Issue Airport TC and Airport Express wifi

Hello,
Any help much appreciated for this configuration that doesn't work:
I have the following conf connected via cable:
ISP modem --> NetGear Router FVS338  --> Airport TC + Airport Express () + NAS (qnap)
The Airport TC is plugged via the WAN port and works has a HD backup.
The Airport Express is plugged via the WAN port and works has primary wifi network (bridge mode + create a wifi network)
Both have automatic DHCP
Both have the Bridge mode ON.
I want to expend my wifi network by:
-  turning ON the Aiport TC's wifi (expend the actual wifi network)
-  setting up the exact same SSID name + same password as the Airport express.
Once i have done this i completely lose my internet connection, as if turning ON the wifi on the TC was messing with all the configuration.
Once i have turn OFF the wifi, everything goes back to normal !!!!!!
I have than try to connect both the AirPort TC and the AirPort Express via the LAN port, but it doesn't solve my issue.
Once the wifi in ON (on the AirPort TC) i lose my internet connection!!!!
Has anyone got the same issue?
What do i do wrong?
Many thanks for your help

I created a New Network on both the Airport with the same SSID and same password:
It seems to work perfectly.
My LAN network works fine and i can connect via wifi in my house.
Do you think that could solve my issue? Or it is better to have one airport in "Create a Network" and the other Airport (express) in Extend network mode?
Do you think the 2 wifi network (same SSID) can scramble each other?
This is far superior method.. known as roaming. It is where I would have suggested you go.
The extend wireless is only for situation where you cannot run ethernet. It is much poorer.
The 2 wifi networks are fine ..  in most cases. They have same name and same security but they should have one difference and that is wireless channels. With both set on auto they simply should sort themselves into using sufficiently different channels to not have a problem (or the distance is so great they literally cannot see each other).
A very good idea to use Apple's wireless diagnostics btw so you can see what channels everything is on.
It is available in Lion (though hidden) and was readily available from Mountain Lion on.
About Wireless Diagnostics
There is a lot more tools if you open the utility.
You can see at a glance all the different AP's in your area by doing a scan and can track performance of what you connect you as well.
I forgot to tell you that i have few Sonos devices (Play1, ...) plugged into my network.
Do you know that system?
Have you ever heard about any issues related to compatibility between Apple Airports and Sonos devices?
Sonos stuff can have issues. I don't use it but some people have posted their problems.. If you run into problems then just post the details.. I would recommend as much detail as possible in a new thread with Sonos in the title.
The new apple routers must be on latest firmware. If you have earlier products then firmware is a problem. It depends. Latest in that case is not always greatest. The particular problem was spanning tree protocol, which is essential to the Sonos but Apple messed up. (since their own products didn't use it).
You can simply do a search here (wireless forum area) for sonos.
here is typical one I handled earlier.
Re: Sonos, Time Capsule and volume permissions
The other thing mentioned in the thread there is Sonos is very much a windows network device.. odd when it is so Apple iTunes orientated. Please do not use Apple type names.. for anything. Use all network names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. That gets you around most of the problems that Sonos support cannot figure out.

Want to stream Netflix to blueray player via my existing Airport Express wifi. The player finds my wifi but the wireless connection fails - says, " Ensure DHCP server is enabled on router and restart router." I don't think I have a DHCP server. Suggestions anyone?

I can't speak specifically regarding LG, but the Whole Home feature on Direct TV (record a movie on one DVR and watch it on another TV in another location) just won't work with wireless, and I have a strong fast connection at 300 Mbps. Ethernet works perfectly.
Few audio/video products will accept "n" wireless at 5 GHz. I suspect that your LG accepts a 2.4 GHz signal, which would top out at 130 Mpbs.
If you are trying to stream High Definition video, especially at 1080P, my opinion would be that it is unlikely that you will be able to do so reliably using wireless.
Perhaps another user who has figured out how to do this will post with some input.

  • Airport Express WiFi network MAC address filtering not working

I have an Airport Express WiFi network which I bought and installed new in 2011. Initially I enabled MAC address access control and populated a list. It was working perfectly, I know, because a niece visiting tried to connect her iPhone and could not until  I added its MAC address to the allowed list. Now however, anyone can connect without being added to the list. I think I read somewhere that a recent firmware update permanently disabled MAC filtering in Airport Express, even when it was previously working? Can anyone enlighten me about what's going on here?

