Issue with brand new iPod Nano 7g No Phone, can't contact Apple

Hi everyone,
I just got my brand new iPod Nano the other day, when I opened it up and took the sticker off, I saw a large scratch down the screen. That was annoying enough but the scratch affects the touchscreen ability and it's very tough to ignore.
So like a normal person I want to contact Apple to try and resolve this, but I've hit another barrier. I only have one phone, a mobile and that's bust up. No way I can take or recieve calls unless I become psychic as the speaker and mic are broken. So i'm wondering if there's any other way I can contact Apple?
My nearest Apple store is about a 2 hour drive away as I live in the middle of nowhere, helpfully...
Totally new to this place so any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Either borrow a cell or a landline phone.  I find it hard to believe no one in your neighborhood, family, school or job have no phone.

  • New ipod nano (6th gen) question - can it do apple remote?

I was wondering if the new ipod nano touch (announced sept 2010) can install apple's Remote app to control itunes? It would be awesome to have such a small remote control for itunes.

    Hi Subw00er,
From what I see on the iPod nano spec page, it doesn't do apps. It's a music/picture/podcast player.

  • Brand new ipod nano will work when attached by cable either to a power adaptor or usb port but stops immediately when disconnected, despite being put on charge with different adaptors. Battery indicator remains constantly on lightning flas symbol and whit

My Brand New ipod nano (sold to me two days ago by Apple as replacement for previous ipod nano -15 months old and therefore out of warranty - which had suddenly stopped functioning altogether) will operate only when attached by cable to either power adapter, usb port on my laptop or when playing on a docking station. When detached, it stops playing and screen goes dark and it will not respond to any buttons, despite being charged several times for many hours on different chargers. The battery indicator stays on lightning flash symbol on white background and has only momentarily shown fully charged symbol once !
I am baffled as to why this new ipod has a similar problem to the old ipod.
Is there a virus out there which can have this effect and which I may have picked up on my Pc and have inadvertently transferred to both ipods when sync-ing ?
My PC has Norton anti-virus software.
    Any suggestions , please ?

Sounds like the Nano has a faulty battery.  You should be able to have Apple swap it out again for you at no cost.

  • Can't see brand new iPod Nano in Windows!!!

I just bought a brand new iPod Nano (2nd Gen) for my daughter for Christmas, and right out of the box it would not be recognized by Windows XP or iTunes -- even though another iPod Nano (1st Gen) that we own did connect. It was charging though.
I used this forum looking for answers and although helpful, there was an awful lot of misleading advice. I finally called the help line 1-800-275-2273 on this website http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
What I was told was to simply go through the reset process (which I had ignored because it seemed too simple). The steps are to flip the hold button a couple of times and then hold the menu and select (center) button down at the same time for 10 seconds. The iPod will power back up and be reset.
What this tells me is that Apple has a problem with the software originally loaded on these iPods, but at least this simple procedure solved the problem. I thought I would come back here and provide you with the solution to this problem -- hopefully saving you a lot of time! Good luck!!

I agree with you, Apple to me has some type of problem with their iPods. I've used some type of computer device since 1971, and in all this time, I have never used a device such as the iPod with so many quirks.
I tell you one thing the iPod makes you think!!! O;-D
I'm afraid to buy Apple Care because during the 1st year of owning an iPod you get support that really is not much help. Within the 1st year of owning an iPod, a customer can purchase the Apple Care Plan. The Apple Care Plan is only 2 years, and then you are on your own. If Apple had confidence in their iPod's, they would offer a longer warranty period.
The only thing I see Apple Care is good for is that if something catastrophic happen, they will pay for shipping and any parts that are needed to fix it.
Their stock is doing great. Where is the money going???

  • Why won't my BRAND NEW iPod Nano 7th Generation recognize headphones?

My BRAND NEW iPod Nano 7th Generation (purchased from and Apple Store less than a week ago) will not recognize any headphones.  Consequently, I can hear NO sounds.  It worked just fine right after I set it up. I turned it off, disconnected headphones that came with the Nano. Several hours later I turned it on again, plugged in the headphones, and then I could hear NOTHING. When I tried the radio, I got the message there was no signal because it said the headphones were not plugged in, which they were.  I have tried two other sets of headphones.  None work, but they all work in another iPod, so I know it is not the headphones. I restored the software and started over, but this didn't help either.  I have pushed the headphone jack in as far as possible. This is very frustating because this Nano was a birthday gift for my husband.   I will be grateful for any help.  Thanks a lot.

