Issue with 30GB Photo

My iPod froze, so I attempted to restart it but got the Sad face icon. I plugged it in to restore it, but my computer will not read the iPod in iTunes or My Computer. It won't go into Disk Mode because the sad face icon comes up too quickly, then restarts it again.
I've already had my iPod replaced twice because of this same problem. Is there any solution at all?

  • Has anyone with OS X 10.7.5 had issues with corrupt photos?

We are suddenly experiencing an issue with our iMac where photos we have taken recently are now coming up with the image below.  They appear fine at first in the finder view but as soon as we open them they turn into the below and then others in the same folder do the same.  We copied the files to another computer and it opens the same.  Apple Support is having me do an OS reeinstall, but I want to know if others are having the same issue.

    Hello Drew,
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Issue with Windows Photo Viewer: "can't save picture because an unknown error occured"

    Hi,
I recently installed Windows 7 RC (Build 7100). I quite often have an issue in Windows Photo Viewer when rotating an image and trying to go to the next picture. It gives me the error "Windows Photo Viewer can't save picture because an unknown error occured".
Seperate from this issue: when I delete a picture in Windows Photo Viewer, it is still in the Windows Explorer overview of files. This did not use to be the case in Windows XP?
    Kind regards,
    Frederik

    Hi
    SOSv2 ,
This should be fixed in Windows 7 RTM.
Also, you can install Windows Live Photo Gallery to view and rotate pictures as well. To download it, please click
HERE . For more information about Windows Live Photo Gallery, you can

In addition, please understand that Nikon RAW images (and most Canon) do not support rotate functionality in Windows Photo Viewer, and thus rotate is
disabled. To rotate those types of images, the user will need to use an image editing program that fully supports their RAW codec.
    Regards,
    Linda
I am using Win 7 x64 Ultimate RTM and still have this problem (with JPG's dumped from my Nikon to the hard drive).  Doesn't do it on every one that I rotate, but still very annoying.  Is there a fix?

  • Sleep problem with 30GB photo

I have a 30GB Photo, and if I let it sit like overnight, it goes into some sort of sleep mode. When you hit the button to turn it on, the silver apple on black background comes on and the hard drive spins up and when it finishes its killed off almost a 1/4 of my battery life.
Is there any way to disable this so that I wont have to charge this sucker so quickly?

What you are experiencing is sleep/deep sleep and there is no way to disable this.

If you are judging the battery life by using the icon, then wait a few minutes and you should find it returns to normal.

  • Trouble with 30Gb Photo

first time posting on here... I looked back through a few page to see if this issue had already been addressed.
A few days ago, my 30Gb iPod Photo started skipping songs on its own. So after resetting it, it lost all it's content. I've read a couple troubleshooting guides about the computer not recognizing the iPod, but still haven't yet found a way to restore my iPod.
When using the updater, I get many different error messages such as "Can't mount iPod" or "iPod service error"
I've tried re installing just about every iPod related software on my computer, as well as trying to Format my iPod (which I can't even do).
I'm hoping I don't have to send this out for service, as my warranty expired 6 days ago...
    Can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,
    Alex

