ISSU upgrade of Nexus 9508 impact on OSPF or HSRP?

It is my understanding that if you have dual supervisors, performing a software upgrade using the "software install" command will perform an ISSU upgrade and will be hitless to the dataplane.  My question is, what happens to the control plane such as OSPF adjacencies and HSRP during the upgrade?  For instance, if I perform this upgrade on the HSRP active switch, will there be a failover to my HSRP standby switch?  What will happen to my OSPF adjacencies?
Thank you in advance!

First of all ISSU is not yet supported on 9500 switches.
During the ISSU, all you protocol adjacency remains intact and works in conjunction with NSF/NSR capabilities of routing protocols which is enabled by default.

since we do not have any layer 3 features enabled, i believe the message is produced by our layer 3 licence...(see also
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3721631#3721631)
since all the Layer 2 checks in this system (STP and LACP) passed, do i have to expect any outage on the Traffic that crosses the Switches on Layer 2?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fernando

Yes, it will cause an outage. You need to correct the L3 licensing issue first. If the L3 module is ever installed, there is special instruction since installing L3 module will change the Nexus 5500 BIOS setting.

  • NX-OS firmware Upgradation in Nexus 5548 with Enhanced vPC with Dual Active FEX

    Hi All,
Please tell me how to do "NX-OS firmware Upgradation in Nexus 5548 with Enhanced vPC with Dual Active FEX" without downtime for FEX.
The Server are connected to FEX.
    Attached the diagram.

    Hi,
If the 5500s are layer-2 with vPC running between them than you can use ISSU to upgade.
    here is doc to follow:
    ISSU Support for vPC Topologies
An ISSU is completely supported when two switches are paired in a vPC configuration. In a vPC configuration, one switch functions as a primary switch and the other functions as a secondary switch .They both run the complete switching control plane, but coordinate forwarding decisions to have optimal forwarding to devices at the other end of the vPC. Additionally, the two devices appear as a single device that supports EtherChannel (static and 802.3ad) and provide simultaneously data forwarding services to that device.
While upgrading devices in a vPC topology, you should start with the switch that is the primary switch. The vPC secondary device should be upgraded after the ISSU process completes successfully on the primary device. The two vPC devices continue their control plane communication during the entire ISSU process (except when the ISSU process resets the CPU of the switch being upgraded).
This example shows how to determine the vPC operational role of the switch:

  • Routing issue between Cisco Nexus and Cisco 4510 R+E Chassis

We have configured Cisco Nexus 7K9 as core and Cisco 4510 R+E as access switches for Server connectivity.
We are experiencing problem in terms of ARP learning and Ping issues between Cisco Nexus and end hosts.

    Hi,
So you have N7k acting as L3 with servers connected to 4510?.
Do you see the MAC associated with failing ARP in 4510?. Is it happening with all or few servers?. Just to verify if it is connectivity issue between N7k and 4510, you can configure an SVI on 4510 and assign address from same raneg (server/core range) and perform a ping.
This will help narrow down if issue is between server to 4510 or 4510 to N7k.
    Thanks,
    Nagendra

  • Issues upgrading code on WLC

    Hi all,
Im having issues uploading code on a WLC in a remote location. The WLC is running 4.0.217.0 and im trying to upgrade to 4.2.209.0. I have checked the upgrade path from current to new version and there is no issue upgrading directly from one to the other.
The issue occurs when I try and upload via TFTP, the Controller starts the code upload and only downloads a portion of the code, starts the extraction then fails with the following messages:
    -Sanity check fails
-TFTP failure while storing in Flash
    -Failure while storing in Flash.

    cheers
    Rob

    Hi,
"Sanity check failed on file. The file was not downloaded completely! "  - This error log is seen only if upgrade path is not right or if TFTP server which you are using does not support transfer of mor ethan 32MB file.
I understand that you have already tried many tftp servers. If in case, you haven't tried tfttpd32 yet, please download it and give it a try as Cisco recommends to use tftpd32 server.

    Madhuri

  • Anyone having issues upgrading RFC apps from ECC 5.0 to ECC 6.0 ?

