I have already tried
- upgrade latest patchset Linux 5 U8
- tried 'yum update --skip-broken'
- installed yum-utils and run
- 'package-cleanup --problems'
- 'package-cleanup --dupes'
- tried 'rpm -Va nofiles nodigest'
Any help is welcome.
Kind regards
Lorenz

Oracle Linux, like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, does not support upgrading from one major version to another, and you cannot use yum to perform the installation.
You can try using the installation DVD, but:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Installation_Guide/ch-upgrade-x86.html
Red Hat does not support in-place upgrades between any major versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. A major version is denoted by a whole number version change. In-place upgrades across major releases do not preserve all system settings, services or custom configurations. Consequently, Red Hat strongly recommends fresh installations when upgrading from one major version to another.

When we install Acroread 32 bit on oracle linux 6.1 64 bit vm's losing access to VNC console, seeing just black screen in console. I think 32 bit libraries is causing the issue. I would like to know if 64 bit Acroread is available to install on Oracle linux 6.1 64 bit vm's. We are using Oracle Application for printing pdf files which used acroread to open pdf files. Please suggest on this.

    Hi all.
I'd like to upgrade an Oracle Linux OS with unbreakable linux kernel.

  • Oracle Linux Patching/Updates Impact on Oracle Database

I have several questions regarding Oracle Linux patching and its impact on Oracle Database.
    3 node Cluster
Operating System: Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2
    Kernel: 2.6.18-92.1.22.0.1.el5 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Grid Infrastructure: Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.2)
Database: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition (11.2.0.2) with RAC option
ASM with ASMLib is being used for Data and FRA.
*1)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying only Security Patches require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*2)* Given your at Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2, will applying Bug Fixes and Security Patches to Oracle Linux 5 update 2 require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
*3)* Given your updating from Oracle Linux Release 5 update 2 to Oracle Linux Release 5 update 8, will this require any changes to ASMLib, Oracle Grid Infrastructure and/or Oracle Database (software binaries, configuration etc.)?
I would most whole heartedly appreciate if someone could answer the specific questions asked, inline if possible. Our System Administrator is preparing to perform some patching and as the DBA I'd like to be certain what changes I need to prepare for? I also have a single instance database setup with Oracle Restart. I don't know if this impacts the answers above.
    Thanks in advance.

How do you plan to apply Oracle Linux security patches? As far as I'm aware the yum security plug-in does not work with the Oracle public yum repository and there is no really feasible way to automate and determine security related patches only, unless you setup Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (11g) or Cloud (12c)  and have a subscription to Oracle ULN.
If you upgrade your Oracle Linux to the latest available version using the public yum repository, all patches, including errata will be applied. You cannot apply patches and stay on a specific release version unless you have a subscription and appropriate yum repository access.
As far as I'm aware there are no changes required to your Oracle database or ASM setup and configuration when updating the OS, provided the version of the Oracle database is supported for the specific OS version (ASM features like ADVM/ACFS are kernel version depending). Upgrading from one major release to another, such as upgrading Oracle Linux 5 to Oracle Linux 6 is not supported and will require upgrading the Oracle Database to 11.2.0.3. You can check the Oracle database certification matrix to determine which Oracle database release version is required for which OS version http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/relnotes.112/e23558/toc.htm
The relinking of Oracle Database binaries is a common practice when updating the OS. I do not think it is necessary under Linux. Oracle binaries are typically standalone applications, or use Oracle provided libraries, or in some cases use OS shared libraries, which does not require relinking of Oracle binaries. Upgrading the Oracle database software of course requires relinking.

I want to upgrade my OS from official repository on Primary and Standby Servers. And I have a question:
Will I have a problem with my RDBMS after upgrade OS (e.g. statuses in dba_registry will become INVALID)?

    It's Ok.
    Now I have:
    $ cat /etc/issue
    Oracle Linux Server release 6.4
    No any problem.

  • Install HRCS 9.0 R5 with Linux Issue: upgrade Database HRCS 9.0 from PT8.52 to PT8.53

    Folks,
Hello. I have been installing HCM and Campus Solution 9.0 with PeopleTools8.53. Server machine is Oracle Linux 5.10 and client machine is Windows XP.  My internet architecture is WebLogic11g/Tuxedo11g/OracleDatabase 11gR1. Peopletools 8.53 runs correctly in browser.
In Oracle Linux 5.10 Database Server machine, I run the scripts "createdb10.sql, utlspace.sql, hrcddl.sql, dbowner.sql, psroles.sql, psadmin.sql and connect.sql" one by one. Then I use Data Mover to load data from Windows XP into Oracle Linux 5.10 DB instance HRCS90. The Data Mover script hrcs90ora.dms completes successfully in Windows XP. Configuration Manager is set up correctly.  But when I login into Application Designer, I cannot login and get the message as below:
"Security Table Manager (Get): The database is at release 8.52.  The PeopleTools being run require databases at release 8.53."
I have been following the document http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E37306_02/psft/acrobat/PeopleTools-8.53-Upgrade_02-2013.pdf to upgrade HCM and Human Resources 9.0 Revision 5 Database Instance HRCS90 in Oracle Database Server with Linux. I have been following chapter 4 task by task to do. Actually, I have run 4 scripts into HRCS90 as below:
Task 4-3-5: run rel853.sql at SQL> in Linux.
Task 4-3-6: run grant.sql at SQL> in Linux.
Task 4-5-3: run ddlora.dms in Windows XP Data Mover into HRCS90.
Task 4-6: run msgtlsupg.dms in Windows XP Data Mover into HRCS90.
Then need to run Task 4-7 to copy project ppltls84cur Project in Application Designer. When login into Application Designer with Database HRCS90 and UserID and pwd PS, I get the same error message as below:
"The database is at release 8.52. The PeopleTools being run require Database at release 8.53."
Application Designer is supposed to login by Task 4-7 to copy projects but it cannot. I have tried to fing out what's wrong as below:
In task 4-1-3: I cannot run script dbtsfix.sqr in Linux and Windows XP.
In task 4-1-9: script ptupgibdel.sql does not have the string "End of PT8.53". There is no script ptupgibdel853.sql to run.
In task 4-3-6: when run script grant.sql, table PSSTATUS and PSACCESSPRFL don't exist. There is only PSOPRDEFN table.
I continue to do task by task in chapter 4 until task 4-27 that's the end, but Application Designer still cannot login. All of Application Engine Programs and SQR Programs cannot run.
    My questions are:
First, does Oracle Database HRCS90 has table PSOPRDEFN only without table PSSTATUS and PSACCESSPRFL ?
Second, what's the error by task 4-7 when Application Designer still cannot login ?
Third, why Application Designer still cannot login a the end of doing chapter 4 task 4-27 ? How to solve the issue ?
    Thanks.
    Thanks.

I'm not quite sure what you are missing, but it looks like you missed a script which could cause problems.  You need to look through your logs for errors. Are you running rel853 as the AccessID user?  I don't know how you would trash PSSTATUS in this process.
    You don't mention running this.
    Task 4-3-2:  Creating Tablespaces
This step runs the PTDDLUPG script, which builds new tablespaces as part of the upgrade to the new PeopleSoft release.
It creates tablespace PSIMAGE2, which doesn't exist in the datamover load you did.  Oracle moves and puts around 208 tables here when you run rel853 from what I see.
The first line of rel853 is
    UPDATE PSSTATUS SET TOOLSREL='8.53',
                      LASTREFRESHDTTM = SYSDATE
This is what changes the tools release, sometimes people just run this one update to gain quick and dirty access to a different version.
I pulled this download and ran through it myself without incident doing all the steps you say, adding in 4-3-2 which you seemed to have skipped.  I built a system database.
    My hcengs.log shows
    Importing  PSSTATUS
    Creating Table  PSSTATUS
    Import  PSSTATUS  1
    Building required indexes for PSSTATUS
    Updating statistics for PSSTATUS
    Records remaining: 7686
    After import, PSSTATUS is
    SQL> select toolsrel from sysadm.psstatus;
    TOOLSREL
    8.52
    After running rel853n it's now
    SQL> COMMIT
      2  ;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> SPOOL OFF
    SQL> select toolsrel from sysadm.psstatus;
    TOOLSREL
    8.53
I ran the other 3 quick scripts.  Not sure if it was necessary, but I reset the passwords and re-encrypted them with the new 8.53 datamover for the new salted encryption and fired up app designer.  It works.  By the way, you should probably run rel853n, it utilizes "newer" (for PeopleSoft that is) data-types than just rel853.sql that were delivered with the 9.0 application line.  Since this is a new 9.0 based app build it should be used.

  • New installation woes - SQLDeveloper on Oracle Linux x64 and Oracle 11g XE

Note that as an experienced Oracle developer in enterprise environments running MS Windows OS, I am familiar with SQLDeveloper for Windows. I don't have a lot of experience with Linux however. I don't find it intimidating, I just don't have a lot of accumulated knowledge.
I have recently been trying to set up a development environment on my Windows7 Professional x64 laptop.
    1. Installed Oracle VBox
    2. Installed Oracle Linux 5.2 inside the VBox (because Oracle 11g XE is not certified on 64 bit Windows, needed to go with a Linux OS)
    3. Installed Oracle DB 11.2 XE
    4. Installed JDK as instructed in the SQLDeveloper release notes for Linux x64
    5. Installed SQLDeveloper 3.1.07.42-1
No apparent issues with any of the installations.
Problem : I can run SQL Plus from the command line, but when I click on the icon for SQLDeveloper, nothing happens. No error messages, nothing else.
Question #1 : Unsure how to debug/troubleshoot this. Will read through the installation and release notes for SQLDeveloper, but any suggestions would be welcome.
Question #2 : Could this be due to an issue with the JDK installation? It appeared to be successful (no obvious issues) but I can't see anything in the Oracle Linux menu system that tells me the JDK was installed successfully. How can I confirm that the JDK installation was successful?
Edited by: Peter Hartgerink on Jun 19, 2012 9:12 AM

    >
The Linux x64 version of SQLDeveloper doesn't come bundled with JDK. There is a version of JDK recommended, with an advisory to install it before installing SQLDeveloper. This I did, with apparent success. I guess I'll have to install the JDK again and check my Java versions afterwards. Thanks.
    >
I don't know what JDK you downloaded since you didn't say. What version was it? Post the link.
I find it hard to believe that the JDK version recommended was 1.4.2 since that is an ANCIENT version of Java, you have to hunt to even find it for download and most importantly the sql developer main download page clearly announces what version of Java is needed.
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/downloads/index.html
    >
    JDK Support
Oracle SQL Developer 3.1 is shipped with JDK1.6.0_11. However, you can connect to and use any JDK 1.6.0_11 or above. To use an existing JDK, download the zip files listed below "with JDK already installed."
    >
As you can see you need JDK 1.6.0_11 or above.
If the version you say was recommended was actually 1.4.2 then that is an error; post the details so the developers can get that error fixed.
I don't know what is on your system and can only go by the information you provide
    >
    4. Installed JDK as instructed in the SQLDeveloper release notes for Linux x64
    java version "1.4.2"
    >
You either downloaded version 1.4.2, which seems unlikely, or your Linux included 1.4.2 and it is being used when you try to launch sql developer.
Perhaps your system now has multiple versions of Java on it but the version being used by sql developer is the wrong one. If so that is the issue you need to resolve.

  • Upgrade Oracle 9i on Solaris to Oracle 10g (Oracle 10.2.0.1) Red Hat Linux

At present we are maintaining a J2EE application running on a UNIX Platform with the following environment configuration:
    o Web Server (Apache 2.0.52)
o Application Server (WebLogic Server 9.0)
o Database Server (Oracle 9i RAC)
The current requirement is to upgrade Oracle 9i on UNIX to Oracle 10g (Oracle 10.2.0.1) on Linux. Will there be any impact on
-> Oracle developer applications (Forms/Reports) because of oracle upgrade?
-> .net applications accessing oracle because of oracle upgrade?
-> Java applications accessing oracle because of oracle upgrade?
-> compatibility issues resulting from the differences in the Oracle database versions
Any pointers on this will be really helpful.

Download patch set from metalink and extract patch into some directory.
Then from that directory run "Opatch install". ( You need to shutdown all database and other service while upgrading code tree)

  • Upgrade oracle 10.2.0.3 32bit to oracle 11.1.7 x64

    Hi There,
I'm trying to upgrade from oracle 10.2.0.3 to 11.1.7 and I'm wondering what's the best way of doing this.
THe problem is that production server is windows 2003 server 32 bit running oracle 10.2.0.3 standard edition.
The new server is windows 2008 server, 64bit. I have managed to install oracle 11.1.7 on it, so my question is what's teh best approach to do the DB migration? does it matter if the old DB files are in 32bit?
I couldnt find oracle 10.2.0.3 x64 on the oracle site as I was thinking of installing that on the new machine, do cold backup of DB and copy all the files to the new server, startup the DB on the new server, and then run DBUA.
I also managed to install oracle 10.2.0.4 on the new server, is it possible to dpow the foolowing:
    1. cold backup the DB on the current production server.
    2. move the backup to the new server
    3. using 10.2.0.4 executables, do startup mount
    4. rename datafiles from old location to new location
    5. shutdown immediate
    6. startup upgrade
    7. run @?/rdbms/admin/catupgrd.sql
would the above work? any concerns? or tips? or any advises please?
    Thanks

Mohammed at al, you are not correct - sorry to say that but a 32=>64-bit change will be handled implicitly by the database by invalidating packages etc.
    Your way would be:
    1) Run utlu111i.sql from your new %OH%\rdbms\admin installation on your "old" 10.2. installation (copy it over and run it from SQL*Plus 10.2)
If you have just an spfile then do a 'create pfile from spfile;' to have an editable copy of your spfile.
    2) Shutdown your 10.2. database IMMEDIATE
    3) Copy all relevant files (database files, password file, control files, redolog files and spfile/init.or) to your new server into the identical location
    - if you plan to choose a different location then you'll have to trace the controlfile before on your old server and create a new controlfile
in the new installation to reflect to the new file locations
    4) Create a new service on the new server with: oradim -NEW -SID yoursid -SYSPWD passwrd -STARTMODE a -PFILE initfile
    5) Create a new listener service on your new server with "netca"
    6) Make all suggested changes from the utlu111i.sql script output to your init.ora.
    7) Startup your database in upgrade mode 'startup upgrade'
    8) Run 'catupgrd.sql'
    9) Once it has been finished then the db will be shutdown - startup normal and run 'utltp.sql' and 'catuppst.sql' in parallel from 2 SQL*Plus sessions
    10) Check with 'utlu111s.sql' if everything has been upgraded successfully.
    Have fun :-)
    Kind regards
    Mike

  • Issue in Upgrading Oracle APEX 2.1 to 3.1

    Hi,
I have recently installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition (Oracle Database XE) which includes Oracle Application Express (Oracle APEX) release 2.1
I have upgraded from Oracle APEX 2.1 to 3.1 by following instructions in http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/3.1_and_xe.html
Following is the sequence of steps I followed
    1. @apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
    2. @APEX_HOME/apex/apxldimg.sql APEX_HOME
    3. @APEX_HOME/apex/apxxepwd.sql password
Now Oracle Database express home page changes to
    http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f?p=4550:1:723721796272276
All gif logos are missing and font appears differently. More importantly nothing happens after entering workspace/username/password and clicking login button. I am using internet exlorer 7 and it says "Error on Page" on the bottom status bar.
Please let me know if any one encounterd similar issue and if you were able to fix the issue.
    Thanks for your help
    RSNAIK

