Issue installing server 2012 R2

Just performed a clean install of R2 to replace server 2012.
Needed to re install server as ran into an error that appeared unrecoverable - video_driver_init_failed - stopped me over and over again no matter what boot option or repair method I used.
regardless, server 2012 was on a raid 0 ssd array no issues. tried to do the same with R2 and did not like the amd ahci or raid drivers had to install to one ssd only
you may want to check your driver compatibility on R2, not a real big deal for me
gigabyte MB gb85x-up4 with a10-5800k 32gb ram areca 1882ix24 1250watt seasonic 24 wd red 3tb raid 0+1 2 intell 170gb ssds 4 wd black 3tb drives 1 dvd burner using APU for video
ps last time I installed catalyst drivers for video sb and raid and ahci I started getting randon server 2012 crashes (used win 8/8,1 64bit drivers) scared to reinstall them so just letting it go with windows defaults
main use is streaming video and music to 5 other computers in the house and can stream to all 5 from raid array no problems
should I install the amd drivers?
thanks

I'd probably check OS compatibility here or create a ticket.

  • Not able to install server 2012 R2 on a VMware Workstation 10 .

    Dear Team,
    Thanks in advance.
I am facing an issue when installing server 2012 R2 on a VMware Workstation 10 .
This is the error message i get ''windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms. make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.''
i have tried changing the initial install option of OS  to ''other''. But still its the same.
Finally i have installed it without adding the OS disk in the initial setup. But the problem here is that its asking me activation key.
if you have the activation key for 180 days please let me know.

I have the same problem here.
With VMWare Workstation 10, downloading and using the Windows 2012 R2 ISO evaluation to test.
Shortly after booting up with the ISO, it complains about this message:  ''windows cannot find the microsoft software
license terms. make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.''
BUT, if you uninstall VMWare Workstation 10 and install VMWare Workstation 9, no problem.
Something wrong with either VMWare Workstation 10 or Windows 2012 R2.

  • Install Server 2012 on a raid device

    Hi there
i have following problem - i have to install server 2012 (unattended) on an server with an LSI Controller.
Therefore i have to configure the raid controller - befor the installation of the operating system.
So my idea was to write an batch for configuration an execute this batch as a synchronous command. this is almost working but the configuration of the raid happens to late, so that setup cannont continue
    now i have two questions:
is it possible to set an global environment variable as soon as possible?
would it work if i start my configuration script in the startnet.cmd inside the pe-part of the boot.wim?
    any other ideas?
    thx
    netlord

    Hi Henrik
    i tried this:
i´ve injected the storcli.exe and the raid.cmd into the first index of the boot.wim (called "Windows PE (x64)"
also i edited the startnet.cmd and inserted following line
    %SYSTEMROOT%\storcli\raid.cmd (before of the wpeinit)
    this doesn´t work.
unfortunaltely i can see no log of this action
so i have some more questions:
-was it correct to start my batch before wpeinit? (logically yes, but....)
    - where exactly is the switch between PE-part and Windows Setup-part?
    - can i stop the boot procedure at this time?
    - is it possible to write a log-file which i can read later? where to place it?
    - most of all i would love to write the log to my usb-boot device - is this possible?
how can i set an environment variable which points to the usb-device?

