Issue of importing MS WORD file with inline images in 5.5 that did not exist in 5
Briefly, all of the files I created from dropping in MS WORD files with images look exactly the same in ID 5 as they do in WORD.
When I tried importing the same WORD files in ID 5.5, they look screwed up. For example, in WORD and CS5, the images were perfectly sized and aligned to fit the margins Then, on exporting to various formats (eg., PDF, EPUB), the program hangs around the 85% completion mark, and I have to manually end the program. I have mixed graphic formats on the images, JPG, GIF, and PNG, if that makes any difference.

PS: This input box will not accept hard returns - only manual line breaks. Is that normal?
I forgot to say that all of the same images in 5.5 are shown in various sizes. Resizing the frames manually, and then clicking on "Fit contents to frame," will of course, correct the problem, but it is frustrating to do.

Importing MS word files with footnotes
Laying out a textbook. Client provided formatted text. The footnotes travel with the text as I edit which is great. However, I do not want the rule that separates the footnote from the text. I've searche ID and MS Word high and low to see how to get the rule to not appear. Any ideas or can it not be done without having to placing the files without formatting and starting from the ground up in ID? See link for screen shot. Thanks.

I am trying to import a word doc with footnotes, but they will only import as endnotes, even though I have selected the import option for 'footnotes and endnotes'. I am doing a 50,000 work book, so I'd like each footnote to be at the bottom of each relevant page for easier reading. It should be very simple but I have no idea how to get around this. As usual, I have an impending deadline, so any advice or feedback or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
BTW Clearly I am not a computer guru, so 'scripting' etc would be way too complicated for me.

Importing MS Word docs with embedded images
When displaying imported documents with images directly embedded in the header as a watermark, SO8 displays only the frame but no image.
Saving the document (.doc) without changes & re-opening with word, the same effect is seen in word.
I understand I could delete the empty image frames & replace with a page background image, however this would prevent us migrating to SO, as our company has too many documents for this to be practical.
Does anyone know of a workaround to correctly import / convert the documents ?Hi Ron
I don't know if there's a solution that will allow you to
import the diagrams, but if not then you could recapture the
existing diagrams (i.e. as screen-grabs of the Word document) using
something like SnagIt.

As the App Store is pre-installed on the device, it can't really be removed. I'm thinking the icon is either stashed on another folder, or it's been turned off. If it's in a folder the only way to really find it is to look through all folders on your device for the icon. To check if it's turned off, go to Settings > General > Restrictions (it will ask for a passcode, if your children went into restrictions they created this passcode if it didn't already exist) and make sure "Installing Apps" didn't get turned off (if it's turned off the icon disappears from the Home screens).

Re-Importing a Word File Into RoboHTML
I've got a RoboHTML project where I imported a Word file with
H1s and H2s that automatically became topics and keywords that
automatically became Index entries. In addition, after the import,
I created a Browse Sequence and TOC entries for the imported
topics.
Question: what's the best way to update these imported topics
after my SME comes to me and says that they've updated the Word
file (as they have)? My gut instinct is to delete the new folder
that contains the imported topics and re-import the entire
document, especially since I don't know what's changed. However, if
I do that, what happens to the existing Index entries, Browse
Sequence, and TOC entries?
Further, I can't seem to delete the folder containing the new
topics from the Project tab. If deleting the imported topics is the
way to go, how do I delete the folder so I can start over by
re-importing the Word file?
Is there a better way to do this than by deleting the topic

In addition to what Leon offered, another approach might be
to create a fresh RoboHelp HTML project with the same basic folder
structure and import the Document there. Then simply copy the HTM
files to the existing project and overwrite the existing topics.
That shouldn't mess with any existing links and whatnot.

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

What's the best way to import spoken word files?
How do you import spoken word files, such as audio books etc?
Of course, there's no need to use as much a high bit rate as one would for music... does anyone have some good advice about the way to import it?
If I use AAC, is the 'Spoken Podcast' setting good for any type of word file? (In Preferences > Advanced > Importing.)

I imported spoken word at a higher bitrate and, but couldn't hear substantial differences with the 'Podcast' setting.

I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.
The word file has a trim size of 6” x 9”. It has been set to mirror margins with the inner, top and bottom margins set to 0.75”, the outer margin is set to 0.5” and the gutter to 0.14”.
It doesn’t matter if I create the PDF from inside Word, or open Acrobat Pro 11.0.9 and click Create From File, while the resulting document size is correct and the odd numbered pages reflect the correct margins, the even numbered pages do not. This results in some text near the outer margin, as well as the page numbers being omitted.
Does anyone know how to correct this?
I just noticed that some of the odd numbered pages' text is also cropped. Apparently Acrobat is refusing to set side margins to smaller than 1" (@ 3cm).I'm away from my printer, so I'll try it later. Even so, the proposed test is irrelevant. I operate a small publishing house and am trying to upload certain novels to Ingram, the largest book distributor in the world. The specifications I've set are the specifications they've asked for. Since they've said that the results I'm obtaining are unacceptable, and since they demand submission in PDF form, this renders Acrobat Pro for Mac completely unacceptable for anyone in the publication industry. As far as I can tell, Adobe has a serious bug here that it needs to fix—and at once.

if a start up staroffice 8.0 on linux with a word file, with no .doc extension it's not working.
soffice file (works on solaris, does not work on linux)
soffice file.doc ( works on both platforms)
It looks like the soffice solaris version loads the word filter but the linux
version loads a wordperfect filter.
Is there a place to configure the behavior.

How do I import a pdf file with layers into Motion 5?
In earlier version of Motion, you could import a pdf file with all layers or even select layers you wanted to import. You did this by dragging the pdf file into the project and holding it until a popup appeard providing you choices for how you wanted to complete the import. In Motion 5.0.1 however, no such popup appears and it imports the file as a flat image file. Any ideas how to change this pelase?

GregThanks Ben & Praveen. In FCP7 It was possible to import PDF files and as you did the import, make choices regarding layers you wished to import. FCPX appears to import PDFs but only as flattened files. I'll try keeping the file in PSD format and importing as you recommend.

Converting Word Files with Backgrounds
I've created a Word file with a background by going to Format/Theme and choosing Slate. When I convert the file to .pdf, it fails to capture the background. Does anyone know how to accomplish this? It is an integral part of the document and I need it to transfer to the pdf as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.No, apparently the background does not print either. That is a terrible shame. So, it is not object data at all, and thus Acrobat won't print it. I'm left with creating a background image behind text then in order to make that work.
If anyone else has any ideas, it would be of great help. -

You need a Script Task to read the names and number of columns in the first row of the flat file each time and store it in a variable, then create a staging table dynamically based on this variable and modify the destination table definition if one ore more
new columns need to be added, and then use the staging table to load the destination table. I am afraid there is no available working script for your scenario, and you need some .NET coding experience to achieve your goal. Here is an example you can refer
