Isight with mac messenger

Hi
I was wondering whether you could use isight with the mac version of msn messenger?

... Mercury Messenger which logs on to the MSN network and lets you use any camera as a webcam.
But NOT for Mac OS X video conferencing. The fourth bullet in "<big>Notes : </big>" on this Mercury help page says:If you have a webcam, Mercury supports sending video if you are on Windows or Linux. Mac OS X does not have a full JMF library so for now, it will not workThe second bullet item there says:... Mac OS support will start in 1709 Beta 1.

  • Using iSight with Mac Messenger ?

I was just wondering if anyone knew a way to use the iSight with Mac Messenger, and, or view someone else's webcam? I've been told by friends that it's not possible but I just wanted to check here incase there is some 'backalley' way to do so.
    Thanks for your time

Thanks, but i was just really looking if it was possible with Mac Messenger. I've tried aMSN in the past and it gave me a lot of problems so i don't want to go down that route again.
It doesn't really matter if it isn't possible i just though it wouldn't hurt to ask.
    Thanks anyway

  • Isight with yahoo messenger???

Is it possible to use isight with yahoo messenger?

Yes, but YM does not support voice on Mac. You can get moving pictures, but no audio.
More info in the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ.

  • Using iSight with MSN Messenger

I have MSN messenger 5.0 for a Mac - I cannot seem to figure out how to use the iSight with it . Has any1 been able to do this or are the 2 not compatible?
    Thanks

    Hello Alefiyah,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Grant it right. No video in MSN for Mac.
If you are interested, see the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ for info on how to use iChat AV with MSN Messenger for text chat.
Has any1 been able to do this or are the 2 not compatible?
Not currently. See Peter Tulipan1's recent Can iChat have video chat with Windows Messenger? thread for info about the development of video via the MSNM Server by using an application called Mercury Messenger on the Mac. Note that their Support Info says two-way video does not work at this time, though.

  • Original iSight with Mac Mini

I'm trying to hook my original iSight camera up to my Mac Mini. I have a couple of questions...
Of course, the iSight uses the Firewire 400 cable. I have a 400 to 800 Adapter that came with my iPod 3G. Unfortunately that adapter does not seem to fit the Firewire 800 port on my mini. My question is, what adapter do I need?
Since iChat AV is no longer available, will the camera work with other applications? I specifically need to attend 2-way Video Conferences using Cisco's Jabber Application.
I have to be on a conference call in 5 days, so any information you can give would be very helpful.
I live in a rural area of New Mexico and there are no webcams available locally that work with Mac. Finances prevent me from traveling to a large town to purchase one until after the first of the month. Which is too late!
iSIGHT Cameral: Model A1023 circa 2003 (Silver Camera Body)
FIREWIRE ADAPTER: 6 Pin Female Firewire 400 to Male Firewire 800, came with iPod 3G 10B whenever that came out
COMPUTER: Late 2012 Mac Mini, 2.3GHz, 8GB Ram, 1T HD running OS X 10.9.4 (internal HD) and Yosemite for Public Beta Program (External HD)

I myself and other as discussed in this forum could not get the iSight camera to really work on a 2012 Mac Mini. It works but you get no sounds and only one frame every 20 seconds or so.
I also Googled and that showed the same.

    Hi

  • Using a refurbished iSight with Mac Mini - possible?

    Hello.
I just got my girlfriend a Mac Mini and, after seeing all the posts with the web cam incompatibilities with the Mac Mini, I wanted to see if purchasing an old refurbished iSight would work instead of buying an off-the-shelf Logitech web cam.
The main purpose to be using this web cam is to do video conferencing using iChat.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi.
The USB Video Class cameras have built-in support since 10.4.9.
Have a look at the Creative Live! Cam Optia AF, which works right-out-of-the box with iChat and Skype.
The Creative Live! Cam Optia Pro is a little less pricey, and should work as good as the AF.
There's another (cheaper) model, the Live! Cam Optia, but it hasn't got a built-in mic.
    Good Luck.

  • Confirm iSight with Mac mini (early 2009)?

Can someone please confirm that an iSight (external Firewire 400) camera actually works with their Mac mini (early 2009)? Of course, that will need a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 adapter.
I can't get mine to work. I've used two different iSight cameras that work on other (older) Mac minis. I've used the cable that comes with the iSights and another Firewire 400 cable.
When I plug it in the iSight makes a noise and the light comes on briefly (for a second or two) and then it goes off. No applications that require a camera (like Photo Booth) see the camera.
I'm worried that this Mac mini may not have enough power to run the iSight, which is probably also an ominous sign for unpowered external Firewire drives.
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Cheers,
    Ashley.

