Issue accessing files in Customer SFTP site but PC users can

When logging into a Customers SFTP site for Project Files, I get the following message:
"A component on this page is taking longer to load than anticipated. You can keep waiting, exit the page, or switch to an alternate file transfer page that has fewer features but doesn't rely on this component."
If I choose the "Alternative File" choice, it lets me in the site but I can not open or obtain pdf file seen there.
Any ideas?

If you really need to have the profiles stored on the server then my idea wouldn't work for you because it would accomplish quite the opposite - it would store the profile on the PC locally. This will not help you. I have forbidden roaming profiles using the registry keys in my company but here each person only uses the same single PC every day so it is OK for us.

i did a fresh 10.5.2 server install today. anyone on our campus (univ.edu) network can see the site but outside users can't.
my server is automatically assigned a dns entry from our campus network similar to udp01234.univ.edu
i've enabled the web service and started it.
i have one domain name under the "sites" tab.
under "domain name" i entered "udp01234.univ.edu"
"ip address" is set for "any"
running: sudo changeip -checkhostname
Primary address = 69.23.11.103
Current HostName = udp01234.univ.edu
DNS HostName = udp01234.univ.edu
The names match. There is nothing to change.
[note that the above domain name and ip address aren't the real one's]
this seems to check out. what else could i be missing?

our campus firewall is blocking port 80. i changed the site's port to 8080 and it works.
i just assumed that campus allowed port 80.

Published files work on local site but not on remote site

the flash4 published set of files, with a variety of skins tried, works well on the local drive, even when moved to a different folder structure. when index.html is opened on the remote web site, the browser (firefox3 and ie7) displays the player conrols and a rotating horizontal barber pole, green and black, but no flash video.some of the skins i've used are: SkinOverPlaySeekFullscreen.swf, nOverPlayStopSeekCaptionVol.swf and SkinUnderPlay.swf. all work locally but do not play the .flv file on the web site. no problem playing flv movies on the remote web site if the file set is created by dreamweaver.
how should this flash newbee diagnose the problem? --david

The source for the video seems to be hardcoded to your local drive. You will need to change this to a relative path, or hardcode it to the server location.

When I open a Pdf file from a particular site(armandaily.ir) can not display the file.
While at the same time, other browsers do not have a problem.
If I click the refresh button several times on that page, will be displayed correctly
When I disable the Acrobat plugin, file to be downloaded. I get notices that the downloaded file size is less than the original file. When I want to open it in Acrobat, also acrobat, can't open it and I get failure message: the file is corrupted.
I'm using Windows XP with sp3
So far I have not encountered such a problem in Windows 7
and Firefox. 13.0.1

Can't Find Popular Sites (but Opera/FF can), Can't Find Popular Sites (but Opera/FF can)

I've run out of ideas.
Safari just plain won't surf to Google, Yahoo, and many other sites most of the time. Sometimes it will.
Opera and FF get there instantly... to all sites.
So I can't assume it's a Comcast problem.
I've trashed safari, and cache, and extenstion, and Reset and Cleared Cache.
After the reinstall it finds sites quickly for a minute, then stops. (no difference).
I've tried disabling DNS prefetching from another tech note about this problem.
What can one do besides trashing all things Safari and starting from scratch?
This is Safari 519 on SnowL 10.6.8.

I have to upload files from pagemaker 6.5 but no one can open them.

I have a lot of files (posters, brochures, etc) created in pagemaker 6.5. I try to send them to graphics services but no one can open them. They all want pdf files but acrobat will not convert the p6.5 documents. Any suggestions. Or is pagemaker out lived its usefulness and I should get another program.

Everything you need is on the PM Setup CD. However, PM6.5 is ten years so if you are using WinXP SP3, expect problems.
There's some advice here, but it relates to PM7 and Win2K (which indicates it's no longer current). ISTR that you cannot simply copy/extract Distiller because Adobe are very protective of it.