In a sense those are/were/should operate as two separate functions, which they did before recently.
They do operate as two separate functions.....but it all depends on how you have the default rule setup in Timed Access.
If the default rule in Timed Access is set to No Access.......then a wireless device cannot connect....even it has the password for the network.....unless it has been setup on the list of allowed devices in Timed Access.
I have checked this 3 times this evening to verify. It works as it always has, and as expected.
If the default rule in Timed Access is set to Unlimited, then any device can connect to the network if it has the password. Devices that are listed or specified in Timed Access will be allowed to connect at the specific times that have been set up for each device.
So, if you want to use the more traditional MAC Access Control settings, the default rule has to be set to No Access and then you must set up a rule for each device that you want to allow to connect to the network. Only devices on the Timed Access list will be allowed to connect to the network. Other devices will not be able to connect to the network....even if they have the correct password.
If a recent firmware update has changed things from what they have always been.....then I am not affected....and I should be if I am using the same firmware as others.

MacBook Pro that  my Airport Express WiFi profile was created crashed. Can i reset the Airport Express either to an iPad or Windows 7 computer?

Get the Airport Utility for the your iPad from the App store. You will need to know the password for the Airport Express (not the WiFi password) to access the AE. The iPad utility will, I think, do all of the actions to control your AE.
You can reset the AE back to factory default but with the iPad app you should not ned to.

  • Airport Express WiFi issues after Yosemite and iOS update

Since the most recent software updates for OSX and iOS my WiFi has been acting up. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed that Safari does not work most of the time, yet I can open Chrome (on either Macbook Pro, Macbook Air, or iPhone 6) and the website I was trying to access in Safari will open instantaneously. I just recently upgrade my Xfinity internet from the Performance package (25 mbps) to the Extreme package (105 mbps) and thought these issues were related to the upgrade, but we also have a Windows 8.1 hardwired and it streams consistently. I have seen a few other posts related to this issue, but have yet to find a resolution.

  • New Sky Hub Router and Airport Express wifi extension.

I have the new Sky router (Hub) and I am trying to extend the wifi signal in my house but it won't.
I have the 802.11n 1st Gen Airport Express which connects to the wifi network ok but keeps erroring when I try to Extend a wireless network.
Please help as its driving me mad.
    Many thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you always need two Apple  AirPort devices to be able to "extend" a wireless network using wireless only.
A single AirPort router cannot "extend" the wireless network of a 3rd party router using wireless only.
If you only have one Apple router, it is usually possible to establish a wired Ethernet connection between the AirPort router and configure it to provide more wireless coverage that way. The downside of course, is that the connection must remain wired between your main router and the AirPort router.
If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, it might be possible to use a pair of Ethernet powerline adapters to send a signal over the existing powerlines in your home. The theory here is that you already have the wiring in place and just need the adapters.
In practice, the Ethernet powerline adapters are not always predictable in their performance in every installation.

  • Unable to register to Airport Express wifi network

I have a Time capsule, and I'm using a AirPort Express to extend the network. The setup is pretty straightforward, and it has been working.
However quite often my devices (2 iPhones 5s; iPad 2; and event a MacBook) often lose the connection to the wifi when using the Airport Express (too far from the Airport Extreme Time Capsule signal). Opening the wifi menu, the devices detect the network, try to join... But seem not to actually be able to register. No error message appears do, just the circling wheel keeps runing.
All the devices firmware and iOS are updated. Can't figure out what's wrong. Could it be the fact that the Airport Expresss and the Airport Extreme were originally bought in different countries?
Thanks in advance for the support.

    Hi Brett,
Thanks for the reply. But the issue is not with the iOS devices. I experience the same problem with the MacBook.
The issue seems to be with the Airport Express that somehow loses the connection to the Time Capsule. Usually if I restart the issue tends to resolve it self. But I endup doing this on a regular basis...
    Any ideas?

  • I Phone 5, not connecting to Apple Airport Express Wifi

I have a dual issue, I have comcast internet and am using a Arris TG862 all in one modem/router.  I recently had comast switch the modem to BRIDGE mode so I can use my apple airport express router for WiFi.  Now, since it is active and I can connect via my macbook pro, I pad2, etc I cannot connect via I phone 5.  What is the issue?  Did I set up my airport express incorrectly?
    Thank you

  • Mail stopped working on Airport Express wifi.

Using Airport Express.  Suddenly, only Mail stopped working on my iPad & iPhone, using my home Airport Express.  Other internet site work.  Mail works on different wifi network. I deleted Yahoo Account in iPad Settings.  Re-entering the Yahoo Account gives the msg "IMAP server 'apple.imap.yahoo.com' is not respondig.  Check network connection ant that you entered correct info in 'Incoming Mail Server' field.

Had the very same problem with ATT DSL and mail @ my domain. Tried everything including pestering the crap out of my hosting service. Turned out to be AirPort Extreme firmware version 7.6.4 (the latest). I downgraded with Airport Utility to 7.6.3 and all is fine.