  • Installing Server 2012 on PowerEdge T110 II in Raid Mode

I am trying to install Windows Server 2012 on a PowerEdge T110 II that I just purchased.  No software and driver utility disks came with the computer!  When I try to install Windows straight from the OS Install disk it tells me that some drivers are missing however it does not list any specific ones missing to know what is lacking!  The message reads: "A media driver your computer needs is missing.  This could be a DVD, USB or hard drive disk driver.  If you have a CD, DVD, or USB flash drive with the driver on it, please insert it now...."
I read in your Microsoft Windows Server 2012_Installation Instructions User's Guide_en-us document that I needed OpenManage 7.2 which supports installing Windows Server 2012 OS.  I got the ISO of OpenManage 7.2.0 A01 from your website and burned it to a DVD.  I started the computer with this DVD and was able to get to Dell Systems Build and Update Utility.  From there I went to Configure Against Server OS Installation.  It provides a list of supported OS.  Windows server 2008 and 2011 are listed but not 2012!
When I go into the BIOS (PERC S100, version 2.2.3) and change the SATA settings to ATA and run OpenManage and go to Dell Systems Build and Update Utility and  Configure Against Server, this time Windows Server 2012 shows up and I'm able to proceed further until it gets to 100% complete and reboots.  I insert Server 2012 install DVD during reboot and it states "Valid Operating system installation media was found.  Press "OK" to start install."  A system Build and Update Utility message appears that states: "The Temporary Partition will be removed.  If an error is encountered during the operating system install, you will need to use the Systems Build and Update Utility to restart the install process."  I press OK and get an Install Windows message that states: "The file "autorun.dll" could not be loaded or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is [0xC1]"  I burned the OS DVD from a Microsoft ISO.  I have read that perhaps the DVD needs to be burned differently and at a slower speed.  That may resolve this last issue (don't know yet), but I actually would like to setup this computer in RAID mode anyway and first I need to resolve the following question:
    1) Is it even possible to install Windows Server 2012 with Raid Configuration on this hardware?  If yes, how?  The OpenManage-->Dell Systems Build and Update Utility-->Configure Against Server does not list Server 2012 unless the SATA setting is not set to RAID!!!
    2) When I configure the same computer with Server 2012 as the Operating System installed on Dell.com's Configure and Buy site, it gives a configuration error that says "Errors: Microsoft 2012 options selected from Operating System require Microsoft 2012 Media." When I pick/check "Windows Server® 2012, Foundation Edition, Media Kit" the error goes away.  Do I need this media kit?  Is this what is causing the issue with the install?  And where do I get this missing component?
Any guidance you can give me or reference to appropriate material/docs to help out would be greatly appreciates as I have spent/wasted several days trying to get this server's OS installed!  Thank you.

The T110 II is almost two years old, so yes, compared to the 12G systems, it is using older hardware (I suspect the T110 II's replacement is due out soon).  The S100/S110 is a special implementation of Intel's onboard RAID, so the S110 is not an option on the older boards that have the S100.
    ftp.dell.com/.../DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A05_R294489.exe
    Good luck.

    Hello everyone,
having an issue getting my licensing server to recognize our remote desktop licences.
I have purchased and installed the license pack, the licensing server is the same machine that the clients will be connecting to. I have also set the licensing mode to per user, but in the diagnoser it still appears as 0 licenses available.
any ideas or other things I can try

  • Issue with Server 2012 RDS roles

I have a Server 2012 system where the Remote Desktop Services roles were installed manually, not using Remote Desktop Services Installation. This was picked up because of the licensing errors which popup from time to time. From what I have read, it is not
possible to fix the licensing issues without installing the RDS roles correctly.
I have tried to uninstall the roles but Server Manager hangs with an empty progress bar and never completes the task.
I have run Remote Desktop Services installation, but it fails as the roles are already installed. The error message is "Failed to open the runspace pool. The Server Manager WinRM plug-in might be corrupted or missing."
I am reluctant to reload the operating system and start again, as various pieces of software have already been installed. Is there a way to successfully remove the RDS roles or successfully run the RDS installation wizard with the roles already installed?

Hi FissioPB, could you give us a reference about how to detect and remove the internet filter?
I´ve tried the following, but the same issue “Failed to open the runspace pool. The Server Manager
WinRM plug-in might be corrupted or missing" and "ERROR_WINHTTP_TIMEOUT" events.
    netsh http add iplisten 127.0.0.1
    netsh http add iplisten ::1
    "netsh winhttp show proxy"
    netsh winhttp reset proxy
    Block GPOs
Any advice could be helpful. Thanks!!

  • WSUS issue on server 2012 - Failing to update and have to set WinHTTP set

Very new to 2012 with little knowledge on the product
We have been seeing an issue for a while where we need to set the WinHTTP proxy in order for servers to correctly check in for WSUS and download patches.  This has been set in the Windows 2008 R2 build so hasn't been an issue before. e.g.
However with Windows Server 2012 R2, setting the WinHTTP proxy causes some issues. With Exchange 2013 the PowerShell console does not connect with this set so we need a way around this.
It seems as if the we use the FQDN in the GPO it then tries to go out to the internet thinking that the FQDN is an internet address and then blocked by the proxy so hence we had to create the proxy set on the server. We don't want to have to set WinHTTP
on every 2012 servers as this would be very time consuming and will become un-manageable. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
What is the version of your WSUS? I suppose windows server 2012 is newly added in your network and the WSUS server is not patched.
An update for Windows Server Update Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 is available (KB2734608)
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2734608
    Hope this helps.