    Hello,
For all of you who have the same problem that we had.
After two installs and desinstall, I have finally found what to do.
You must stop the OracleXETNSListener service when upgrading Oracle Database 10g Express Edition.
Here the steps to follow assuming that you have installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition into C:\oraclexe
and unzipped apex_3.1.2 into C:\apex on a Windows XP System :
    1. On Windows XP, Startup Menu, go to the Configuration panel, open Administration Tools, open Services, then you will click on the OracleXETNSListener service, stop it.
    2. On Windows XP, Startup Menu, select Execute, type cmd and press OK to open a DOS window.
    3. At the DOS prompt, type cd apex.
    4. At the DOS prompt, type sqlplus /nolog
    5. At the SQL prompt, type connect SYS as SYSDBA
    6. Type the password of the user SYSTEM that you choose when installing Oracle XE.
    7. At the SQL prompt, type *@apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/* (may take 15 minutes or more)
    8. At the DOS prompt, be sure to be in the apex directory (C:\apex) then type sqlplus /nolog
    9. At the SQL prompt, type connect SYS as SYSDBA
    10. Type the password of the user SYSTEM that you choose when installing Oracle XE.
    11. At the SQL prompt, type *@apxchpwd*
    12. Choose a password for ADMIN, type it then press Enter
    13. At the SQL prompt, type *@apxldimg* C:\ (you will perhaps obtain a message like an error but the upgrade works fine)
    14. At the SQL prompt, type *@apxxepwd* password (where password is the ADMIN password choosen at step 12)
    15. At the SQL prompt, type quit
    16. At the DOS prompt, type exit
    17. Then go to the OracleXETNSListener service and start it.
To connect as ADMIN, type the url http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex/apex_admin
    username : ADMIN
    password : your admin password
You will be able to create workspaces (schemas) and users
Now you will be able to connect to APEX at http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
workspace : your login name (workspace created in apex_admin)
username : your login name (user created in apex_admin)
password : your password (password defined for the user in apex_admin)
I hope that this steps will be clear for all of you.
Thank you to user10570446 who have provided a clear step through. So that I'd take the time to clarified my solution to my type of configuration.
I hope that RSNAIK has been able to make the upgrade to APEX 3.1.2.
    Good day to everyone

  • Install HRCS 9.0 R5 with Linux Issue: Upgrade HRCS 9.0 Database PT8.52 to PT8.53

    Folks,
    My questions are:
First, does Oracle Database HRCS90 has table PSOPRDEFN only without table PSSTATUS and PSACCESSPRFL ?
Second, what's the error by task 4-7 when Application Designer still cannot login ?

The first line of rel853 is
    UPDATE PSSTATUS SET TOOLSREL='8.53',
                      LASTREFRESHDTTM = SYSDATE
This is what changes the tools release, sometimes people just run this one update to gain quick and dirty access to a different version.
I pulled this download and ran through it myself without incident doing all the steps you say, adding in 4-3-2 which you seemed to have skipped.  I built a system database.
    My hcengs.log shows
    Importing  PSSTATUS
    Creating Table  PSSTATUS
    Import  PSSTATUS  1
    Building required indexes for PSSTATUS
    Updating statistics for PSSTATUS
    Records remaining: 7686
    After import, PSSTATUS is
    SQL> select toolsrel from sysadm.psstatus;
    TOOLSREL
    8.52
    After running rel853n it's now
    SQL> COMMIT
      2  ;
    Commit complete.
    SQL> SPOOL OFF
    SQL> select toolsrel from sysadm.psstatus;
    TOOLSREL

  • Install HRCS 9.0 R5 with Linux Issue: upgrade HRCS 9.0 PT8.52 to PT8.53

    Folks,

  • Upgrade Oracle 11.1.0.6.0 x64 to Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 for Windows Server 2008

    Hi,
I am a little confused because I have Windows Server 2008 64 bit operating system and had installed Oracle 11g 11.1.0.6.0 (x64) prior to the Oracle 11g 11.1.0.7.0 for Windows Server 2008 install package becoming available.
My database needs no backup of data as it is a fresh installation so its removal is not a problem.
To now upgrade to Oracle 11g 11.1.0.7.0 for Windows Server 2008 do I need to
    a) Uninstall Oracle 11.1.0.6.0 (x64) and then install Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 on Windows Server 2008
    or
    b) Apply patch 6890831 (will this upgrade from 11.1.0.6.0 x64 to 11.1.0.7.0 for Windows Server 2008?)
Any help much appreciated as having looked at documentation I am still confused what I need to do.
    Thanks.
