sadly I relied on the Microsoft Compatibility Checker which did not report any issues during the in place upgrade from Server 2008 R2 to Server 2012 R2.
And more sadly, you apparently did not review the WSUS v6
Migration Guide, Step #2, which explicty states you cannot upgrade WSUS from v3 (WS2008R2 and earlier) to WSUS v6 (WS2012/WS2012R2).
Warning
Upgrade from any version of Windows Server that supports WSUS 3.2 to Windows Server® 2012 R2 requires that you first uninstall WSUS 3.2.
In Windows Server 2012, upgrading from any version of Windows Server with WSUS 3.2 installed is blocked during the installation process if WSUS 3.2 is detected, and you are prompted to first uninstall Windows Server Update Services prior to upgrading Windows
Server 2012.
However, because of changes in Windows Server 2012 R2, when upgrading from any version of Windows Server and WSUS 3.2 to Windows Server 2012 R2, the installation is not blocked. Failure to uninstall WSUS 3.2 prior to performing a Windows Server 2012 R2 upgrade
will cause the post installation tasks for WSUS in Windows Server 2012 R2 to fail. In this case, the only known corrective measure is to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows Server 2012 R2.
is there a way to manually remove the old WSUS 3.0 SP2 remains completely ?
Yep. As documented, reformat and reinstall Windows Server 2012 R2.

Instead of installing SQL server instance you selected add node which is to be selected when SQL server installation is to be made on Node which is being added to cluster. Since your OS is not clustered I am sure you selected worng option.
Please right click on setup file and select run as administrator. Now installation window which pops up on that on left hand side select
installation and then on page that appears select 'New server standalone installation or add feature to existing installation'.
You already have SQL server 2008 installed on your machine as per feature discovery report

  • WMI port range Issues windows server 2008 R2

I've been encountering issues with the communication to some of my distributions points worldwide. The server is live but is unable to receive any packages.
I troubleshooted the issue with our network group and it seems that the servers are trying to send the data through the 1027 port
Now for the kicker: These are all 2008 R2 servers and port 1027 is part of the WMI range for server 2003. The port range for 2008 starts at 49152.
the issue in itself is easy enough to fix as you can see below:
netsh int ipv4 show dynamic tcp (this give you the current range)
netsh int ipv4 set dynamic tcp start=49152 num=**** (this allows you to set the beginning of the range to what you want and the # of ports available)
this requires a reboot to be effective.
My question is, why is the default port range changing without an input from anyone?

    Hi Carl,
As you point out, in Windows Server 2008 and later versions, and in Windows Vista and later versions, the default dynamic port range changed to the following range:
    Start port: 49152
    End port: 65535
After my research, I found a relevant KB we can reference:
The default dynamic port range for TCP/IP has changed in Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008

  • AiroNet 1140 Authentication Issues Windows Server 2008 NPS

    Hello,
We have an AiroNet 1140 AP that we are trying to configure RADIUS authentication. Our RADIUS server is a Microsoft Windows Server 2008 NPS server. Unfortunately, our Wi-Fi clients are unable to authenticate. We appear to have everything configured on the AP and RADIUS server correctly, but we receive the following errors from the debug on the AP. Doug

    *Mar 14 05:46:58.413: RADIUS/DECODE: Case error(no response/ bad packet/ op decode);parse response;

Hi Steve, Here is the config for the AP.  Some screenshots of the NPS config are below, too.  Please let me know if you need more information from our NPS server.  Thanks, Doug

  • Issues with Server 2008 R2 GPO Settings Being Applied To Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7

We are working on a new domain and I'm trying to figure out how to populate the default Home page, Trusted Sites and the Proxy now that Microsoft has removed the IEM from the GPO's.
I have created a standalone policy that only has these items set in the User Configuration Preferences and the settings are not updating for my test user account on the test system.  I see the policy is being applied without any errors.  The only
other GPO that is being applied to this system is the Default Domain Policy and it is at the default settings.
Why would Microsoft take away such a basic and fundamental administrative function?  I'm trying to figure this out before all support ends for the older versions of IE in January, 2016.  I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to get this configured
so I don't have to touch every system.
    Mark Gordon
    Systems Administrator