Well, it seems that I have found my sad answer!!! The very same issue. New MAC MINI, Old and nice isight camera, which works perfectly well with my powerbook G4 even now, but not with my new mac mini.
I am sure I have the correct cable (it allowed migration of my entire admin account from my powerbook to my new mac mini), but it still does not work between isight and new mac mini.
Having said this, I certainly remember plugging my isight to my new mac mini using this new adapter cable (800-400mb/sec - orange flat one) and it was working at least i saw my image.
I do not remember which application i used (skype or ichat) but i certainly remember my satisfaction with my new cable. Since then i did not need video conversations, but yesterday i needed one, and i realized that my isight is not recognized by my macmini any more!
I am saying this because it might not be only a power issue, it could be that multiple updates of i sight on my old powerbook passed in block to my new mac mini and this allowed isight working. In contrast, those update are not installable on Leopard operating systems.
I think, since i saw those two devices (isight and new mac mini) working together nicely, i deleted my entire migration account (having found a different way of keeping only absolutely necessary things on my new mac mini). I was thinking about this all day today. Can this be it? drivers issue? the non-installable on Leopard updates that otherwise can be migrated en-block from the old system?
I am sorry to confuse you all, if I did, but what do you think about it please?

  • Problem with Mac Messenger and

Recently I have been big issues with Messanger. Whenever I tried to login to Yahoo through Mac Book Messages it keep on asking for passord and never loginn. However I had tried using gmail, which works perfectly fine.
While I downloaded Yahoo Mesanger for MAc from Yahoo and tried to login, It still agev me error please check your login credentails ( Please note that I am abel to login to yahoo mail and other products with same credentails)
I did tried to change password and login but still facing the same problem.......
    Kindly help

    Hi,
    That does seem odd.
The GoogleTalk  login in Messages uses port 5223 and SSL which would need the Mac Firewall and your router to have those ports open.
The Yahoo part of Messages uses port 443, which in most routers is always open (It is used by Apple Login page for these Support Communities)
The Yahoo App itself though does use ports that are above the 1024 threshold (above this the ports need to be opened).
If the router is using UPnP to open the ports this is not the issue.
I would query the Name or ID you are using with Yahoo.
I am under the impression that in the Yahoo app you can use one of the valid types of ID
I am not sure how you do that at the sign in screen  (I may also have misunderstood what I read).
I do know that the Yahoo part of Messages (And iChat 6) only allows the use of Yahoo Buddy names rather than being able to add MSN or  Lotus Buddies.
I am not aware that the password has to be limited to a certain number of characters  (The AIM Side is limited to 16 characters and this can be an issue when using Apple IDs that are recognised and Valid AIM names).
Do you have Yahoo active (For Messages) in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars ?

if so. how can i make it work?!?!

    Hello jellosaladE
can the iSight built in camera be used with msn messenger?
An iNtel Mac can use its built-in iSight "with" MSN Messenger.

  • Is it possible to use iSight with Messenger for Mac?

I have been racking my brain on how to get iSight to work with my friends on Window messenger. The video option is not available. I've had my macbook for 2 months now and, after working/giving up and going back again cannot seem to get it to jive. Any ideas would be appreciated!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, flowerlove
The answer here will depend on the specifics of what you want to do.
Both Microsoft Messenger for Mac and the older MSN Messenger for Mac are text only apps. You can not use iSight with either. Please let us know if you mean some different "Messenger" software.
This Windows Messenger does not appear to offer video, even for PCs. If this is the application your friends are using, no video work with it.
For a built-in iSight video connection with PC contacts who only connect via Windows Live Messenger or other clients of the MSN Messenger server, you can select from these alternatives:
    (1) Because your MacBook can use Boot Camp or Parallels to run Windows XP software on your MacBook, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows instant messenger application that your contacts are using to do video.
    (2) and (3) In addition to Niel's good "aMSN" suggestion, you can also try Mercury Messenger for Mac. Either can work with OS X for video and text chat. They offer the same features, but neither offers audio connections.  Use whichever one of these two you find more reliable or easiest to use if you do not want to add Windows XP to your iNtel Mac,.

  • Does iSight work with Yahoo Messenger?

Before I buy, can anybody tell me does iSight work with Yahoo Messenger? Thanks.

It does for me (as well as Yahoo! Messenger for Mac works for anyone.)
Take a look at the responses to mike jones6's thread, iSight Compatability? The responses there will give you a more expanded answer your question.
If you have more specific questions after reading this thread, post back here, and we will be happy to try to help further.
Depending on what you want to do with Yahoo, searching iSight Discussions for "Yahoo" will give MANY threads that may be of interest. One example: Compatibility of cams
