  • Compilation with packages is different in J2SE 1.4.1 ?

    Hi there !
    I've just installed J2SE 1.4.1_01 in my Win NT 4.0 computer.
    Some of the files that belong to packages compiled just fine with JDK 1.2.2 but don't compile with J2SE 1.4.1_01.
    The same is true when I try to compile Java2D in the demo\jfc directory.
    In project NumberFormatTest I have the following classes:
    =====================================================================
    d:\MyPrograms\Java\NumberFormatTest\NumberFormatTestFrame.java
    package NumberFormatTest;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    import java.text.*;
    import java.util.*;
    import tools.*;
    public class NumberFormatTestFrame extends Frame
    implements ActionListener, KeyListener, WindowListener
    =====================================================================
    d:\MyPrograms\Java\Tools\JCTextField.java
    package tools;
    import java.awt.*;
    public class JCTextField extends TextField
    =====================================================================
    d:\MyPrograms\Java\Tools\JCDecimalTextField.java
    package tools;
    import java.text.*;
    import java.util.*;
    public class JCDecimalTextField extends JCTextField
    d:\MyPrograms\Java>javac Tools\JCTextField.java
    compiles OK
    d:\MyPrograms\Java>javac Tools\JCDecimalTextField.java
    does not compile successfully with the error,
    Tools\JCDecimalTextField.java:67: cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : class JCTextField
    location: class tools.JCDecimalTextField
    public class JCDecimalTextField extends JCTextField
    pointing to the J in JCTextField
    d:\MyPrograms\Java>javac NumberFormatTest\NumberFormatTestFrame.java
    also doesn't compile with with "cannot resolve symbol" errors, when it tries to use JCDecimalTextField.
    It seems to me that classes defined by me to extend another class defined by me (JCDecimalTextField) and inside a package (tools) aren't being found by javac.
    However JCTextField is defined by me, extends TextField (from java.awt.*), is inside package tools and compiles OK.
    This stuff didn't happen in JDK 1.2.2.
    What the hell has changed with J2SE 1.4.1 ???
    My PATH has C:\Program Files\jdk\bin (among other directories)
    My CLASSPATH is
    D:\MyPrograms\Java;C:\Program Files\jdk\lib\tools.jar;C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1_01\lib\rt.jar;.;
    I strongly suspect that something has changed after JDK 1.2.2 in the way packages are handled by javac. I've tried searching in forums and other sun java documentation but couldn't find an answer to my problem.
    Can anyone please help me ?
    Any hint, suggestion or Internet site with appropriate documentation, would be highly appreciated as a means to end this 2 day nightmare.
    Thanks in advance,
    MGoncalv

    This issue has already been solved.
    J2SE 1.4.1 is case sensitive with regard to package directories.
    My tools package files must in subdirectory tools (but not Tools).
    This problem didn't happened with JDK 1.2.2

  • Older 2.6 kernels with ck (or beyond) patchsets don't compile

    Hello! I'm trying to compile 2.6.17 kernel with ck or beyond patchset (i need this one because one of my drivers can be compiled only with 2.6.17 and i really like ck). I can't play with abs because kernel's PKGCONFIG is too complicated for me (and actual probably has small problem when it's necessary to deal with 4 parts kernel names like 2.6.17.7 etc.), if somebody has one working  PKGCONFIG (any 2.6.17 with properly beyond or ck) i can try it, thank you.
    I was trying to deal with my problem by downloading sources from kernel.org (of course they build properly and work) and patching by appropriate patch from beyond or ck's page. But during compilation i always get errors like
    fs/splice.c:1381: error: redefinition of 'link_ipipe_prep'
    fs/splice.c:1302: error: previous definition of 'link_ipipe_prep' was here
    fs/splice.c:1419: error: redefinition of 'link_opipe_prep'
    fs/splice.c:1340: error: previous definition of 'link_opipe_prep' was here
    it isn't of course alway splice.c but it alway errors like that. My friend suggested that it could be problem with gcc4 is it possible? Or does anyone know solution for my problem?
    Big Thanks

