Issue Shift + Restore to downgrade from version 3.1.3 to version 3.1.2

Hi all,
I notice that there are some ways to get from version 3.1.3 to 3.1.2 . The most common method i have noticed is the Download a individual 3.1.2 patch file , enter iTunes with iPhone in usb, HOLD shift and click the Restore button. What this does for other people is that it opens a Browse Window to choose the 3.1.2 patch file (which is on the desktop) and it would be able to restore the iPhone to 3.1.2 version. I have seen this worked successfully on several computers / videos / friends.
*However, my issue is that when i HOLD shift and click the Restore button, nothing happens (Browser Window does not open, and the pop up for 3.1.3 version appears _'instead of 3.1.2'_), as if i had not held Shift and Click on Restore.*
-both my shift Buttons are working fine 100% (even from keyboard diagnostics)
-my laptop is Acer Aspire 6920g , Windows Vista 32bit
-iPhone version is currently 3.1.3
-iTunes is at its latest version 9
-have checked google, apple support etc etc. most with success/failure.
-common solution methods do not seem to work for my case.
So my question would be, is there any reason to why Holding Shift and Clicking Restore Button not work ?
How do i make the Shift + Restore, browser window open? (if there is a solution)
warm regards,
kingofmuffin

Assuming you profile is correct, I'd say make an appointment at the Market Mall Apple store in Calgary to have the phone looked at. Upgrading to 3.1.3 should have no issues with wifi. First try some basic troubleshooting & back up the phone befor the appointment. Any 3GS iPhone is still under warranty.

  • Help (please) w/ Full System Restore after downgrading from Snow to Leopard

Yes. I should have created a separate partition, cloned the drive, etc…. But everything was working so well I figured an upgrade to SL would make things amazing. Wrong.
So I downgraded from Snow Leopard to Leopard, using a clean Erase and Install from the OSX DVD that came with my Mac. Told by an AppleCare techie that I could restore my system from a Time Machine BackUp, I was confident that when the install successfully completed I would be able to restore from the TM Backup I made PRIOR TO installing Snow Leopard.
However, the 'restore system from time machine…' option that came up at the end of the Leopard installation told me I only have one TM backup, the latest one made under Snow Leopard (which obviously cannot be used to restore a system now running on Leopard.
When I log into the OS, I can open TM and choose the last 10.5 (Leopard) backup I made, but it seems to only let me restore the 'Macintosh HD' as a folder. So here is where I am stuck:
How can I restore my system - now on a clean install of Leopard - to the last TM backup I made under the selfsame OS. {Sorry if this is a simpleton question - I just really do not want to ** anything up}.

    Thanks, Pondini -
Good to know the AppleCare rep. I talked to (apparently) knew nothing about time machine or how to restore a system from it. I was given nothing but wrong and bad advice…
Yeah, unfortunately that seems to happen on occasion. They don't seem to have access to decent info on things they don't understand, or just "wing it" or something.
Anyway, the erase and install happened, so at least my system is 'fresh'. I booted from the OSX DVD, went into the Utilities menu, found the TM Back-up I wanted, et voila. But it seems I could have bypassed the whole erase/install thing and just restored with the BackUp from TM.
So I must say, to Apple's credit, that TM works extremely well, and exactly as described; couldn't have been more painless (not what I'm used to with computers, at all).
That's why you got a Mac! (They're certainly not perfect, but they're pretty good!).
Glad it's sorted out, and thanks for the star!

  • Why is Boost being downgraded from Version 1.42 to the older 1.41?

Just ran pacman -Syu and noticed the package Boost Version 1.41 is going to replace the newer Boost 1.42. Why the downgrade, does anyone know what happened? I personally didn't have any conflicting issues with Boost 1.42, perhaps others have? By downgrading versions, many new features such as library improvements in Asio, Circular Buffer, Fusion, Graph, Integer, Iostreams, Program Options, Property Map, Regex, Spirit, Unordered, and Xpressive are being lost.

    Hi,
    http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18470#comment59302
there is a serious issue with boost 1.42 and upstream doesn't have a fix yet. An user suggested that is better to downgrade boost to 1.41.
What do you think about this? Wait upstream to fix this and backport it or downgrade? If downgrade, who want to help on rebuilding?

