Issue opening files from Network Share

We have a new windows 7 PC x64 with Illustrator CS6, when we open a file from our server share, it only utilises 25% of the available network bandwidth to open the file.
On an older XP 32 bit machine it utilises the full bandwidth ie 100% so the file opens up to 6 times faster.
When I copy the file from the network to either machine  machine it copies fine and uses 99% of the network speed.
What can I do to my new machine to speed the transfer of data in illustrator?

General advise on working directly on a server using Illustrator: Don't

  • Issues Opening Files in Network Share

    Hello,
I'm hoping someone can help me with this issue I'm having,
I use a Windows 7 desktop at my office and I have a Network Share on a Windows 2008 Server where I save all my documents and file I work on each day.
I use my Macbook Air when I'm working at my other office and when I'm traveling.
    My issue is this,
I setup and able to connect to my Network Share and see all my folders and files. Although if I try to open a file it tells me it can't find the file even though I used Finder to browse right to the file and double clicked on the file. I can copy the file locally to my MacBook, work on the file and then copy it back to the Network Share.
From me testing different things this is what I have found,
It's only Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents that don't open from the Network Share. - I do have Microsoft Office 2011 Mac installed
TXT & PDF Files open just fine from the Network Share.
I doesn't matter if it's Word, Excel or Powerpoint files created on my Windows 7 desktop or my Macbook Air, once it's moved to Network Share I can't open it.
This is where it gets really confusing, other Network Shares I can open the Excel & Word files right from the Network Share, it's just my personal Network Share and I put in the right username and password for my Network Share since I can open the TXT & PDF files just fine.
I'd appricate any help with this issue.
    Thanks in advanced - Jonathan

I have the same problem and i'm not the only one @ my office. seems that everybody who uses mac in our office has the same problem. So could anybody give any advice how to solve this problem? Do we need to configure shared folders on server or just our macs?

  • Illustrator cs6 "this file cannot be found" problem when open file from network

I used to install the trial version of Illustrator CC on my desktop and then when the trial run out I decide to go with illustrator CS6 instead, So I decide to buy &
install Illustrator CS6 on our desktop and everything seem to be fine except
the problem is our .ai file is located on the network shared drive of the design team,
When we try to open the file from the network drive with illustrator CS6, it said "This file cannot be found"
    - we try to copy the file from network drive to our desktop and file can open without problem
    - if we directly double click the file from the network drive to launch the illustrator CS6 with that file. It's also fine, no problem at all.
    - but if we open the illustrator CS6 first and try open.. and then browse to that file on network, then "This file cannot be found" happen again.
    - Illustrator CS6 have no problem open file in the local harddisk.
    - Illustrator CC never have this problem open file in our network drive, try reinstall the Illustrator CC trial again and it can open without problem
    - I try using Adobe CC Cleaner tool to remove everything before reinstall the Illustrator CS6, still no luck.
    - Try remove the Adobe relate folder in user/user/Appdata and then reinstall, still no luck
    - Try right click and open with --> Illustrator CS6 , yes if we double click the file directly it's ok, but as mentioned if we open illustrator first then browse for the file, the problem happen.
Did I miss anything to fix it ?

the same thing happend to me,
in my office the same folder with hebrew name, I can open files
on my laptop the same folder with hebrew name, I cannot open files.
I know its about the folder because when I put the files in a different folder, it open them.
how can I fix it without changing the names of my entire work folders?
there must be a different between my two computers.
    thanks for your help

  • Excel 2013 hangs while trying to open a file from network share

    Hi,
I am having issue opening excel file from a network share. it happens randomly, the file opens and hangs abruptly. Nothing happens after that ( we can only move the cursor), if we click on the excel sheet we get a beep sound. after i kill the excel process
and open it again ,it works fine.
Where did the member use the Excel file? Local disk, SharePoint, File server, or network shared disk?
Network shared file and sometime locally
Does the issue occur in the special file or every file?
it happens randomly and the whole excel freezes. i have to kill the excel session.
Which Office version is the file created? Excel 2013 or early? If it is XLS format, please try to convert to XLSX to test.
Network file server has office 2010 and the user is trying to open it in excel 2013
Does the file have some macros?
Yes, they have macros in some files
Does the issue occur recently? If it is, have you installed some programs or update before you encountered it?
           it happened before too.
Do you get some error message when Excel crashed?
Yeah. Attaching the error message from event viewer. We get file corrupt errors and below too.

