ISScript.msi old.  Quicktime won't intialize

I have downloaded the .msi file needed for the installation of itunes but the program still looks for it. Now Quicktime won't work at all. Help!!!

I found an answer to this question!!(with help!!)
go here:
http://www.devhardware.com/forums/software-27/new-itunes-and-quicktime-problems- 97797.html
(click on the first url about a windows install clean up)
and download it then open the program and delete any old quicktime traces (for me it said quicktime 7.0.4 but it could be any old quicktime) after deleting it then try and download itunes (or just quicktime... doesn't matter) and if it still won't let u then u are on ur own

  • Quicktime and ISScript.msi Error

While trying to install the newest Itunes (7.0.0.70) I recieve an error about my ISScript.msi is older than the version required to run this setup.
The same error with the stand alone Quicktime (7.1.3.100)
Asking google had me [ Right Click the .exe -> Properties -> Version ] to check which ISScript.msi was required. I followed the link to version 7 and had no success with that. I also tried version 8 and version 9 with no results. Tried each of them by them selves, all 3 installed at once, and with deleting my old verion of ISScript.
Any huge things I've missed or simple solutions other than to keep using my old version or wait for a new one?

What worked for me - part of it was a tip on another
similar message (I did a search for "isscript.msi"
and limited it to the Windows forums - something like
    15 messages.
Anyway, what I did was run the "Windows Installation
Clean-up" program - you can find it at microsoft.com.
I had it clean-up Itunes and Quicktime - it basically
uninstalls them. It just uninstalls the program -
your music & other files are left untouched. I then
ran the new iTunes setup and it went through without
    a hitch.
I had tried the tips for going to Installshield and
installing all the various versions up to version 11
with absolutely no luck in getting iTunes to install
    successfully.
What tipped me off was someone posted that the iTunes
7 setup needs the isscript to uninstall the earlier
setups of iTunes and QuickTime, but for version 7 &
above, Apple's not using Installshield's isscript. So
then I thought that if version 7's going to uninstall
the prior versions anyway, what did I have to lose by
doing the Windows Installation Clean-up? Worst case
was version 7 wouldn't install, and then I'd just
    reinstall version 6.
But it worked - what a relief! I was able to download
& install version 7 perfectly on my laptop on the day
it became available, but in the ensuing several
weeks, I had absolutely no luck getting it installed
on my desktop computer, which is where the bulk of my
    music library's installed.
Thanks a lot for the info. It worked for me and ended a week of frustration. Wouldn't you think Apple would supply the software to do this when you purchase the product.
    Thanks again
    Dave

  • Isscript.msi too old?

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing iTunes, I tried installing older versions of iTunes... I update my Windows Software faithfully!!!
I've tried upgrading the windows intaller, but my computer says I have the latest...
    I have Windows XP...
I bought my daughter a nano for her b-day w/a $25 gift certificate, we were able to use the software and redeem it, but when we try to purchase songs I am told to upgrade to iTunes 7.0.2, so I do, then I get an error message that my isscript.msi is too old, which I figured out is the Windows Installer and I have 11, which is the latest version of Windows Installer, I am so frustrated...
When I go into my add/remove programs it says that I have version 3.1 Windows Installer, I am afraid to delete it b/c it says that it is used by other programs.

  • QT Pro and 10.5.1 won't play my old Quicktime Videos

I have a selection of old Quicktime files on my external hard drive, they have all played perfectly well on the old systems of Quicktime, however my Quicktime and Pro were recently updated to the 7 version, and my OS was updated to Leopard.
Now Quicktime tells me that it does not have the correct parts or codecs to play the video, and only shows me a blank screen. Sometimes the sound plays, sometimes it doesn't. Why isn't it working now, when it has worked so well for me in the past?