Hi Karen and thanks for the reply.  I'm having to use my personal Microsoft account as I was unable to reconnect to this one.  The only settings in this group policy that is set are the 3 fields (Home page, Security level for Trusted Sites and
Proxy script under the LAN Settings) under the User Configuration Preferences.   There is nothing configured under the Computer Configuration section.
I have my test computer and user in a Test OU with this policy linked to it.  The only policy being applied to this system through inheritance, is the Default Domain Policy (all default settings).  Attached is the link to the gpreport.html that
    you requested.
I am very aware of making sure there are no other settings in the same as well as other policies that can overwrite the desired settings.  This is why I have created a policy with only these few settings as a test to ensure that they work.  I'd
be grateful if you would review the result file below and could come up with some suggestions that I could try.  Thanks a bunch.

    Sincerely,
    Mark Gordon
If you're using Group Policy Preferences (GPP), a common mistake for those new to using GPP, is to misunderstand the F5/F6/F7/F8 configuration step (particularly for the Internet Explorer settings):

  • RDP audio issues with Windows Server 2008

I have a server with an M-Audio 1010LT audio card installed, running audio playback software.  This software needs to stay running and playing at all times.
We were previously running Windows Server 2003 and when we RDPed into the box for maintenance, we simply made sure that 'Leave at remote computer" was selected under Remote Desktop's sound settings.  This allowed us to control the console of the server while the audio continued to play through the server's audio card.
Now, with Windows Server 2008, even with this option selected when we remote into this server all audio stops and Windows shows no available audio devices.  If I end my RDP session and phyically go to the server, I see the audio devices and am able to re-start the audio playback.
Is this a bug, or something that has changed in 2008?  Any workarounds?
    Thanks

  • RAID Virtual Volumes Server 2008 R2 (Dell H200)

    Hi all,
I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I am deploying a Dell R410 server with a Dell PERC H200 Controller with 4 X 300GB SAS Drives in two RAID1 arrays. I have loaded Server 2008 R2 onto the first volume. Unfortunately when I open Disc Manager the second volume is not displayed at all. However in
"Dell's Open Manage Server Administrator" both Virtual disks are displayed, also while posting after the controller has initialized both arrays show up. I attempted to remove the disks in the functional array and booting with the Installation media, to my
dismay the second volume could not be detected by the Windows setup which leads me to believe it is Hardware related.
I have contacted dell support today and according to them it is OS related, unfortunately the channel I purchased the server through did not have stock of the Dell OEM Server Standard 2008 R2, thus I was forced to acquire the package via a DSP channel and as
such I am not entitled to Dell Support on the Software (won’t make that mistake again...). However the representative I spoke too did make the effort to consult the Software support team and they informed him that this is a known issue and referred me
    to the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457110.aspx
Now I am either thick and can’t read or these support guys have it wrong. This article is about basic usage of Disk manager however it has no information on a virtual volume not showing up in Disc Manager... So I can only conclude that they believe I
am an idiot and cannot use Disk Manager to initialize the disk, even though I made it clear that there is no volume to initialize in the first place.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am going out of town for a day or two and will only be able to check back on Monday, so if any feedback is required from me I will reply ASAP.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Thick sculled Disk Manager user.

I had this problem to the point and I have resolved it.  The Dell support rep stated that the PERC H200 drive was designed for "Dell" proprietary drives only and that they have released a firmware version in May or June of 2011 that resolves this:
    Component              Version                  Previous Version
    Package               07.02.42.00               07.01.33.00
    MPT Firmware       02.15.04.00                02.15.63.00
    SASBIOS                7.11.01.00                7.01.09.00
    SASFLASH               7.00.00.00               2.00.00.01
    UEFI BSD                7.00.01.00               2.00.01.09
    NVDATA                  version 17                00.0A.00.15
Make sure the firmware version is the updated version.
Also, there is an updated driver for Server 2008 R2 that is different than the driver for Server 2008 x64 or x32.  Make sure that it is the following version:
    FILE NAME: R294479
Device Driver for Windows Server 2008 R2 x64
    Version 2.0.35.10
There are README's included that give full instructions for Windows Installation.
With these two components, your drives will be recognized by Server 2008 R2.  I hope this helps you or anyone else with this problem.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Trial Version Activation Error

I downloaded a trial of Windows Server 2008 R2 a few months ago.  I may have loaded the ISO onto another PC for testing, but the testing is no longer active.  However,  I am testing a new environment where I need to load Server 2008 R2 onto
2 different servers for testing, before I activate.  I will be purchasing keys once my lab is fully functioning if needed.  One Virtual Machine will be moved to a server which will be running Server 2012 R2 Datacenter in the future.
Back to the problem at hand.  When I try to Activate my Server 2008 R2 copy to get 180 days trial started, it errors out with 0xC004F074.  We don't use a KMS Server, and anything I can find seems to refer to this as an error.  I just need
    to activate a trial version.