    Hi Suren424,
Since your first image showed that "To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel." Please go to this path (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Action Center\Problem Reports)
to check the detailed information, and you might upload the screenshot or info here.
Then, please try the following methods and check if they are helpful:
    1. File --> Options --> Advanced --> uncheck "Ignore other applications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)"
    2. Turn off "Protected View"  --> (File –-> Options –-> Trust Center --> Protected View --> Uncheck all options
    3. I notice that >>Network file server has office 2010 and the user is trying to open it in excel 2013 <<, it also might be caused by the Microsoft Office File Validation for Office 2010, please try to change setting in server with

  • ODD new issue opening files from another network machine

okay, my setup is kind of convaluted, but this is what I have: I made the switch to Mac last year, and do all of my processing on my Macbook Pro. It has CS5 on it.
Because I havent been able to print properly from it (an alleged driver issue, wherein my images print with a 1/4" offset), I still print from a networked Windows Vista machine in the office--and because I hated the print dialogs in CS3 & CS4, I actually still print from PS CS2
(I know, probably seems senseless, but it works best for me). Life has been peachy.
    Now for the issue:
Suddenly, as of today, PS on the Windows machine wont open any jpg or psd on the Mac. If I copy/move it to the Windows desktop, it opens just fine. I either get a message saying it's "the wrong type of file," or--more bizarre, when I double click a file to open, I actually get the dialog box you get when you hit ctrl-N for a new document... and this happens the same in CS2, 3, & 4. Any clue as to what the heck I've got going on?
    thanks!

This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Word Crashes when trying to open file from network

This is a very similar issue like this thread
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sv-FI/officeitpro/thread/95bc7898-e92d-4e47-8f73-390dba53e851 I cannot open any document from any network share, mapped drive or network place- Word Immediately crashes saying "Microsoft Word has stopped working",
tries to find a solution and then closes. This can be caused by any means of access the file- directly double clicking from explorer or using the Open command in word, it even crashes when using the Open command, and then just clicking once on a
    mapped drive or Network header.
I can however copy any file from the network to the local machine and it opens fine. I have tried (With no change in symptoms):
Safe mode (word), remove & recreate normal templates, repair office, uninstall-reinstall office, updated all updates, disabled offline files, removed protected view settings, trusted network documents, disabled auto-save, virus scans (SEP, Malwarebytes,
TDSSKiller), system restore to 2 weeks ago- prior to when user said issued started, reinstalled & updated again after restore, and many other things I can't think of right now.
I have tried to run procmon.exe from sysinternals but get a message saying that "c:\windows\system32\fltlib.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again......"
I tried the instruction on the linked topic above to create a dump file, but no file was created.
This is only happening on one workstation on the network. Win7Pro, x64, Office 2010 Standard.
I am at my wits end, and need some help!

I have replaced the fltlib.dll file and am now able to run procmon, I also have run sfc /scannow which says it found corrupt files but was not able to repair them. When trying to view the files that need to be fixed it says that sfcdetails.txt cannot be
opened. If I run the same command with out the destination of desktop/sfcdetails.txt, then it displays the files in the cmd window, but there are what to appear to be hunderds of files.
I have both logs (procmon & sfc) but they only make partial sense to me. And I still cannot open office files from a network location.

  • Excel 2013 won't open file from network location

I have recently installed Office 2013 on several computers. Excel will not open a file from a network location. It opens the application but never opens the actual file. I have tried Word and it works okay from the same network location. If the users open
Excel first and then use the Open menu option to navigate to their network file it opens fine. I have tried several options listed in previous postings but have not found anything that works for me. I have checked the event log but nothing of note is there
because Excel does open it just never opens the file. Thanks.

Did you get any error message when you try to open excel file from the network location?
Not sure what methods you have already tried. So Firstly I would suggest you check if the option 'ignore other applications...' already unchecked (File->Options->Advanced) . And then add this network location to trusted location .
In addition, you can try to disable the OFV add-in by using a registry setting  to test this issue .Refer to the article below to get the detailed steps:

  • Office applications crash when opening files from network

Using Office 365 32-bit on Win7 Pro PC.  When I try to open a file from a network drive, Word, Excel and Powerpoint (that's all I've tried thus far) crash and restart.  I can open the same file from local without issue.  Using the FixIt tool
removes everything and then I have to go through an entire reinstall and hoping I can avoid that time sink.  Adobe Add-ins disabled.  Safe mode did not solve this for any of the applications.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  • Photos can't open library from network share

    Hi all,
I have a Mac Mini connected to a promise R4 storage that I use for network sharing.
My iPhotos Library was stored on it and I was able to open it from my iMac and my Macbook Pro with iPhoto over the network.
I've upgraded my Mac Mini to 10.10.3 and so to Photos for Mac.
The iPhotos Library has been upgraded to Photos and I am able to open it on the Mac Mini.
But I'am no more able to open it over the network with Photos for Mac from my iMac or my Macbook Pro.
I get the following message :
"The library could not be opened. Photos has attempted to repair the library 'Photos Library', but it is unable to open it."
Is there a workaround to be able to open the Photos library over the network ?
    Thanks.

And for the sync: hope they will eventually implement a "local network" sync that would be faster than Mac -> internet -> iCloud -> internet -> other Mac on the same network they use now. Some apps (like Dropbox) have such optimizations inside.
Can't imagine why they didn't implemented yet.
    'Truth' is the reason.
Syncing requires that one place of storage is considered to be the 'truth' to function correctly.
In olden days iSync used the first Mac as 'the truth'. Now iCloud uses Apples servers. Tim Cook mentioned this when iCloud was released (or maybe it was S. Jobs) - it is a fundamental part of how iCloud is different to iSync & the old ways.
That means devices only have to check in with Apples servers to get the latest data. There is no requirement for all devices to be online & up to date with this system.
Previously the Mac with the 'truth store' needed to connect to Apple & then other Macs (or devices) needed to get data from Apple. If the 'truth Mac' went offline for an extended time it could cause many conflicts when it finally went back online.
It seems like a simple feature (Mac to Mac syncing with no internet), but it isn't the way devices & connectivity is going. Devices are getting cheaper, that means more devices per person, having them on the same network is not always how the devices are used.
If you want Mac to Mac syncing use Dropbox - Apple don't need to reinvent it - it already exists. Just be aware of the inability of the Photos db to work shared like that.

  • Configure Multiple App Servers to Use Same Files from Network Share?

    Application Server v10.1.2
We're currently running Oracle Forms and Reports for a legacy application. It is served up by 8 app servers who pull the files from a single file server. We are beginning to transition pieces of this application to Java; how would we configure the OC4J instances on all 8 machines to pull the Java files from the single file server? In my experience I've always just logged into each app server, gone into the OC4J instance, pointed it to my ear file and let it install(course, I only had to manage one or two servers, never 8). That doesn't seem like that would work in this distributed configuration.
    Any suggestions?

You can cluster your Application Servers, and then deploy your EAR to the cluster insted of deploying the EAR on a single OC4J.

I am attempting to read files on a shared volume of a Windows 2003 machine from a Forte client (win2k - 5.0.26). If doing this is possible, how does one reference a remote file?

    Fortever,
Thanks for the quick response. Your code segment is what I thought it would be. However, when I try that, I get:

I'm using forte version 5.0.26. Is it possible that this is something that is corrected in a later version?

  • Issue opening files.

    Hi,
I've recently been having issues opening files from clients where I get a message telling me the file was created in a newer version of Adobe - this has occurred with both my InDesign CS6 and Illustrator CS6.  I have made sure the software is updated but the issue keeps coming up, can anybody offer any advice?

Probably created in Adobe Creative Cloud.
You can get a trial of Creative Cloud that will last 30 days - and see if you can open the files from there.
It's always best to work on the same version of InDesign as the file was created in.

