Isolating a subject in product photography and placing it on a plain white background

Oh, I know, it should be easy!! If anybody could help me, I'd be very grateful. The sole purpose behind my purchase of PSE was so that I could take photos of stock items for my website, and then extract then from their background (usually my kitchen table!) and place them on a plain white background. I've spent all day Googling so I've got a vague clue about the options available but the online tutorials all go so fast, and the guys make so many assumptions about pre-existing knowledge of things like layers etc. I am starting from scratch with PSE! Is there anybody out there who can give me a step by step idiot's guide to EXACTLY how I can isolate stuff and put it on white background. For info, the stuff I'm photographing usually has some fine detail around the edges. Thank you SO much

There are several ways to do this. Here are two:
method 1:
- Use the various selection tools to select the object.
- Copy the selection to the clipboard: Edit > Copy.
- Paste the selection from the clipboard: Edit > Paste. This places the object on a new layer with transparent background.
- Add a blank layer and fill with white.
method 2:
- Use the various selection tools to select the object.
- Copy the selection to the clipboard: Edit > Copy.
- File > New from Clipboard. This Creates a new PSE file with the cropped object on transparent background.
- Add a blank layer and fill with white.
With both methods there are lots of ways to refine the selection, especially with fine detail as you mentioned, but that is a whole topic in itself. If you have a particular example you might want to upload it into another message or a new topic.

Someone thought this was a good idea to create a yellow pad look and handwritten note feel. Someone who doesn't actually have to read back their text when they work.
I changed the font to Helvetica, but I can't get rid of the lines. With my eyesight, it makes it harder to read and find things in the note. I really want a blank white screen as a background.

Use the color fill option - select the inserted .pdf and assign a fill color of white to it using the Color Fill Menu on the Toolbar or the Color Picker Palette.

Let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour try a reset (may not work).
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Then connect to your comnputer and try to restore.
- If the screen is still white then it appears yu have a hardware problem and appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have been billed for two versions of adobe products - Photography and the full version

Lense Choice for Product Photography

I have been working for a LONG time with my trusty Canon RebelXT. Sadly the last time I disasembled it to clean it I shorted out the flash battery and fried it.
So I have just upgraded to a 5D Mark II. I have been using for my work, mostly, a basic 18-55 and a 100mm Macro.
I shoot on a translucent table 24" Square. Everything is for white background. Often I am shooting glass or clear items. I usually shoot between 18" and 4' away from my subject.
I have been using the macro for the tighter shots on things in the 1" to 6" size range and then moving to the 18-55 for larger items and groupings.
The 18-55 will not mount on the 5D so I need to replace it with something that will give me good results in the set up I am describing.
I would appreciate suggestions on what lense would complement the 100 Macro.

Canon makes an EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM II - it's about $2k (list) - so the f/4 version (which also adds image stabilization) is about half the price. The f/2.8 version is probably not necessary for product photography since you control the lighting (you don't need the extra stop of light gathering capability of an f/2.8 lens) and you also probably don't need the shallower depth of field that the f/2.8 lens can product.
Incidentally, Canon is offering a $200 mail-in rebate on the f/4 lens, so you can get it for about $800 (I was surprised because the rebate on the f/2.8 version... which costs twice as much... is only $150.)

