ISP's Pulling one over on us ?

OK I have now moved from SKY Fibre (Up to 35mb) to BT Infinity 2 (Up to 75mb). At night I get 40ms and nearly 60mb DL 15mb UL. Rest of the day it fluctuates 40-70ms and 10-25mb DL 10-15mb UL
Firstly I think this is pretty poor:
1 - It should be within 10% of advertised e.g. 67.5-75
2 - It should be reasonably consistent throughout the day. Yes there is peak times but I think a drop off of 50+% is way over the top.
3 - The ping is actually quite high for Fibre. Based this on the pings I see a lot of you posting up and chatting with Toon.
Now here is the weird thing. I had a similar issue with SKY and one night they changed my profile. I got better speeds and they halved my ping down to around 40-50ms. What was strange is that before when I carried out speedtests on http://www.speedtest.net it would put the starting point quite correctly at Aberdeen and then ping the nearest node. But whatever they did it actually started the test from somewhere in the MIDLANDS. No I hadn't moved house .... I got the registered speeds and improved ping so thought .... sod it.
So now I am re-visiting similar issues with BT. I have been doing my speed tests and all started at Aberdeen ..... that is until I have complained and they "updated the profile" ..... and Shhhhhaaaazaaam ........ suddenly I have moved to CAMBRIDGE !!!

I strongly suspect this is a fudge by the ISP's. They start with the standard profile but if you complain they do some kind of fudge in their network to make it "look like" you are getting what you want.
Is there a way to verify exactly what your line is doing ?

Spoke with some call centre in India last night. He reckoned everything was ok to which i responded it is not. Was also concerned as he had no idea what a "Gaming Profile" was. Perhaps he wouldnt but they all know about the different profiles and interleaving issues on the sky BB support. Anyway he said he will watch it until the weekend.
Just tested the speeds this morning again and they are way down again. Last night it was 25ms 60DL 15UL !!! .... but that of course comes from me pinging to London from Cambridge even though i am in Aberdeen ?????
Is your router connected to the master socket or an extension socket? - I thought they would have sent an engineer for the install but said that wasnt required as i already had Fibre from SKY???

You may have a 30meg connection onto the internet but a page will only come in as fast as the server can deliver it. A popular site like YouTube will have very many concurrent users making page requests, and the nature of YouTube's content means that each connection is very data intensive. If you are trying to access a particular popular video, or if you are trying to access YouTube at a peak time when a lot of other people are trying to access it at the same time, like early evening say, then the server may be struggling to service all the requests hence you may experience a delay in viewing your video irrespective of the speed of your internet connection.

Pulling one photo from a movie??

i have a nikon cp8800 digital camera and would like to pull one frame and make a photo from it.can this be done with QuickTime?

Quicktime can export one frame from most movies it can display. One exception is that it will not enable the Copy function if the movie is in mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 format. With QT Pro however, you can export a single frame from mpegs using the Export Picture function. Since you haven't listed the format of your camera movies it is not possible to state with certainty if QT will open them.

I use PSC1410 and the problem is after finishing the printing job each time it pulls one blank page

I have PSC 1410, page is pulled at the begining and the check paper as well as the check cartridge LED blinks. To start the print job I have to wait for the page spool and after I hear the first page spool sound then I have to load the paper immediately to the paper try and the print job starts perfectly, after the end of print job it pulls one blank pageand the check paper LED blinks and I have to cancel the print job.

Verizon changed my plan to one over $1000/mth without my consent......

First, let me say that I have been a loyal Verizon Wireless customer for something like 12 years now.
I noticed that mine and my wife's plan went from around $140 per month to around $180/month in Nov and Dec 2014. On January 2nd, I called and talked with man at Verizon who told me that for some reason our two phone lines were changed from a combined plan to separate plans--that is why the cost increase. He could not tell my why or who made that change but he would only add a $25 credit back to our account and said he was putting us on a combined plan for $140/month with 10 gigs data. Great! I wanted more credit back but oh well.......
Then, I get a text around 2 weeks later that says my upcoming Verizon bill is over $1100. WHAT!!!!???? I immediately call and get a nice woman at Verizon who tells me that the previous gentleman that I called put me on an 80 gig plan that costs over $1000/month. She was very sorry and after something like an hour with her on the phone she said: a) the previous gentlemen who put me on that plan would get talked to by management, b) she would put me on that $140/month 10 gig plan, c)she would submit a request for the $1000+ credit to my account that would take 3-4 days to be approved.
Next, I checked my account balance over the next two weeks and called a couple of times and each time was told that the request would definitely go through but hadn't yet.
Then, I went to a corporate Verizon Store ( a one hour drive since I live in rural Montana) because I thought that a face-to-face conversation might help. I was told the same thing. The request for credit/refund was in and would be approved soon. I should be patient. It was their fault but it was a large amount so takes time.
Finally, I just got a text message showing a credit had come through. Only it was not for $1000+ that I was charged for Verizon's mistake. It was for a measly $125..........and my bill due is still over $1000. What should I think is going on?? I have a huge outrageous bill due to a mistake by Verizon putting me on a 80 gig plan when I use around 4.5 gigs/month and they refund me 1/10th of their mistake? Is this how loyal customers of 12 years are treated? Am I going to have to switch to Straight Talk? If I wanted bad/non-existent customer service I would already be with Straight Talk.
Does anyone know who I can talk to to resolve this? I have not gotten anywhere yet and am getting towards the end of my rope. Is there some kind of federal or state authority that can help me with this? I really don't want to have to get a lawyer to resolve this. Please help