  • Cannot open Office 2013 Excel, Word, PPT Files on Network Share

Cannot open Office 2013 Excel, Word, PPT Files on Network Share
I am having a problem opening any Office 2013 file when it is located on a network drive. I immediately get the error:
"Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
. To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
. To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving to."
It only occurs when I try to access the file when it is stored on a network share. I cannot open any word, excel or PPT files located on my file shares.
I am on Windows 8 (pro), part of a local domain based on Server 2003, and have administrator rights to the domain and the file share where the Excel file resides (and Word files -same problem). If I copy the file locally, I can either open
it directly, or right-click, go to Properties and 'un-block' the file and then open it. But it is impractical to keep doing this, as I edit different files from the directory tree all day.
I have bing'd and google'd this extensively, and the only answers I come up with do not work, such as going into the DCOM config system and changing the user from interactive to launching user, or vice versa, or even using a specific user - mine
with the password. Since the product is so young there aren't a lot of posts on this, and nothing has improved the situation.
Can you add any insight to this? I really want to use Office 2013, but this is such an obstacle I'm going to have to downgrade if this problem cannot be resolved. Thank you very much for any help you can offer.
    Evan

    Dear Evan,
If DCOM config solution did not work, I'd suggest narrow down the problem by trying to access another network share on another server, try to open an Office file there, do we still have the error? It could help us determine if the issue is on the client
    machine or the server side.

  • Adobe Reader 11.0.9 will not open PDF's from network shares

Having an issue on computers running 11.0.8 that auto update to 11.0.9.  Opening a PDF from a network share that previously worked will no longer, giving the following error: "There was an error opening this document. The network path was not found".  I tried backing off to 11.0.8 again, as that's what get.adobe.com/reader is serving up, but it pops it right back to .9 after a few minutes as auto-updates are on.
Network path was put in the Security (Advanced) section, even turned Protected Mode off.
    Ideas?

Can you please send process monitor logs:
To take process monitor log follow the below steps:
    1) Download process monitor from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx
    2) Launch process monitor.
    3) Now try to open the PDF file at network share. It will not open with the network error so just cancel the error dialog.
    4) Save process monitor logs as a .pml file.
    5) Send it to me.
Try above workflows with Protected Mode checkbox checked.

  • Windows 7 - Files missing from network share after trying to burn and no data cached to be burned

I ran into an issue trying to burn some file from a network share using Windows 7 Home Professional.  I was trying to burn some .jpg files from a mapped network share drive using explorer.  Every time I would drag the files to be burned from
the share drive to the explorer screen to be burned, the files would disappear from the share.  To make things worse the files would not show up in the screen to be burned.  I was unable to locate any of the files on either of the systems when performing
a search after this took place.  I verified that the steps that I was taking to burn the files were the same as outlined on the Microsoft site.  No matter what I did to burn these files, they were deleted from the mapped network drive.
Below are the steps that I took that both resulted in the files being deleted as well as what I had to do to finally burn the disc.
Steps that resulted in files being deleted:
    1. Insert blank CD into drive.
    2. From prompt select burn using explorer (Mastered Format)
    3. Enter title and select with CD/DVD, click Next.
    4. Open a second explorer window, navigate to mapped network drive with files to be burned and snap next to explorer to be burned.
    5. Drag and drop the files from the share drive to CD.
This where the train would fall off the tracks every time.  I would receive a message that the file(s) no longer exist and if I wanted to continue.  From here the files would be deleted from the share drive.  The best part is that the files
would also NOT be locally stored to be burned.
Steps to burn share files WITHOUT delete:
Follow steps outlined above, but instead of just dragging and dropping the files as outlined in step 5 select the files from the network share location, right mouse select copy.  Then right mouse select paste in the explorer window to be burned.
I have tested this many times and every time ended up with the same problem.  At this point I am sure that there is a problem with the way that Windows 7 is performing the burn.  The system that I was using to burn is Windows 7 Home Professional
with all the patches and updates loaded.  The remote system is Windows XP Professional with all the patches and updates loaded.
    Thanks in advance

Yes, the problem is still continuing. However, after looking into as much of it as I can, I can confirm something that r.p.b_ started stumbling on. The files are deleted IF AND ONLY IF a user is using the built-in Windows 7 disc burning utility AND is dragging
and dropping the files to the drive from a network share; this doesn't happen locally. If you watch what happens in the native folder, the files are literally scrubbed from the drive as they are processed and added to the image. However, if you Right Click
on the files and copy them, then Right Click->Paste onto the drive, they remain. (The keyboard shortcuts also worked.) Also, 3rd party disc burning utilities function they way the should. (In other words, they don't delete the files.)
My speculation is that there's a bug in the coding that sees the network share as a temporary buffer file while the image is being prepared. Then, as the files are processed in what ever way is needed, the "temporary buffer" is being deleted. The result:
lost files on a network share. But, this is just speculation.
