ISSUE: syncing iCal on iPhone & iPad

I have the iPhone 4 & the newest iPad. I need to sync iCal over iCloud on these devices. Sometimes an even I enter in one iCal appears in the other device, and sometimes it doesn't. It seems very random! This causes much anxiety/frustration, as I need to carry and check both devises to make sure I am not missing appointments.
Is there a way to ensure that syncing always works?
Perhaps more importantly, is there a way to manually PUSH iCloud syncing on both devices? If I could manually push syncing once each morning, it wouldn't matter to me if the devices update during the day.
NOTE (if relevant): I use them for hotspots, so do not have Wi-Fi at home. (Yet, at home, they randomly sometimes do sync, so this isn't the whole issue.)
Thank you!!!

P.S. One more note: Syncing with iTunes is not a good option for me. I have an old MacBook that does not support ICloud. I have been advised by Apple to *never* sync my iCal with iTunes, becuase when I did that the fist time, I duplicated tons of calendars and hand to hand-delete dozens of events, yowza.

If your wireless environment is less than ideal, as it is in most inhabited areas, the influence of other wireless networks and devices competing for the same very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum will affect your network's performance. Your own wireless network is a microcosm of that environment.
To mitigate the effects of competing wireless networks, use 5 GHz to the maximum practicable extent. It is comparatively free from interference contributed by other wireless devices and is likely to remain that way for some time. However, it is less tolerant of intervening obstructions and construction materials than the 2.4 GHz spectrum, so it's not a panacea. Every installation is different so you must experiment to determine the optimum configuration.
Place your wireless router (what kind is it?) in a central location, convenient to all the devices that require it. Most of the time a utility or ISP will locate it in some remote corner next to the utility service entrance. That is almost always the worst possible location.
Others find that only a direct wired Ethernet connection between router and devices will maintain uninterrupted access to Airplay.
That is almost certain to result in the best possible AirPlay performance. Short of having everything hard wired (it's not an option for the iPad for example) use an Ethernet connection for all the devices that lend themselves to that method. Your AppleTV is certainly one of them, since its location is not likely to change very often. Your AirPort Express should be another, since your audio systems are likely to stay put as well. Connect them both to your existing router, either directly or through an inexpensive Ethernet switch. Your problems are likely to be solved with just those two connections.

  • Syncing emails across iPhone, iPad and macbook pro

Can you sync emails across iphone, ipad and macbook pro, so if you delete from one it deletes on all?  If you write an email on one it shows up on all?  If you store something in a folder or flad something it shows up on all?
    Thanks

Syncing mail is a function on the type of mail account, & requires an IMAP or Exchange account. Not possible with a POP3 account.

  • ITunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion

iTunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion. I even tried to use Replace Information On This iPhone and it doesn't work. Any idea guys?

I'm having the same problem. It's as if my iPhone and MacBook Pro now have two separate calendars.
Basically, I have a MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion, 13", late 2011) that I sync via USB with an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1). Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, all of my iCal events would sync flawlessly. But none of the events I've created in iCal (Calendars) since upgrading have synced to the iPhone. Likewise, no new events that I create on the iPhone Calendar will sync to iCal. Also, changes to an existing event (even one created before upgrading to Mountain Lion) don't get synced either.
Everything else seems to be syncing just fine though (music, apps, contacts, etc).

  • How to sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?

    Hello,
How can I sync iCal between iPhone and MacBookPro without MobileMe?
I'm still using MobileMe, but I will stop soon.
I'm using my iPhone in India a lot to create new events or to add new contacts. At the end of the day I would like to able to sync it with my MacBookPro without using MobileMe. Internet Connection is often very bad in that area. The iPhone I only use without UMTS and all that Data Transfering stuff. Best for me would be to sync directly by wire or Bluetooth if possible. If you have a solution with and without Internet Connection, that would be very helpfull to me.

On the Mac, in iTunes with iPhone attached, click on the iPhone section. Go to the "info" tab. There you will see a list of items that can be synced. Make sure that "sync addressbook contacts" is checked, along with the appropriate choices under it.
Don't know what else to say, it works fine here.
    Hope this helps.

