  • ISight with Windows XP?

Can i use an isight with Windows XP?

No, i mean, if it is possible to connect isight with a Winows XP maschine? It is possible if your PC has a Firewire connection. However, nobody has ever reported being able to make iSight's mic work on a PC regardless of which drivers or ancillary software they have added to the PC. That is why, in my previous response, I posted "Not recommended. iSight and the PC"Jim

  • ISight With Windows?

I recently sold my iMac G4, and my Uncle had purchased and sent me an iSight for my Mac for my birthday. I am back on my Dell Dimension, and I was wondering if I bought the 6-pin FireWire port card, if iSight will work with Windows as a webcam and a DV Camera. If not I would like to know so I can send it back to my uncle ASAP. I would greatly appreciate replies to my email at [email protected], if you wouldn't mind. I dont get onto the internet enough to check this kinda stuff .

     Season's Greetings to all!
Good try, RJ! I don't know why some of the Apple FAQ (User tips) links work so intermittently these days????
Short answer: iSight is not the best choice for use as a PC webcam. For more info, this link iSight and the PC works. (I just tried it.)

  • External iSight on Windows Xp

i have windows xp with SP2 and all the updates from MSFT running via Bootcamp (Leopard version of it) on a mac mini core 2 duo.
although i did install all the drivers created by boorcamp, it appears that all components were installed except my external iSight.
i have a friend @ work that has windows install via bootcamp on a MBP core duo with
internal iSight and he is able to use iSight in the windows environment; i.e. Yahoo
or msn messenger and other apps.
i'm wondering if there's a way to make the iSight work on my computer

Now for the "non-Apple" possibilities, wayland.ind
People have been trying, with limited success, to use external iSight with Windows XP on their PC for years.
While USB webcams are the "normal" Windows cameras, apparently Firewire iSight can be detected by Windows. However, according to the links below, the external iSight's mic will not work so you must also connect a different mic with available drivers if you want voice. Moreover, one of the links report that external iSight's image is severely exposure so you must use use additional software to control the camera. (If you are an experienced Windows user, you may be able to modify the driver parameters yourself.)
While I do not use Windows and have never used my external iSight in Windows, the following links may give you some ideas you can try:

  • Making iSight work with Windows Vista on VirtualBox

I have a MacBook Pro with Windows Vista installed on the VirtualBox platform. The only problem I have is that it will not work with the iSight camera. I need the cam for video conferencing on a webring, and I do have to run the ring in Windows. When I start the ring, the camera comes on but I never get an image. The image screen just says "Initializing" and shows a counter showing the seconds elapsed. Is there a driver I can install, or some sort of workaround?
    Thank you,
    Leah

    Hi,
Then you need to get at least the Snow Leopard Install Disk at the $29 price.
The Original Disks will be grey and are Model Specific.
That is to say that any Grey disks for an iMac for example are only useful to Reinstall the OS on another iMac from the same Production range - say Early 2008

  • ISight - connects with windows users no problem?

I'd like to buy this webcam, but I heard it has problems connecting with windows users. Will I be able to talk to people on it through AIM? Thats what I'd like, if not, I probably wont get it. Anyone have any personal experience or have any answers or helpful tips - I'd appreciate anything - thanks.

It is not the iSight itself that gives you the impression that connecting with Micros~1 Windows users causes problems ... it is the availability of (cross platform) applications that makes connecting a bit more cumbersome.
I have PowerMac G5 with iSight and I connect with my Micros~1 Windows platform family equiped with and without USB webcam.
The challenge will be to find messaging / VoiP applications with bearable audio quality and reasonable video performance.
I started with Skype for Voice and Yahoo! messenger for bad video ( 1-2 fps and video size 320 x 240).
Skype has a video plugin (only for Windows)
Yahoo! Messenger does not have voice yet (2.5.3)
MSN is badmouthing because of the "M"
I have used iChat with another Apple believer ... and the quality of Voice and Video is unparralled.
The best two alternatives I found are:
    a) AIM 5.9
    b) Trillian (www.trillian.cc)
Both use a free AIM screen name.
AIM works fine, see also EZJim pages.
TrillianPro 3.1 reuses AIM screen names ... and ... it has both good audio and zoom-to-full-screen-video size with fps rates filling your bandwidth.
The only negative on Trillian so far, the "handshake" for connecting two people takes some time.
TrillianBase is free but has no Video capabilities. The Pro version is 25$.

