Issue moving from lightroom to edit in PSE 9

Hi I am getting use to using lightroom 5 and have been using PSE 9.  i have tried to using the" edit in" option move my photo to PSE from light room only to find i can't edit the photo at all in PSE 9 I have a circle with a line through it for my pointer  - it also won't let me "save" I would have to " save as" and then i still can't edit the photo please help i am very frustrated.

My answer was an attempt to solve his problem as to why he could not edit his files in PSE. Obviously you can open 16 bit files in PSE but the edits available are VERY limited compared to the full functionality in handling 8 bit files.

Why am I not able to export NEF files to Photoshop from Lightroom to edit. This is new. When I right click on an image, the export to PS option is not selectable. I've never had this happen before. I haven't used it for a few weeks, so maybe there's an update (Mac or otherwise) that's screwing things up? HELP!

I have an Edit In - Photoshop option, but not an Export - Photoshop option.
Obviously to have right-click Edit In to work, the photo you're right-clicking on needs to be selected.  I assume this is not the problem, and that the photo is selected.
Mavericks 10.9.3 has a problem where the Users folder is hidden, and you need to update iTunes to fix it, but it's been a few weeks since this happened so hopefully you're up-to-date and the Users folder isn't hidden anymore.
If you can't get things to work, I'd uninstall LR and uninstall Photoshop, then install Photoshop, and update it, then install LR and update it, as a way to get any wayward security or other OS-level things reset.

Why does my RAW image look grainy when I export it in to Photoshop CC from Lightroom for editing?
Checked LR's setting for Ps export and they haven't changed since it was OK a few days ago? It is OK if you zoom in but in 'fit page' it looks terrible!

I have exactly the same problem and it has got worse today as the photos also now open in smaller windows for some reason

  • Problem Moving From the Standard Edition to the Enterprise Edition

    Hi !
I am trying to move from Oracle 10g R2 10.2.0.1 Standard Edition to Oracle 10g R2 10.2.0.1 Enterprise Edition.
Platform is MS Windows XP PRO SP2
I follow all steps described in "Oracle® Database Upgrade Guide 10g Release 2 (10.2)" - section Moving From the Standard Edition to the Enterprise Edition.
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14238/intro.htm#sthref10
The problem is that after update from St. edition to Ent. edition when I run:
    select * from v$version - I see :
    Connected to:
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
while I expect to see something like .....
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production With the Partitioning, OLAP and Data Mining Scoring Engine options
Am I wrong ? Why information in view v$version does not update after this ?

In your document you refer to the upgrade guide, this upgrade guide applies when you are upgrading from previous Oracle releases to 10g, not SE->EE.
If you want a procedure to upgrade the SE to EE, then follow this metalink note:
"How to Upgrade from Standard to Enterprise Edition ?
    Doc ID:      Note:117048.1"
If you performed this specific upgrade and you still see this error, then probably you are facing a bug, similar to the one described in "5844095", where the version is changed form SE->EE after 10.2.0.3 patchset application.
In your case it should be enough to apply 10.2.0.3 patchset to show it properly.

I am having trouble moving from my lightroom 4 to Photoshop camera raw. I can move directly to Photoshop but would like to use the raw editor in photoshop CS6 and not the lightroom editor

    Hi,
You could use Photo>Edit In>Open as Smart Object in Photoshop
(or right click on the photo and Edit In>Open as Smart Object in Photoshop)
Then double click on the smart object thumbnail in the layers panel to open camera raw.

    SCOTT, I suggest checking step-by-step.
    a) check the value of the variable
    b) check the value of cast(Dates."Start Date" as timestamp)
    c) Check the results by substituting those 2 with someone else (regular integers)....

  • Can't open RAW file when moved from Lightroom to Photoshop CS4

I have a Canon 6D and recently purchased Lightroom 4.4 so that I could open my Canon RAW files. They do open in Lightroom, but when I move them to PHotoshop CS4 I can't open the files. I get a message telling me I can't open them. Any suggestions?

I don't know Macs so can't give you advice if CS6 will run on your Mac.
But since you have Lr5 you won't need to open Raw images in Photoshop. Lr5 gives you all the Raw editing capabilities that you need. I don't think CS6 will add anything to Raw editing capabilities that Lr5 doesn't have - although I don't know CS6 since I am still working with CS5.
You still can send images from Lr5 to CS4 for editing but you have to select <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog that says that the "Camera raw plug-in 8.1 may be required   ...". BTW: what this means is that the Camera raw plug-in 8.1 is required for Photoshop, not for Lr.
When you select <Render using Lightroom> Lr will create a TIFF / PSD from the Raw image and send it to CS4 for editing.
If you had CS6 Lr would send the Raw image to CS6 but on saving the edits in CS6 a TIFF / PSD would be created.
The only drawback with using CS4 is that the options <Merge to Panorama ...>, <Merge to HDR ...>, and <Open as layers> will be greyed-out and are not available.
If instead of selecting  <Render using Lightroom> in the dialog box you would select <Open anyway>, nothing would happen. CS4 would open but the image would not be displayed in CS4.