But to answer your question, you might be able to create a ISO of the DVD and burn that to a new DVD.
    Insert your DVD.
    Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app.
In the left side of the window, select the “DVD”.
Click “New Image” from the Disk Utility toolbar and select where you want to save the temporary image. For “Image Format”, choose “DVD/CD master” and for “Encryption”, choose “none”.
The image extension in the “Save As” box will be .cdr (this is what you want) — click “Save”.
Once the temporary image is created, it will show up on the left side of the Disk Utility window. Select it.
Insert a blank DVD (I prefer Verbatim discs).
Click “Burn” from the Disk Utility toolbar.
Another problem could be that you burned the DVD using a codec that your new machine doesn't have.
Install Perian, VLC and Flip4Mac, that combination will play anything.
Also install Flash for web content and Silverlight for Netflix.

  • ITunes 8 - isscript to old?

I tried to install iTunes 8 but every time it gets to "+validating install+" a window pops up that says +"1: The InstallScript engine on the machine is older than the version required for this set up. If available please install the latest version of ISScript.msi or contact your support personell for further assistance."+
I have the latest version but it still says that.

Are you upgrading from a very old version of iTunes? Installshield hasn't been used since version 6 of iTunes.
SO you installed Installshield version 11?
    http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322
If installing the most up to date Installshield didn't work, try doing a manual removal of iTunes with installer clean up.
Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program – you have to run it to install the program.
To run the program – All Programs>>Windows Install Cleanup
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
*If you hit a problem with one of the uninstalls don't worry*, carry on with the deleting of files and folders as directed in the method.
When you get to deleting Quicktime files in the system32 folder as advised in the method, you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart your PC.
Run the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility. (Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up)
Remove any references you find to the programs you removed - strictly speaking you only need to worry about those programs where the uninstall failed.
If you don’t see an entry for one of the programs that did not uninstall, look out for blank entries or numeric entries that look like version numbers e.g. 7.x for Quicktime or 1.x for Bonjour.
    restart your PC
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check that it works.
    If it does, install iTunes.

  • ITunes and QuickTime won't start

    Hi!
The problem is that I've installed iTunes, everything went fine, but when I'm trying to start it with iTunes.exe, it won't start.
I can see iTunes.exe in the task manager, for about 5 seconds, and then it disappears.
The same happens with QuickTime player(I don't really care about QuickTime but I thought it can help solving the problem).
I know there is a lot of topics about this on the internet, and yes I've googled it, but nothing solved my problem.
I tried a lot of things already:
    * start iTunes.exe with administrator rights
    * start iTunes.exe with XP and Vista compatibility modes
    * reinstall iTunes with XP and Vista compatibility modes
    * uninstall iTunes (and any other apple software), clean any leftover iTunes registry entry, and then reinstall everything again
    * boot my windows 7 in safe boot mode, and try to start iTunes.exe
    * turn off bonjour service then restart computer and try to start iTunes
    * create a new user account, login and try to start iTunes
Nothing helped on Windows 7 32bit, though I have a Windows XP installed as a Virtualbox guest(the host OS is linux), and there is everything works fine, but I would like to use Windows 7.
I had the same problem with the previous version of iTunes. Now I'm trying to install the latest iTunes downloaded from the Apple's site.
I would really appreciate any suggestions!
    Regards,
    Ferenc Nagy
p.s.: Sorry for my english, I hope you can understand me!

Many thanks. Yes, let's first try uninstalling the ACE pack and seeing if iTunes will launch now.
If iTunes doesn't launch, the pack may have left behind old QuickTime version 6.x componentry in unorthodox locations in your Windows 7 system files. So we'll go looking for that.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. From the Start menu, click Computer.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now, in Computer, open your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "System32" folder.
What files or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file or folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

iTunes won't run either, but I'm guessing this is due to the Quicktime issue? I've tried uninstalling both and just installing standalone Quicktime but it still won't run.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Perfect, thanks.
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Unknown module for iTunes, QuickTime not launching either ... nowadays the first thing I check for with that combo is if another application (other than QuickTime) has dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on your PC.
First we'll adjust some view settings on the PC.
    1. From the Start menu, click Open.
    2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.

  • Quicktime won't work on my new iMac?