    As you haven't been entirely clear about what you're doing, let me outline what I would do in your situation:
    - get the 2.6.17 tarball from kernel.org - that's 2.6.17 ONLY, not 2.6.17.y
    - get the 2.6.17-ck1 patch tarball from http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ … .6.17-ck1/
    - get the corresponding kernel config from cvs.archlinux.org
    - get the corresponding PKGBUILD and associated build files from cvs.archlinux.org (optional - only required if you want to use the Arch Build System)
    - build
    Actually, there may be a shortcut (just occurred to me while typing) - there are a couple of mirrors that archive old versions of Arch packages. They don't do all of them, but you might be lucky. They're listed on the "Downgrading Packages" wiki page.
    Just for curiosity, what driver do you need 2.6.17 for?

  • De-authorizing itunes? Several of my authorized pc's have died, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

    Several of my authorized pc laptops and desktops have completely died over the years, and have no way to deauthorize iTunes on them. Now I am unable to synch purchases on my Iphone to new computer with iTunes because I already have 5 computers authorized. What can be done?

    Deauthorise all to reset to zero, then authorize again.
    Following quote from Apple Support:
    If you need to authorize your new computer and are unable due to already having five authorized computers, you can deauthorize all computers by doing the following:
    Click iTunes Store on the left side of iTunes.
    If you're not signed in to the store, click the Account button, then enter your account name and password.
    Click the Account button again (your Apple ID appears on the button), enter your password, and then click View Account.
    In the Account Information window, click Deauthorize All.
    Note: You may only use this feature once per year. The Deauthorize All button will not appear if you have fewer than two authorized computers. If you need assistance on using this feature, please contact iTunes Store support via email (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/).

  • I bought an apple iPod 5th generation the other day and I cannot remember the unlock passcode. I have done the restore thing, but because I never set it up or synced it with iTunes, it does not recognize my device. It is disabled for one hour. Please help

    I bought an apple iPod 5th generation the other day and I cannot remember the unlock passcode. I have done the restore thing, but because I never set it up or synced it with iTunes, it does not recognize my device. It is disabled for one hour. There's only a few things that could be my passcode, but because it disables for an hour, it is time consuming trying to figure it out. What do I do? I do not care about having to erase everything since it's new and there's nothing on it, but it was never synced with iTunes.

    Disabled
    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
    iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
    If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
    How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
    You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

    My computer is asking to update Firefox. How can I find out if this will update to 4.0? I don't want 4.0 because I did it before and it wouldn't work with a game I play. I want to update if necessary. What info do I need to provide to get an answer to this question?

    It should tell you what version it is trying to update to. There is an update to Firefox 3.6.16 available. If you prefer you can download and run the Firefox 3.6.16 installer available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • HT204053 My husband and I both have iPhones but we only have one iPad. We use the same apple ID because we also share the same email address. How would this work with iCloud because we don't share the same contacts?  Thanks Elainecontacts

    My husband and I both have an iPhone and we share an iPad. We also share the same email address so how would this work with iCloud because we don't share all the same contacts?
    Thanks

    An icloud account is designed to be used by one user.  That user can have all his/her devices synced with the same Apple data (email, contacts, calendars, notes, reminders, etc.) .  When two people use the same account, then problems usually occur when one user edits data that the other user doesn't want changed on their device.  You can continue sharing the same ID for the itunes account in order to share the purchased music, apps, etc.  itunes accounts and icloud accounts are different.
    It's by far better that each user has his/her own icloud account.

  • I need to replace firefox 4.0.1 with firefox 3.6 because my add ins don't work with 4.0

    Question
    i need to replace firefox 4.0.1 with firefox 3.6 because my add ins don't work with 4.0 but will work with 3.6. How do I accomplish this?

    Any particular add-on? Maybe there's an updated version or substitute?
    If you can't find a solution with Firefox 4, here's the process to roll back:
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, download and save Firefox 3.6 to your desktop for future installation. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all-older
    Close Firefox 4.
    You could install Firefox 3.6 over it (many have reported success) or you could uninstall Firefox first. If you uninstall, do not remove your personal data and settings, just the program.
    Unless you have installed an incompatible add-on, Firefox 3.6 should pick up where you left off. If there are serious issues, please post back with details.
    Note: I haven't actually tried this myself!

