ISkin Case from 1st gen iPhone Fits 3G iPhone

I have the iSkin Revo for the orginal iPhone. It fits the 3G iPhone alomst like it was made for it. I thought I was going to have to spring for a new case, but this iSkin will work for now.
Of course, I purchased the White 3G iPhone and it's now covered with a red and black case.

Be careful with skins. The sensors on the iPhone 3G are not in the same place as on the original iPhone. On the original, they were just above the earpiece speaker, which is why the area above the earpiece is left open on most skins. On the 3G, the sensors were moved. There are a pair of proximity sensors, one above the other, to the left of the earpiece and a single ambient light sensor to the left of the proximity sensors. I was reusing a Speck skin from my old phone and all the new sensors were covered up, except for a part of the top proximity sensor next to the earpiece.
You can see the pattern of the new sensors here.

  • Might be a dumb question, but I am moving from 1st gen to iPadair; on Safari, 1st gen to delete apps/sites just visited, you could double tap home key and apps would appear on bottom and one could delete from there. How does it work on ipadair?

This may be a dumb question, but nonetheless, here goes:
I just moved from 1st gen ipad to new ipad-air. Great and happy! But, one thing I can't figure out how to do is to delete the pages/sites/apps that I have just used? For example, on the 1st gen. you could double-tap home button and past actions would come up on bottom of screen. I could then delete them one by one, to keep things cleaned up. Am I missing something here? Does it keep a log irregardless? Not the same as deleting history - at least didnt' work for me.

Close apps and not delete apps.
    1. Double tap the home button to bring up the multi-tasking view
    2. Swipe the app's windows upwards to close
    3. The app will fly off the screen

  • Music Gone from 1st Gen Apple TV after iTunes upgrade to 10.1.1 (4)

I use a 1st Gen Apple TV to store and play all my music throughout my home. It's perfect for that because I don't have to stream from my computer (as with 2nd Gen Apple TV) and can control the music from all over the house from the Remote App on my iPad and iPhone. After I upgraded to iTunes 10.1.1 this week I synced my Apple TV with my computer to add some new music to it from iTunes. All of my music promptly disappeared from my Apple TV. It may have still been there, but didn't show in iTunes on my computer or on my iPad or iPhone remote apps.
My first thought was that I might have to do a restore on the Apple TV and then re-sync with my computer's iTunes. Before doing that, however, I simply re-synced all of my music to the Apple TV from my computer. It worked and now all of the music is available again.

    had the same problem once
went to the appletv's settings and unlinked it with the computer
let it do it's restart and clear synced data
set it up to link with the same computer once more
and let it sync the data once more
    haven't have issues since
but described the solution to many in this forum who had the same issue

  • Ipod touch now frozen after trying to upgrade from 1st gen to 3.1.1

I've got a 1st gen ipod touch and bought the upgrade software from i-tunes to upgrade it to 3.1.1 so I can add apps to my ipod touch. It started off well but then just froze!! My ipod touch has the apple logo and a progress bar which is partly completed. I left it for ages and nothing progress and when I checked Itunes it said it was no longer responding. I shut itunes down and tried to restart it but it just keeps saying its not responding. Any idea on what I can do to get my Ipod touch back to 1st gen or to complete the upgrade to 3.1.1?

    - Try resetting the iPod;
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next connect to computer and try to restore via iTunes- Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow a restore. For recovery mode:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
    - If you can't turn the iPod off (e.g., logo, spinning wheel) always shows, let the battery fully drain.  After charging for an hour try the above again.

  • Lanyard from 1st gen works great

Well great news for me, the lanyard I bought for the 1st gen nano I had now fits the 3rd gen perfectly (after not fitting the 2nd gen).
How strange that Apple should lock out the more recent lanyard only to make the old one work again.
I wonder if they are going to start selling the 1st gen lanyard again?

If you first connect your new iPod to the same computer you uses with the old computer you should be informed that there is a backup of an iPod already on the computer and would you like to restore your new iPod with the backup of the old iPod? Just say yes and your new iPod will be like your old one with respect to content. When I bought my new iPod I restored it with the backup of my iPad and everthing applicable transfered. As expected, iPad-only apps did not transfer.

  • Upgrading from 1st gen iTouch to 4th

I'm getting a new iPod touch soon after my 1st gen has served me well for three years. But I'm worried about how and if I can get all my information from my old iTouch to my new one. Will I simply lose all the data I've added to the calendar, address book and a great deal of other information specific to other apps? Or can I back it all up and transfer it to my new iTouch?
    Best regards.

  • TS1410 My Mac recognises all devices apart from 1st gen ipod touch

Just bought a 1st gen ipod touch for my 2 year old to play games on but despite connecting to wifi and charging on its dock, it fails to be recognised on our MacBook, despite all our other devices being problem free!?!

If you are using the USB docking cable connected to the same USB port, when you connect the iPod touch versus the "other devices," the problem may dock connector on the iPod touch.  What are the "other devices"?
When you say "charging on its dock," is that a different power-only connection?  Or is that dock connected to the USB port on your Mac with a docking cable?  If it's connected to the Mac through that dock accessory, what happens when you connect the iPod touch directly to the docking cable?
If you have another USB docking cable, try it with the iPod touch using a direct connection to the Mac's USB port (no dock or USB hub).

  • Upgraded from 1st gen to 3G iPhone

i went to the apple store and bought a 3G iPhone last week. it took the place of my 1st generation iPhone. it works just swell.
but my first generation iPhone still connects to my iTunes and i can add movies i've rented from the iTMS. i can do everything with the old iPhone except make calls (no service). but it does connect to the home wireless network and it continues to get email and stuff like that. i don't believe it should still be synching with my iTunes account since i've replaced it. but never-the-less it's sort of like having an extra iTouch for my kids to play with and they can watch movies on it and not borrow my 3G. but i digress.
my 3G syncs with the same account and it receives phone calls and all of that just fine. but every time i plug it into my computer it acts as though i don't have MobileMe set up. i click on the Info tab of my iPhone in iTunes and it has a button to set up MobileMe. i don't understand why. my MobileMe is turned on . . . and i get new email pushed to my new 3G iPhone. it's clearly working and clearly connected to my account. yet, every time i plug it in it wants me to set it all up again. i've set it up twice and i just checked all settings and everything is just as the directions indicate, yet i can't get the "Set Up Now" button to go away -- and the button just takes me to Apple's website to a tutorial anyway.
does this have something to do with my old iPhone still working? was the Apple Store supposed to take my SIM card from my old iPhone and put it into my new one? they didn't, fwiw.

okay, this was too difficult for the masses visiting here. it was too difficult for me to figure out as well.
Plan B -- if i want to start over, do i reinstall iTunes? do i reset my iPhone? do i switch the SIM card from the old iPhone to the new 3G? my 3G currently just gets stuck syncing contacts. if i turn contacts syncing off then it'll get stuck syncing calendars. if that get unchecked then it'll get stuck syncing mail stuff . . .and then bookmarks, etc. if i turn off contacts, calendars, mail, and bookmarks then the sync happens just fine with music and ringtones and other stuff.

  • Upgraded from 1st gen Touch to iPhone 4S, now I get the beachball every time I connect the old iPod Touch

I recently upgraded my verizon cell phone to an iPhone 4S, and had been using a first gen iPod Touch, which is still quite functional and I'd lik eto give it to someone else in the family to use.  The problem is that after the first time I connected the 4S, now iTunes will hang (spinning beachball) everytime I try to connect the old Touch. Auto sync is turned off. I've even tried to create a separate account to no avail.  As soon as I disconnect the touch, iTunes resumes normally.

  • ICloud storage space used up by old data from 1st gen iPad I traded in nearly 2 yrs ago for an iPad Mini. Can't backup any info for mini or new 6 plus. How can I access this old data to clear it out?