The Sad iPods icon or folder with an exclamation mark are the toughest problems to deal with, and must do a Restore in order to fix it. However, when your iPod is showing this icon, it is probably too late for your computer to recognize the iPod.
    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do an Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a format with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer). You may need to plug and unplug your iPod with the computer for several attempts, and switching around Format and Restore, and hope out of sudden, it will get recognized.
    9. Diagnostic mode solution – which I copied from a thread of a post from thinktwice
“Then I cam across this special Diganostics Mode that you can get to by resetting and then while the Apple is showing pressing the Select and backwards keys simultaneously. It bring up and weird Diagnostic utility witha a abunch of tests. Here is what I did
    - I tried the 5in1 test and got and error on Firewire.
    - I did the HDD R/W and surprisingly it passed.
    - I went on to the HDD scan. This supposedly tkaes acouple of minute so I waited. I think 4-5 dots appeared then nothing. The iPod started to get hot. THe disk was spinning away. After a while the battery got very low. THis test chews up the battery. So I escaped out by resetting and went to connect it to a power source.
My USB was dangling out of my computer and I was too lazy to get the Firewire AC adapter thing going so I connected expecting the whole lockup thing with iTunes. Surprise. IT was recognized immediately and has been working like a champ. So go figure.
Details on Diag mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/index.shtml
10.Let me ask you a question, if an iPod with no iPod software with it. When your connect it with a computer, what would happen?
Yeah, the computer will treat it as a fresh external hard disk, which will get force mounted, the computer will ask you to format the iPod. It does not really matter the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted iPod software on the iPod, after that the computer will recognize it.
Once it has been completed, eject your iPod, open the iPod updater and interestingly, you will able to do the Restore this time.
Base on the above, that's why I suggest Windows users who experience trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac machine or vice versa. PC computer will not recognize a Mac formatted iPod, but it will get mounted in an attempt to format your iPod.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.
I have just read an interesting solution about the Sad iPod, it does make sense but the warranty will be waived once you open the iPod, I would not do it myself as I am not good on doing this

  • Issues with exporting photos to be edited in Photoshop CS6 from Lightroom 5.6 using Yosemite OS.

Suddenly, I'm unable to edit my photos from Lightroom 5.6 in Photoshop CS6.  I have recently converted from Mavericks to Yosemite OS.  But, I haven't had any issues for the past week or two.   Now, whenever I try to Edit photos from Lightroom 5.6 in Photoshop CS6, either nothing happens.  Or from the drop down menu, the option to Edit in Photoshop CS6 is greyed out.  Both Lightroom and Photoshop are the latest versions.  I've even uninstalled, and reinstalled Photoshop CS6 without any improvement.  Help!!!

Sorry, I was wrong about the check box, that only works if you are importing images from a memory card.  If they are already in the catalogue, they will be greyed out in either case.
"I'm pretty confident therefore that it is not in the catalog but it appears that Lightroom for some reason thinks it is."  Well I can't read Lightroom's mind, but I think that Lightroom thinking it is in the catalog is the same thing as it being in the catalog.
When you still have the edited file open in Photoshop CS6, after you have edited and saved it as "IMG_4312-edit.tif," what happens if you try "save as," does it bring you to the correct folder to save it in?  If you try to save as without changing the name does it ask if you want to overwrite the original?  Can you now save it with a new name (e.g. "IMG_4312-Edit2.tif") and have it show up?
You type above, "IMG_4312.CRW, I do some edits in Lightroom but I want to do some more in Photoshop so I send it to the PS CS6 from within Lightroom. The image opens, I make my edits and I click Save. This creates  a new file called IMG_431-Edit.tif."  4312 vs. 431 just make sure you aren't making the same small mistake when searching for the file.

  • Issues with still photos (size/cropping) in IMovie

    Hi,
I been searching and despite trying to solve this issue myself and through taking the advice given in similar posts, I still have not been able to resolve this issue.
When making a video/movie, my still pictures get cut up. The tops are noticeably cut and I didn't crop anything. I played with the widescreen vs. normal options, and still, tops are definitely cut off. There are several portrait or people pictures that are taken vertically instead of the "normal" horizontally for size or angle reasons. Another thing to note is that I do have a WIDE ANGLE camera. Some pictures it is absolutely essential that I have the FULL photo in, so what do I do?????? I been here for HOURS trying "trial and error" and I am getting soooo frustrated. ANd who is this Ken Burns guy?
I am learning here but need some assistance. Thanks!