  • Using the isight camera in the bootcamp setup with windows 8.1

    Hi
I am running OSX Maverick in a bootcamp setup with Windows 8.1 and have played around with the isight camera but I would like to know what folder the photo's/video's are sent to?
Also, are there any settings or user guide for the isight camera in Windows 8.1?
    Thanks

I don't use Boot Camp, but does anything here help you? Boot Camp - Apple Support.
My look there did not show anything about the new Windows 8.1.  The latest I saw was Windows 8.
Brave01Heart wrote: ... what folder the photo's/video's are sent to?...
The answer will be wherever the app you are iusing for the capture stores them unless you change the default location.  This answer is the same for either Windows or Apple operating systems.

  • Cannot use isight camera with Windows 7 x32 on Macbook mid-2009

    Very very weird,
it worked until bootcamp was upgraded mid next year.
I have been looking for a solution siunce then.
Wife is using the notebook and she is mad every time she is answering call from Skype or MSN Messenger she needs to reboot into Lion.
She uses Windows 7 x32 on bootcamp most of the time yet she cannot use the camera.
The camera shows grey and freezes wiuth busy mouse cursor.
booting intro Lion works so it is something with the drivers.
    Can anyone help?
I have looking for months already and I did not see solutions...
    Andrea

    Issue Fixed.
BootCamp 3.2 - 3.3 breaks the functionality with Windows 7 at the latest patch level.
    The fix has been:
    upgrading OSX to Lion
    Patch to latest release
    Go To Boot Camp Assistant
Download Windows Support Files to Jump Drive (second option I believe it is)
    Reboot into Windows 7
Run Setup - BootCamp 4.0 will install
    Reboot
Launch Skype or MSN Messenger - ISight will magically work again!

  • Can my iSight work on partitioned hard drive with windows 7?

I have a macbook pro 17in screen, snow leopard. I have yet to get it updated to the latest operating system. I partitioned the hardrive to run windows 7. The built in iSight camera is not working. The dvd player will not visual to tv or projector. If I wanted to project a power point presentation, it wont transfer thru the hardware provided by the mac.

kmburr wrote: Can my iSight work on partitioned hard drive with windows 7?
Yes.  If you are using BootCamp to boot Windows®, see  Apple - Support - Boot Camp for help.
If you are using an virtualization emulator like Parallels, VMware Fusion, CrossOver Mac, or VirtualBox, seek help from its support site.
kmburr wrote:... The built in iSight camera is not working....
If the problem continues after turning Mac off for a minute or two and restarting in Mac OS X with no external devices connected, see Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight.
Be sure to test more than one Apple camera app in more than one user account.
kmburr wrote:... The dvd player will not visual to tv or projector....
I do not understand this sentence. We can try to help with this after you get your other problems corrected.  However, to minimize confusion among problems right now, I suggest you not respond to this unless you can explain how it is related to your other issues.

  • Isight with parallel and windows

Can the built in isight camera be used with windows through parallel?
    thanks
    whales

    Found this.
"I saw that you introduced iSight support for Windows in the most recent RC. When I click on it in the USB menu, it doesn't load. How do I get that working?
    - Anonymous
Yes, its true that we're introducing iSight support into the Update, which should be released in its final form in the next few weeks. Below you'll see how to get your iSight camera working in Windows.
Please keep in mind before you try this that this is BETA SOFTWARE, and that there are still occasional bugs. Back up your virtual machine before upgrading to the Update Release Candidate. You can always go back to build 1970 and reconnect that image if you'd like.
    1) Make sure that you're working with the most recent build of the Parallels Desktop for Mac Update
    2) Install Mac Drivers for Windows into your guest OS:
    3) Reboot when prompted.
    4) Connect iSight as a USB device to Parallels Desktop. You'll find it labeled as "Built-In iSight" in the USB menu.
    5) Wait a bit while it is installed.
    6) Go to My Computer and see the Apple Built-In iSight shortcut. Double-click it. Enjoy your face "