My iCoud storage space is being used up by old data from a 1st  generation iPad I traded in nearly 2 yrs ago for an iPad Mini. The people at the sprint store where I made my trade were supposed to transfer everything over from my old iPad to the new Mini once they backed up the old device to iCloud. Well, long story short, none of the data ever got transferred to the new iPad, but it all got backed to iCloud, eating up all my storage space. Here I am almost 2 years later, and I've never been able to back-up my iPad mini. What's worse, My iPhone 4 wasn't backed up that whole time, and now I can't back-up my data from my new iPhone 6 Plus to iCloud either. Trying to find creative ways to store and save my information and data between all my devices is getting to be ridiculous. I don't want to upgrade my storage space though...just want to clear out a great deal of what is already being stored. How can I access this old data to clear it out?

The only way to access data from an iCloud backup is to restore it to your device.  You could, for example, back up your iPad mini to your computer using iTunes (by connecting it, opening iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Back Up and choosing to back up apps and transfer purchases when prompted), then erase it and restore the old iPad backup (as explained here: iCloud: Restore or set up your iOS device from iCloud), save any recovered data you want to keep, then restore your iTunes backup back to your iPad mini (by connecting it to your computer, opening iTunes, then going to File>Devices>Restore from Backup).
Once you're done with the old backup, delete it from your account to free up the space.

  • How can I transfer all my music from 2nd gen iPod Touch to iPhone 5?

When I connect my iPhone 5 to my MacBook Pro (Model MacBookPro2,2) running OS X 10.7.5 and iTunes 10.7 and try to sync, only my recently purchased music is copied to the iPhone.  Is there a way to directly transfer  ALL my music, currently contained on my 2nd ge neration iPod Touch (running iOS 4.2.1) or my first generation iPad to the iPhone 5?

It needs to be stored on your Mac and in iTunes firs before it can be synced over to your iPhone 5.
If all the content you want to sync to the iPhone 5 are purchases from the iTunes Store, you can redownload them all via iCloud directly from the iPhone assuming you live in a country where iCloud has gone live.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If it's non iTunes store purchased content that is no longer stored in iTunes on your Mac, you'll need to the help of third party software to help you get the job done. See this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Cannot upgrade 1st Gen iPod Touch to iPhone OS 3

My brother-in-law has a first-generation iPod Touch that is currently running iPhone OS 2.2.1 (I know, he should have upgraded to 3.0 a year ago). In iTunes 8.2.1, when his iPod Touch is plugged in, it identifies that there is an upgrade to iPhone OS 3, but that he must first download iTunes 9.2.1. After installing the new version of iTunes (9.2.1), iTunes no longer identifies that there is an update for his iPod Touch when it is plugged in -- it states that 2.2.1 is the most recent version.
We tried uninstalling iTunes and re-installing 8.2.1. We got the exact same results. We spent a bit of time on Google and these discussion boards, but couldn't find a similar issue.
Any ideas on how to get iPhone OS 3 on his first-generation iPod Touch?

  • What happened to the home screen button from 1st gen iPad? Can't close apps.

I received a 1st generation iPad as a regift. It worked fine until I erased and synced it with my iTunes and other devices. Instead of the home button, it had that little circle in the corner to get you back to the home screen (don't know what that's called). Now that I've synced, that circle/button is gone, and the home button doesn't take me home. I am stuck in whatever app or settings screen I open, and can't close it without a full reboot. I'm not sure what ios it was using before I reset amd synced, but now it is using 5.1.1. Is this the problem? Any fixes?

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • Deleting Photos from 1st gen nano

    Hey
If anyone can help me with this problem that would be great. Im having trouble deleting photos off my nano....the problem being I cant figure out how to do it. I have tried reading the manuals but they dont really give an option of deleting, so hence my problem.

Remove the photo from the folder that you linked to when you set the preference "synchronize photos from" and update the iPod. For example, if the iPod is getting the pictures from the folder "My Pictures," remove or delete them from My Pictures.
You may already be using this method of managing your photos, but a good tip to prevent all your photos going on the iPod create a folder on your hard drive called called "iPod Photos" or something similar. Under the photo preferences for the iPod, point iTunes to "synchronize photos from" and update from there. If you keep a dedicated folder like this, you won't need to edit your normal pictures folder just for the iPod and you can add and remove picture from it whenever you need to.