Two users can't login to Bonjour, but other users can

All the Macs in my house are set to log into iChat on startup, which creates a defacto messaging network around the house. Quite handy. But now, on one particular machine (a G5 iMac iSight) two users can't seem to log into Bonjour, although on the same machine all the other users can.
I've looked at some other posts on this site, and have checked that Address Book shows 'me' as correct for both users. The Firewall is not set to Essential Services Only, and there is no limit on the bandwidth. The Quicktime streaming setting is set to 1.5 mbps.
In iChat, when using one of the two troublesome logins on the G5, when I click cmd-2 to bring up the Bonjour list, it says Bonjour is not enabled, and gives a click button to enable it. But clicking it does nothing - no effect whatsoever.
When those two same users use the external Buddy List (and an AIM screen name) their iChat works fine.

This is what I have found out.
It relates more to Shares shown in the Finder but may offer clues.
I have G4 Tower that has been upgraded from Jaguar actually, to Panther, Tiger and Finally Leopard.
Along the way I bought a MacBook Pro. (Now on Snow Leopard)
At this Point I changed the G4's Computer name to represent it was the G4 and called the MacBook Pro "MacBook Pro" rather than my first Admin Account name (otherwise both Computer names and Short names would have been the same)
I also changed the Leopard's My Card in the Address Book to give it a different Name in iChat.
Somewhere during this process the G4 ended up with a Ralph-G4.local ID, a computer's name of Ralph Johns's Computer, a Address Book ID of Ralph G4 and the short name of ralphjohns
The MacBook Pro has MacBook Pro as the Computer name and .local name and the short name is alsoralphjohns. The Address Book My Card is my full name.
Now in discussion with a Level 4 poster who knows more about this than I do I found out that in Leopard if File Sharing is Off the Bonjour ID is still supposed to show in the Snow Leopard Shares.
However if it is ON whether you use AFP or SMB or Both it is only supposed to appear once and mine was appearing twice.
Changing the Computer name to something else seemed to confuse things (I could not Log on to share from Either Computer)
Changing the name back resolved that but changed the .local ID on the G4 as well.
(Changing the .local name back to what it was before seems to have had now effect now.)
However the G4 now only shows once in the MacBook Pro Shares.
I do not think the Upgrades are the distinguishing feature more my poor attempts at making sure the new (then) MacBook Pro had a different ID than the G4.
I have been able to Bonjour Video and send files as well as see the Other Computer in the Bonjour Buddy lists.
So in summary.
The Address Book My Cards have to be Different.
Sometimes changing the Computer name or the .local name does seem to cause issues in File Sharing - which may have some influence on Bonjour as a whole.
Whilst my G4 was showing up in the MacBook Pro as two Shares it was listing the .local name and the Computer's Name as shown in Sharing which were different.
It maybe this if it is happening for this computer that may give clues.

As of about 2 weeks ago the mac users can no longer read the page numbers they get a font error message and see only -- where the page information should be. The pc users do not have this same problem. When I replace our regular font (URW Grotesk) with a system font (Verdana) everyone is able to read the page numbers. This is a new issues, I have been creating these documents in the same way for years without a problem. I have been on hold and on and off calls for the last two hours, I keep getting hung up on once I find someone in adobe support to talk to!

Why can I access files using ubuntu live cd but not my mac?