You can disable Ken Burns by going to the Rotate, Crop, Ken Burns Tab in the Inspector and choosing FIT or CROP. FIT will force your photo to fit the aspect ratio of the movie by adding black space.
CROP will chop off the top or bottom to make it fit. You will want to FIT.
Unless you would like to use the Ken Burns effect.....read on.
As you have observed, neither of these are ideal for portrait-oriented photos.
In iPhoto, the Ken Burns effect will automatically add black space so that portrait photos will work. However, in iMovie, there is no way to automatically add black space for Ken burns.
You can go into a photo editor like photoshop and add black bars to the side so that Ken Burns will work properly.
There is a way to do this automatically, and without using Photoshop, if you take the time to learn how to use Automator, which is a workflow tool that comes with your Mac.
(You can find Automator by clicking the spotlight magnifying lass at the top right of your screen. Then type in Automator.)
Set up an Automator Workflow to
    1. Ask for Photos (You must select one or more photos and hit Select - you can make this easier by putting them in an album beforehand)
    2. Copy Finder Items (give it a folder to copy to- so you can find them easily)
    3. Pad Images. (put a check mark in "scale image before padding" and set for dimensions of your project.
Hit Run and a dialog box will come up asking you to select photos. When you are finished, press SELECT and the Automator script will keep running.
Then at the end you should have padded images in the folder you created in step 2.
Before you try Automator, take a look at [this website for some tutorials and videos.|http://automator.us/leopard>
There is a [Good Website here that includes Automator and Services for Snow Leopard|http://www.macosxautomation.com/index.html]
Here is the [Apple Discussions group for Automator|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1261]
If you create an Automator Workflow that you like, and you have Snow Leopard, you can create a SERVICE so that when you select a Photo in iPhoto or the Finder and right-click, your Workflow will be available on the contextual menu.

I have an iPhone 4. I am having an issue send photos by text. Sometimes they go thru somes not.

Last point...who archives? On my regular email page I now have the Archive icon to the left of my Delete icon which I would prefer was to the left, first in the line as this is the icon I use mostly. With Folders, my Sent and Trash lists, who needs to archive?
I can help you only with the placement of the icon placement -- if you right-mouse click on the toolbar, then select Customize Toolbar, you can move an icon to where you want it to be.

  • New and odd issue with edited photos

How much do I hate iPhoto, let me count the ways.
Another new issue for me. My DSLR has a lot of dust on the lens I cannot shift which means I get a lot of annoying blemishes on my photos that I go through on iPhoto to retouch. Slow but has to be done.
I imported a pile of recent holiday photos and started to edit them fullscreen. Coming back into them now showing them at fullscreen or fullscreen within a windowed iPhoto and the edits don't look like they have saved, all the original blemishes are there. However I click on edit, the pic shrinks down a little to accomodate the Edit box and it now correctly shows the proper edited versions with blemishes removed and other changes I made.
I export the photo and the original blemished one gets exported.
Any thoughts?  I bet I am going to have to re-import the originals and lose all my editing. That's the stock way for me with this poor piece of software.
    C.

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.
    If that fails:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Issues with importing photos as "Add" or "Copy."

I can no longer import images as "Add" or "Copy."  Can only do it as DNG---used to have no issues, but some setting has changed. Tech support could not resolve this issue.  Can anyone help me with this?

If I were to delete LR from my computer, and then reinstall 5.5, would I lose the pics currently in my LR catalog?
I cannot think of how uninstalling/reinstalling might help, and it seems to me that it is a waste of time right now.
Your photos are not stored in Lightroom.
You lose nothing by uninstalling/reinstalling, other than your own time.

  • Earlier Issue with 30Gb Ipod Video

Hey, I have a 5th generation 30Gb Ipod video. I recently went out and bought a new 2.0 USB port for a PCI slot for my Ipod since I only had a 1.1 before that.
Well my problem is, I had it plugged in last night and it had the do not disconnect screen on the ipod for about an hour, so I pulled it out without ejecting it, and later on it said that windows said that the device was not able to be identified and was malfunction try unplugging it and plugging it back in, I did that and it still would work, so I restarted my PC and got it to work, then about a hour later I was uploading some photos and it gave me the same message, so I just turned off my PC and went to bed as it was getting late.
This morning when I woke up I thought maybe it was just the port so I unplugged and plugged it back into a different 2.0 port since I got 4 with that card I bought, I then left for school and came back to find that my Ipod is working like nothing happened since I changed it's port.
I just want to know if I should pull out that warrenty card and get a new one or if that message was just because the one port could recognize something was there, but not able to tell what device it is.

