Issue: Desktop flashes in grey/white after 10.7-update

After I updated iTunes to 10.7 whenever I start to play a new song the desktop flashes grey/white for a second and the dock dissapears. Sometimes it stays grey/white until I start a new song, then the desktop goes back to normal and the dock appears.
It also happens when I play movies, podcasts, ringtones.... And it's obviously a software issue, as it doesn't affect the iTunes-wondow which is always visible, looking normal.
Any others getting this?

I have also seen this issue recently . In Console you may see a log similiar to this one:

  • 2012 iMac 27" Desktop Flashing to Grey ~ 2 seconds

I have two 2012 27" iMacs in my office, both of them have just started a new behavior where the desktop flashes grey & then back to normal every two seconds or so. They've developed it simultaneously so I assume its a recent update "feature"? Sometimes rebooting stops it for a while, then opening some application will trigger it again. Both are on 10.7.4
Also - my 2011 27" iMac is not affected, though still on 10.7.3 for obvious reasons :-)
    thanks,
    -jamie

  • Desktop flashing & laptop 'stuck' since doing iPhoto software update

Recently  I was alerted to a software upgrade to iPhoto/iMovie. I set this to go but my laptop seems to have got 'stuck' since installing the software update (which took 3 days of stopping & resuming). I cannot open iPhoto or any other software (even after restarting/rebooting). The wallpaper is flashing between a 'default' wave picture and a blank grey screen. There are no dock icons - just desktop icons & the headers at top of the screen eg Finder, time, battery %, wifi network etc (sorry not sure what they're called!). I cannot use my laptop. Also my Time Machine has stopped recognizing my back up external hard drive - even though it has not been removed. Can anyone help me please? My 'local' Apple Store is 1.5 hours away so hope someone can help me online?? TIA

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
How much free drive space is on the PBookG4?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.
Insufficient disk space could be the cause of all these problems.
Have you tried booting from your install disk and check the drive for errors?
Are you running anti virus software by chance?

  • Flash player not working after recent software update

I have a MAC OSX 10.5.8, after the recent software update my flash player no longer works.
I have read that there is a problem with security for the version of flash that I was using and this is the reason it was disabled. However, I have tried to download the most recent version from the Adobe website, but nothing happens and a message says I already have flash installed on my computer.
I have a version of flash in my HD>>Library>>Internet plug-ins, and there is also one in HD>>Library>>Internet plug-ins (Disabled) which I have tried to move but it only lets you copy it and it seems unable to be moved back to HD>>Library>>Plug-ins
I have also tried to download the "No Script" addon for Firefox so that I can at least have flash working in Firefox, but that doesn't seem to be downloading either.
Please could somebody help me. I cannot now watch videos, listen to my favourite radio stations or even upload pics to ebay to create ebay listings. This problem ruining my internet enjoyment and I just hope that it can be fixed again. How dare Apple just do this without any warning or giving any info on how to easily fix this problem once flash has been disabled.
I am not a techie so maybe there is an easy fix, but I have spent hours trying a lot of different things but nothing seems to be working.

Please, nobody waste any time replying to this issue as the problem appears to be fixed now. I rarely restart my laptop as I usually just put it to sleep, however, I restarted it and the problem looks to have gone away. I may have fixed it with some of the things I tried, but the laptop may just have needed restarting - I'm not sure.
But as long as the problem is resolved, I'm happy. :-)))
    Thanks anyway!

  • Grey scren after MacBook Pro Update 2.0

I downloaded the last update but my Mac is still With a grey screen 1 hour after the restart... so... what can i do ?

If you have a back up, great. Try simply powering off then back on and see if it restarts to your desktop. Then check the About This Mac /  More Info.../ System Report and scroll down to the Software/Installations and see if the install took.