  • I bought an unlocked iphone 5s with full paid but what i got is "SIM Not Valid". Don't know this is because of Apple or Sprint problem?

    I bought an unlocked iphone 5s with full paid but what i got is "SIM Not Valid". Don't know this is because of Apple or Sprint problem? It suppose to be unlocked and allow me to use any carrier worldwide. What is going on? What should i do? Return a phone and get refund?

    If you purchased a Sprint iPhone, you DID NOT purchase an unlocked iPhone. All Sprint iPhones are carrier locked to Sprint, & Sprint will only authorize the unlocking of the sim slot for current customers using the phone on their network. If you are not a current customer, using that phone on Sprint's network, you wasted your money, as Sprint will not authorize the unlocking of the sim slot.
    So, it the above is the case with you, yes, return the phone for a refund, if you still can.

    Then there's of course the config, it's based on kernel26 at the moment,.
    I'm building it now, to test. I had to install icc manually because the AUR package for icc didn't work for me. I had to install icc manually (run the installer), but that wasn't enough. Before makepkg, you have to add the icc to $PATH e.g.
    PATH=$PATH:/opt/intel/Compiler/11.1/064/bin/intel64
    and execute iccvars_intel64.sh which is in that folder.

    Ashren wrote:So there is a significant performance gain with ICC? Compilation time wise or?
    icc kernel compiles in similar time as gcc kernel, or if there any differences these may be negligible. To be honest I was not really interested in compiling times (was doing somethig else as it takes ~12 min on my system to finish kernel compilation), but rather with overall kernel performance. This is not the same as OS performance, but I am planning to compile firefox with icc and maybe some other stuff (if I am bored enough).
    If you have 32-bit OS (I have no idea how it will work on 64-bit), try it. I can't post PKGBUILD for 32-bit icc kernel because I don't use PKGBUILD for kernels or nvidia as I have found it limiting/cumbersome/unnecessary (while PKGBUILDs work great for anything else on Arch).
    The only part really annoying is intel server speed. Downloading icc sources (710MB for 32-bit only) tahes two hours. If you try to get 32/64bit sources even longer (1GB download).
    32-bit icc PKGBUILD package requires only one modification related to Release Notes otherwise makepkg will fail. Once installed export icc path, edit kernel Makefile and change one line related to compiler: change gcc to icc. You can also add some compiling optimizations.
    Pretty easy if you did compile kernel before.
    note added:
    actually combination of icc and zen seems to have nice effect on desktop responsiveness (this is 2.6.33)

  • NoSuchMethodError compiling with 1.4 and running on 1.3

    Hi community,
    I have a little problem with code like the following when mixing both JDK versions:
    StringBuffer sb1 = new StringBuffer();
    sb1.append(new StringBuffer());In 1.3 this is linked to append(Object) and in 1.4 to the newly added append(StringBuffer) which does not exist in 1.3. The code compiles fine with both versions, but if compiled under 1.4 and run in 1.3 this throws NoSuchMethodError(as it should, of course).
    I understand why it is so, the question is if there is an easy way to overcome this problem. I played with the target option of javac without success(javap shows it is always linked as stated), also I read a bit in the JLS to make sure I am right why the exception is thrown.
    I see the following choices:
    1. Compile with 1.3. Not a good idea because all other our products are developed and run in 1.4;
    2. Ask the customers to upgrade to 1.4. There is some their reason for which they still stick to 1.3 and don't want to upgrade, we can't force them do it;
    3. Find such places in code and explicitly cast. But who will know what other cases like the above exist in the code. I can find where append(StringBuffer) is used in the code, but what about other methods of other JDK classes? And it is a bad idea because somewhere in time it will anyway run with 1.4.
    My question is if there is another easier option that I am missing at the moment.
    Thanks for you time and cooperation
    Mike

    Why is option 1 bad? You will be able to run it in 1.4 even if you compiled it using 1.3, so I don't see the problem? It will never run in 1.3 if you can't compile it in 1.3.Because it will always be a source of errors. Always there will be someone that will not set up their project to use 1.3 for compile or will deconfigure it while working with the other projects. Besides that as I stated source compiles fine in both versions, I don't have a compiletime problem, but a runtime one.
    I know this is the most reasonable option, I know what I would choose among the three listed above, I needed some confirmation if I have missed an option.
    and you are correct about the target flagI only mentioned the target tag just as one of the directions of my search, we always whine for others not putting effort in their problems ;)
    Thanks for opinions
    Mike

  • Latest  32-bit Java 7 compiled with /LARGEADDRESSAWARE?

