account.
To find this property for a system other than the one currently used to start up the computer, open the Terminal application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run the following command:
sudo nicl -raw '/Volumes/volumename/private/var/db/netinfo/local.nidb' -read users/username/
This command will prompt you for your administrator password; nothing will appear in the Terminal window while it is being typed. Look for the picture line in the output to find the path.

If Niel's response answers your question, please let us know, but wait for Niel to post here so you can credit him with the "Solved" points he deserves.
If you need more help of info about this topic, you might want to post in Tiger Forums > Administration, Accounts & Login Discussions. Niel and other very smart folks will help you with your OS X questions there.

  • Will a external Apple iSight work with the latest Mac Mini?

with a firewire 400-800 if it will what software do i need to take pictures and videos.
    Many Thanks

Will a external apple isight work with the latest mac mini.
Yes (if the external iSight works.)
External iSights are great webcams, but they are getting old (as consumer electronics go) and some have had pretty rough treatment. You can test yours using the suggestions from this page:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html
I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get your external iSight working with your mini.
If you do not already have an external iSight and are considering buying one now,
a new webcam (with warranty) may be a better choice.
Many available alternatives are listed here: http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/

Use one of the following ways to connect your FW400 external iSight to a FW800 Mac port:
    • To use the FW400 6pin-6pin cable that comes with iSight, you can use a 6pin-9pin adapter
      like one of these:
      http://tinyurl.com/ydsbb6m  (I use this one.)
      http://tinyurl.com/cgll7o
      http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html
    • This Firewire 400-800 cable can work:
      http://store.apple.com/us/product/TP320LL/A (I use this one.)
    • Some report that this low-priced alternative cable works:
      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189097
I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get external iSight working with your mini. Once iSight works when it is the only FW connected device, you can try connecting other Firewire devices to determine whehter you can use any of them without conflict.
... if it will what software do i need to take pictures and videos.
With your 10.6.3 mini, you can use QuickTime X, iChat, Photo Booth, iMovie, and some of the other apps that are installed with OS X. Your Mac's Help for each of these apps can tell you how to use them with iSight (or other connected cameras.)
Some more apps you can use are shown in this list:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
The web links for each app gives details on what functions is offers with your webcam.

  • HT4600 So. The manual indicates I can set the LED to flash on activity.

    Running MountainLion
I have a first generation Time Capsule, which long ago I set the LED to flash on activity. I happen to like that setting. Alot. Lets me visually diagnose that our broadband connection has croaked (again). I just bought a 4th generation Time Capsule. The manual indicates I can set the LED to flashing, and obviously, once upon a time I knew how. I check the base station pane, where I am supposed to be able to set this. AND THERE IS NO FREAKING OPTION TO SET BLINKING. Sorry. Frustrated here.
Checked with both 6.1 and 5.6 versions of the airport utility.
So. Are the manuals full of excrement, or did Apple mess up and remove a function many of us really, really, really liked?

    I have no issues..
If you are running 5.6 utility in ML.. go to manual setup and airport settings.. still works fine.
    Click on options
If you do not have the option even in 5.6 utility, downgrade the firmware on the TC to 7.5.2
    Then it should work.

  • Select Default iSight Cam with Dual LED Cinema Displays

    Hello
I have two 27in LED Cinema Displays, both of which have iSight Cameras.  When I try to facetime, by default, the right monitor camera turns on, but I want to use the left camera.
How do I select which camera on which monitor I want to use?  Both monitors are connected via thunderbolt.  I'm using OS X Mavericks.
    Thanks!

You can try the old trick of first launching a camera app that you do NOT want to use - QuickTimeX > New Movie Recording perhaps - to have it engage the ONE display iSight camera.  After you can see that your camera is engaged with the unwanted app, you can hide that app if desired.  Then launch FaceTime and see if the other connected camera is accessible to FaceTime.
If FaceTime cannot then recognize the second Display iSight, check your System Information utility to see if your Hardware > USB > USB Device Tree recognizes both Display iSights.  If the device tree recognizes only one Display iSight, your lowest cost workaround may be to connect a Mac-compatible webcam to one of your available USB ports so it is recognizable .  The external camera may then be selectable in your FaceTime menu without the two-application trick.

  • Set the LED more than once

    Hi
    1.   I am doing a program that has a flat sequence structure. It has a LED in the first frame and I want to set this LED again after that in another frame. How can I do that?
    2.   the program also has some controls that I want to check continuously and at any instance if the user change the values of these controls to unacceptable input the program indicates an error by the LEDs regardless of which frame is currently executed.
    Can anybody help, please?

here is a sample that I think is what you are looking for. I only posted the picture since I work with LV 7.0 and you probably dont have that.
    notes:
1)If you have more than one extra "frame" change the layout to a state machine, it will be much easier to maintain and will look (not to mention function) a lot better.
    2) There is a hidden event in the event structure...you should be able to figure it out, its basically the same as the shown one, except for the temperature.
    3) I dont know where you are getting the pressure and temperature from, but you will need to update them between iterations of the loop.
    4) Replace Done with whatever is your ending condition for your program.

  • Why does the isight signal block the imovie signal?

    I am using iMovie 6.0.3, OS X 10.4.8 and a MacBook Pro.
I want to import video from a camcorder through a firewire.
The image on the screen is my isight image.
When I turn on the camcorder, imovie locks up (spinning color wheel), or the isight image stays in the window.
I cannot find any way in the prefs box to tell the mac to take the camcorder signal instead of the isight signal.
How can I switch from the isight signal to the camcorder signal?

    Hi mediacy:
    Welcome to discussions.
    This from Apple:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302503
Turning off your built-in iSight camera
To turn off the built-in iSight camera, just close
the active iChat window. The green LED next to the
camera will go dark, indicating that the built-in
iSight camera is off and no longer capturing video.
    Does that help?
    Sue
iChat was never on, so i could not close the window.
The isight camera DID come on when I selected it in the drop-down box beside the camera icon above the timeline, then I could not select the camcorder because it did not appear in the drop-down menu. I force-quit iMovie.
I changed firewire cables on the chance that the first was not carrying the signal, but the second one does not produce a camcorder signal either.

  • Help please, the leds my t61 turn on though not even the BIOS appears on the screen

The title says all. After installing (dont know if it really have something to do) a modem usb and shutting down the laptop, the case, to transport it, i open it and the leds where turn on but no image appears. Then, i decide to force the reiniciate of the laptop, turn it off, and then push the power buttom, but, again, only the leds turn on but no image appears, not even the BIOS.
Can someone help me please? Googling i've find two possible answers:
    i) whether the motherboard is dead. (Though, that will be totally unexpected, it was totally fine, and the laptop only have 1 year and a half. And yes, i have updated the BIOS, but that happent 2 weeks ago, and everything went fine)
ii) i have to reset the bios (dunno exactly how to do it. But i keep the live cd of the BIOS which i use to update it. That means that i should use it?
Further information: The fans are working, i can hear them.  No beep code.
    Thanks in advance.
    HELP!

Just found the solution.  It was justa matter of performing an electro static discharge, pushing the buttom 10 times in a 30 sec gap. Now sounds silly but im sure will work for someone. Just remenber to unplug any power alimentation to the laptop first, pushing the button in the right intervals (i had to try for half an hour to perform the right pattern) and when you first time boot it after doing these plug in the AC adapter, without the battery (it took me another half an hour for these)
    cheers.

  • Where is the Mac downloadable version of Adobe Acrobat 7 Pro that doesn't require activation

I purchased Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium, it cost more than €2,000. When I recently tried to re-install it due to having to reformat my hard drive I could no longer activate it over the phone or online.
When I rang the help number it directed me to the downloadable versions that don't require activation. Great! UNTIL I realise Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional is only available for Windows as a download.
Where is the download for the Mac Version as it not included in the bundle either. This is extremely urgent. Thank you in advance.