  • ANYONE HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR PHOTOS APPEARANCE ON IPODS WITH VISTA!!!

so the issue isn't i-tunes or the ipod the issue is the size of the photo. Make a seperate file for your ipod phots and copy all the photos you want to be on your ipod into the folder, then open every photo in paint and press ctrl+W and keep resizing till the photo is a little bit bigger then your ipod screen (make sure you use the same numbers for the horizontal and vertical side or else it'll distort the picture). i usually start with 50 percent and do it till its a little bit bigger then my screen, then save it. it takes a little bit to do but it works i promise just don't make them to small cause you ipod will stretch this hope this helps other people out!!! it stinks i know but for me its worth it i love my photos

It is a fairly simple item to deal with. Get a can of compressed air, the type you would use on your keyboard. Turn off your device and spray the air onto the home button. You can try and blow into as well. Sometimes dust or small particles get stuck behind the button.

  • IPhoto - issues with export photos

I have recently added a QNAP NAS to my home network and am playing with the TWONKY / DLNA Media Server.
Would like to put a copy of all of my photos onto the NAS so that I can share them from the server to DLNA apps
I am trying to use "File / Export" from iPhoto to send the whole library to the NAS
I have tried twice now and each time I get as far as about 3,500 photos when the following happens:
I have over 28K photos in my library
Is there an easier way to share them to the NAS than the way I am trying and why am I getting these fails ?

The "Unable to create" error message is very typical for a problem caused by incompatible file systems.  Your NAS will have a filesystem that is different from MacOS Extended (Journaled). I that case filenames and folder names, that are acceptable on your Mac may be ambiguous and cause conflicts on the NAS.
I get as far as about 3,500 photos
Try to find out, what the next file or folder would have been, that stopped the export. Look at the folders, that have been created correctly, and than look in the iPhoto library, to see the next file or folder, that should have been created. Is there something unusual about the filename or folder name? Ethnic characters? A very long file name? Ctrl characters in the name? If you can identify the problematic item, try to skip it and continue exporting with the next items.
Or use a different naming scheme for the export - use a custom name instead of "event name" and "original filename".

  • Filtering issue with "Show photos in subfolders" option

    Hi,
Maybe I missed something but there's a problem I'm unable to solve...
I have disabled the "Show photos in subfolders" option in the Library module because I don't want LR to systematically display all photos each time I hover the root folder or a folder containing multiple subfolders: this is time consuming and slows down the software very much.
However, there's an unwanted side effect of this choice: I can no longer do a global search from the filtering panel. The filtering criteria that are available there are related to the photos located in the currently selected folder. Even when selecting the root folder (which actually doesn't contain any photo but only subfolders), I can't select for example all photos from a given camera or captured at a given date. Actually, since the root folder is empty, there's no filtering option at all.
Even when the "Show photos in subfolders" option is disabled, we should have the possibility to make a global search without having to re-enable this option first and then disabling it when we're done. Again, I may have missed something obvious and I know that solving this problem might not be that easy. Anyway, if a solution exists...
    Thanks in advance.

Clicking on any folder is a kind of a filter-search already; regardless of whether you are also showing images in subfolders, or not.
The All Photographs virtual collection will allow you to filter-search the entire Library. Any other use of the filter bar is not really a search; it is a refinement of an existing search. So in the case of viewing a given folder, if you want to view images with given properties even that fall outside this folder, you will first need to abandon that folder view - this seems to me, to be inherent.
IIRC at or near the "breadcrumbs" display at the left end of the filmstrip, you can get at a little history menu of previously visited collections and folders (sorry, I cannot check the specifics just now). So you could view a folder, then recall a whole-catalog view and filter that for your lens or whatever, then go back to your single-folder view that way - still with that filter active, until you clear it.
As to using the filtering, I find it handy to make some saved filter presets for commonly used search criteria (like lenses), including also a "no filters" option. Once set up, these can be readily accessed on the fly, at the right end of the filmstrip, without needing to go into Grid or use the filter bar at all. So in combination with a recent history of where you have been, it may be possible to get closer to what the OP has in mind.