Similar thing happened to me!! Only not as much money as that. Here's the story. I was receiving phone calls from a Jamaica number, each call I ignored. After several attempts I googled this number and learned it was a scam. I then proceeded to put this number on my block list. Well, since it was in my recent history, in my purse, for some reason my phone called the Jamaica number back. When I went to retrieve my phone it said it was on the phone with this number for over an hour. Realizing this I immediately called verizon customer service to tell them what happened and explained that it was not my fault, and that I don't want to be charged for it. The guy said i would not and if something happened to call up and they'll fix it. Well, when I received my bill I was charged $175 for this. I called up verizon, lady said bc it was an outgoing call the charges stood. I said no and talked to supervisor sherika anderson. She assured me that the charges will be dropped and she would just have to wait for approval (24 hrs) and gave me her email if I had problems. I emailed her, she never responded. Called a week later about the same problem. The representative (alan) said the charges will be dropped and I could minus them off my bill and just pay the remaining balance. I checked my online bill a few days later and the charges remained. I called yet again, told the lady the same story, she said she would just need to get it approved by her supervisor and they will be taken off. Spoke to the supervisor who said he'd give me a confirmation number. I received it. Yet AGAIN it was not taken off and I called again (last time) this representative (anita taylor) said that the previous records showed the claim was denied. I said well all the other people and supervisors told me that they would take it off and then why would they say that if in fact it was denied? I called a total of 5 times over this issue, each of them lying to me and telling me it had been taken off. Now I have a late charge for something that THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE OFF MY BILL. I think it is absolutely ridiculous to pay for something I didn't even do. I have been a loyal customer to verizon for 10 years. The minute my contract is over I'm taking my family plan elsewhere.

NAT and Routed Network with Two ISP's on one router

I'm sure this has been done covered many times, but I am not finding it.
I have two ISP connections.
With ISP-A I have a /30 between us and 200.100.100.0/24 is routed to me via the /30 for thsi example we will say the /30 is 1.1.1.1 on isp end and 1.1.1.2 on my end
With ISP-B I have a 100.0.0.0/29 subnet. and the ISP gateway is on that subnet at 100.0.0.1
On the inside of my network I have devices using both 200.100.100.x addresses and devices on 192.168.100.x that need to use NAT.
I would like all of the devices on 200.100.100.x addresses to continue using ISP-A as their gateway.
Everything on 192.168.100.x should use NAT and go out ISP-B
I have tried

The problem comes when I have default routes to ISP-A in the router than none of the ISP-B traffic works, and vice versa.

I think for this to work correctly and be able to split traffic between the 2 ISPs, you would need to use BGP, because default is going to use one ISP or the other.
If you can use BGP, this link will help you in load shearing between multiple ISPs when you have one router.

Pulling clients over time in Prime Infrastructure

Ive been trying to pull how many clients are connected to an AP hourly(to make a spreadsheet). The only place i can find this is in each individual AP, but it is in flash and you cannot save this. Was wondering if anyone have any ideas how to save this data or maybe a report that i am missing. Thanks.

One thing I hate about WCS/NCS/PI is the inability to configure a the report to suit your needs.
The closest thing I can see to what you're looking for is: Report > Report Launch Pad > Client > Unique Clients.
The report will NOT give you the name of the AP. Instead, it will give you the IP address of the AP, the MAC address of the AP. Go figure!

Can Pages write two numbers one over another, like atomic number and mass?

Is it possible in Pages 08 to write two numbers right atop one another like you do for atomic number and mass number? One a bit under the line, one a little over the line, both at the same place (not one after the other)? I haven't found out how to to it.

I'm a little hesitant to post this because it's so clunky, but I don't know how desperate you are to include this notation in your work so I'll throw it out there.
You may create a Text Box with one number over the other and insert it into your work, but it comes with a big warning. Here's an example:
Note the following:
o The Text Box is formatted as Floating and Object Causes Wrap is UnChecked. Warning: If you add or delete text ahead of the symbol, the registration will be lost, and if you reformat the document in any way, you may have to go looking for your symbol and move it back to where it belongs.
o The Text in the Box is formatted as Centered
o You will have to manually create space for the symbol in your text by using spaces, changes in line spacing or other techniques.
This notation is pretty rare, since the Atomic Number is redundant with the Element Symbol.
Regarding a math module, you can create an impressive variety of math notations with Grapher.app, located in your Applications > Utilities folder. When you Copy and Paste notations from Grapher, you'll have the same problems with registration, unfortunately.