I am against the downgrade of boost.
We have to find a solution for encfs, and we cannot downgrade and rebuild all of the packages just for encfs.

maybe i wasn't clear. encfs is a special case and is broken because of a bug in boost. pasting the comment here:
    > What distribution are you using? A ticket needs to be filed with that > distribution that they should *not* upgrade to boost-1.42, as it can > cause silent data lose for programs using boost serialization.

so what i'm understanding from here is that upstream doesn't want us to ship boost 1.42

This is not "just for encfs", but for serious datacorruption. Encfs is
an example of something that breaks, but if serialization and
deserialization doesn't return the same data as the input data, then
    things can go seriously wrong.

Go for it.  It is a small rebuild list and can be moved from [testing] as soon as the build is finished (we know 1.41 works...).
I'd appreciate if this was done quickly.  I have a toolchain update and the start of the gmp rebuild sitting on my here waiting to upload.

  • I need to downgrade from version 3.6.10 to 3.6.9 in order to use .jpg in my blog. How can I downgrade? I can't find the older version on the site.

When I attempt to insert an image (.jpg) in my blog, the title (if used) appears, but the image doesn't. Images that worked before I upgraded to version 3.6.10 will not load now either, but the images that were inserted before the upgrade are fine. Blog-city tech support says this is a known issue with 3.6.10 and that the only fix is to downgrade to 3.6.9.

    I did that :
    Open Terminal
    1 - wget http://rpms.famillecollet.com/remi-release-8.rpm
    2 - sudo rpm -Uvh remi-release-8.rpm
    3 - sudo mousepad /etc/yum.repos.d/remi.repo
Make sur that in remi section enabled value = 1 and in test section enabled value= 0
    4 - sudo rpm -e --nodeps firefox
5 - sudo yum install firefox
It was successful for me after many hours to look for the right answer

  • Issues in restoring ReportServer DB from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 R2

    Hello,
I am trying to upgrade reporting services for my project from SSRS 2005 to SSRS 2008 R2. I have already taken backup of ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB databases and the encryption keys in Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
The database is also restored successfully in SQL Server 2008 R2. Since reporting services was not installed in SQL Server 2008 R2, I have installed it separately and noticed that "Install but do not configure report server" was the only option
    available during the installation process.
After this, when I open Reporting Services Configuration Manager to change the report server DB, and select the restored ReportServer DB, the report mode is showing as "unknown" instead of "Native". Due to this, I am unable to restore
    SSRS.
It would be great if someone can guide me on what is missing and how it can be corrected.
    Thanks,
Harshad ----------------------------------------------------------- Please mark as answer if the post helped you.

    Hi HarshadR,
According to your description, your restored report server database can be recognized in Reporting Services Configuration Manager. Right?
In Reporting Services, for upgrading a report server database manually, we can just go to the Reporting Services Configuration Manager, open the Database tab, select a database, add click apply, report server will upgrade the report server schema automatically.
In this scenario, does it throw any error message when you apply the restored database as report server database? We suggest you drop the restored old version report server database and restore again, then apply it as report server database in SSRS 2008R2.

  • How do i downgrade from version 11.1.4 of iTunes to a previous version on mac?

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.1.4 and cannot get my head around it! Wondering if it is possible to downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes?
    Thanks in advance, Jackie

What exactly is the problem you are having?
    Do you miss the Sidebar?
You can turn it back on here:
View (in the Menu bar) > Show Sidebar or Command+Option+S
If you have iOS 7 devices you will need iTunes 11 or later to sync.

  • Downgrading from 7 to 6?

I just realised that iPhoto 7 has no "NEXT PICTURE" button when you are viewing pics in large size. IPhoto 6 had this, and it is a feature that I really miss.
Has anyone downgraded from version 7 to version 6 without problems?
I just don't want to end up being unable to install version 6 and then maybe having to back to version 7. Have experienced such problems when trying to downgrade iDvD in the past.
    Any thoughts?