  • Wireless keyboard and mighty mouse do not work with windows Vista

I have a new iMac core 2 duo 20" used by my granddaughter.
The drive has been partitioned using 50-50 with Boot Camp Assistant to form 2 250 GB partitions and windows Vista has been installed on one of them. The installation process runs smoothly as does the process when the OSX disc is installed for the relevant drivers for keyboard, mouse, isight camera etc. At the end of this process it is necessary to click a :"finish" button but at this point the mouse and keyboard have frozen and there is no other way of inputting information. Restarting in windows takes me to the log in page but there is no way to input the user name and proceed further.
Apple support has suggested hat I use a wired keyboard and mouse or call Microsoft support. Microsoft support have told me that they do not support Vista on a Mac.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

I had the same problem on the mac mini from my dad with windows XP.
I could install everything smoothly but when i wanted to connect the mighty mouse and a wireles apple keyboard i had the same problem.
I fixed this by using a mouse with cable and then add the keyboard and mouse via bluetooth in the configurationscreen. i had to do do this 6 times (the same thing) before it worked so maybe its the same in vista

  • Can iChat have video chat with Windows Messenger?

Is there any way to use Jabber or other means to establish a video chat with an MSN Messenger user?
Alternatively, does anyone know if Virtual PC for Mac supports video chat with windows computers?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hello Peter,
Is there any way to ... establish a video chat with an MSN Messenger user?
The best way is still with a Windows XP PC and MSN Messenger.
For use with your Mac, see the MSN, Yahoo, Win Messengers & iChat? FAQ. Jabber is text only.
There is a beta application called Mercury Messenger on Mac OS X that is an MSN Server client.
However, please note that the Mercury Messenger Webcam / Video Conference Support section, which I quote, in part, includes the following:
Video-conferencing is supported on Mac OS X, however it is receive-only, due to an incomplete JMF library for Mac OS X. The feature is still relatively new, and so some issues may occur in use.
Although Mercury Messenger (beta) will connect to the MSN Server, those comparing it with iChat AV's capability should certainly study the sections about the limitations and known issues.
If you get Mercury Messenger on Mac OS X working, please post back and let us know what you think of it.
... does anyone know if Virtual PC for Mac supports video chat with windows computers?
VPC for Mac does not support Firewire video, so it cannot use an iSight for video. Sorry, but I have not seen anyone post a method of using VPC that rivals the performance of using the same application on a Windows PC.
Also, VPC with the current version of Windows is so expensive that, at least where I live, it is often cheaper to buy a used, and sometimes a new, PC to run your PC software.
If you really MUST use PC software, I suggest running it on a PC.
    EZ Jim

  • External iSight and Windows Vista

Did some searching on this and it seems like a lot of people are having troubles. I got it working without much hassle so thought I'd share. First of all, I'm not using BootCamp, Parallels, or any such thing. Just Windows.
When I plug in the iSight, it's recognized as an "AppleComputerInc. iSight" and 2 unidentified devices. I'm guessing at least one of those is the audio. Maybe both since it's stereo audio I think.
It will try and fail to find drivers for all 3 devices.
Go into the Device Manager (right click on Computer, choose Manage and then click Device Manager in the left side of the Management Console.)
Right click the iSight (not the unidentified devices) and select Update Driver Software.
Tell it you want to browse your computer to select the device, and then on the next screen say you want to select from a list of device drivers.
Make sure you uncheck the box to show compatible devices only.
Select Generic as the manufacturer and Generic 1394 Desktop Camera as the model.
That's it. You'll need to turn the brightness way down in whatever application you're going to use, but otherwise it seems to work okay.

    Thanks your microphone info, miken32
Including your up-to-the-minute info, I have still not yet seen a report of any successful use of iSight's Firewire connected microphone with Windows.
If your linked driver works, someone will surely let us know.
    Cheers,
    EZ Jim