2 App Server, 2 Web Server and 2 SQL Servers all the server have Windows 2012 R2
OS .  The SQL backend is SQL Server 2014
Installed Workflow manager on the Web server, the configuration ran fine without any errors. Trying to browse the workflow management site via IIS Manager encountered Certificate Error clicked Continue to this website which gives a HTTP 403 Forbidden and
    following detail message
This error (HTTP 403 Forbidden) means that Internet Explorer was able to connect to the website, but it does not have permission to view the webpage.
Checked the web site Workflow Management Site in the IIS manager which has only one folder bin . I was not able to submit the Screenshot
I have installed the latest patch for the Workflow manager and the Service Bus
    Question I have
Should there be more folder under the Workflow Management Site.
Why is the Web site not showing the web page
Is workflow manager supported for Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL 2014
    Thanks
    Dhanraj

    Hi Dhanraj,
I captured the screenshot from my IIS Manager on workflow server. There is only bin folder under Workflow Management site
If I browser workflow host uri from IIS Manager
https://localhost:12290, I received certification error, and I chose the continue to this website, it returned me as follow:
From the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2902007/en-us It is supported on Windows Server 2012 r2 if you have install latest update.
Here is an article which talks about error:

  • Agent push issues on Server 2012 targets - any known gotya's

    Hi,
I'm having ongoing issues which I believe are directly firewall related when pushing agent to Windows Server 2012 R2 computers.
I get the usual RPC unavailable errors and the workaround I use is I have to turn of the firewall via control panel (stopping the service isnt sufficient for some reason).  This resolves it.
I have asked our firewall admin to check all the well documented ports are open - he has rules in place to allow them and works fine for all pre 2012 servers, and is addement its not the rules.
So was just checking here for confirmation theres no 'undocumented' gotya's to look for when pushing to 2012R2 machines.  I think the likely cause is RPC relating to DCOM high ports - I'm not sure if the are same rande as in 2008 - none of the documentation
posts I've seen to go as far as 2012 just 2003/2008.  when we tried to troubleshoot this ourselves I think our firewall admin used wireshark and commented that the the DCOM highports seemed randomly assigned.  I'm guessing he maybe didnt want to
open up ALL the DCOM jhighport range as we have very tight firewall security.
    Any advice much appreciated...

  • Can't install Server 2012 R2 on Intel SR2500

    Hello
    Hello
I am trying to install Windows Server 2012 R2 onto my Intel SR2500 server, as I am upgrading.
Every time I try to install it, I am given the message 'No physical memory available at the location required. The system cannot continue.'
It was originally running Server 2003 x64, and that was working fine.
I have tried different hard drives, re-seating the RAM, and using only one CPU, but no difference is made.
I am really confused, please help!!
    Here is the system setup:
    Intel S5000PAL board
    Intel FALSASMP SAS midplane
    2x Xeon 5150 Processor
    8GB DDR2 ECC ram
2x 450gb Seagate Cheetah, one storage and one OS.
    Thanks
    Lewis

I don't find it in list for Server 2012. May need to get in touch with the hardware vendor.

  • Cannot Install Server 2012 on RD430.

When are we going to get the BIOS updates we need so that we can install the latest products that are already released?

Just to document this in case someone runs across this old thread, all current BIOS versions available for this server support Server 2012.  The first version to do this was 2.04

  • Cannot install Server 2012 using USB bootable flash.

    Hello,
We plan to upgrade Server 2003 to Server 2012. I downloaded Windows Server 2012 R2 ISO file from the below link.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-server-2012
Then make this ISO file on bootable USB flash and boot it on computer.
During Windows Setup installation after select partition,
Getting files ready on installation (xx%)
It displayed message that The installation was canceled.
"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070570"
I have tried the following ways.
    - re-downloaded the ISO file again
    - Installed on VHD
    - Installed on different computer
    - Tried choosing Server Core Installation or Server with a GUI
Still got the same error. Plese help me how to solve?

I'm not clear about your problem statement.  Are you saying that after downloading re-downloading the ISO, the installation failed in all three different installations?
If so, it really does sound like bad media.  There have been other instances in this forum where the person downloading was apparently hitting a server on the internet that had a bad copy of the media.  They got around the problem by downloading
from a different location, for example, a different part of town that gets routed to a different download server.
