Isn't it Ironic ? Dont you think ?

I'm sitting at my kitchen table and my wife just asked me what was wrong?
I replied somberly that "I've just purchased some network management software from a network management company to help me manage my own network but the network for the network management company has stopped working and I cant activate the software (and the website was working great when it took my money) !!!!"
Links on the "support" page take me to a broken website - for one moment I thought I'd been scammed !
So it's rather comforting in an Ironic way that I am not alone.
I think Network Magic need to wave their Magic IT Wand, sort this problem out and send us all a free upgrade when they release v6!
Good luck everyone !

Funny thing Magic Mike....  My wife is asking me what's wrong as well.  This isn't how I planned on spending the last day of the long weekend.  Hopefully this gets resolved soon.  Until it does, go out and enjoy the holiday and I'll keep the following thread updated so you guys will be up to speed when you return.
Updates are here.

  • Apple,  this is getting silly dont you think ?

    How many people are having issues and cant listen to their music ? Yet no answers ? Can I get refunds for my music and take my business to a different company ? Now I can understand that it may take some time to get a fix, but at least let us know whats up... End of rant....

    NJRanger,
    "all the issues being raised" -- " MAJOR PROBLEM" -- "MANY CUSTOMERS"
    Your grasp of numbers and relative proportions is a bit off. Apple has sold over 30 million iPods and has between 15-20 million unique iTunes users.
    iTunes and the iPod work, and work well with the vast majority of the Mac and Windows users out there. There are various reasons for the inability of the iPod or iTunes to correctly function. One of them is manufacturing problems, but believe it or not, that is most likely the smallest of the problems.
    Other issues are:
    - Poor Windows PC environment
    - Interactions with other installed software
    - Viruses and Malware
    - Operator error
    - Inability to read/follow directions
    There are other probable causes as well. Just think. If the majority (or even 10%) of the iTunes users were having problems and only 10% of those found there way here, we would be swamped with over 150,000 individuals with multiple posts here. It's just not happening.
    Sorry you're having problems. But deploy 15-30+ million units of anything and any company is bound to have some issues. Many not of your own making either.
    "Man, was I wrong..."
    Very much so...just not about what you originally thought.

    Hi! i have a macbook pro 3.1 with core 2 duo, 3gb ram and a 10.6.8 version. I want a 10.7 version but i dont want any speed problems, what do you think?

    Some MacBook Pro versions cannot be upgraded past 10.6.8; others are maxed out at 10.7.5. newer models can go all the way to 10.10. So it is important to know exactly what version you have--there may be close to 40 variants produced since the MB made its debut in 2006.
    You can safely give us a snapshot of your model and its current config that will allow us to deternmmine your model and its upgrade potential, plus show it you have any software that may impede any upgrades. Please download and install this free utility:

  • I'm looking into buying a prepaid phone from verizon on the website..do you think prepaid is good? how is it different from contract?

    right now i'm with sprint.i really hate sprint..there service isn't good at all.my contract is up in 2 months.so ive been buying phones from all these prepaid carriers and there service isnt reliable at all.i just buy them to see how there service are..i know it sounds dumb.so anyways that's why i come here...verizon is known for being reliable..so my point is,do you think i should go with verizon prepaid?are there prepaid services good? do you think its a good idea to go with verizon? i just need some advice cause i was gonna port my number from sprint to verizon..so i just need people's opinions..
    i am done with 'contracts' so i wanna go prepaid..i dont feel like signing another contract...plus i travel so thats why im considering verizon.

    In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
    So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
    If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

  • Ok i finally decided what i will order with my new mobo. Pls tell me what you think...

    Ok i got the 875p neo Fisr pcb 2.9
    I have a p4 2.8(800) atm , but im thinking of ordering a 3.0 or 3.2 since i dont overclock much...
    Decided to go with kingmax ramm unless someone saiys else i got a reply earlier that someone has this and it works. only thing i worry is they dont come in a duel kit so im gonna order 2 from prolly a bulk load... pc3200 kingmax . newegg has them for 80 a pop. 512 meg a stick. one thing that worries me is they are rated at 2.5 volts and if needed to crank them suckers to 2.7 then i might change the memory order if you guys think that will be a problem.
    Got a bfg geforce 600gt coming from best buy for 399.(434 w/tax.)
    Gonna get a vantec 520 watt psu, has oveer 25 amps anthe 12, has over everythng LOL.
    I dont know what bios this new mobo is so i am wondering if after i install all if i should flash to the latest bios or not to worry about flasshing??
    Woot im finally getting close to ordering , only thing i might change is no pcu if you think a 32. from a 2.8 wont make a bigg difference , or if you think the kingmax ramm rated at 2.5 volts might give me a problem . Im afraid to go corsair or very low clas like 2. these are 2.5 . Im my last board the pcb 1.0 after i bios flashed from somethng ( i dont remember which i had i could no longer run in ultra turbo)Ohh ye i had 1.92 b at that time. but for some reason it worked . My only concern is that i wont be able to run in ultr turbo, i could still run in slow on my last mobo but i lost scores in all benchmarks. Well well see what happs this time.
    Ill let ya know . thanx for all of you that replied.

