Issue with embedding fonts

Hi,
Using Livecycle Designer ES, I've built a form for a client. And they have insisted on using a specific, non native font (DIN, in all it's flavours). This is a TrueType font.
In the form properties, I have selected "Embed fonts". There are also other fonts like Wing Dings etc...
When the form is opened in Reader (9.3), and you look at the Document Properties, under the Fonts tab, all the fonts, except the DIN fonts have "(Embedded)" next to them. The DIN fonts All have 2 extra entries, namely "Actual Font: Adobe Sans MM" and "Actual Font Type: Type 1".
Does anyone have an idea as to why these specific fonts cannot be embedded?
Thanks,
Eric

Hi,
I suspect that the particular font cannot be embedded, due to the license that was originally purchased. Some fonts are sold (particularly bundles/families) as "print and preview". This means that they cannot be embedded in documents where the user will be using the font to edit the form. Here are some screen shots of an XFA form which used the "Frutiger LT 45 Com" font, which is "print and preview":
When you look in the Warnings tab, it might tell you that the DIN font does not permit embedding:
When you open the form in Acrobat/Reader on a computer that has the fonts installed, all may appear to be well:
But when you open the form in Acrobat/Reader on a computer that does NOT have the font installed, the DIN font may be substituted:
The DIN font may be a "print and preview only" font, which would mean that it would not be embedded in the form.
The best option is to check the website where the client purchased the font, to check if it is available as "editable and embedded".
If your client really wants to use the font, then an "editable and embedded" font would need to be purchased, if it is available.
Good luck,
Niall

  • Problem with embedding fonts in Illustrator CS5

    I have just installed Illustrator CS5, and have tested creating a PDF document based on one of my existing files, as well as a new file.
    When I open these PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, I am told that Acrobat cannot access one of the embedded fonts (Korinna BT).
    I have had no issues with embedding this font in Illustrator CS4, and (strangely), when I open these files in other PDF viewers (Preview and PDFPenPro), they report no issues.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    I have removed and reinstalled the font in question, and tested/verified that the font is OK - but still not joy.
    Regards
    Jeremy

    The error message I get is:
    "Cannot extract the embedded font 'MVZTIW+KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular'. Some characters may not display or print correctly."
    When I check the fonts in the PDF in "Document Properties" in Adobe Acrobat the following is shown:
    "KorinnaITCbyBT-Regular
         Type: TrueType
         Encoding: Ansi
         Actual Font: Adobe Serif MM
         Actual Font Type: Type 1"
    It seems that Illustrator is adding some strange "code" ('MVZTIW') to the beginning of the font, which means the actual font can't be found and extracted.

  • Correct dimensions for a text with embedded font

    Can someone please tell me how can I find the  width, height and lineHeight for a text  that is inside a RichEditableText component if I'm useing  embedded fonts as cff?
    I have a font that has  big loops on letters like f,j,g.  I
    tried to get the infos from the richEditableText and richEditableText.textFlow. I even tried to compute the height of the text line by line with textFlow.flowComposer.getLineAt(i).height. But none of this got me a value big enought to cover the loops too.

    Might be an issue with the font.  Try checking each of the children in the RichEditableText.  Some of them should be TextLines.  See what they report.

  • Textfield which accepts multilingual characters with embedded fonts

    Hi all,
    I have a textfield where I can paste text from different languages with device fonts. Now, I want to input multi-ligual text with embedded fonts.
    I have embedded set of fonts, where I can input only english alphabets but not other languages.
    Is there a way to input any language characters with embedded fonts?
    Thank you.

    Thanks for your reply.
    I have embedded font as follows,
    [Embed(source="myfont.ttf", fontName='myfont', mimeType='application/x-font',embedAsCFF="false")]
    With this, I was able to apply this font for english.
    I have tried to paste " मैं कौन हूँ? " on a textfield. But I have not shown मैं कौन हूँ? text.
    And setting text programmatically did not work at all as
    textField.text = "मैं कौन हूँ?";
    If I do this with device fonts, every thing work fine but not with embedded fonts.
    Is there any thing wrong with my code while embedding font?

  • Problems with Embedded Font MS PGothic

    Hello,
    After editing a document in Japanese, some characters will not show up. Normally i would attribute this to a missing font pack, but after reinstalling the Japanese font pack on the computer, we strill get the error message:
    "Cannot extract the embedded font 'RNUQGV+MSPGothic-WinCharSetFFFF-H'"
      Some characters may not display or print correctly.
    We create the file with MS Word, and in word we have no problems. It is only after using PDF-Server to create the files does this become a problem. Other Japanese fonts do no seem to have this issue.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Reader V8 problem with embedded font

    Hello,
    I'm having problems opening in Reader V8 the PDF file located at http://www.itech.ca/otf-cff.pdf . The file opens correctly in previous versions of acrobat. AR 4 5 6 7. It complains about the embedded font. Can anyone help me identify the reason why the font cannot be extracted ? Is there anything wrong in the PDF file when describing the font, or it's the way I'm generating the embedded font ? Is there any tool I can use to help me debug this ? Any help or hint would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Rabih,
    Please repost in the Reader forum. This forum is for pdf specification
    issues. Usually, the problems you are having are due to each successive
    version of Acrobat adhering to standards more strictly. A pdf with a
    problemsome font Acrobat or Reader might have tried to render the pdf
    and hope for the best. Now it may reject the pdf.