    Hi,
    Thanks for posting here.
Regarding the current issue, please understand this error code appears only during the time of activation when the Software Licensing Service reports that it cannot activate the product key
since the Key Management Service cannot be contacted. Please follow the steps below to activate the machine again to see if it works.
    1) Open cmd(command prompt) with administrator rights
    2) Type slmgr.vbs –ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx (x should be replaced by your 25 digit product key)
    3) Hit enter
    4) Type slmgr.vbs –ato (This will change the product key)
    5) Hit enter
For details, please refer to the following article.

  • How to configure Sql Server 2008 R2 for debugging without disabling Windows Firewall?

When I try to debug a procedure in Sql Server 2008 R2 I get a dialog box telling me to unblock some ports.
    >>
The Windows Firewall on this machine is currently blocking remote debugging.  Remote debugging requiers that the debugger be allowed to receive informatino from the network.  Remote debugging also requires DCOM (TCP Port 135) and IPSEC (UDP 4500
    / UDP 500) be unblocked.
    <<
I went to the Windows Firewall and added some new Inbound rules for each of the specified ports (in the images below.  But after this and rebooting entire computer -- I still get this dialog box when I want to go into debug mode from SSMS.  I can
actually kind of debug standalone code in the SSMS window if I cancel the dialog box.  But I can't debug an actual stored procedure -- which is what I need to do.  I also noticed that my server has an IP address instead of LocalHost.  This is
not a public Server -- it's my private development machine which is on a peer to peer network (with one other workstation), but I don't need that workstation to be able to access this server..  Would localholst make a difference for debugging?  How
should I configure the sql server?  The firewall?
    Rich P

Use PRINT and SELECT for debugging. That's what I do. I used to play with the debugger in SQL 2000 and older days, but I realised that I spent more time on getting it to work that I gained from using it.
I thought about that.  I guess that IS the way to go.  Very well.  Thank you for the suggestion.   Although, when the debugger does work in the regular window (not a stored proc because it doesn't work there) the debugger IS nice.
For debugging my proc I am thinking I will insert param vals into a test collection table for now.  One obscure error I am getting with a particular proc -- in a When loop on one parameter I get the "value will be truncated" error -- but everything
is set to accept 1000 characters and none of the source data even comes close to 1000 characters.  I have isolated at what point the error occurs and which section of data where the error is occurring but I have not isolated the cause of the error.
I cannot reproduce the error when I run the procedure by hand in a regular query window with the exact same code.  The error only occurs when the code is run in the stored proc.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 - Won't load certain web pages - Happens in all browers - Won't do windows updates

This server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1) is used to host thin clients as well as RDP sessions.  One morning the office is fine, they come back from lunch and all of the sudden they can't load certain web pages, such as adobe.com
and pandora.com to name a couple.  This was roughly 3 days ago.
1.)  I have tried machines that are not connected to this server (not thin client or RDP), but are on the same network, they can load up any web page fine with no issues.
2.) On the server I have tried Opera, Chrome, IE and Firefox, all have the same exact problem.
3.) Tried different DNS servers just to be sure, even though it only effects the server and no one else.
Based on these facts I know that it is something wrong with the server, but not tied to a specific brower.  In all browsers when you load up a page in question it just sits there with a blank screen trying to load, it never generates any errors.
The Event Viewer is also clean, no errors.  So with no errors I have had trouble trying to find a starting place for this.  Things I have tried:
1.) ipconfig /flushdns to try and clear out any DNS issues
2.) Changing the DNS servers for the server to 8.8.8.8 and 4.2.2.2
3.) Scanning for Viruses and Malware/Spyware
4.) Checking proxy settings on the server
5.) Updating and then removing Adobe Flash (thought it was tied to flash at first).  Problem persists even with no flash player installed.
6.) Completed a failed update of .net, no effect
7.) Loading up browsers in debug mode to try and find anything in the site code that I could relate between failed sites.  I found nothing I could identify
Of all issues to finally be stumped on this seems like an easy one, but I can't even begin to come up with an idea at this point.
I have tried to lay out all of the facts that I know as plainly as I can.  I am hoping that someone has seen this before as this issue is effecting a number of differnt users and keeping them from doing portions of their job.
Help is most appreciated, thank you!

