ISO install, frugal install, Live DVD no install? Need advice.
Hi as you see from my user name and the way I write the subject.
Only a complete newbie would ask such crazy question.
Not sure if the proper name is ISO install? Frugal install you may have heard of.
Live DVD or CD you have heard of. arch-live http://arch-live.blogspot.com/

I know noting about these at all. So if I forgot a more famous one I recommend that one too.
I only try to show that we all know they exist.
I will try one of them for sure but what I really want is a frugal install or a iso install.
I have iso install of Nimblex which is Slax Linux inspired? Isn't Arch also Slackware or Slax inspired?
so maybe it is possible to do a similar install with Arch?
Yes I searched the forum but only found ref to Frugalware and that is something else I guess.
So now I ask how does one do frugal install of Arch Linux?
Here is how my menu.lst looks like. it make use of grldr a grub thing if I get it.

Frugal install is a HDD install of Faunos USB Flash generated FaunOS system.
It is archlinux-based with 600 packages pacman capable and operates in the HDD exactly like it does from a USB Flash device...that is why it is called "Frugal", meaning minimal or cheapest or simplest(actually means with no change to compressed format in squashfs).
I feel the easiest way to get into archlinux is to install Faunos with a USB Flash device of 2GB, increase the installed partition size after install with gparted.
Frugal install creates the HDD version which is r/o, just like the USB Flash device is r/o.
Much reading is necessary to compare systems. In this case, "frugal" is a term used by the originator of FaunOS and is not a term applied to any other OS but FaunOS AFAIK.

I just purchased an iMac for home and went to install final cut studio 2 and it gave me an error saying something about "PowerPC" not used or something like that. Installed the studio upgrade just fine...but it has no "Live Type" which I need to work on projects I have been using in my Mac Pro at my work place. How do I get "Live Type" to install in this iMac? Downloaded Live Type upgrade but that won't update cause there's no "Live Type" in the applications.
It sounds like you have Lion installed on your new imac, although your profile says SL 10.6.8 (you may want to change this.)
If you have the Snow Leopard install disc I believe you can install "Rosetta" from the extras folder which will then, if you have the original FCS2 discs , allow you to select and install Live Type and LIve Type content only from the custom install options.

Ask the store for a local Macintosh Users Group / Club... maybe someone there can help you. You might check pawn shops in the area for a machine that has a full set of disks. Apple will sell/mail you a set. I don't know of anyplace to legitimately download them... For what its worth any commercial (e.g. full retail version) install of OS X on disk should work for your machine.

I keep getting a message that the boot camp assistant can not install needs firmware update. All updates are currently installed. I have tried all available updates and hey ell me the computer doesn't need them????

iMac at work, iMac at home. (Latest Yosemite and Apple Remote Desktop updates installed) Need to work from home at night. I don't know how to set my permissions so that I can just control my iMac at work.
If they have set up port forwarding for you already then that is different. In that case, then you could be experiencing the bug with the most recent release of ARD (3.7.2) and in particular ARD 3.7.2 and Yosemite ARD version 3.8 clients. It has been reported numerous times in the forums and to Apple that since 3.7.2, clients are frequently unavailable to connect to despite there being no network issue between the remote computer and client computer. I have not seen anyone report it who was working from outside the LAN to inside the LAN, but I have the same issue with a number of my own computers that are simply on a different subnet, so it stands rot reason that it would happen from a port forwarding location.
I am sometimes able to resolve the issue locally by SSH connecting into the client computer using Terminal on my admin machine and restarting or relaunching the ARD agent on the remote device, then trying to connect to it again after about 30 seconds.
The Terminal commands for this procedure are as follows, though you might need to include a port number from outside the LAN:
First:
ssh ipaddress -l adminusername
(example: ssh 192.168.1.1 -l macadmin)
Second:
sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -restart -agent
After that, waiting about 30 seconds and trying to observe or control usually works, though the computer may still fail to show an online or lit-up status indicator. -
Major Issues with installing 4tb internal. Really need advice please
In the process of a long needed upgrade to my 2010 Mac Pro Quad core 2.8 and have run into a serious headache that I really need advice on so I can get back to work. I've already spent 2 days dealing with all of this...
Just did a new SSD install and Migration which went fine but I'm also updating the rest of the internal drives. My main (non boot) drive was being upgraded from a Seagate Barracuda 3tb to a 4th Deskstar NAS (it was showing as compatible with my desktop, see links below). My 3tb ran fine for years but now due to it being heavily used I want to switch to a new drive and I can also use a bit more space.
The issue I'm running into is that initially on boot, my system was telling me it couldn't recognize the disk and it wasn't even showing up in Disk Utility. I had to purchase a SATA USB 3 kit to attach it as an external to get it to show which worked without problem. With the USB kit I was then able to partition it (GUID, Mac OS extended journaled) and format it properly. After reinserting the drive into my tower as an internal it failed to show again. After a few attempts of restarts and trying various bays it popped up but showed as a non formatted drive and I was told again that the system didn't recognise it. I was then given the option to initialise and was then actually able to then format and partition it though Disk Utility while it was installed as an internal.
Figured that was problem solved but when I went to check the drive and getting ready to transfer files over I noticed that Disk Utility was only allowing the First Aid and Partition options but not Erase, RAID, Restore which I'd never seen before. I then also noticed that none of the drive connection info was in the same format nor will it even provide drive bay info, connection info or read/write status (See screen shots). This is what I can't figure out and really need to clarify before I put full trust into using this drive.
Any info would be greatly appreciated...