  • Create Cloud app greyed out after latest Lightroom update

With the recent update to Lightroom (5.6) I managed easily on my PC, but when I tried on my MacBook Pro it downloaded, then froze the laptop.  Subsequently the Creative Cloud App has been greyed out.  What do I do?

you mean you cannot select your cc desktop app?  if so, uninstall and then reinstall, Download Adobe Creative Cloud apps | Free Adobe CC trial
if you can select it but it doesn't open or it freezes, CC applications close immediately after launch
if it opens but you see the spinning wheel, App doesn't open | Progress wheel spins continually

  • MBP 15" boots to grey screen after today's update

I have a 2-year-old MBP 15" running Mac OS X 10.7.  It's been running without issue, though it gets heavy use so I do routine maintenance on it (every couple of weeks, I boot into recovery and run disk/permission repair, as well as running the rebuild function in TechTool Pro).  The main partition is encrypted with FileVault 2.
Today, midway through routine activities, the keyboard and trackpad stopped responding.  I forced a shutdown and rebooted.  Now, the computer will boot to the FileVault password screen and accept the password, but after that the screen will stay a solid grey with a mouse cursor. The cursor can move around the screen without any hiccups, but of course there's nothing to click on. If I press any keys on the keyboard, nothing happens for the first 4-5 keypresses, but for additional keys the computer gives an error beep with each press.
I can force a shutdown and boot from another partition without trouble, and have run disk/permission repairs multiple times on the main partition, to no avail. I also reset the NVRAM and SMC multiple times.
The only OS/software changes made recently were updates from Apple itself, via Software Update, for iTunes and SSL and one other thing (I can't recall right now).
    Any thoughts?

Indeed, restoring from backup was the only workable solution. I had hoped to avoid that, as it is a long, overnight process, but I couldn't find any files or caches or any other trigger that the Finder was tripping on.
I am practically religious about backups, as I have had serious data losses in the distant past.  I'm very thankful for Time Machine in situations like this.

  • Ipod screen gone white after using 2006 updater!

hi...my 5th generation video ipod has just had an update and the screen froze after i removed it... the screen then instead of resulting in the apple logo turned white and it is stuck like that. When i try again to restart it only turns black for a while makes a few beep noises and then the screen turns white again .... HELP!

Apple engineers have determined that this is caused by not allowing the firmware update to finish the installation before disconnecting the iPod.
If the reset previously mentioned doesn't help, then put the iPod into forced disk mode, and use the updater to restore the iPod.
With your iPod not connected to the computer, reset it for about 5 seconds.
Then press and hold the select and the play/pause buttons for another 5 seconds or so. Then it should be in disk mode.
Wait until the restore has finished before disconnecting the iPod. If you're unsure, wait at least 20 minutes (it's probably overkill but best to be sure).
    That should cure the issue.
If however it doesn't, and your iPod is still non responsive (doesn't reset, nothing on the screen or button presses don't work), then it will have to be sent away for service.

  • Im getting tree bings on a grey screen after the latest update

is any one else having this problem?

Hi, not quite sure what tree bings is?
    Do you mean 3 beeps?
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Pavilion e9140f Desktop - No Bootup from BIOS after an HP update

My e9140f Desktop ($1000 desktop) crashed during an HP update in April. Now it will not detect any storage devices on bootup. HP does not list the BIOS version or supply any details of a BIOS Recovery process or any info on the SATA Controller process to enable a recovery. HP support already duped me into purchasing the Recovery Disks (not supplied when computer was purchased) and refuses to acknowledge the relative stupidity of supplying Recovery process in the partition of one dard drive, yet no recovery disks for a CD recovery, if the dard drive fails!. Since the bootup does not detect the CD/DVD drive either, Recovery disks are of little use. After reviewing other users' complaints and suggested remedies about tghis same motherboard (M2N78-LA (Violet3)), none have been successful. The system will detect a USB Floppy (no space for a recovery process and no info of the right DOS based boottup). I've tried most of the processes suggested by other users with this problem - but to no avail!
Since this problem seemed to have occurred during an HP update, it would seem that a class-action suit needs to be looked into about this problem, particularly in the light of so many users having this problem. Details of the ROM_Recovery process might be useful (not available from HP to my knowledge). Anyone out there have the same problems?

    Hey djwillis88,
    Thanks for the reply buddy.
Now if you already downloaded the drivers and it didn't work, the next step would be a system restore.
Here is a document to help you out with that. Select the option " Restore windows to a previous point" at the top.