I just realised that iPhoto 7 has no "NEXT PICTURE" button when you are viewing pics in large size.
I'm not sure what you mean by this, can you explain?
Have you tried tapping the right arrow key on your keyboard?
Anyway, have you kept a v6 library? If not, then you'll need to create and populate a new library if you downgrade - which means losing your albums, books, slideshows etc.
To downgrade is simple: trash the app from your Applications Folder, then go to HD/ Library / Receipts and remove any pkg files there with iPhoto in the name. Then re-install.

I have original install (2) tiger discs version 10.4.10.  I want to know if it is safe and what are the necessary steps to do so. Also by downgrading im wondering if a lot of apps nowadays support tiger for example I have photoshop version 5 and 4 these are very important to me. One last question does anyone know of any reliable virus protection for mac that doesnt slow down your computer? because I have read that a lot of them do so. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it! Here are the specs for my iMac

Most of the time a perception of general slow performance is the result of installing third party junk alleged to speed up, "clean" or "optimize" your Mac, or to look for viruses that don't exist. Ideally you would know what you installed so you can uninstall it, but if you don't know or aren't sure there are techniques such as Safe Mode and creating a temporary user account to confirm that suspicion.
If you open Activity Monitor it may show a process, or processes, that occupy a lot of your system's time.
Slowness confined solely to web browser activity is often the result of an inexorable progress toward websites that demand ever more processor-intensive tasks. If your slow performance is strictly limited to web browsing, you might try disabling Flash by either uninstalling it, or use utilities such as ClickToFlash that allow you to control what Flash content gets loaded. Flash in itself is not inherently evil, but there is nothing to stop websites or the advertisers who pay for them from writing horrible Flash code that can do everything from hogging 100% of your CPU's time to causing random crashes. You can watch Activity Monitor as in the above to correlate these troublesome web pages with performance degradation.
You are correct; if your computer shipped with Tiger you may certainly revert to it. I forgot that Tiger was shipping on new Macs as recently as five years ago. To downgrade it would be necessary to completely erase your hard disk and boot with the Tiger installation DVD, followed by installing it anew. Such drastic measures are not necessary and you are unlikely to be satisfied with the results anyway.
Assuming your system is free of third party parasitic junk attached to OS X in an ill-conceived attempt to improve upon it, that your hard disk drive is sound and the boot volume has enough free space to work with, by far the best performance-enhancing improvement would be to add more memory. Buy as much as your computer can use and that you can afford. 2 GB is not that much any more.

  • Help on small issues after WinXP downgrade from Vista

    Lenovo 3000 v200
I recently downgraded from Vista to WinXP Professional, and I must say I'm much happier with XP.
Some issues on the install: although I downloaded all drivers from the Lenovo site, the install didn't work from my usb floppy drive.
It recognized the floppy on the F6 portion of the install, but then later it kept asking for the disk to be inserted (it was already in the drive).  Workaround was to install by changing to "compatibility mode" in the BIOS, and after install, loading all drivers and changing BIOS back to SATA.
All features of the laptop appear to work perfectly; camera, fingerprint reader, wifi, etc.
HOWEVER: in the device manager, there are 3 yellow exclamation points in the "Other Devices" section, and each of them is labeled "Base System Device."   Does anyone know what these are?  Why are they not recognized as specific devices?  LenovoCare doesn't recognize them either, and I have no idea what drivers to attempt to install for mystery devices.
Also, "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus" won't install.  I have the current driver, and I've tried updating from LenovoCare, but no luck.  As I don't use a modem, this seems irrelevant, but I'd like to install it just the same if possible.
Finally, the LenovoCare recognized a need to install a "Hotkey" update, and it claims to successfully install, but everytime I run LenovoCare it says I need it again.  Any comments or observations?
Again, the computer works just fine even with these small issues.  In fact, it is better than fine; it is a joy to use and a real speed demon with XP instead of Vista.  So I'm not trying to do any rocket science or potentially screw up a very nice situation, but I am trying to iron out these small nuisances.
Thanks to all of you who consider my trivial problems.  I really appreciate having knowledgable individuals like yourselves help out a very modestly skilled, but reasonably ambitious user.
    Cheers,
    Fred

Try the "Auto Detect This System" I Talk about. It will load the latest drivers and the latest...BIOS..... for your particular model if you have not already upgraded it. You did not mention if you had upgraded your BIOS...... if your running an  "OLD" version.... THIS..... could be your problem.