ZBook 17 powers on automatically when the battery is removed and placed back

Hi all,
I am an IT engineer with a 15 years hands on experience and troubleshooting skills.
2 of the laptops I own are ZBook 17.
One is a UK import (F0V53ET, manufactured in October 2013) and the other is a US import (D5D93AV, manufactured in April 2014). Both of them are running the latest BIOS revision (v01.21).
The strange problem I encountered is as follows:
At the D5D93AV when the AC and the battery are removed (i.e. for upgrading the RAM), when the battery is placed back in, the system automatically powers on. Same applies if there is NO battery attached and the AC plug is attached.
At the F0V53ET, this does not happen (and the normal is NOT to happen).
What I tried to do so far to see if the problem is resolved at the D5D93AV:
1) I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version (v01.21) at both the ZBooks.
2) Ensured that BOTH the laptops have exactly identical BIOS settings.
3) Ensured that turn on the machine while on AC is UNCHECKED.
4) Ensured that there are no power on options enabled (like the timed power on, e.t.c.)
5) Tried to disable settings like "USB charge, wake on USB" e.t.c.
6) Tried to remove the CMOS battery, press the power button with no battery or AC to fully discharge, attach the CMOS battery after a minute to ensure the CMOS was cleared and placed everything back.
7) Tried to replace the OS from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 7 Pro to see if it has an impact to the UEFI Bios settings (i.e. any conflict with Hybrid sleep e.t.c.).
8) Tried to enable "Power on while on AC" to see if the system behavior changes. When the battery is attached and the AC is also attached, it will power on if the "Power on while on AC" is enabled (so this works as expected).
9) The problem gets reproduced ONLY when there is either no battery and the AC is attached, or when the battery is attached without the AC (i.e. after reassembling the machine after a RAM upgrade). Then it powers on automatically.
10) I also swapped the batteries between the 2 ZBooks but the issue with the US model is not resolved either. The battery works fine.
It seems to be either a BIOS issue, or a Power Board issue (hardware fault). The UK model behaves as expected, while the US model seems to have these issues.
Any ideas will be really useful.
So far this is what I did not try yet (due to lack of time):
11) To attach the US model to a docking station and see how it behaves.
12) To disable or enable the Hybrid sleep from the Bios (instead of leaving this to AUTO).
13) To replace the CMOS battery (swap them between the 2 Zbooks), although I don't think it might be the battery as the US unit is NEW with 12 hours of use.
14) To completely remove (or swap) the Optical drives and see if the problem still persists. I know there are some really rare occassions that the Optical drive might be partially faulty and short circuiting. It may sound crazy, but I have seen and experienced this more than 3 times espexially at desktop machines.
Any info or tips will be useful, although I am afraid I may have to escalate it to the 3rd line of HP as it is a really odd issue.

Books on digital photography and iphoto

Hi,
Looking for a Christmas present for my dad - he's just got his first digital camera (at the age of 87...) and a new Macbook.
I'm looking for a good book that will take him through the basics of taking pictures, then having fun in iPhoto. But every one on digital photography I've found so far seems to assume you'll be using Photoshop, and all the ones on iPhoto assume you can already take photographs!
Anyone know of any books that do the basics of photography and iPhoto in one?

The best feature of digital photography is that you can shoot as much as you like and delete poorly composed images.
Get a tripod for the camera and your dad can just start shooting away (after reading the camera manual).
After twenty shots his "aim" will improve. After 50 shots he'll start thinking of composition prior to shooting. After 100 shots he'll start making adjustments to the camera settings (off automatic).
Get some rechargeable batteries and a charger so he can swap bad for good. I use a great "15 minute" version from Energizer.
As for iPhoto and the new computer:
Buy a book if you think it will help
Or connect the camera to the new Mac and watch iPhoto gather them in.
Once in iPhoto he can make additional edits (probably not needed) and make a slide show. He'll be telling all his friends to get a Mac and a camera.
I'm not suggesting your dad is too old to learn and a good book at Christmas is a treat. But I'll bet he would like a good novel over a complicated subject as digital photography.

IDOC for Creation of Production order and also adding components

I have a requirement like I get the data from a 3rd party system and using that i have to create production orders and also should be able to add more materials in COMPONENTS part of that Production order. I was looking for a BAPI which can handle this process.
And also can any one help me by letting me know is there any Message type available for handling this process of Production order creation and Adding extyra components to it.
I have a message type LOIPRO (for Production Order) and associated function modle CLOI_MASTERIDOC_CREATE_LOIPRO for creation of master IDoc, but not sure can i handle the Components part in this.

Im sure this is just because I added music into itunes folder but is there anyway to fix it?

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. Or try a search for, for example, 'convert wma to mp3' to find programs to convert them.

Open production orders and outbound delivery after go-live

I tried to search answer for this question but could not find answer.
Could anybody suggest, what to do with open production orders and outbound delivery after go-live when WM is activated. As, after go-live WM-PP interface will be activated and system should consume material from storage bin specified in control cycle and that will happen for newly created production order after go-live,but what about existing production orders how to update production supply area against work center in production order.
Similarly with outbound delivery how to update WM status after go-live.

Regarding production order yes, one way is to re-read PP master data in production orders, but is that the only way to handle this or do we have any other option?
I was aware of re-read PP master data but it will real time consuming and also if it will problematic for already released or partially confirmed production orders.
