ISL Ports (E ports) on MDS 9509 are showing Gracefully Shutdown

We have an ISL connection between E mode ports of two MDS 9509 Switches . (FabricA)
Upon Health Check I found that these ISL ports on both the switches are down and when I checked syslogs on both switches they show "Interface X/X Gracefully shutdown"
I checked the Cisco document for this error which says -
"The Cisco NX-OS software implicitly performs a graceful shutdown in response to either of the following actions for interfaces operating in the E port mode:
If you shut down an interface.
If a Cisco NX-OS software application executes a port shutdown as part of its function."
So no one has shut down these ports manually  and I am not sure what the second point (If a Cisco NX-OS software application executes a port shutdown as part of its function) means
I tried shut / no shut on these ports bt no go.
I need to know what could be the problem and its resolution.

Hi Vishwa,
Sounds like there is a problem between switches.  Look at a "show interface" and see if it is "error disabled".  I don't know the topology, maybe optical equipment or patch panel between switches?  You can look at the signal levels on the interfaces with "show interface fcx/x after the no shut.  The signal levels are not valid if the interface is not "in sync" but you can still get an idea of no receive signal.  Do a "not shut" on both sides and look at the levels.   Look for other messages in the logs at the same time and post those here.
Best regards,
Jim

  • 10 gig iSCSI port in MDS 9509

    Hi all,
I have a requirement of 128 port SAN switch (Director class)
    -          15 ports should be iSCSI 10g
    -          Rest 113 port should be 8 Gbps FC
I am planning to go with two DS-X9248-96K9 module and one DS-X9224-96K9 to meet 120 ports. But I didnt find any 10 gig iSCSI port which is suported in 9509/9506 chassis. Can you please suggest? I can see only GE modules like DS-X9316-SSNK9.
Also please suggest whether we get line speed in 48-Port 8-Gbps  Fibre Channel Switching Modules?
    Thanks in advance,
          Raghavendra

Correct...the key is that the 48 port line card has the 96 in the p/n.  That indicates is it a performance module and has the 6 port groups.  There is also what is called a 48 port 8 gig host optimized line card.  That one only has 4 groups of 12, in which 1 of those (4 total) can operate in 8gig mode.
The 24 port line card has 8 groups of 3 port...and 1 of those (8 total) can operate in 8 gig mode.
As for the 10 gig iSCSI ports on the MDS...that will probaly not be a feature that the MDS will ever adopt.  The MDS is an iSCSI gateway, where by iSCSI initiator can access a native FC target.  With the advent of more and more natice iSCSI targets, and the move to 10GE, the Nexus 5K is the swtich to use.  It can host iSCSI targets and initiators and provide 10GE for both.  The MDS is not a 10GE switch.
    -hope this helps,
    Mike

  • Yosemite 10.10.2 server app. FTP help. I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac folder. It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?

So I have set up a localhost area in my Mac. I have the new server.app and I am running yosemite 10.10.2 .
I have a program running in my local server enviroment that wants to FTP to my mac .
It asks for the server , name, password, port and path. what are they?
I am pretty certain that the Serveris "localhost",
Name is my macs name (like my-mac-min)
    password is "my login password"
    and they suggest port 21.
But what is the file path, lets just say my site is set up http://localhost/siteftp and is actually at my Users/Sites/siteftp folder.
Why cant this program connect to the mac.
Is it because they are both operating in the same localhost enviroment,
could it be my folder permissions are not correct on siteftp folder?
    Help please !