We are having issues upgrading our simple RFC app from ECC 5 to ECC 6.
we are using the librfc32u.dll ( 710_Rel) to make a simple call to return MARD table entries.
Runs great in our 5.0 system.
When we run against our 6.0 environment with the same dll, we get garbage back in the table results... (escape characters ).
We have tried downloading the latest 7.0 librffc*  ( standard an u ) . We recompiled to embrace both unicode and non-unicode.  ( fyi our 6.0 environment is unicode ) .  All attempts have failed to date.
Has anyone else experienced issues trying to upgrade their rfc applications?

david, were you able to fix this issue? i have a similar issue. we are upgrading from 4.6c to ecc 6.0. we use a c# program that connects thru sap connector for .net v2.0. it calls a rfc function module, it connects and passes some data, but not all data to the rfc.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks.

  • Issues upgrading from 7.5.1 to 10gR3

We are having issues upgrading from Content Server 7.5.1 to 10gR3 running a Sql Server 2005 back end (based on Windows Server 2003).
We run through the upgrade process (which completes with warnings), but when we try to start the Content Server, we get the following error:
( 0%) Changing lengths of fields in table 'DocFormats'...
system 01.17 12:17:42.738 main When asking the database
for a list of tables, we got no tables back (internal)

    intradoc.data.DataException: !
    csUnableToLocateDatabaseTable,DocFormats

Unable to locate table 'DocFormats' in database.
We are looking for advice from anyone who has been through this upgrade (in the same type of environment), or who have encountered this error or anything like it. The error appears to indicate a database access issue, but we have profiled the upgrade and startup, and have proved that the processes are reaching the database. We
have also tried the install against clean and complex installs, and have tried both JDTS and Microsoft drivers without success (same error).
We have spent many days on this, and have been working with Oracle support, but are starting to worry about how realistic the upgrade is.
    Cheers,
    Dave T

Oracle support suggested I execute an "exec sp_changeobjectowner 'DocFormats','<SchemaName>" command against the database.
I did this for the DocFormats table only.
When I tried to start the instance, the error message stated the DocFormats table was now missing.
Inside the database, the table 'Stellent.DocFormats' was visible through SQL Server management.
I then created a copy of this table as 'dbo.DocFormats' (as it was originally), and tried starting the process again (with the config.cfg variables you suggested).
It turns out the upgrade process can now see the DocFormats table and upgrade it successfully (The dformat column is now showing as varchar(80) ).
The startup process now fails at the very next table in the upgrade list (see output below).
Sounds like a database owner/permissions issue.
Any ideas from anyone with SQL Server experience?

Are there any known issues upgrading to 10.8.3 from 10.7.5 with Parallels Desktop already installed in 10.7.5?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Most of the applications compatible with Lion are also compatible with Mountain Lion, so you shouldn't have any problem. Mountain Lion supports the latest update for Parallels 7 and 8, so if you haven't got one of these versions, you should upgrade it before upgrading Mac OS X. That application uses extensions, so it may cause kernel panics

  • Issues Upgrading to 10.8.3

Has anybody else had issues upgrading to 10.8.3 where it seems as if their are some kind of memory leek going on!!? When I use Safari or Launchpad its as if my system has crashed and I then get thick lines scrolling down the screen, I have updated this software on a late 2008 iMac. The update however works fine on my 2010 Macbook Pro apart from some slight speed issues.

I tried the 10.8.3 update on my 2012 MacBook Pro three times and it returned an error each time saying my computer restarted due to an "internal error" and I was back to the previous version of Mountain Lion. I have read a number of blogs and it eems as if this latest update from Apple is a total disaster with problems manifesting in different ways on different machines?

Does the 40GE modules support the QSA module(CVR-QSFP-SFP10G) so that we can connect a 10GE SFP+ optic into it?
We looked at the doc below and it does not mention the Nexus 9508.

    Thank you!