I'm desperately needing advice. New Mac. Used Quicken on my PC. Researched all software for Financial programs and Quicken is still the most recommended. I want to use Quicken on my Mac. The Mac version is not highly rated so I would need to partition my Mac. Has anyone done this for their quicken program and if so, which partitioning program did you use - Parallels, Fusion ware or Boot camp?

Virtual Box is safe and well developed, it offers similar or identical features to the paid competition, it may be a little less polished but that's all.

Thank you.Thanks for the suggestion - but I eventually tried again and was able to contact via "chat" to someone qualified to help. The problem was that in my existing "bridge" - preference was (I think by default) - checked to startup in background on Login. I did not realize this - because I don't think I set it that way in the first place (maybe I did a few years ago) - and I could not see anything in task manager to suggest that bridge was running an application or any process - but when I learned this - I was successful in installing PS CS6.
Yes, I'm still not on solid ground re: whether or not I want to change from "owning" the tool or renting it -- what concerns me is that is sounds like regardless of users wishes, Adobe is headed in this direction and will eventually make it financially more feasible to go that route. At the moment I think they are "asking" for everyone to get on their bandwagon, but who knows. They have a powerful set of tools, that they continue to support and advance - and along with those development and support costs, they also would like to make a profit - so I understand if their past marketing model is no longer sufficient.

Is it possible to upgrade a G4 Xserve with an ISO image of a Leopard DVD?
I have a G4 Xserve (tray load) with only a CD drive. Leopard is on DVD only. I created an ISO image of the Leopard DVD but it will not work. Not sure why. I copied it to the Hard Drive of the Xserve and also tried it from an external drive (not booted from that drive however).
Any suggestions? Was trying to avoid booting into target disk mode. I only have an Intel laptop and not sure this would work anyway either.

LisaDid not work for me. Tried copying it directly to Xserve desktop, to a partitioned drive, to an external firewire drive. Nothing.
Sharing out the laptop DVD drive and booting to target mode did work, however. Very very VERY slow, like over 3 hours slow, but it worked.
All up and running now.

i have already download the media from vlsc and now i am unable to boot the media of window 7 pro

Make sure you're using an ISO burning software so that the image gets "laid down" correctly on the disk.
Simply, dropping the .ISO file into the disk and pressing "burn" will not work properly.
If you've made sure the ISO has burned correctly, follow these steps in this order:
Re-download the ISO
Re-burn the ISO
Re-burn the ISO on a different brand DVD
Try on a known-working DVD drive on a different computer.
Re-burn using a different burner.
If it still doesn't work, just throw everything out. -

There is no "world apple warranty" on iPhones. As paulcb points out, the warranty is only valid in the country of origin. You will have to bring it to the U.S. or send it to someone you know there to get it serviced.

Server 2012 R2 ISO download is larger than DVD, how do I install on a new physical server?
I have downloaded Server 2012 R2 (not the trial version) and the size of the ISO is 5.2Gb. I get 'disc image file is too large' error when trying to create image on DVD. How do I install 2012 R2 on a new physical server?
Does your server have an out-of-band management console? Those can generally mount virtual media that is simply a file residing on the machine you are using to connect to the console.

Exchange Server 2013 Missing file on ISO install Error Code 1603
Hi all, a mystery needs solving any suggestions much appreciated:
We are trying to install Exchange Server 2013 on Windows 2012 server.
The ISO File being used is: SW_DVD9_Exchange_Svr_2013w_SP1_MultiLang_Std_Ent_MLF_X19-35118
All preparation and requisites in place.
During Stage 2 Copying files, we receive an error code 1603 and installation halts.
The error states:
Installing product F:\exchangeserver.msi failed. Fatal error during installation. Error code is 1603. Last error reported by the MSI package is 'Source file not found: F:\Setup\ServerRoles\ClientAccess\Owa\prem\version\resources\themes\base\0\microsoft.o365.controls.timeline.mouse.css.
Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.'.
We have verified that the Path in the error is correct and exists BUT the file is not present within the 0 folder.
We have downloaded the ISO from our Action Pack resources twice and attempted 4 separate installations.
We have tried both Mailbox/Client Access and Mailbox only installations.
The missing file: microsoft.o365.controls.timeline.mouse.css. Hopefully the only file misisng???
Any ideas anyone, could we source a different ISO or copy of the file or ?????

bother trying to find the file but: 1) open notepad, 2) set save to "All Files", and 3) save an empty CSS file with that filename then place it in the directory indicated in the path given in the error. (Make sure it saves as
a CSS and not as a TXT.)
I reran the install and it completed without issue.