  • Apple TV breaks my Airport Express wifi network

    Hi,
I have an Apple TV, Airport Express (mode = "Participate in a WDS network") and Airport Exreme (mode = "create network") and iMac all connected to router/hub via Enternet. Whenever I used my Apple TV, my iPhone and iPad can no longer connect to the wifi network (they keep asking for the password, but 'are unable to connect' even when the password is re-entered). Powering the Airport Express off and on fixes the problem (until next time the Apple TV is used).  Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Luke

Participate in a WDS network would not be the correct setting for the AirPort Express because this type of setting is only used when the AirPort Express is connecting using wireless. You are connecting using Ethernet.
Suggest that you change the AirPort Express to "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name, security setting and password as the AirPort Extreme....and be sure to configure it in Bridge Mode as the final step before you Update the settings for the device.
This will provide one large "roaming" network.

  • Airport Express: Wifi works for MacbookPro, but not iPad or iPhone? Defective device?

    Hi All,
Just got a brand new Airport express installed, and the wifi works perfectly fine with my macbook pro, but for some reason it does not work with my mobile devices.
My iPhone and iPad both work on other wifi networks. They are able to connect to the wireless network I set up, but there is not internet connectivity.
Do I have a defective device? Is there something else I can do to troubleshoot?
    Thanks in advanced

  • Slow airport express wifi on macbook fast on iPad & iPhone

I have a 1st gen airport express and when I do a speed test on my ipad I get speeds similar to when my macbook is connected over Ethernet. But on my macbook I am getting very inconsistent speeds when connected over wifi. My wifi settings are:
    PHY Mode: 802.11g
    Channel: auto 2.4 ghz
    RSSI: -54
    Transmit rate: 11
The transmit rate fluctuates between 2 and 12.
I already made sure Bluetooth was turned off, please let me know if anyone has a solution, thank you.

I have the same express and mac osx versions. made a bit of progress by selecting 802.11g only, but speeds are very inconsistent and much lower than when connected directly via ethernet.
    Suggestions, anyone?

  • Airport Express/wifi router/iTunes Home sharing/iDevices - no shared library

    iTunes on Mac mini.
Home sharing enabled on mini and iPhone & iPad.
Mac mini connected with ethernet to Quest DSL wifi modem/router.
I can see Shared library and content (videos and music) on iPhone/iPad.
Little Snitch shows iPhone/iPad connecting to iTunes.
If I connect the Mac mini via wifi to Quest DSL, the Shared library shows up on the iPhone/iPad but no content.
Little Snitch shows no connection to iTunes.
If I connect to the AirPort Express via ethernet or wifi, I see Shared library but no content.
Turned off both Little Snitch and Firewall but nothing works.

    Finally figured it out...
Had the DNS for wifi connection on the Mac mini set to the two OpenDNS servers but not to the AirPort Express.
I added the address for Airport Express but it did not fix it right away.
I turned off wifi then 'dscacheutil -flushcache' in Terminal, turned on wifi and the shared library content showed up on the iPhone and iPad.
Still don't understand why it would show the library but with no content.

  • Access WEP password protected Airport Express WiFi w/T-Mobile B'Berry Curve

I have a new T-Mobile provided Blackberry Curve and the cellular signal is particularly weak in my home. T-Mobile tells me that the new Curve allows me to connect to my home WiFi network and make phone calls using WiFi (given my traditional cell signal is weak at home). Apparently, this is reasonably new functionality as I had not previously been aware of it. The problem I am having is that my WiFi network is protected by a WEP password that I set. I know the password and can view it on my Mac when I go into my Network settings and prompt it to "show password". The problem I'm having is that when I tell the Blackberry device to "search for networks" it quickly searches and easily finds my WiFi network; however, when it prompts me to then enter the WEP password, I do so and then the Blackberry gives me a prompt with something about how the password should be 8 or 24 hexadecimal characters (or something like that?) and then it will not connnect to the WiFi network. Almost as though it's not recognizing the password? MY QUESTION--Am I putting the wrong password into the Blackberry device once it searches and finds my WiFi network? Is there a different password required (perhaps something specific to my Airport Express router that I may have forgotten and need to locate via another means)? Is the password I set through my MAC OS to access my WiFi network using a laptop, etc. not the same one you use for a device like the Blackberry Curve to access that same WiFi network? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as my cellphone is currently essentially worthless inside my home!

You are probably using the correct password. If you are using a shorter password than what is allowed you can suffer the problems of incompatible implementations of WEP. If you are using WEP you should be using 128 bit WEP. That is stronger than 64 bit WEP but not very strong. The maximum length password for 128 bit WEP is 13 ASCII (normal human) characters (which is 26 hexadecimal characters). If your WEP password is not that long, you should change the WEP password at the AirPort Express (AX) so that it is that long.