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • Child DC cannot Replicate to Parent DC, because of connection errors. MS PortQryUI shows that ports 3268 and 3269 are not listening,

I started a support case with Microsoft to help me with raising the our domain Forest level because i received a message stating that there were Windows 2000 PDC still listed in the database. These PDCs were removed years ago. The tech saw all of the problems
i was having with domain replication so that is where he started. running the MS PortQryUI shows that ports 3268 and 3269 are not listening, (TCP port 3268 (unknown service): NOT LISTENING) when run FROM a Child domain controller against the Parent
Domain controller. Between the 2 Child domain controllers these ports are listening.
The Windows firewall is not running on any of the controllers, i removed a virus protect client from all of the servers, although i didn't enable the firewall there either, but these ports are still not listening on the Parent DC.
I need help debugging this. I am not very familiar with network sniffers so if i need to run one i'll need some guidance. This DC only has one NIC, all IP addresses are static, all servers are setup like this. All servers are in the same subnet, on the same
lan, on the same cisco switch, there shouldn't be anything blocking this port from starting.
I looked over other post that show this same problem, but they don't give a solution. If i am not using the Windows firewall why wouldn't these ports be open?
Any ideas? web searches are all over the map on trying to find the reason for this.
    Bobby

Try running the below command on the DCs that you think have the ports blocked or all the DCs.
    netdiag /test:ipsec /debug > c:\dcname-ipseclog.log
Open that from the C drive and see if there is anything saying block or filters.
Also, just for kicks have you disabled the firewall service on the DCs?
And just for kicks have you tried enabling firewalls ports on all the DCs?  The KB is below
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555381/en-us
    Step 1 - netdiag results
Step 2 - disable the firewall service on all DCs if step 1 was negative
Step 3 - enable the firewalls on all DCs per KB 555381 if step 2 doesn't work
Let us know how it goes!

  • I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? Any ideas :)

I cannot hear any songs or movies from my laptop speakers - the headphone port works and a red light is showing from the port? The output sound settings are showing as digital optical only? I used the headphones in the laptop for the first time yesterday and have had this problem ever since. Any ideas

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck.  Try inserting the earphone plug a few times.  If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • My daq card PCI6025e' digital ports PA,PB,PC are in high state and cannot be changed even in MAX 2.1 testing panel and continuously output 5 volts even set for output.

my digital ports PA,PB,PC are in high state and cannot be set low even if it is set for outputs.
    Thanks

The MAX utility is the closest to the driver level and will eliminate software configuration as a possible issue. Please disconnect anything that you have connected to the DIO lines.
Use the MAX test panel for your DIO lines, configure them as outputs, and set them to a low state. Use a multimeter (DMM) to observe the line state. If it is still high then you may have a problem with your hardware. If this is the case, I advise calling National Instruments support and investigate a possible RMA (repair).

  • Port 443 and 80 are blocked in FolderShare

    Hi,
I'm using FolderShare to sync my iMac with a WinXP laptop, but it only works one-way. The Mac dosn't accept any connections from the laptop.
In the settings for FolderShare i can see that port 443 and 80 are blocked. I have tried port forwarding these ports to my static ip, but it dosn't work on the mac. FolderShare support says that this a mac problem, so i guess i have to open these ports somehow. Can you help?
I don't have the OSX firewall enabled.

No, it really shouldn't be the router, if you're both on the same side. Except...it seems that this foldershare might be using a proxy to work its magic.
(check router for any firewall settings, and disable them during this testing.)
I was able to make this work on a mac>PC and PC>mac on the same side of the router, but the folderShare settings test also told me that ports were blocked. (it still worked)
You know...I would probably start file sharing, and possibly web sharing. I have both those enabled on my little mini-mac. Enable those in the sharing tab, leave the firewall alone for now.

  • MDS 9509 - Mgmt Interface alerts

I am seeing the following entries in the logs for my MDS 9509 :
    2007 Feb 7 01:48:03 PORT 5 IF_UP Interface mgmt0 on slot 5 is up
There are no other entries in the log that the mgmt0 interface went down so why would alerts say that it is "up" ?

Looks like the mgmt interface has been bouncing up & down since Sept. What is this attached to? What does that log say? Is the duplex and speed the same on both sides? Can you replace the cable? Does the show interface mgmt 0 show increasing CRC and/or output errors? These are the things to look for. Try a new cable as it's the easiest and most probable issue.

