ISP supporting MAC?

Hello!
I'm new to MAC and to this Forum... I recently bought an iMax Intel Duo Core and am now shopping around trying to get a good Broadband provider, in London, UK, which will support MACs!
Can anyone advise please?
So far, BT and Virgin would offer MAC support...
Thanks a million!

Hi Monica and welcome to the discussions!
It depends on what you mean by "support Macs." If you mean, "Which ISPs will work on Macs" the answer is all of them. If you mean which ones will give technical support and assist in troubleshooting, then that answer is a little fuzzier.
In theory, all ISPs are platform agnostic. They simply do not care what kind of computer running whatever OS is connected to them. Macs, PCs running Windows and Linux can all connect to the internet just fine. Most ISPs I have used in the States have limited knowledge of Macs and offer very little tech support.
If your ISP requires specific software to connect to them - and the ones I have seen typically do not - then they usually provide both Mac and PC versions. That software is usually just a quick setup wizard that quides you through what you could do yourself in the OS configuration and settings.

  • Re: PUSH Availability;  How Can You Tell if Your ISP Supports "PUSH"

Seeing my response to a earlier query may not be read by some based on the lengthy thread it is apart of, I thought I would paste it here for all to see which may help some of you determine if your ISP supports PUSH.
I had a call 3-wk's ago with an APPLE Applications Specialist regarding "PUSH" in general and learned the following:
    1. Not all ISP's (in my case Verizon), provide PUSH capabilities.
    2. Specialist dropped a few ISP's in the process and I don't believe YAHOO was one that provided PUSH(?) You will need to check with them or READ BELOW on what you can do to check this on your iPHONE...
    3. Mobile.Me provides PUSH as does MS Exchange Server's and gmail
    4. On a side note, there have been reported issues of "FETCH" not working as it should, whereas, it may not fetch at the selected intervals (15-min, 30-min, 60-min) and APPLE is aware of this
To CHECK and see if your ISP does SUPPORT "PUSH", do the following:
SETTINGS > FETCH NEW DATA > Scroll down to ADVANCED field > Select the email account(s) field you have activated. (if you have deactivated one of your email accounts, as I do with my MS Exchange when I am in my home office in front of my laptop, you will have to activate it in order to check its PUSH availability out)
... from there, you will note two or three available fields (Fetch; Manual or PUSH), with a check mark by one of them.
... if your email account(s) only show "Fetch" or "Manual" as options, then your ISP does NOT support PUSH (as my Verizon FiOS ISP does not), therefore, you are limited to only "Fetch" capabilities
... if your email account(s) show all three options (Fetch, Manual & PUSH) then your ISP "HAS" PUSH capabilities... as does my business related MS Exchange server indicate.

I wasn't aware that Google provides/supports Push access with a Gmail account on the iPhone - which would be supported when accessing the account as an IMAP account, not as a POP account. You can access a Gmail account as a POP or IMAP account, which is rare for an email account provider to support both.
You can access a Yahoo account on the iPhone via Push. When using the Yahoo account preset when creating the account, the account is created as an IMAP account that supports Push access.

  • How can I partition my external hard drive supporting mac OS in one partition and windows OS in another?

Hello everyone, how can I partition my external hard drive supporting mac OS in one partition and windows OS in another?

    OK. Start with:
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to two (2). Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Click on the Erase tab in DU's main window. Select one of the two partitions, preferably the first one, change the Format type: to MSDOS then click on the Erase button.

  • ITunes downloaded, but does not open-Windows does not support Mac script

I have recently bought a Toshiba laptop with pre-installed Windows Vista. I have managed to download iTunes, but I cannot open it. The computer posts a message saying that it does not support Mac script. I suppose that I need additional software (daemon tools?)? I would be grateful if someone could advise me in relation to this issue.
    Toshiba Satellite   Windows Vista

No, you should need nothing additional. I suspect you may have tried to download the Mac compatible version of iTunes & that's why your getting this message. Make sure you have checked the Windows version & nothe Mac version on the download page.

Does Adobe CreatePDF support Mac System 10 Leopard OS?

    Good day,
Adobe CreatePDF is a web-based service.  All you need is an internet connection, a modern browser and Flash Player installed.  You can see the full system requirements here: http://www.adobe.com/acom/systemreqs/
Note - The CreatePDF desktop printer, which is an optional install for CreatePDF is a Windows-only feature.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • Does Airport Express support MAC spoofing?

I'm using Comcast, Seattle which requires that I use a particular MAC address to connect to their network. In order to do this, I will need to get a router that supports MAC spoofing (i.e. setting AE to pretend to have another MAC address). Is this possible?

Sorry, but no. None of Apple's Base Stations, nor the Airport Express, support MAC address cloning on the WAN port.
If Comcast's system doesn't automatically re-register a new connection by power cycling the modem (as many systems do), certainly it should be possible for Comcast to manually register the MAC address of a new device cabled to their modem?

  • Y U NO SUPPORT MAC?

I'm quite pissed off after spending a few hundred euros on a device that i can't even update because i happen to own a mac.
You guys should be ashamed , it's not on me to go buy software just to run your software!

I don't know why is it that SE isn't supporting macs maybe because sony has it's own lineup of computers, the only options are
    1) over the air, settings -> about phone -> software update
    2) borrow someone's PC
    3) use Boot Camp install Windows 7 and then you can use your mac

  • United Airlines does not support MAC?

Please advise on this one, being that United only supports PC's?
Thank you for choosing United Airlines.
In the past we have been advised that our website is not compatible with Mac. Please contact United.com support at 1-800-589-5582 for additional information.

Mainly why would United say they do not support MAC? It is just a question.
It's a question nobody here would know, as we don't work them and can't speak for them. The site works fine, so there's no need in beating a dead horse. Log on, book your flights, and think nothing more.

  • How does Apple ship via FedEx if FedEx doesn't support Macs?

I just got off the phone with FedEx and they said that they don't support Macs...
Which is weird since everything I've ever ordered from Apple has come FedEx.
So how does Apple ship our via FedEx? Do they have custom software for label printer support, and if so is that available to Mac users?
I'm guessing there aren't a bunch of PCs in the warehouse... well I hope not.

Many operations are farmed out to consultants, 3rd party vendors, etc.
I believe Ingram Micro does fullfillment/shipping, not Apple corporate directly.

  • TestStand 2010 SP1 support Mac Operating System?

The TestStand 2010 SP1 does not support Mac Operating System?
It only supports Windows Operating System

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have been noticing alot of activity recently in the Test Engineering world for Non Windows Platforms for scripting which TestStand is good at. A lot of the industry is moving towards open source scripting languages such as Ruby and Python in which LabView applications and other programming languages can be called from. This means test applications can no longer can be platform dependent since Python, Ruby are not OS dependent. Those type of test applications can be run on Mac- OS, Linux and Windows, etc. with very minmal code modifications between them. For one example see:
