Issue on saving using datasheet view

Hi,
My list contains few mutiple selection metadata columns.
When I edit the document properties using data sheet view, the below specified error is displayed.
"Changes to the current row cannot be saved due to invalid data or missing data in required fields"
This error is displayed even if all the required columns are filled in.
What are the possible reasons for it failing and how to resolve this?
Thanks,
dhijit

This is one of the limitations of Datasheet View, I believe. You'll need to use the standard view to edit the document properties.
Also take a look at https://sp2010batchedit.codeplex.com/, which might help.

• Redlining layers cannot be saved using ECL Viewer

Hi,
I am having an issue saving redlining layers using ECL Viewer. When clicking the save button I get the an error message saying the file cannot be checked in. Storage categories have been setup. User has the correct authorization objects. A category for markup has been defined.
Any ideas on why this could be happening?
Thanks,
Lashan

Thanks Sam. I will check on implementing the note.
I have done further testing on this and my findings are as follows.
1. The error message "Error while checking in and storing:" described above only happens for AutoCAD (*.drw) files.
2. I tried redlining using the viewer for PDF and JPG files in SAPGUI and the layers are created. No issues here.
3. When try the same thing using EasyDMS, the redlining layers are created. However, I am prompted to create a new DIR with *.cgm file. If I cancel this and open the PDF or JPG again the layers are still saved.
Any ideas on why the above is happening? What is the correct behavior for the redlining functionality?
Thanks,
Lashan

• Sharepoint 2013 Datasheet View Navigation performance Issues on large lists

I was recently upgraded to SharePoint 2013.
In SharePoint 2010 Datasheet View, one could scroll through and bulk select 100s of line items in Datasheet view very easily. Navigating the datasheet view was just like navigating through a worksheet in Excel, and one could use quick select
keys like ctrl-shift-right arrow / down arrow to bulk select items.
After the upgrade to SharePoint 2013, using the "Quick Edit" tab in Datasheet view and changing the Item Limit to 5000 items, it takes an inordinately long time to load the list. None of the quick select keys like ctrl-shift-right arrow
works anymore and the browser keeps warning about a slow-running script when attempting to select multiple items while scrolling through the list.
The functionality I need is for users to be able to bulk delete all line items in a SP list and copy (from Excel) and paste new line items into the SP list through their browser.

I am running SP Server 2013 with the Dec CU on my internal farm. This past week, I migrated 1 database containing 1 site collection (also ran the site upgrade to 2013). Prior to the migration, the users were using Datasheet View in 2010 to bulk
edit and also add attachments through the pop up window while in Datasheet View. After the migration, performance on their list using IE8 with less than 300 items was horrible for the end user and also for me as a farm admin (I'm running iE11).
I created a new view and performance seemed better for me and a slight improvement for the end user, but still not satisfying. The end user is using Chrome in the interim until I can test with IE9 to see if that makes a difference.
My main concern is the Quick Edit view. This user needs to be able to use the 2010 Datasheet View to manage attachments while in DS view. I created a new DS view on the affected list, but it still defaults back to the Quick Edit view. This
list is on 1 of 3 web apps in my internal farm. The interesting thing is that I can create a 2010 Datasheet View in a custom list on a site that was created in 2013 from scratch in another web app on my internal farm. However, I can only do
this on 1 of 3 web apps. On my 2013 external farm, I can create a DS view in a 2013 site created from scratch in 1 of 2 web apps. Creating a list on the 2nd web app in DS view defaults the list back to Quick Edit. I checked in SharePoint
Manager thinking there was a web app feature that wasn't getting activated. There was only 1 web app feature that jumped out. Academic Library Site Safe Controls was activated on the 2 web apps I could create the 2010 Datasheet View on, but
not the other 3 web apps I could only seem to get the Quick Edit view when creating the DS view.
Is there a feature that needs to get activated or one that might need to be deactivated/reactivated? My internal farm with the 3 web apps is running the Dec 2013 CU and the external farm w/the 2 web apps is running the March 2013
PU.
Aside from that, I've received complaints on the list performance using IE and not being able to use the 2010 datasheet functionality as noted above. I haven't received any complaints on being able to only copy 100 items in Quick Edit view at a time,
but I have also noticed that issue. In my case, the retry doesn't work and I have to delete anything over 100 items before it will save. I would like to find a resolution on this as well. Every bit of help I can get with this issue is very
much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