  • Contacts in "Groups" not syncing correctly on iPhone/iPad

I am using iCloud to keep my Address Book/Contacts synced between my Mac, iPad and iPhone. For the most part, the service works as advertised, i.e. editing, creating, deleting, etc. across all three devices.
However, although all of my 1000+ contacts can be found on all three devices, only Address Book on the Mac displays my contacts in the correct Group, or in any Group for that matter.
For example, my brother's contact card is in a group called "Family" on Address Book on my Mac. Although the group "Family" also appears on the Contacts app on both of my iOS devices, his contact card is not in the group "Family"! However, if I look through "All Contacts" on either iOS device, his contact card is there; it's just not in the "Family" group where it is supposed to be. The bug is not isolated to this single contact; I have dozens of contacts that are not appearing in any group on either iOS device, yet they appear in the correct group on Address Book on my Mac.
Any ideas how I can fix this bug? I guess I should be thankful that the contact is even there, but if I can't count on iCloud to keep my "Groups" correctly synced, it kind of defeats the purpose of "Groups"...
    Bruno

I have a very similar issue across my 3 iCloud synced devices (Mac Pro, MacBook Pro and iPhone 3GS). The contacts themselves are mirrored beautifully across every device, but the groups are syncing erratically.
I have made quite a lot of changes to my groups this afternoon (bith adding/deleting groups and adding/deleting contacts). The changes I have made to the groups themselves show up fine across the three devices, but it is the contacts within them that are a little more ad-hoc! Quite a lot of them show up in the appropriate group on one device, but not on another.
    Can anyone shed any light?
    Dan

  • Unable to sync iCal with iphone 4S

    What a mess!!
I had Mobile me. It worked great. When it was shut down I tried to migrate to iCloud but it didn't work, I guess because I am running Snow Leopard. So I tried to just use iCloud to sync and it didn't work well, I ended up with multiple entries, missing entries, etc. So I scrapped that and went to syncing through itunes. When I upgraded my iphone 3GS to a 4S any old calendars on my mac that were part of mobile me wouldn't sync to the new phone, and I want all my past events there too. So I manually moved all the mobile me calendars in iCal to calendars I created on my mac. I deleted the old, then I redid the colors so that everything would make sense. Certain calendars synced, certain ones didn't, and the issue was not only mac to phone but phone to mac as well. So I manually made sure everything was on my mac and then hit the replace content on this iphone button thinking that it would just put everything back on my phone and now nothing is on my phone! It erased all my entries on my phone. It's all on my computer but nothing will sync to my iphone calendar. This is not what I expect from Apple. I have been a faithful apple user since before OSX, the first ipod, before the imac, and this is a huge problem and one of the main reasons I came to apple to begin with.
Can someone help me!! I need these two to sync for work purposes!

For resetting the sync history on a Mac running Lion - 10.7.x if needed.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627
If you see the Sync menu in the menu bar, skip to step 3:
If you do not see the Sync menu in your menu bar, skip to step 7.
Hold the Option key on your keyboard, then click the Sync menu in the menu bar:
if you see the Sync menu but you are unable to open it, skip to step 8.
    Choose Reset Sync Services.
    Click Reset Sync History.
Test for the original issue. If the issue persists, or if you are unable to open the Sync menu, follow these steps:
In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    Open Terminal.
In the Terminal window, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
    Press Return.
Quit Terminal after the operation has completed (when Terminal returns to the command prompt with a $).

  • Cannot sync iCal and iPhone in Leopard

    Hello,
iCal will not sync to my iPhone since upgrading to Leopard. I've restarted both iPhone and Mac repeatedly, but that hasn't helped. I've tried changing iPhone iCal sync settings but nothing works. All other information is synced, just not iCal.