Thanks SO much for the GREAT advice!  I did just what you said, and I am back in business.  The sound is fine, and the radio works. I cleaned out the jack with a tooth pick, blew some air in, and pushed the jack in a bit harder.I guess I was too tentative about pushing the jack all the way in. You were right that it is a tight fit.  Thanks again, deggie.  My husband thanks you also! His birthday gift now works!  Yay!

I am unable to get my decently new Imac to recognize or charge my brand new ipod nano.  I have tried to restart my computer and the ipod, neither have worked. Running itunes 10.7.  Please help.

  • I have OS X 10.4.11 and I just got home with my new ipod nano and I need to update my OS! How do I do this?

I have OS X 10.4.11 and I just got home with my new ipod nano 6th generation and I have after searching threads etc discovered I need to update my OS! How do I do this - all of the posts on this subject are a bit out of date I think? I have a mac book pro 2.2 so I know I can run Leopard, I just have no idea how to get it...? Please help!

Check your Mac against hardware specs to find out what version of OS X you can upgrade to.
Then buy DVD for that version.

  • Just bought a brand new ipod nano and downloaded an audiobook borrowed from the local library.  The book is there and playing but, I cannot hear anything.  What am I doing wrong?

just bought a brand new ipod nano and downloaded an audiobook borrowed from the local library.  The book is there and playing but, I cannot hear anything.  What am I doing wrong?

Does the same file play normally in iTunes?  Do other audiobooks play normally on the iPod?
How does "borrowing" work?  Does it require use of another app, other than iTunes, to get it on the iPod?

  • Would a brand new ipod nano say it's been formatted

I just paid for a brand new ipod nano (recycle fee of $75 and traded in my old one) and when I plugged it into  the USB,  it reported back to me that the new nano had already been formatted for macintosh. Doesn't feel like a new ipod?

  • I have a brand new Ipod nano never been opened. Could I exchange and get money off for ipad at an apple store?

I have a brand new Ipod nano that has never been opened. It was a gift.  Could I exchange it and get money off for an ipad at an apple store?

No.  The most you can do is turn it in your a 10% discount towards the purchase of a new one.  You would be much better off selling the Nano on Craigslist or eBay and using the profits from that towards the purchase of an iPad.

  • Does the feature's guide booklet come with a new ipod Nano?

    Hello,
I'm trying to figure out if the feature's guide comes with a new ipod nano? My sister bought one awhile ago and all that is in the clear box is a Quick Start Guide. I know I can find the feature's guide online but trying to figure out if she ever had a hard copy of the feature's guide booklet as I can't find her copy. Maybe I'm looking for something that is in my imagination.

Thanks, my sister got an ipod touch the other day with a new Macbook and she told me to get her manual for something I was trying to figure out. So I thought I was using it the other day and can't find it. Now she thinks the touch one is at her office. Then I decided to get all the new stuff together in a bag: her Macbook info, her nano stuff and her ipod touch stuff (she tends to leave stuff all over the place and since I use them sometimes I thought I would organize it all). After collecting it all I wondered if there was something for the nano which I didn't see in the box.
Anywho now I know the answer for the ipod nano anyway.