I was able to figure out a solution.
    CAUSE:
It appears that the Internet isn’t fully up to date and ready to use EDns -- which is enabled on Windows Server 2008 R2 by default. The solution for this is to disable Edns. Note that this isn’t
a problem for most Windows Server 2008 R2 member servers.  It’s only a problem for DNS *servers* that do recursive lookups.  i.e. likely only your domain controller will be affected if that is where your DNS Server role exists.
    SOLUTION:
To disable EDns, you can do it from the command prompt, or by editing the registry.
Create a DWORD called EnableEDNSProbes and set to 0 in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\DNS\Parameters
Restart the DNS Server service for it to take effect.

  • BO XI 3.1 SP3 Install issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit

We are trying to install the lastest Build of Business Objects XI 3.1 SP3 on a new server with Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit OS (51038908_part1.exe,51038908_part2.rar, 51038908_part3.rar).
The setup never finish! It seems that the setup can't validate the CMS installation and is trying again and again.
In the "Enterprise XI 3.1 SP3 - Windows - Supported Platforms" document, the Windows Server 2008 R2 Entreprise 64-bit Edition is supported.
The antivirus is desactivated and the setup.exe file was launched in the administrator mode.
    Any ideas?
Edited by: Frederic Wojnarowski on Nov 22, 2010 5:45 PM

We have run into similar issues with that same package (51038908_part1.exe) which is a complete install of "BOE-3.1 package with SP3" for Windows 2008 Server that only installs in the 64-bit mode.
We had a 32-bit Oracle 10g client installed, that BOE did not recognize for the CMS - so the install was hanging at the CMS config...(no clear errors / no simple way to roll-back the failed install).
We only discovered the underlying Oracle issue when we deployed just the CMS with a local MySQL database - and then tried to point the CMS at the Oracle DB instead. It gave us TNS errors even though we could hit the same TNS without issue using SQL-PLUS on the same machine.
This lead us to assume that the 64-bit BOE couldn't connect via the 32-bit Oracle 10g drivers.
We have had trouble installing the 64-bit Oracle 10g client that we downloaded - so are now looking for some advice.
Anyone know which specific 64-bit Oracle 10g client should be used with the cumulative "BOE-3.1 package with SP3" 64-bit package (51038908_part1.exe)...?
I assume that this Oracle client will be used for any connection to the CMS / AUDIT Oracle databases - and any RPT content running on the CR-JobServers that is using an Oracle Native connection...?
Thanks in advance for the advice.

    Hi,
Extension Mechanisms for DNS (EDNS0 as defined in RFC 2671) allow DNS requestors to advertise the size of their UDP packets and facilitate the transfer of packets larger than
512 octets, the original DNS restriction for UDP packet size (RFC 1035).
But this would cause drop packets because of some DNS servers or hosts don’t support this. This always causes some website inaccessible.
Using Extension Mechanisms for DNS (EDNS0)

Nslookup, can you get the name resolved?
In addition, try use IP address access the website and check the result.
    Hope this helps.

  • Deployment issue on windows server 2008(64 bit)

    Hi all,
I am using crystal reports 2008 trial version for my web application. Its working fine in development environment but when I deploy application in windows server 2008 64 bit edition it shows following error:"An error has occurred while attempting to load the Crystal Reports runtime. Either the Crystal Reports registry key permissions are insufficient, or the Crystal Reports runtime is not installed correctly. Please install the appropriate Crystal Reports redistributable (CRRedist*.msi) containing the correct version of the Crystal Reports runtime (x86, x64, or Itanium) required."
Is there any resolution available for this problem except for changing the IIS settings for 32 bit applications?
    Rgds

Read the following [article|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/10d5fa88-2013-2c10-c9a5-f11963607d4e;jsessionid=(J2EE3417600)ID0244107750DB11172929121510648759End] as it goes over your issue.
Essentially you will have to set IIS to 32 bit at the least.