    the neo lsr or fisr should be great boards . mine kicked butt until i messed with it and i guess the flashing which i did correctly on my board didnt undo when i went back. So all with a pcb 1.0 if it works, dont mess with it. LOL . Worked great and was very fast .
    I hope the new pcb 2.0 is just as good.
    ohh that was geforce6800 gt not 600 LOL. Sorry im tired been up and stressed over what i should order...
    Im out .
    Peace !

  • Tell me if you think this looks like SIN CITY!

    I made this in After effects, but the colors didnt look good at all, so I brought it into motion to play around with, and with various blend modes, I made this look like the SIN CITY.
    I multiplied the clip, with the one on the bottom having a glow, blur and a light rays filter, then the cllip in the top had its opacity dropped to let some of the bottom clip shine through.
    Let me know what you think! This was a test for a short that I want to make...
    here is the link:
    http://www.mideagenius.com/sincity2.mov

    no CG, I dont know any 3d programs but im trying to learn lightwave. i used after affects, and took pictures of the sides of buildings, then assembled them into blocks. Then i duplicated those and comped them into another comp, and made a row of about 7 buildings. then using the z, y, a x scales, i made the buildings different sizes. then i duplicated the row about 5 times and made the city type thing,animated the camera and there you go. then i brought the rendered clip into motion to mess with the color and make it look sin city'ish.
    Im still messing with it to try and cut down on the pixel zipper jaggy edges. ANy ideas patrick on how to make the lines sharper? Thanks.

  • What do you think of new Cisco NSS 300 Smart Storage?

    Did you see the press release of the new Cisco NSS 30 Smart Storage?
    http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2010/prod_060910.html
    What did you think?
    More informaion about the product can be found at http://www.cisco.com/go/smartstorage

    I guess no one from Cisco is going to repond to your post Johnny.
    I agree with your thoughts, and was excitedly looking forward to Cisco's entry in the small NAS market and rushed out to buy a NSS326 (Equiv to QNAP TS-659) Unit.  I already own a QNAP TS-639 older model for 1.5 years and loved it - and expected Cisco just to make this even a better unit.  Which in some ways they have (Syslog and Radius features) - although as you've already noticed, elimation of QPKG application support which numbers up to almost 2 dozen applications that are not available on Cisco's version
    Unfortunately if you look on eBay, you'll see my NSS326 up for sale.
    To address your points (from my point of view)
    1) ROCK SOLID:  I've found the hardware to be just that (on both units).  Built well, and I'm sure will last for years.   As for software stability, - see next
    2) FAST FIRMWARE UPDATES:  It's for this reason that the unit is up for sale.   V3.0 of the firmware was a major release.  And there have been issues - although many/most of them have been addressed with still a few (somewhat serious) issues still lingering.   QNAP seems to be attacking these fairly quickly.   Unfortunately there has been 2 releases from QNAP addressing issues since Cisco's adoption of this unit since v3.2.6.   As you'll see in these posts, Cisco is not following QNAPs releases, and will be releasing their own line of firmware.  For me, this is a serious issue - and I wish I knew this before purchasing.  I feel Cisco is already 2 releases behind which includes many fixes to their current platform. (Also see QPKG note above - many missing applications)
    3) SUPPORT:  This is where Cisco excels and always has.   To start 5yr vs 1yr warranty, and of course Cisco TAC is one of the best in the world.  In contrast, QNAP's support quite frankly isn't great - although, it's support community for forums are excellent.   Unfortunately I can't speak specifically on NSS support since I haven't called them for this, so I'm speaking more generally.
    So it really boils down to whats more important for your situation.
    Cheers

  • So, what do you think I should do?