  • MacBook hanging on grey screen after SMC Firmware Update

Hi, I'd be very grateful if someone could offer some help with my current problem.
I have a black macBook to which this morning, I applied the SMC update. After restart, I heard a chime and the grey screen came up - all good so far......
.....except 20 minutes later, the grey Apple screen (with rotating progress thing) is still there, awaiting the lovely blue screen which just doesn't want to appear for whatever reason.
Tried resetting PMU, zapping PRAM with no joy.
    Any help gratefully received.
iMac 20inch Rev. B and Black MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I had the same thing happen to me while updating my girlfriends macbook last night..
I started off by booting my 17" mbp via firewire from her machine, and repairing disk / permissions.. didnt work, I tried booting her HD from my MBP and it spun forever too. did the PMU reset and Pram too ( 3 times ), no change..
Solution: Archive and Install and then re-patched everything...
the macbook works now and the SMC firmware installed perfectly this time.

  • Flash player not working after doing the update

I got an update on facebook saying that I needed to update my flash player. so I did, and now it keep saying that I need to update when It already shows that it is the updated version. now I cannot do anything that involves using flash, no facebook or online games or utube. please anyone if you can help me figure this out.

Recently, my games on Facebook and Youtube stopped working and prompted me to upgrade my flash player.
It included the link to Adobe, as do all the sites that require it.
So, I did. It says install successful, but it is not.
    I use Safari on a Mac 10.5.8.
The flash player is still working on FireFox.
I tried many things so far and it is still down on Safari.
I tried upgrading from the internet.
I tried rebooting a flash player from my Creative Suite 4... that actually told me my disc 2 was blank during install!
I uninstalled flash player and reinstalled many times. No go.
I uninstalled my Flash program and nearly lost it!!
It would not reinstall from my CS4 discs.
A friend helped me and I am pretty sure the Flash maker is up again. I see the icons are back in place in the applications folder, but i did not try running it yet.
He thought the flash player was working again when he returned my computer, but it is still not working in Safari.
I tried downloading and reinstalling the flash player again from Adobe, yes..the correct version for Intel based Mac.
He ran first aid repair a few times.
There was a lot of things that got fixed.
I am in need of more help.
    anyone figure this out?
    please!

  • Issues during installation of WDJ7 Patch after new Smart Update version

    Hi everybody,
today I installed the WebLogic Server 10.3.2 64 bit to use it for Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11g. One of the prerequisites is the WDJ7 patch for the WebLogic Server.
After the update of the Smart Update on July 11 it is not possible to get that patch over the Smart Update gui (Note: 1294294.1). I tried to download the patch with the id 9438213 over My Oracle Support. The descripton (SU Patch [WDJ7]: Mandatory Patch required on WLS 10.3.2 for Oracle Grid Control (GC) 11.1 install) of the download looks fine, but in the zip file the jar WDJ7.jar is missing. The zip files contains only the following files:
    *4D53.jar*
    NIXN.jar
    patch-catalog_15563.xml
    patch-catalog.xml
    XLXA.jar
    README.txt
How can I get the WDJ4 patch? Do I use the wrong patch id?
    Best regards
    Christian

If you look at the install documentation of the Grid Control you'll find:
"Ensure that you apply patch ID WDJ7 on Oracle WebLogic Server using the Oracle Smart Update utility. This patch fixes bugs 8990616, 9100465, and 9221722."
After loading the patch into Smart Update you'll see that the 3 entries which appears under tab Manage Patches are in fact fixing those three bugs.

  • Camera Flash won't work after iOS 5 update

Okay so I had the iOS 5 beta from my friend who is a developer. My camera flash was working perfectly fine then. When I updated to the final version of iOS 5 I tried to use the flashlight and it wasn't working. I then tried taking a picture with flash on and it didn't work. It seems that the flash is completely not working. Any Suggestions?

Beta's are buggy, that's the point of the beta is to give it to people so they an file bugs.
Have you restored to the shipping iOS5 yet? Backup your data then update to iOS5 and perhaps it will be fixed.