  • How to install software on MDS 9509 Switch

    Hi,
One of our MDS 9509 switches has died. This used to be supported externally but has now been brought in house. A replacement box is due to arrive soon but I will nee to update the software to the same version that the old box was using and apply the config.
What procedure should I follow to do this? I've downloaded the following kickstart and image files ready to ftp across to the new box.
    m9200-ek9-kickstart-mz.3.3.5a.bin m9200-ek9-kickstart-mz.3.3.5a.bin
is it simply a case of running the install all command?
    Thanks
    Darren

Also you will need to install license same as on old and restore config. Hope you had config backup somewhere. Additionally you will have to update port security schemes (if configured). Once all done, look for any zone merging errors or conflicts.
    Good luck,
    Nisar

  • Interop problem between brocade 300d/200e and MDS 9509

Hi, I want to know if  mds 9509 can interop with the SAN equipment below.
If yes, can you help me to configure (VSAN and type of ports - TE or T or F).
I tried with the interop VSAN 1 and 3, but there is still no communication.
    MDS 9509
    kickstart: version 5.2(2d)
    system:    version 5.2(2d)
    and
    Brocade 200E or 300D
    V6.1.0J

You want Cisco MDS to be the principal switch, this is all explained in the FC standards.
The switch with the lowest wwn becomes the principal switch if the domain priorities set the same.
It is all explained in MDS config guide:

  • I have connected my macbook pro to my tv via MDP to HDMI port cable, all that is showing up is the basic desktop image without any icons, what do i do to correct this

i have connected my macbook pro to my tv via MDP to HDMI port cable, all that is showing up is the basic desktop image without any icons, what do i do to correct this

Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.

  • SNMP OID for CPU and Memory Utilization on a MDS 9509

Does anyone know what the OIDs are for CPU and Memory utilization on a MDS 9509?
    Thanks

CISCO-SYSTEM-EXT-MIB.my is a good place to start and you can determine the OID from the MIB.
Once you feel as though you are on the right track, have a look at:
    http://www.oidview.com/mibs/9/CISCO-SYSTEM-EXT-MIB.html
I gather that what you need is:
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.305.1.1.1
    and
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.305.1.1.2
    Enjoy.

  • Migrating from Brocade 2800/ 3900 to Cisco MDS 9509

What is the best procedure from migrating from Brocade 2800/3900/12000 to Cisco MDS 9509 especially connected to HP-UX and AIX server.
Without any Downtime I should be able to migrate these servers.
    I thought about these options:
    1. Use vgexport and vgimport or exportvg and importvg (AIX) after connecting to Cisco MDS. But this requires complete downtime on the application.
    2. Take one path down or HBA down and switch the cable and vgextend the devices.
Please let me know if somebody has procedure.
I was successful in HP-UX server using the second options but I cant see all the LUNs. That might be array specific problem also.
If anybody has detailed procedure on migrating this scenario. please let me know.
We are using Persistent FCIDs on our MDS switches.
    Thanks in Advance

After connecting 1 cable from server HBA to Cisco S/w, why you are not able to see all LUNs, did you cross-check that...I mean HBA Configuration (max 256 LUNs) or Disk Array library driver to be installed on host side.if that can be sorted out, you can mirror the volumes across the disk arrays.are you using HDS Arrays? I don't know but what is vgextend command you are mentioning...
also did you take a reboot of server or is it online addition on new LUNs...
Also any how if you are not able to see all LUNs that is going to be an issue later as well for migration...pls cross-check that...

  • Get user public key (ssh) from MDS 9509

how can get public key from a user on MDS 9509?

I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for, but to create keys for SSH, you will want to enable SSH like this:
    ssh server enable
Then, you can generate a key like this:
    ssh key
Or to specify the key for a user, it would be like this from the CLI:
    username ssh

  • MDS 9509 Memory

Can someone confirm for me whether or not the MDS 9509 supports a memory upgrade?

    G'day,
Are you having issues that requires an upgrade? :)
You could prob upgrade it but its not somthing that you can buy a upgrade kit for... :)
And... you prob wouldn't be supported.
To be sure you might want to check your local SE