• Issues with the Custom Filter in Datasheet View

I'm seeing some odd, yet intermittent, behavior while trying to filter columns in datasheet view using a custom filter. After clicking to apply a filter to a column and choosing 'Custom Filter...' a pop-up with regular expressions should appear much like
the following screenshot:
However sometimes, usually on a page refresh, this pops up instead:
I have been able to replicate this sporadically in both IE 8 and 9 against different columns but it's really inconsistent. I can't seem to find any configuration issues or commonality across the clients that might be responsible. Local installations of Office
are 32bit. I know 64bit has been known to cause some issues. I wanted to see if anyone else has run into this issue at all or perhaps it has been addressed in a more recent CU than what I am running (14.0.6117.5002). Any insight would be much appreciated,
thanks in advance.

Hello all
We get this as well on one computer in the office. It seems to be more of an MS Office issue than a Sharepoint issue specifically the "Microsoft Office List 14.0" ActiveX add in.
On one computer that has Office 2010, when "Edit in Datasheet" is clicked within a Sharepoint list the MS office list 14 ActiveX is called and the custom filter options appear with the missing combo boxes like in the picture at the top. I've found this is
reproducible by simply doing:
1.  Visit a Sharepoint list
2. Actions > Edit in Datasheet
(If you click one of the drop downs at this point and choose Custom filter it will open as expected)
3. Actions > Show in standard view
4. Actions > Edit in Datasheet
5. Click one of the drop downs, choose Custom filter and the problem will occur
The only way to make the option reappear is to close down IE and reopen it. You'll then get one more go with point 1 and 2 above before the problem will reoccur again after changing the view using Actions.
Anyone using Office 2007 doesn't seem to have this problem however this uses a different version of the control namely "Microsoft Office List 12.0"
Uninstalling Office 2010 and reinstalling it seems to fix it for a bit but the problem will soon come back. Strangely it won't come back straight away but when it does its easy to reproduce following the above steps.
Testing this on another computer that just happens to have Office 2010 and Sharepoint Designer 2007 installed the problem does not occur however when the ActiveX is called for the Sharepoint list it just happens to invoke the Office List 12 version despite
the fact both versions are available on the machine.
This probably happens because Sharepoint Designer was installed after Office 2010 was installed on the machine so has updated the registry to call the older version which seems to be problem free.
ActiveX files
Microsoft Office List 12.0 = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\STSLIST.DLL
Microsoft Office List 14.0 = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\STSLIST.DLL
Version 14.0.6015.1000 - came with Office 2010 with SP1
I've tried patching version 14.0 STSLIST.dll to:
14.0.6130.5000 (KB2589349)
14.0.6137.5000
(KB2760804) - 9th April 2013 and is the newest I could find at the time.
Edit as I'm typing this: Just found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817403 which is dated 11th June 2013 but doesn't mention any fix for this problem.
I've tried installing the Sharepoint services support components using the Sharepoint Designer installer package as below:
This includes the STSLIST.dll version 12.0 and updates the registry accordingly so that this component is referenced and does seem to fix the problem.
Unfortunately for me, when I checked back later the browser had reverted back to using the 14.0 component for reason I can't explain. Perhaps a Windows update came through and "adjusted" the registry settings to use the newer version. Unfortunately any attempt
at deleting the 14.0 file simply recreates it when "Edit in Datasheet" is choosen.
It would be great to get a proper fix for this instead of having to try and force the computer to use the older component!

• StandardView button is being selected in the ribbon even user clicks on Datasheet view of a library created using custom template.

Hi,
We have an issue with one of the library created using custom library template. Eventhough user selects Datasheet view from the ribbon it's showing Standard view button as selected. However content is being correctly in the grid view. Can some one help me
in sorting this issue.
NB: Functionality is working as expected with library created using OOB document library template.
In the above screen shot Datasheet was selected.but Standard View was highlighted.
Is that something should be done in schema.xml file?
Thanks,
Venugopal

Hi Venugopal Pulagam,
This seems a weird issue, based on my understanding, it is not caused by SharePoint. I haven’t seen that there is settings in list instance schema file can effect this to happen.
To narrow down this issue, would you please check whether this can be reproduced in other type of browser?
And as this only happens for this specific library, please create a new list based on the template, check the result.
How you create the list template, please share the steps to reproduce the issue.
Thanks,

• Is there a way to use SharePoint 2010 Datasheet View in SharePoint 2013?

Quick edit mode doesn't meet users' requirement. They want the header freezing and column width adjustable like what they did in SharePoint 2010.
I understand the Datasheet view is achieved by Access ActiveX control. Can this be used in SharePoint 2013? And SharePoint 2013 online?

Anyone with a solution to use SP 2010 datasheet AxtiveX control somehow as SP 2013 datasheet view?
Anupam Shrivastava
That wouldn't be possible, this is controlled server-side.

• Performance issues when using Smart View and Excel 2010

Hello, we are experiencing very slow retrieval times when using Smart View and Excel 2010. Currently on v.11.1.3.00 and moved over from Excel 2003 in the last quarter. The same spreadsheets in 2010 (recreated) are running much slower than they used to in 2003 and I was wondering if anyone else out there has experienced similar problems?
It looks like there is some background caching going on as when you copy and paste the contents into a new file and retrieve it is better.....initially. The size of the files are generally less than 2mb and there aren't an expecially large number of subcubes requested so I am at a loss to explain or alleviate the issues.
Any advice / tips on how to optimise the performance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,
Office 2010 (32 bit) only is supported.

Hi,
Is that possible to edit metadata in photo site through datasheet view? I just couldn't locate any datasheet view button there.

Hello,
If you saved picture in picture library then datasheet view does not supports directly. Try to copy the other library URL and create new view.

• Error in Calculated Column (using Today) in DataSheet View

I have a calculated column which display's the value based on the difference between today and requested date field.
=Today-[Requested Date]
This is working fine in SharePoint Standard View. But the same is not working with the datasheet view . The calculated column is showing as below
=#NAME?-[Requested Date].
Due to this i am not able to save the data. Can anyone please let me know how to solve this ?

Hi,
First I have used today() function to calculate difference between 2 days except working days. The list is not automatically updating. If we change the Start_Date, then it calculates and gives the value. Can you suggrest me why this happens?
You have metioned in your post that there is some tricks in using today() function. I have created seperate Today_Date column in my list. And Used the same column name in finding difference between 2 days. Here also the same problem exists.
The formula I used is, =IF(AND((WEEKDAY([Today Date],2))<(WEEKDAY([Release Date],2)),((WEEKDAY([Release Date],2))-(WEEKDAY([Today Date],2)))>1),(((DATEDIF([Release Date],[Today Date],"D")+1))-(FLOOR((DATEDIF([Release Date],[Today
Date],"D")+1)/7,1)*2)-2),(((DATEDIF([Release Date],[Today Date],"D")+1))-(FLOOR((DATEDIF([Release Date],[Today Date],"D")+1)/7,1)*2)))
please suggest me how to get Difference between 2 date values get automatically updated everytime, when i open the list.

• Performance Issue with Crosstab Reports Using Disco Viewer 10.1.2.48.18

We're experiencing Performance Issue (retrieving 40000 rows) with Crosstab Reports Using Disco Viewer 10.1.2.48.18 ( > 01 Minute , executing "Building Page Axis" or executing a Refresh).
Are there parameters to tun (in pref.txt file) , in order to reduce "Building Page Axis" execution ?
Note : We've got the same performance problem , using Discoverer Desktop 10.1.2.48.18.
Thank's in advance for your Help.

Hi
Well if the same issue occurs in both Desktop and Viewer then you have your answer. It's not the way that Discoverer is running the workbook its the way the workbook has been constructed.
For a start, 40000 rows for a Crosstab is way over the top and WILL cause performance issues. This is because Discoverer has to create a bucket for every data point for every combination of items on the page, side and top axes. The more rows, page items and column headings that you have, the more buckets you have and therefore the longer it will take for Discoverer to work out the contents of every bucket.
Also, whenever you use page items or crosstabs, Discoverer has to retrieve all of the rows for the entire query, not just the first x rows as with a table. This is because it cannot possibly know how many buckets to create until it has all the rows.
You therefore to:
a) apply sufficient filters to reduce the amount of data being returned to something manageable
b) reduce the number of page items, if used
c) reduce the number of items on the side or top axis of a crosstab
d) reduce the number of complex calculations, especially calculations that would generate a new bucket
If you have a lot of complex calculations, you should consider the use of a materialized view / summary folder to pre-calculate the values.
Does this help?