SQL query requested to pull one field out of multiple records

We use Track IT to manage our ticket base. We have parent work orders and child assignments that I am trying to report on. What I want to do is create a view, or even if this can be done in a formula, is pull data from the main work order, which in our scnerio and accorindg to the database diagrapm is WORKORDERTYPEID = 0, It will pull the TASKS.RESPONS field from that WO. Then it will compare the TASKS.PARETNWOID to WOID and if WORKORDERTYPEID = 1 then it needs to return the TASKS/RESPONS field of that record, and there may be three records or so. Then What I may need it to do is organize it maybe into seperate columns so I can add each one to Crystal keeping in mind that it will need to link those records to main WOID of the parent so it will display on one line. Any ideas

Using the last column which is the workordertypeid, I was able to elimate the first row of data, which is the parent work order, but see how it is returning the technician name twice, where the second row returns me as the primary and then the technician on the assignment WO as well, which I want. In Crystal I have it only selecting the rows with the 1 is the last column, since those rows have the data arranged how I want them to be.
Once issue that just arose, is what if we only had one work order that we wanted to report on in the subreport. since the WO will get a 0 in the last column, it will never be selected in the report. Is there a way to either us a statement that selects it if it is the only WO listed compared by the WOID field, or if there is a way in SQL, to get what is showing in row 2 to be the only row returned back so I can then show all work orders regardless if they are an assignment

Pulling one worksheet out of workbook

I have a workbook that goes back about 6 years to when we were on desktop. It has grown to around 30 worksheets. There are 2 worksheets that I would like to make its own workbook. In desktop, all I had to do was select the worksheet and "pull" it right out to another workbook or to the desktop where it created a new workbook. Since in disco plus I can only have one workbook open at a time, is there an easy way to do make another workbook or do I have to rename this workbook and go delete worksheet 30 times? Also, if I wanted to add another worksheet to this new workbook from a different workbook, is the only way to do this is to recreate the wheel in the new workbook?

I asked out IT guy and they pulled the plug on desktop so that is not an option. What I did instead of rename and delete, I scheduled the report with just the tabs I wanted and saved that as my new workbook. Plus has some nice functions that desktop didn't have, mainly being able to export the query and then using excel to refresh my data without going back into discoverer.... learned that on my own. But I still say plus is a step back in time. Oh well...

Do i have to remove my creative cloud from both current PC's to move one over to a laptop?

I am moving from a PC to a laptop at work. i have a creative cloud license which is registered on my PC and anothe PC in the office. i want to move my PC creative cloud over to the laptop. according to adobe i have to unistall BOTH computers in order to add the laptop, then add the 2nd PC back on again? is this really the case or am I just getting confused? thanks

No. Once you sign out on one machine the license is readily available for another. No need to sign out on both.

Forcing a Mac with 2 connected ethernet ports to use one over the other

I have a G5 Quad and a Mac Pro that are connected to a large network (including internet) on ETHERNET 1, and they are also directly connected over ETHERNET 2 (using Jumbo Frames). I need to ensure the G5 uses ETHERNET 2, and not ETHERNET 1, to connect to the Mac Pro. They must use both connections. How do I do this?

I've solved the problem. When connecting to the other computer, don't map the drive from the Finder sidebar. Instead, go to the Finder, hit Cmd+K, or select Go > Connect to Server..., then type the IP address of the other computer's ethernet port that you are directly connected to. Then write an Applescript to automatically mount the drive on startup.
Example Applescript:
+mount volume "afp://192.168.1.1/"+
Compile and Save the script as an Application with none of the Options checked. Place the script on the remote computer (the G5 Quad in my situation) in a suitable location like the Documents folder for your Username.
Next, on the remote computer, open System Preferences > Accounts, and select the correct account. Select the Login Items tab, and click the + to add your Applescript application to the list. After adding the Applescript, check the Hide checkbox so the script runs in the background. Close System Preferences and you're done. Reboot the computer to verify it connects, and voila!

How can I put photos in the layers palette so I can put one over the other.

How can I take 3 photos that are in the project bin and place them in levels so that I can use portions of each photo, and layer them?

Open a blank, new file from the File menu (File>New>blank file). Enter the width & height of your paper stock, resolution 300 px/in, background white, or any other color. This will be your canvas. Ideally, the resolution should be the same value as that of your 3 pictures.
Open picture #1, and with one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, select the object that you want
Go to Edit menu>copy to place it on the clipboard
Go back to the canvas
Go to Edit>paste, and the object will be on its own layer.
Use the move tool to position the object, and to resize with the corner handles of the bounding box
Repeat for pictures 2&3