  • Moving from Lightroom to Aperture

I've had Lightroom running on my iMac, but am looking at moving to Aperture on the quick recommendation of a pro photogapher friend.  I haven't upgraded LR along the way, and so I'd be looking at buying the full program, which is more expensive than Aperture.  And per my friend, workflow is pretty simple with Aperture, which sounds appealing.  He's promised to give me a short tutorial on how to make Aperture work well for my needs
I have actually done very little in terms of reworking pictures in LR, so there's very little LR "work" to save.  I have the originals on an external hard drive, organized into folders: Family Events, Travel, Kids Sports, etc.  There are subfolders for various events (Dad's 75th birtday, etc.).  My guess (not knowing much about Aperture) is that I should be well set up to bring these images into Aperture, and off I'd go.  I could probably leave my LR catalog alone, since I don't have much work to retain.
Does this make sense, more or less?  I should note that I do expect to have more time going forward to devote to working on my pictures, and I do have quite a few on that external drive (which is backed up, of course).  thx

Your friend is more optomistic than I am. IMO although one can evolve a simple workflow, there is a significant but worthwhile learning curve. I recommemnd fully completing one of the tutorials available.
Put 8 GB RAM in your iMac before starting so you can be sure any anomalies are not RAM-based. Also note that Aperture is a hardware hog.

Yes on bringing them into Aperture. During import set to "Store Files: in their current location" so that you stay with what is called a referenced-Masters workflow. However moving forward you should lose the folder-think organization. Instead import Dads 76th as a (date based) Project, and use Keywords to identify things like Family Events.
My comments from an earlier thread:
First, Projects should be just that: individual-shoot based projects rather than some kind of organizing tool for all the architectural photos or whatever. For performance reasons personally I keep each Project under 500 20-MB images, making a second Project if the shoot is large (e.g. 110829_KJones_Wed_B). One or more albums will always organize the KJones wedding pix together anyway.
Folders are indeed flexible organizational tools but IMO often overused. Folders can effectively hide contents from view and therefore require users to remember how folders are nested and what is inside them. Folders were the only way to deal with single-original film, but are IMO limiting to image database thinking.
The way I look at it conceptually:
Aperture is a database, and each image file lives in one Project.
Albums are just collections of Pointers that point to individual image files living in one or more Projects. Since they just contain pointers, albums can be created or deleted at will without affecting image files. Very powerful.
Keywords can be applied to every image separately or in batches. Keywords are hugely powerful and largely obviate the need for folders. Not that we should never use folders, just that we should use folders only when useful organizationally - - after first determining that using keywords and albums is not a better approach.
As one example imagine the keyword "flowers."  Every image of 100k images that has some flowers in it has the keyword flowers. Then say we want to put flowers in an ad, or as background for a show of some kind, or to print pix for a party, or even just to look for an image for some other reason. We can find every flower image in a 100k-image database in 2 seconds, and instantly create an Album called "Flowers" that points to all of those individual images.
Similarly all family pix can have a keyword "family" and all work pix can have a key word "work." Each individual pic may have any number of keywords.
So by using keywords and albums we can have instant access to every image everywhere, very cool. And keywords and albums essentially take up no space in the database.
Another approach is to use a folder "Family" for family pix, a folder "Flowers" for flowers pix and another folder "Work" for work pix. IMO such folders usage is a very poor approach to using an images database (probably stemming from old paper or film work practices). Note that one cannot put an image with family in a field of flowers at a work picnic in all three folders.