• SharePoint 2010 Datasheet view problem - Office 2007 database engine download not fixing the issue

We rolled out new laptops (Dell Latitude E7440)/desktops with 64-bit Windows 7 and 64-bit Office 2013 a couple of weeks ago. We installed the 2007 Access Database Engine to enable Datasheet views on our SharePoint 2010 site for our employees, and it worked
before Thanksgiving. However, after the holiday, datasheet view is not working for anyone. I have my old 64-bit Dell laptop with 64-bit Office 2010/2007 Access Database Engine, and it still works there.
I have tried the x86 2007 Access Database Engine, the 2010 Access Database Engine, the Office 2013 Access Runtime, with 32-bit and 64-bit IE (trying any combinations to see if I can get datasheet views to work).
The one obvious difference is the new laptops have Office 2013. Has anyone run into this before, and is there a solution when the standard 2007 Access Database Engine download does not fix the datasheet view problem?

Coworker figured it out. After the 2007 Access Database Engine is installed, go to Internet Explorer, Tools menu --> Compatibility View Settings, and add your SharePoint website to the list. Your SharePoint datasheet list views should start working
after that. Might be something particular to Internet Explorer 11.

• Sharepoint 2010: prevent users from editing a list in the datasheet view

Hi,
I have a sharepoint 2010 list that I need to prevent users to edit from the datasheet view. This is because I have edited the add item form on sharepoint designer and included some custom code. Moreover, I need to allow the users to view the list in datasheet
view to make use of the datasheet custom filter view feature which is not available in the standard view. So I need users to access the datasheet view of the list in read mode only but be able to edit the list in standard view only. Is this possible? How?
Thanks,
George

Hi.
Maybe this helps...I found some users having the problem that the list WAS read only in datasheet view...this is a list of reasons why this could happen:
Certain columns, such as Created By and Modified, are always read-only. Values for these columns are entered automatically.
The changes you made to the selected row or column have been submitted to the server. If there is no conflict or error, you will be able to edit the row or column after the changes have been saved.
There is an unresolved conflict or error in the selected row or column. Resolve the conflict or error before attempting to edit the selected row or column.
The list is set up to require content approval, and you are viewing the list in the All Items view.
In the My Submissions view of a list that requires content approval, the
Approval Status and Comment column are read-only. Only a user with Manage Lists right can edit these two columns.
Attachments are read-only in a list that requires content approval. You cannot view or edit attachments in any of the views.
The document in the current row has been checked out by a user. You cannot edit the columns in the row until the user checks the document in.
You do not have permission to edit the column or row. Contact the list author for more information.

• When using Live View, site looks great, browser testing goes crazy

I am creating a new website (and I am really unexperienced with Dreamwaver CS5). But when I check my site using "Live View" everything looks great, the way it is supposed to. Then when I go to test it in my browswer (Primary browser is Chrome) it goes crazy: I at first noticed that I had saved one copy as an .asp but then resaved it to .xhtml I did delete the first line of code already that the .asp file created as it kept giving me an error on line 1.
Then I tried to do a spry drop-down menu bar, which I have deleted since I thought I was doing something wrong with that and I should just stick to what I half-way know.
If I were to preview the template page it gives me this error:
This page contains the following errors:
error on line 150 at column 76: error parsing attribute name
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.
Here is line 150:
if (a[i].indexOf("#")!=0){ d.MM_p[j]=new Image; d.MM_p[j++].src=a[i];}}
If I were to test the index.xhtml page in the browser, it ignores most images (all but one), and the first nav-bar (an editable region) appears to the left instead of under the header. The layout is totally ignored and everything is on the left-hand side of the screen instead of in a two column layout.
I am not testing this on a server just off of my computer.
I am assuming that the error has something to do with the .asp file I first did and when I resaved it, since I don't know what I would be looking for, is still in there screwing it up.
Here is the code from the template page:

1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the divs. The elements within these divs have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.
2) No margin has been given to the columns since they are all floated. If you must add margin, avoid placing it on the side you're floating toward (for example: a right margin on a div set to float right). Many times, padding can be used instead. For divs where this rule must be broken, you should add a "display:inline" declaration to the div's rule to tame a bug where some versions of Internet Explorer double the margin.
3) Since classes can be used multiple times in a document (and an element can also have multiple classes applied), the columns have been assigned class names instead of IDs. For example, two sidebar divs could be stacked if necessary. These can very easily be changed to IDs if that's your preference, as long as you'll only be using them once per document.
4) If you prefer your nav on the left instead of the right, simply float these columns the opposite direction (all left instead of all right) and they'll render in reverse order. There's no need to move the divs around in the HTML source.
.sidebar1 {
float: right;
width: 300px;
background: #ffffff;
padding-bottom: 10px;
.content {
padding: 10px 0;
width: 650px;
float: right;
/* ~~ This grouped selector gives the lists in the .content area space ~~ */
.content ul, .content ol {
padding: 0 15px 15px 40px; /* this padding mirrors the right padding in the headings and paragraph rule above. Padding was placed on the bottom for space between other elements on the lists and on the left to create the indention. These may be adjusted as you wish. */
/* ~~ The navigation list styles (can be removed if you choose to use a premade flyout menu like Spry) ~~ */
ul.nav {

Instructions

Be aware that the CSS for these layouts is heavily commented. If you do most of your work in Design view, have a peek at the code to get tips on working with the CSS for the fixed layouts. You can remove these comments before you launch your site. To learn more about the techniques used in these CSS Layouts, read this article at Adobe's Developer Center - http://www.adobe.com/go/adc_css_layouts.

Clearing Method

Because all the columns are floated, this layout uses a clear:both declaration in the .footer rule. This clearing technique forces the .container to understand where the columns end in order to show any borders or background colors you place on the .container. If your design requires you to remove the .footer from the .container, you'll need to use a different clearing method. The most reliable will be to add a <br class="clearfloat" /> or <div class="clearfloat"></div> after your final floated column (but before the .container closes). This will have the same clearing effect.

Logo Replacement

An image placeholder was used in this layout in the .header where you'll likely want to place a logo. It is recommended that you remove the placeholder and replace it with your own linked logo.

Logo Replacement

Be aware that if you use the Property inspector to navigate to your logo image using the SRC field (instead of removing and replacing the placeholder), you should remove the inline background and display properties. These inline styles are only used to make the logo placeholder show up in browsers for demonstration purposes.

To remove the inline styles, make sure your CSS Styles panel is set to Current. Select the image, and in the Properties pane of the CSS Styles panel, right click and delete the display and background properties. (Of course, you can always go directly into the code and delete the inline styles from the image or placeholder there.)

Backgrounds

By nature, the background color on any div will only show for the length of the content. This means if you're using a background color or border to create the look of a side column, it won't extend all the way to the footer but will stop when the content ends. If the .content div will always contain more content, you can place a border on the .content div to divide it from the column.

References Available! We accept cash, check, Visa, Discover, MasterCard

Copyright 2012 Midwest Window Brokers Inc. All Rights Reserved.

I'm assuming this is a static web site. Rename (F2) all your pages with .html or .htm extension.
.xhtml is not a valid extension.

• Illustrator CS6 color issues when saving JPG

I have recently gotten rid of the Pantone+ color books and replaced them with the old color books, using the "Workaround 1: Replace Pantone Plus with older Pantone color books" help from Adobe. Followed all of the instrauctions and had no issues until two weeks ago. Then suddenly when saving PDFs I had to start changing the output Color Conversion to ' convert to destination'. I never had to take this extra step before. Now if I do not do this it saves some colors as black. Whatever, I got over that and take the extra step.
TODAY, now I can't even save JPGs without color issues. Some JPGs save correctly. Then I use the same color in a different file, and it saves completely different. Same color profiles, swatch options, blah blah blah.
Someone help me. I am extremely fed up with these issues. Like everyone else, this is my job and now it is making a huge impact on my work...

What program are you using to view the PDFs?