    To maswatson
The answer to your question of March 12, 2015 – "Where is the Mac downloadable version of Adobe Acrobat 7 Pro that doesn't require activation[?]" – is … nowhere. That doesn't mean it's not available to you, however. I have successfully installed several CS2 programs and Acrobat 7, on two computers.
The hard drive on my MacBook Air crashed recently. After a new drive was installed I had to reload various programs, including CS2 Premium. I used the original disks and the serial number on the package.
When I tried to open InDesign, however, I got an "Activate Using the Internet" message which led to an "Activation Server Unavailable" message that gave me three options, the last of which was "Click the Phone Activation button to activate the product over the phone." I called the toll-fee number and heard the following recorded message: "We no longer support activation issues over the phone."
So I searched the Web, figuring that others had encountered and solved this problem. Eventually, I found "Creative Suite Help / Download Acrobat 7 and OS2 Products" at https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html#.
I also found "How to Fix Adobe’s “Licensing for this product has stopped working” Error by Aaron Nelsen at http://hijinksinc.com/2010/01/20/how-to-fix-adobes-licensing-for-this-product-has-stopped- working-error/. He writes "… you MUST delete adobe_00080000_tsf.data and adobe_00080000_event.log" which is found in /Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/FLEXnet. So I did that.
I also deleted Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, and Photoshop CS2 from my Applications folder. I did not delete Acrobat 7 or GoLive.
After clicking on "English" at https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html#, I downloaded Illustrator CS2 for Mac, InDesign CS2 for Mac, and Photoshop CS2 for Mac. I was not able to download Acrobat 7 because the only option is for Windows. As you know, there is no download for Mac.
Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, and Photoshop CS2 all opened without any problems. When I tried to open GoLive, I got the same "Activate Using the Internet" message I got at the outset, when I tried to open InDesign. I proceeded, and now have a 30-day trial. The same limitation has been placed on Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, because I downloaded them, whereas GoLive was installed from the CS2 disks.
Next, I opened Acrobat 7.0 Professional – the one installed from the original CS2 disks. It works fine.
BOTTOM LINE: If you want Acrobat 7.0 Professional, install Creative Suite using original CS2 disks, then delete the other CS2 programs from those disks. If you want Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, and others, download them from https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html#.
I am hoping this explanation will help you. I feel great sympathy for you because the "answers" you received have been obtuse and clearly less than helpful. (I requested a "Yes," "No," or "Don't know" answer to a very straightforward question, but didn't get it.)
My experience tells me that the answer to your question "Where is the Mac downloadable version of Adobe Acrobat 7 Pro that doesn't require activation[?]" – is … nowhere, but you don't need to download it. It's on the original disks and it does not require activation. That's why Adobe did not included it with the Windows version at https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html#.
I hope this answers your question, solves your problem, and ends your frustration.

  • Photo booth functionality lost: where is the video/background replacement?

    Hi,
I used photo booth to replace the background with a video.
For the camera I use an isight camera.
but now in MAC 10.5.2 there IS NO BACKGROUND replacement.
It does not display the option to add the video to be used in background.
By the way there are only 2 pages or effects now...
where is the video/background functionality now in photo boot?
    thanks a lot

    Hello avalokitesvara
"2 pages or effects" is normal for us Dual G5 users.  Dual G5s can't use backgrounds (sometimes Apple calls them "backdrops" instead.)
Whether the background/backdrop is in iChat OR Photo Booth, a Mac with an Intel processor is required to use backdrops/backgrounds.

  • Using the LED display as a heater!

    Hello,
I'm living in a student dorm in UK and it's pretty cold in the night.
My central heater is not always turning on and I always have a trouble complaining to the accommodation office.
Now I have a 24" LED cinema display and my problem is gone. I can feel strong background heat in my room after having the display turned on about 1 hour.
So it's a buy-1-get-1-free: Display and a room heater in one prize. Cool, isn't it? (Well, I mean, hot...)
Back to serious thing. I would like to know if it is a normal for a LED display. Since I never had a display before, only had a laptop.
I touched everywhere of the screen, back and front, and feel the same heat dispersed all over its body. There is especially heat coming out from the bottom mesh, where I always put a cup of tea there and keep it warm.
Overall, no problem for me, but I don't know if it will cause any damage to the display in the long run. I have no AppleCare for this display because I did not purchase the same time as my laptop, and purchase a new protection plan is expensive though.

Mine gets very warm also. Remember the power source is now inside of the display. Its vented at the bottom, and helps to keep my hands warm while typing. But its perfectly normal. If you check the LED displays at the Apple stores, they too generate a lot of heat. Even my 40" Sony XBR LCD TV gets warm, so I think that is normal.