    Hi all,
I've just got myself a new iMac, did a migration of all the stuff of my old Powerbook G4 and now Quicktime won't work!!
I had a Pro version of QT 7 but now it states I just have the free version! I did a software update and it told me to update QT, I tried but software update kept telling me that it cannot save the QT update. So in my frustration I deleted QT and decided to download it directly off the Apple site....it downloaded and then stated it can't mount the disk image...what on earth is going on, can anyone help?
    Thanks

You must purchase a new QT key for each computer.
Since you have a new iMac, you are entitled to 90 days of FREE phone tech support from Apple and you can use the Chat with a Support Agent. The online chat support _*is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.*_
If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, you're eligible for the duration of that agreement.

  • Playing old QuickTime files

I am using old Quicktime 7.6.4 on an old mac 10.4.11. I tranferred the file to a new Mac 10.7.3 but QuickTime 7.6.6 won't play the file and the Mac won't let me download the old QuickTime. Any way to solve this? Thanks

Quicktime X is a great little piece of software. However, Quicktime X is very finicky on which codec/file format it can decode/play.
Luckily, there are DOZENS of alternative video/media players and extensions available for the Mac. Some of them are even FREE. Some of the better FREE ones include...
    PERIAN (quicktime extension)
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/22923/perian
    QUICKTIME 7.6.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
    VLC Media Player
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/5758/vlc-media-player
    NICEPLAYER
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15136/niceplayer
... And if none of those work, there is a possibility that, that video file may be corrupted.

  • I am trying to install itunes 7 ,   isscript.msi error

I tryed installing itunes at my girlfriend house...all was going ok till a while during the instalation. they said her isscript.msi was to old, we tryed EVEREYTHING. I returned to my house and i tryed installing it and it worked perfectly. She just bought the new ipod nano and she really want it to work so i need help. plz help us:)

    Item or object?
For "Object already exists" or "Access denied" errors when installing try opening Control Panel > Programs and Features > View installed updates then checking for Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB2918614). Uninstall if you have it, then reboot and try installing again.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • ISScript.MSI Problem

I'm hoping someone can offer some advice. I have tried numerous times to download the updated ITunes/Quicktime software. In each instance I get an error message that indicates the ISScript.MSI file on my computer is outdated.
I have windows XP and have thus gone to Windows to try and downloae this file with no success.
Does anyone have any ideas on how or where I can go to update this file in order to update itunes?
    Thanks!

I followed your instructions, uninstalling the installshield engine and installed the Driver 11 install. ITunes was updated (Bravo! and thanks for your help with this) but another issue has now surfaced.
After the install was complete, a message popped up indicating a software update was available for the Ipod Mini. I clicked on this and during the install, received an error message.
Now, I can turn on the mini but no menu is available. How might I address this newer issue?

  • How do i transfer data from my old macbook 13" 2008 to my new macbook pro 13" but my old macbook won't turn on

hello! i went to the Genius Bar and they told me my logic board needed to be replaced on my old white macbook 13". however, i need to get my data and information from my old macbook but my old macbook won't turn on. i was told by Genius Bar that the hard drive could be accessed via the 3 screws when the battery was removed and the hard drive could be turned into a external hard drive once removed. that way i could transfer my music, movies, pictures, etc. they told me that Best Buy could do the data transfer for me. i went to Geek Squad but they told me the hard drive wasn't accessable behind those 3 screws, that the ram was there instead. i just want to transfer my data. please help!

Your Geek Squad wasn't very geeky. the hard drive is right next to the RAM.
    Here's the three screws
Here's the hard drive tab that pulls the hard drive out.
Here's the hard drive out and you can see the RAM in it's slots.

  • Old Quicktime will NOT go away.

I am currently trying to install the newest version of itunes.
The install is almost complete when it tells me that I cannot have 'an old version of quicktime' on my computer.
I have tried uninstalling quicktime many times but it simply stalls halfway through the uninstall and disappears.
I then went into my hard drive and deleted quicktime completely but itunes will still not install, claiming that the old quicktime is still there.
I have no idea what to do, please someone help. ;[

I have tried uninstalling quicktime many times but it simply stalls halfway through the uninstall and disappears.
    here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    7. Restart your computer.
now try another itunes install. does it go through properly this time?