    While searching around, I didn't have a whole lot of success getting a clear answer, thus I appeal to this forum...
    A customer of ours wants to continue using the 32-bit Java 7 VM on 64-bit Windows 2008, but would like to use as large a heap as possible. Has the Windows 32-bit Java 7 VM been compiled with /LARGEADDRESSAWARE? Is there any documentation about this?
    Thanks,
    -- Jim C

    The 32-bit JVM for Windows is not compiled with LARGEADDRESSAWARE, and based upon recent space optimizations with Java 7, is likely not to be anytime soon. In the past, some avoided the 64-bit JVM if they didn't need the extra heap space because it incurred significant memory overhead. That is not necessarily the case now. In fact Oracle recommends using the 64-bit JVM even if your heap requirements don't exceed 4GB. Why?
    1. The 64-bit JVM will automatically use 32-bit references on the heap when its size is below 4GB. The command-line switch -XX:+|-UseCompressedOops, available in Java 7, enables/disables this mode and by default is on. Not all internal pointers will be 32-bit, but nonetheless your application running in 64-bit mode should be much smaller than previous 64-bit versions. For a technical description, check out this article:
    https://wikis.oracle.com/display/HotSpotInternals/CompressedOops
    2. The 64-bit JVM has access to more registers and hence more opportunities for performance optimizations. This helps generate faster code.

  • Building regular DLL based on static libs compiled with _AFXDLL

    I am trying to build a regular DLL that depends upon a set of static libs I get from elsewhere. The static libs are compiled with _AFXDLL and _AFXEXT and /MD. (The static libs are used by a different application that uses shared MFC libs.)
    I can link the dll, but when it runs it fails to find CRuntimeType information for classes in those static libs. Specifically, some source in the static libs is calling:
    AFX_MODULE_STATE *afxs = AfxGetModuleState();
    and looking thru the afxs->m_classList which happens to be NULL. (There should be lots of classes there.)
    Currently my regular DLL is linking agains the static MFC libs.
    To be clear, I do not want to export any MFC classes from my dll, the MFC classes are only used internally by the static libs I'm linking my dll against. That's why I am using a regular (not mfx extension) dll.
    Do I need to link my dll with shared mfc? I have a fair amount of exported functions. I would have to add
    AFX_MANAGE_STATE(AfxGetStaticModuleState( ))
    to every exported function right?

    Ok, I've tried a few things and I know more of what's going on.
    I linked my dll with the shared mfc (_AFXDLL) and added the AFX_MANAGE_STATE(AfxGetStaticModuleState( )) to some of the exported functions to try it out. It switches to the dll's AFX_MODULE_STATE alright, but the class list is empty. If I break in the CWinApp initializer (before any exported functions are called) for the dll, the class list is there. So where did it go?
    Well I stepped thru in the debugger and here's what's happening:
    _CRT_INIT creates the AFX_MODULE_STATE for the dll and AfxClassInit() gets called lots of times to add the runtime class info. Looks like this is being done by static constructors in the static libs I'm linking my dll against. So far so good.
    Then after that, InternalDllMain comes along and calls AfxInitExtensionModule( state, ... )
    Here's the problem, AfxInitExtensionModule, in addition to modifing it's state argument like you would expect it to, it also has this curious line:
    pModuleState->m_classList.m_pHead = pModuleState->m_pClassInit;
    where pModuleState is the current (dll's) state. So my class list is wiped out because the m_pClassInit slot is NULL. The AFX_MODULE_STATE constructer sets the m_pClassInit member to NULL. Looks like it's supposed to be some kind of backup so I have no clue what AfxInitExtensionModule is doing what it's doing.
    Is this a bug or do I still not have something set up right???