Every since I have upgraded to Lion then to Mountain Lion I have had nothing but trouble with my mac crashing and not being able to repair the harddrive. I use time machine with an external hard drive to back up everything (also using online server to back up things as well).
My issue is that disk utility never works ( ever ) and when I have trouble the hard drive and my external hard drive always show up grayed out and disk utility says the disk is broken and cannot be repaired. Which the disk are fine because I can access them using a ubuntu live cd no problem.
My main question is how is this not being addressed by apple? This is clearly a bug - there is nothing wrong with my external harddrive or my macs hardrive - yet when I restart my mac I fear it will never start again(in its current state) and the disk utility just doesn't work the only answers I ever get is the hard drive is bad (which is not the case being I can access it with the ubuntu - or even reinstall everything and it works fine etc...)
There is some major bugs and I can say I never had these problems losing my data with a windows machine (though I am not a big windows fan). Apple why doesn't the disk utility work?
Also why when I update my mac and the mac restarts itself does it not eject my external hardrive - also why if you don't eject the harddrive it ruins the data on the hard drive or at least makes it grayed out or corrupt in my mac - but I can copy the files in ubuntu and put them back then it works just fine? These are serious issues and I am really shocked that the mac community would stand for this kind of thing - I am not the only one with these issues I see thousands of others with the same issues so when are they going to be fixed?
If what I am saying is unclear - just google mac hardrive cannot be repaired - and set the time for the last month you will see. Also to those who have these troubles simply use a ubuntu live cd - copy all your files to the home folder then place them back to where the reside and mac will reconize them again - worked every time for me so far no thanks to disk utility.

Your booting off a Ubuntu disk which has it's own operating system on it and on another medium that is free of issues, unlike your current hard drive running OS X 10.8.
I really don't advise you directly installing Linux on a Mac as it's much more complicated that it appears. Also I don't advise you using Linux anything to tinker with a Mac unless you really really know what your doing.
Since your Mac's software is broken you don't know currently and shouldn't be using Linux as a band-aid solution to your problem.
My suggestion is you FIX your primary boot drive.
disk utility says the disk is broken and cannot be repaired
This calls for a complete zero erase and install of the affected area, if it's just the Macintosh HD partition then fine, it's a hold command r boot into Recovery HD and use Disk Utiltiy there to Erase with the middle secure erase feature (important) and then a reinstall of OS X 10.8 from Apple's servers over a fast Ethernet connection.
If your GUID partition table or Recovery HD is affected, then you need to command option r boot into Internet Recovery and select the entire hard drive for the same zero/middle erase proceedure, unless you have a older MacBook Pro then you need to use option key boot off the 10.6 disks and use the Secure Erase/ Zero on the entire drive, install 10.6, then update to 10.6.8, then AppStore upgrade to 10.8 again.
You need to only restore user files into same named accounts from a Storage Drive backup, do not use Migration or Setup assistant as your TimeMachine drive data is likely corrupted. This means all new softwre installs from original sources as well.

Windows and Linux also has to "safely remove hardware" or "unmount" before ejecting a drive as well or it corrupts the data.
I guess this feature came about so one can disconnect a drive without having to physically remove it and wear out the ports doing so.

Accessing files from custom web application

I have created a JSP application using UIX components that you can search for files within in IFS. After searching for the files I want the user to click a link and access the document, much like the webui interface in the out of the box IFS. I'm able display the list of files found but I'm not able to allow the user to click the in MY APPLICATION to see the files. What would be the url to access these files that are stored in IFS. PLEASE HELP.

While I was working on my Mac last night, I got a message that I needed to download an Adobe (I think an Acrobat X Pro) update. I did. That seems to be the time when I started having problems. Now I can't use the uninstaller for the program. I think that may be the problem, but my ability to fix it stops here.
I'm usually more discerning about updates, etc, but I was working on a project and the flashing updater was bothering me, so I hit yes, not really looking at the app I was updating. Ugh. My mistake.

Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is a lot of useful information in there. It actually lists two different plugins to try for opening PDF files. I'd try both of them just to be safe.

Hi, Go to this Adobe test site and you should be able to see the Flash Player logo animate and your FP version will be listed also. The latest is 10.1.85.3. Test with Firefox and also with Safari.

The Shockwave Flash plugin works thru the browser and is Installed there, so when you view any Flash content or videos, etc. you are able to. That test site should tell you if Flash Player is working.

I am going to a website I trust. I launch the link, the page comes up blank with the padlock icon with a message that says Firefox has blocked content this isn't secure. I know the site is https but has some http content. I click the *disable protection on this page* button, but it doesn't allow the site to resolve. It closes the page. How do I get the site to resolve, especially since I know & trust the site?