    So, I'm getting into computer graphics and 3D stuff. I have realized that the Radeon 9600 that is default in my Dual 2.3 G5 isn't the greatest for 3D design. I was @ the Apple store the other day and was trying out the different machines. I'm really impressed with the new iMacs that Apple just released. They had Final Cut Pro running with some content and it was really smooth. I was planning on eventually upgrading to a Mac Pro to replace my Dual G5 but I was wondering do you think the new iMacs are good enough for this kind of thing? I plan on using Cinema 4D from Maxon, and probably Blender.
    I guess these are my options:
    1. Sell my Dual G5 / 20" Cinema display and get one of the new iMacs.
    2. Keep my Dual G5 and upgrade the video card.
    3. Keep my Dual G5 and make do with it or use it along with my MacBook Pro until I can get a Mac Pro.
    4. Sell my Dual G5 and use my MacBook Pro with my Cinema display, Keyboard, and Mighty Mouse even though the resolution on the Cinema display will only be 1600 x 1000...and put the money I get from the G5 torward a Mac Pro.
    To be honest the performance I'm getting with my G5 is great with everything except for the 3D graphics. I tried the demo of Cinema 4D on my G5 and my MacBook Pro, and the MB Pro blew it away. With some of the animation demo content m G5 was running @ about 12 FPS. My MacBook Pro was running the same content @ full speed. The performance with Blender is actually pretty good on the G5. I'm not sure if it's the intel processor or if its just because the video card ***** in the G5. I don't want to go upgrading the video card if it's really because of the G5 processor. I have 1.5 GB RAM in my MB Pro and 2.5 GB in my G5. What is your advice?

    Congrats on the new Mac Pro, it was hard from reading your request if money was an option or not.
    I have a Guad G5 and love it, and I am running the NVidia Quadra card, and run Motion, Shake , Final Cut Pro, Color etc and it runs like melted butter.
    And I guess it helps that I have it maxed on ram..
    Cheers.

  • Why do you think you have to (a) add extensions I don't want, (b) change my home page, (c) move tool bars around, (d) lord knows what else, at every update?

    Well, well, well. Here's update #32.0, without any idea what to expect. (Mozilla is turning into MicroSoft Light.)
    So okay, let 'er rip. Now I have this thing called Nimbus, which I don't remember asking for, and I have yet to figure out how to get rid of it. Thanks for blessing me with more stuff I'm never going to use.
    And gee, another new home page. Great. Is it not possible to leave my settings alone while you upgrade?
    And looky looky, my toolbar has been rearranged. Joy!
    I'm really sick of this.
    Free and open source or not, if I wanted continuous screwing with my software, I'd've stayed with Explorer.
    And let me put the "Reload Page" button where I want to put it, not where YOU think it belongs.

    hello, firefox doesn't add any third party extensions during an update - this rather sounds like adware that is present on your system. please perform these steps:
    # [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems|reset firefox]] (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
    # afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
    # finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] and [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

  • Do you think my macbook pro fan could be broken?

    Earlier today when I opened my laptop the screen was black and it appeared to be shut down. I hit the restart button and when the screen came up it said that I had "shut off my laptop due to a problem", though I did not manually shut it down. It was working 100% fine yesterday, so I'm not sure what could have happened to it. I know it wasn't my battery, because I had a full charge prior to shutting it and upon restart I still had a reasonable charge. I was more or less ignoring my laptop's unusual pop-up until I noticed that my computer was feeling much hotter than normal, so I checked iStat pro to look at temperatures. The CPU temp was around 82 degrees or so when I checked, while I was playing a videogame, which doesn't seem too high but the area around my keyboard felt much hotter to the touch than normal. What is really concerning me is that iStat says my fan is running at 0 rpm, even while I was playing a graphic-intensive game. The CPU is down to 65 degrees since I have stopped playing the game, however I have heard that your laptop will shut itself off to prevent overheating, and I'm wondering if this is what happened to my laptop sometime between yesterday and today. Does it sound like my fan could be broken? There isn't an apple store very close to me and my warranty just ended so I'd rather work it out myself if possible. I don't believe it is a faulty sensor either as iStat gave me temperature readings for everything. If you think my fan is broken, do you have any advice or know how much it would cost to fix/replace?

    Good detective work.
    I don't believe that 80ºC is extreme for occasional use, but over extended periods of time, this can stress your machine. I beleve you should visit your local Apple Store. They can determine if the fan is broken.
    In the meantime, I could avoid:
    - CPU-intensive activities like 3D gaming for extended periods of time.
    - Using your notebook on your lap. That can raise its temperature thirty or more degrees.
    - Dust or dirt can choke the fans, increasing temperatures and even the risk of fire.
    Replacement of a fan is not very expensive, if it comes to that. You can also do it yourself:

  • What job is good for me? do you think...