Thanks so much for the advice.
Unfortunately, the problem persists. Syncing of iCal has been completely unstable ever since purchasing my iPhone both before Leopard and after. I just updated to 10.5.1 and the issue remains.
I have just deleted unwanted calendars - no improvement. I have reset the iPhone - no change. I have reset my iSync history - no effect.
This is a true case of Apple simply "just not working" instead of "just working". I've been a user since 1991 and an avid fan. Apple simply isn't the same company it used to be. I have a hard time advocating when something this basic to the PDA functionality consistently fails.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • HT4759 How do I get my calendar to Sync across my iPhone, IPad & Mac ?

I recently upgraded to Maverik. I used to be able to Sync my Calendar on my IPhone, IPad and Mac under Itunes. Maverick does not give me this option under Itunes, as it me be done in ICloud. ICloud is not syncing my calendat across all devices.

Open the Calendar app on your Mac and go to Calendar>Preferences>General and make sure the Default Calendar is set to an iCloud calendar and not an On My Mac calendar.  If it isn't, change the default to an iCloud calendar, then try adding a test event on your Mac calendar and see if it appears on icloud.com now.
If it doesn't, try adding any missing events from the calendar on your Mac to the calendar on icloud.com.  Once all the Mac events are on the calendar on icloud.com, go to System Preferences>iCloud, uncheck Calendar, choose Delete from Mac (they will still be in iCloud), restart your Mac, then go back and check Calendar again, add another test event and see if it syncs now.
If it still doesn't sync to icloud.com, go to System Preferences>iCloud, click Sign Out, choose Delete at all of the prompts, restart your Mac, then go back and sign back in.  (This deletes the account and iCloud data from your Mac, but not from iCloud.  Your data will reappear on your Mac when you sign back in.)

  • Syncing Videos to iPhone/iPad

I have videos recorded on a Canon PowerShot G10 in Aperture. How can I sync those to my iPad? iTunes transparently “optimizes” photos for my iPhone and iPad, but doesn't do the same for videos. How can I get iTunes (or Aperture) to do the same for videos being synced to mobile devices?

Don't you need the pro version of Quicktime to convert to iPod/iPad? Or is that now standard?

  • Unable to sync Ical from Iphone 4 to MacBook since updating to Itunes 11.

I am unable to sync Ical from my Iphone 4 to MacBook since updating to Itunes 11. (and yes, the Iphone shows up as recognised in the sidebar and will sync Ical from Macbook to Iphone.) All ideas welcome.

If Damon's suggestion of resetting sync history doesn't fix the problem you most likely have a bad contact record in iCal. When they sync encounters the bad record it doesn't know what to do with it so it stops. To fix it you must find the bad record, open it, make a small change, and save it. An easy way to find the bad record is to create a new group and set the iPhone to sync to this group. Put a few records into the group at a time, then sync. At some point the sync will fail or hang. You have then narrowed the problem to a few records.

  • Sync iCal and iPhone

I entered my whole calendar into iCal on MacBook running 10.4.10. All the events in iCal synced into the iPhone but all the times were wrong by 4 hours. Both my iPhone and iCal are set on Eastern Standard time so I can't understand the problem.

I saw this on another discussion--double check your settings and make sure the phone didn't go back to the default setting in Cupertino, CA.

  • Smart Playlists not syncing correctly to iPhone/iPad with iTunes Match

My manual playlists are syncing correctly to both devices, but smart playlists are a mess.  They don't seem to match any criteria that they are created with, especially song limits.  However, smart playlists are syncing correctly in iTunes on multiple computers.  This is really frustrating because 99% of my playlists I listen to are smart ones.  Anyone know of how to fix this?  Apple, do you have any information on this or when it would be fixed?

Guys, I might have our "life savior" solution!!! (not 100% sure yet...)
I activated iTunes Match this morning.
Everything worked well apart from my smart playlists which cannot be found on my iphone/ipad anymore.
And yes, they relied on other lists...
    BUT
A few smart playlists remained!!! (although they also rely on other lists)
So, after a bit of soul searching, here's my conclusion.
Those smart playlists that remained were actually dependant on "folders" which contain lists!
    SO
I havn't tested yet (cause I'm at work), but if you put a list you wish to refer to in a folder, you should then be able to refer the smart list to the folder and not the actual list; and hopefully the smart list should then get synced!!!
Let me know if that works for you!