  • SSAS Tabular Performance Issue moving from Laptop to Server

    Hi all,
I've got an issue where my tabular model in SSAS on a Lenovo W520 laptop (DEV) is out-performing the same model on a Dell R720 server (details of each system below).  Our unit tests involves 1 query that takes 2-3 seconds on the laptop
vs 12-15 seconds on the server.  The main difference is the laptop is running Windows 7 Pro and the server is Windows Server 2012 R2.
So for some additional tests we did the following:
    1. Loaded up the model on another laptop (same model and specs as before) the same way we moved the model over to the server and it performed as expected 2-3 seconds for the query.
    2. Loaded up the model on a dell OptiPlex system (i3 processor, 8GB Ram, Win7 Pro) and runs 2-3 seconds still for the query.
    3. Loaded up Win2k8R2 on the dell OptiPlex system (above) and still run 2- 3 seconds)
At this point we are thinking it is an OS issue between 2008R2 and Server 2012 R2 but not sure what the true difference is between the OS(s) that would cause such a huge performance difference.  We thought it might be the power saving mode that ships
with 2012 R2 so set that performance but still seeing a long lag in the query.
    Laptop Specs:
    Lenovo W520
    1 x i7 2.5GHz 2860QM Processor (8 Cores, )
    16 GB Memory (DDR3, Dual)
    Windows 7 Pro
    Server Specs:
    Dell R720
    2 x E5-2697 V2 (12 Cores each, 2.7GHz, with turbo boost enabled)
    4 x 32GB Memory (LRDIM 1866 MT/s)
Windows Server 2012 R2 (All latest updates and drivers)
There has to be some simple setting I'm missing in the 2012 R2 server that is causing this poor performance in SQL Server.  I've seen folks in the tabular forums using Server 2012 R2 so there has to be a way to have this server perform better.
I'm about at my wits end on this one and reaching out for help from the experts out there.  What advice can you give me?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
    Best regards,
    Michael

    Hi Michael,
Acording to your description, you encounter the perofrmance issue in SQL Server Analysis Services Tabular model, right?
as you increase the data load, add more users, or run complex queries, you need to have a strategy for maintaining and tuning performance. Here is a document that describes strategies and specific techniques for getting the best performance from your tabular
models, including processing and partitioning strategies, DAX query tuning, and server tuning for specific workloads.

  • Address Book Issues moving from Leopard to Tiger

I've carried out a clean install of a powerbook G4, moving down from leopard to tiger because the computer was struggling to cope with leopard with the lack of memory. I'm having problems importing the address book contacts. I've played around with the applications support files, cache files and preferences with no joy. Any ideas?

Thanks for the tip, but I don't have a AddressBook-v22.abcddb file in my application support/address book folder. What I currently have is as follows.
    ABPerson.skindexinverted
    AddressBook.data
    AddressBook.data.previous
And a folder I created called "Metadata" which has all of the contacts in .abcp format.
The top three files are recreated automatically it seems as I've deleted them a few times and after I open address book the files return.
    All thoughts welcome.

  • Moving from Lightroom 3 (beta) to Aperture 3

    My current setup:
I have Lightroom set to store all of my images within /Picutres/[year]/[month/
So my Pictures folder looks something like this:
    /2010/
    /2009/
    /2008/
And within a year, it looks like
    /2010/12/
    /2010/11/
    /2010/10/
I want to import my ENTIRE 20,000+ library of mostly RAW files dating back to 2000 (10 years, 12 directories per year for 9 of them). The problem I'm finding in Aperture is that you can only import directories one at a time. It wont let me just point the import dialog at /Pictures/ and give me some sort of checkbox that would say "Include sub-folders".
Am I correct in that my only solution would be to first, open Lightroom and export ALL of my images to 1 giant folder and then point Aperture to that folder?.
Thanks for the help, in advance.

I was on the trial version and could not get A3 to import more than one file at a time and like you I have a bunch! So I bit the bullet and bought the program. Then made sure I had A2 all set up with projects and albums like I wanted it. Now I'm doing an import of the previous library and altho' it will take quite a while, it is showing up in the order I want them.
It says in the instructions that you should be able to shift/click and choose several files at one time and if you have folders with sub folders it should import just as you have them in the finder...your main files being Projects and subfolders being albums. But I could not get that feature to work with the trial. Maybe it works ok with the paid version. I decided to give the import of the library a chance after I bought it and so far all is ok.
    Good luck.

  • Can't open a raw file from Lightroom to Photoshops ACR

I got used to using Lightroom 3 as a place to catalogue and store my images but still process my Raw files in Adobe Photoshops Raw Convertor. Now that I have Lightroom 5 I can't find out how to do this.  With version 3 I just highlighted say 3 files and hit command E.
I know I can open an image as a smart object and go about it that way but I can't open multiple images from Lightroom to ACR.
I know people will say '' hey well do your Raw work in Lightroom'' but I got used to using the Photoshop Raw convertor and I spent a lot of time and money learning it.
Surely there is a way to open say three images from L5 to ACR ???
Please help this has been driving me nuts, It's suggested I will need to start using Bridge but I'm bewildered and don't want to start learning something new.
    Thanks in advance.

It has been a long time since I even had Lightroom 3 installed on my computer.  I don't recall the behavior you are describing.  ACR is used to translate the adjustments made in Lightroom as the image is transferred to Photoshop.  You may have become accustomed to a certain behavior, but it doesn't work that way.  The process of moving from Lightroom to Photoshop works on the assumption that you have done your raw adjustments using Lightroom, and you are now passing that image to Photoshop.