    Hi folks,
    I can see that you are cooperating all nicely; a sense of community indeed. And all for the sake of it. Keep it going...
    Now here is my question:
    I love databases, in fact crazy about them :-)
    i am certified in oracle 9i, and believe to have received good training in SQL, almost from A to Z. (Sure i can do joins and subqueries :-))
    I have a general idea, a good one still i think, about PL/SQL. (not as good as SQL*plus though).
    If i wanted to have a job in databases like Oracle, what should i be looking for?. Is knowing SQL good enough for a job???
    Put differently: has anyone started from this position and found their way out as far as databases are concerned?.
    I do have other skills but wish to diversify my job search.
    Thanks a bunch,
    -a

    Hi Nicolas,
    You have a good point. If you do a job you don't like, then this isn't going to work i think. Sooner or later you get bored:-)
    My point was, however, slightly different: are there jobs where you can utilize SQL*plus as a major skills?. If so, what kind of job titles should i be searching for on HotJobs etc.?.
    If SQL*plus alone isn't enough, what else should i need to learn as far as database programming is concerned?.
    Thanks,
    -a

  • Do You Think.

    Putting Alot Of Apps On An iphone Will Make It Crash? I Downloaded 65 For Free And Plan On Putting Them All On There. Do You Think It Will Mess It Up?

    oh, and its a good idea to restart the phone after loading the apps on, some dont work if you dont (monkeyball wouldnt load until i restarted).

  • What do you think of this Design for Multiple Threads

    Hi Java Experts ;
    I'm curious to know what you think about this design for a multhreaded app i'm working on.
    I have a controller thread that (a.) creates threads and (b.) keeps a reference to threads that it creates (by sticking them in a hashtable along with the generated Id for that thread).
    When a created thread completes its job, it decrements the thread counter and removes its reference from the hashtable before it finishes its run method.
    Now here's the interesting part in my controller thread i'm creating new threads on the fly with this infinite loop
         public void run(){
              while(true){
                   try{
                        Thread.sleep(500);
                   }catch(InterruptedException e){
                   if(threadCounter<maxThreadCount && moreJobsToDo.size()>0){
                        createDomainThread();
              }//end while
    what do you think about this pattern ? My goal is to maintain about 200+ created threads running at all times with this pattern.

    jeff kesslerman's book says about threads
    "5.2.3 Threads
    The impact that threads have on RAM footprint isn't a problem for most programs, but running threads do need space to store their stack state, and the system- specific data structures do consume memory.
    Because runtime implementations vary widely in how threads are handled, you might encounter situations where the impact threads have on footprint is significant. For example, some ports of the JRE create a heavyweight OS process for each running thread. In an application that uses many threads, this means that thread costs, rather than class or object costs, can become the dominant factor in the program's memory consumption.
    You shouldn't avoid using threads-they're necessary in many cases, and generally don't have a large impact on footprint. However, you should be aware that the impact can be very different across runtimes. This is one of the reasons it's a good idea to measure performance characteristics under your program's different target environments. "
    Question #1: how does garbage collection go about clearing the stack state, and the system- specific data structures that consume memory.
    Question #2: in my situation, each worker thread's activity is not as brief as a simple server request. Each thread does a lot work and does a lot of network connections. on average I would say 100 http request - each of which can be easily blocked or delayed significantly. Therefore each worker thread may operate for between 2 - 10 minutes.
    Do you think thread pooling is useful in this situation ?

  • Which external HD do you think it's better?Lacie?

    which external HD do you think it's better in stablity and safe?
    Lacie? Glyph? G-drive? Imomega? or other?

    It isn't as easy as that, I'm afraid, music production. All of those makers produce a variety of models. personally I would be happy buying any of the LaCie, Glyph or G-drives, as long as they met my other specifications (FW 400, ideally FW 800 and an appropriate capacity) . They are all good drives.
    Assuming you want to use them for music then it is worth noting that the Glyph drives generally have fans, which might not be a good thing in a music recording environment because of noise issues. Some of the LaCie's do and some don't , from memory. The Iomega "Ultramax" drives look as if they are fanless but I'm not sure about the others. Iomega make some good stuff and some not so good , in my experience.
    The G-Drive looks as if it operates on similar principles to the OWC drives I mentioned earl;ier and I wouldn't be surprised if the ultimate manufacturer is one and the same.
    You need to bear in mind that most external drive makers are really just assemblers. They use components from different manufacturers at different times, so you really need to check the specifications for the particular model you are considering.
    But tell us more about what you need. Are you looking at a large drive, seperately powered, or a small portable drive powered by your computer, for example? What do you actually want to do with it?
    Cheers