    Hi,
You need to configure the 40g port as an individual breakout using the cli command "interface breakout slot 4 port 1-3 map 10" first.
Then you can use single mode optic in the QSA
Here is an output from the transceiver

  • Nexus 5548UP ISSU upgrade

    Hi all,
I want to upgrade our 2 5548UP nexusses with Nexus 2000 attached with VPC.
Our current version is 5.2(1)N1(7) and we want to upgrade to version 7.0(5)N1(1).
Is there a possibility to do this without interruption? Is this setup eligible for ISSU?
Does anyone have experience with this?
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Joris

    Hi Joris,
The FEXes *shouldn't* reboot when you upgrade the primary. Please see the following link for reference on exact instructions (ref: "Upgrading a Dual-Homed FEX Access Layer")
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/upgrade/503_N1_1/n5k_upgrade_downgrade_503.html
During this procedure your server's network connections should be maintained through the secondary 5K.
However, if you are not comfortable with this upgrade method, there is another that I have discussed with Cisco as being workable where you shut down half your FEX ports on the primary 5K prior to the primary 5K upgrade. This allows you to upgrade half the FEXes at a time. This is useful if you have two FEXes per rack, and your hosts/servers are dual homed to these FEXes. The procedure would look like this.
1.On the primary 5K shut down half of the FEX ports. In this situation you would shut down the ports to one FEX per rack, leaving another FEX online in that rack to maintain host reachability.
2.Upgrade the primary 5K. This will result in the primary 5K and half of the FEXes it can reach to be upgraded and rebooted, but leaving half of the FEXes and the secondary 5K as available.
3.Verify the secondary 5K is now operational primary. If it’s not then it will not be able to upgrade. Reboot the primary 5K again if the secondary is not operational primary. (in order for FEXes to grab upgrade files from the parent 5K being upgraded, it must either be primary or in operational primary mode)
    4. Upgrade secondary 5K. This will result in the secondary 5K and the other half of the FEXes to be upgraded and rebooted.
5.Turn up all FEX ports the on primary 5K.
    6.Verify stabilized and upgraded network.
    Hope that helps.

  • Routing issue in Nexus 7009 due to vPC or hsrp

we have two site's, on first site we have two nexus 7009 switches (Nexus A  & Nexus B)  and other site is remote site having two 6500 switches. (design attached)
we are using hsrp on nexus switches and Active is Nexus A for all vlan’s
From one of my remote site user's (user's are in vlan 30 ) are not able to communicate with  nexus site vlan 20 specially if host in vlan 20 take forwarding path from nexus switch B,
I can ping the vlan 20 both physical address's and gateway (vlan 20 configured in both nexus switch and using HSRP) from vlan 30 which configured on remote site 6500 switch
ospf with area 0 is the  routing protocol running between both site.
vlan 10 we are using as a management  vlan on both nexus switch  that building neighbore ship with WAN router, it's means wan router have two neighbors nexus A and nexus B, but nexus B building the neigbhorship via a Nexus A because from WAN router we have single link which is terminated on Nexus A,
there is one layer 2 switch between nexus A and WAN router, nexus A site that switch port in vPC because we are planning to pull second link later to nexus B.
All user's are connected with edge switch and edge switch have a redundant uplink to nexus A and B with vPC configured
After troubleshooting we observe that if user in vlan 20 wants to communicate with vlan 30 (remote site), traffic is taking Nexus B is forwarding path, then gets drops.
I run the tracert from pc its showing route till SVI on Nexus B  after that seems packets not finding route.  Even vlan 30 routes are available in the routing table of Nexus B. we don’t have any access-list and Firewall between this path.

    Hi,
I suspect in your scenario that traffic is being dropped due to the characteristics of vPC, the routing table on Nexus-B may reflect the next-hop address for the destination IP, however if that next-hop address is the address of the Nexus-A off of VLAN 20 then it will be forwarded across the vPC peer-link, this breaks the convention.
When you attach a Layer 3 device to a vPC domain, the peering of routing protocols using a VLAN also carried on the vPC peer-link is not supported. If routing protocol adjacencies are needed between vPC peer devices and a generic Layer 3 device, you must use physical routed interfaces for the interconnection.
You can configure VLAN Interfaces for Layer 3 connectivity on the vPC peer devices to link to Layer 3 of the network for such applications as HSRP and PIM. However, Cisco recommend that you configure a separate Layer 3 link for routing from the vPC peer devices, rather than using a VLAN network interface for this purpose.
Take a look at the following URL, this article helps to explain the characteristics of vPC and routing over the peer-link:
    http://bradhedlund.com/2010/12/16/routing-over-nexus-7000-vpc-peer-link-yes-and-no/
    Regards
    Allan.
Hope you find this is helpful.