  • Massive amount of issues on brand new iPod 20GB

After wasted the last 5 evennings trying to install a BRAND NEW iPod 20Go (following the iPod Getting Started), due to an amazing and a never ever experienced amount of issues, like :
    1. from the brand new and never used iPod CD that comes with the iPod : « error 1628 : unable to complete script based installation » ???;
    2. from iPodUpdater 09.23.2005 : not updating or restoring the iPod or : « your iPod model is not manage by this application » ???;
    3. from iTunes : not recognise the iPod, not transfer my songs or only 1 or some… but never the all of them, not eject the iPod, suddenly froze and crash WinXP… ???;
    4. and finally, since 09.28.2005 / 8 PM I just can’t run iTunes 5.0.1.4 anymore :
    - even after I’ve uninstalled it and deleted it and redownloaded it and reinstall it several times from different mirrors :
    - during the installation the assistant wizard don’t show the installation of Quicktime (suppose to install iTunes 5.0.1.4 and Quicktime 7);
    - as soon as the installation is complete, WinXP always display the same error msg :
    « iTunes has had a problem and must close … sorry for… » ;
    5. (…)
… and after having read all the Tips and Troubleshooting finding in iPod Getting Started and on Apple.com support page (iPod tutorials + discussions) I’ve SEVERAL times :
    6. uninstalled (Control Panel) iTunes/iPod/Quicktime
    7. RESTART the PC
    8. manually deleted all iTunes, iPod, Quicktime and Apple files from the program files and all the temporary files related (C:\Documents and Settings\…) to the precise date of iPod + iTunes installation
    9. cleaned the harddisk (Cleandisk / WinXP system tools)
    10. deleted the History, the Cookies and everything from the navigator (Thunderbird with last update 09.29.2005)
    11. uninstalled and delete all the unused programs and files to have the maximum amount of harddrive space
    12. defragmented the harddrive (WinXP system tools)
    13. updated and ran the antivirus
    14. updated and ran Ad-Aware and Spyboot Search & Destroy and so on …
    15. RESTART the PC
    16. downloaded and installed the last WinXP updates (Windows Update)
    17. RESTART the PC
    18. unpluged other device from the USB 2.0 PCI hub card
    19. RESTART the PC
    20. downloaded iTunes 5.0.1.4 (09.20.2005 file), iPodUpdater 1.2 for iPod 20GB color display (09.23.2005 iPodUpdater) from Apple.com
    21. checked both files with my last updated Computer Associate antivirus
    22. snoozed the Antivirus
Then installed the last iPodUpdater and RESTART PC :
    23. run iPodUpdater, plug the iPod (USB 2.0 port)
    - WinXP identified the iPod as 1 harddisk (open a window as for any other external harddrive)
    - then iPodUpdater enable the restaure option
    - click restaure : WinXP error msg « unable to lock iPod... try again » ; close iPodUpdater
    24. then try to disconnect safely the (G iPod with the green arrow button in the WinXP taskbar
    - WinXP error msg : « unable to stop Apple iPod USB device now, try to stop it later »
    25. then click My Computer : iPod = (G
    - right click on (G , select eject, no flashing sign « do not disconnect » on iPod

    - Plug iPod (flashing do not disconnect ), iTunes starts (OK),

    Hi Martha
Some others in iPod discussions solve theirs troubles :
    - by buying and installing 1 Firewire card (6-pin port) + the Apple 6-pin FireWire cable : $ 70 - $ 110 or more for both items (good idea if the problem comes from the USB 2.O port and cable, so with FireWire connection created by Apple you just avoid any USB 2.0 connection. But, if you can quickly tranfer some songs and play them on the iPod... it doesen't sound like 1 USB 2.0 connection to me),
    - by connecting iPod on 1 Apple Computer. Know this is not THE solution. But so you can check if the problem comes from
your iPod or/and your USB 2.0 connection and at the end you temporarily can iPod all your songs. If you don't know somebody with an Apple computer, I'm quit sure... if you can go to 1 Apple store and explain this, they will let you check your iPod and USB 2.0 cable, hope so at least.
Since the 9.28 8pm, I just can't install iTunes 5.0.1.4, as soon as the installation process is complete, WinXPsp2 always display the same error msg :
« iTunes has had a problem and must close … sorry for… " ... even brand new files downloaded again and again and .... at Apple.com (http://appldnld.m7z.net)
For me, even if iTunes 5.0.1.4 is already on the market, this iTunes update is definitively not Windows XPsp2 compatible yet.
So, still waiting a working iTunes (n) version truly XPsp2 compatible from Apple/Microsoft people, and quickly because
warranty time is running and I still want to be able to exercise my warranty rights before the end of it.
    Good luck
    Olivier

  • Brand New iPod Nano will not do anything

My mother's new Ipod nano 4th generation will not do anything. It has been plugged into the USB for close to twelve hours (not in sleep mode) and it is still completely unresponsive. Shouldn't it be charged by now? The hold switch is off. It is not recognized by the computer. I have hooked it up to different computers including a brand new Macbook and it still does the same thing. I've tried resetting and restarting it using the method on the Apple site but it is still completely unresponsive. All that is on the screen is the Apple logo--nothing else.

it's always a good idea when u first use a new ipod with a computer to restore it with the ipod updater to makes sure everything is all rosey with the format and then load up the songs so u can walk through the ipod set assistant. this should fix it right up. just restore it