  • Issue with .ttf font family in CR10.2

    Hello Community,
    I'm writing this because one of our client run into an issue using .ttf (Opentype TT) fonts in Crystal Report 10.2, running on Windows Server 2008 R2.
    As I learned CR10.2 is discontinued and unsupported now. The live chat advised me to ask the community and so I'm doing here.
    The fonts work alright in all app on all platform. In this case, however the client cannot access the Bold nor any Italic versions from the software. Seems to me that CR10.2 can not use style-linked fonts and so making a family of fonts with no style-linking could be a solution.
    There is also an issue with the ligatures: the f+i ligature renders as a single f. This could be solved by turning off the ligature but my client is unsure whether that can be done.
    I'm looking for any information on these. Any help is highly appreciated!
    Best
    Béla

    Hi Bela,
    Back to the original issue... You are correct. When using the Style option in the CR Designer it works fine when previewing on the DEV PC because the Font Glyphs are mapped accordingly. When run in an application on someone elses PC though those mappings are not there...
    So if you want to use BOLD then you MUST select the "font name" with  "BOLD"  in the name.
    For example:
    BentonSans Bold is what you need to use.
    You should not use the Styles to select it when used in a .NET application:
    Leave it as Regular....
    The reason is in CR Designer ( both standalone and Embedded in Visual Studio ) use legacy runtime and the GDI.dll and usp10.dll to do the page rendering. In a VS .NET application it uses GDIPlus.dll to do the rendering and it has limitations when it comes to how font Glyphs are handled and the font Mapping feature of windows.
    Also, how are they able to select the font? Are you using the craxddrt.dll ( embeddable Design Control ) in your application? This is not allowed, you are not licensed to be using it or distributing it in any application, only allowed to design reports in the VS IDE only.
    Or did you build your own Report Designer using the RCAPI's?

  • Why a pdf document with embedded fonts can be copied but is not searchable in pdf reader

    I am writing a pdf files with embedded subset fonts. As required, I am including the ToUnicode and CIDSet objects. To test, I created a simple PDF with two Hebrew characters. I can select the two characters and copy to the clipboard, and paste it properly into another application such as Word. But I am not able to search for a word containing these two characters. Adobe Reader (or Acrobat) displays the message that the word was not found. So in essence, I have created a PDF document which can be copied properly, but is not searchable. Any idea what I might be missing when creating the document?
    Additional information: 1. The file in question is a minimal file with just two characters. I have tested with many such files in many different languages including English. None of the files are searchable. 2. Curiously, if I search for the letter 'e', Adobe reader highlights an incorrect word, even if the letter 'e' does not exists in the file. 3. Adobe acrobat is also not able to search within this file, however when I save the file to another disk file, the saved file now is searchable. I confirmed that the major objects such as the font-file, ToUnicode object, CID object, and the font description objects are the same in the saved file. However, one of the font object is brought up closer to the top of the file. 4. FoxIt is able to search these files properly.

    I figured the app might have that ability - considering you can add text, highlight, add a signature, annotate and draw - so my thought was why not delete a page, or rearrange for that matter?.. That should be an option, this way we don't have to export to one of the other apps to delete or rearrange..
    Thanks for the help, Bernd.
    BTW if anyone is looking - PDF Max can do all of the above and delete and rearrange. With PDF Splicer you can delete and rearrange as well, but it has no other features.
    And as for Steve Werner whose comment was deleted after it got to my inbox, it is much more than a Reader, as you can plainly see from the amount of tasks the Reader app can do above.

  • How can I create a PDF with embedded fonts (not a subset of the font) from Excel?

    I need to create PDF's from Excel spreadsheets. The PDF needs to have embedded fonts but every time I create one it only has a subset of the embedded font.  I have tried setting preferences in the Acrobat add in (unchecked the "Subset Embedded Fonts" option and also tried with the Subset Embedded Fonts checked but the percentage set to only 1% in an attempt to force full font to be embedded.)
    I also tried opening the resulting PDF with Acrobat Pro XI but could not figure out how to add the font in.
    A method to accomplish the results from either tool would be great.

    Anna;
    Unless you can add those fonts to your system via the Font book and then substitute them in iPhoto, you'll have to either user the available fonts or create your own pages, 8.5 x 11, in an image editor like Photoshop Elements and use them on pages that are one photo per page. Other's have done that with some success.
    If you has PS or PSE create an 8.5 x 11" canvas at 300 dpi. Then you can add your photos, add text (if PS can use the text), and create your own layout.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Issue with embedding and usage of worklist TF in ADF app

    In our application, we have embedded the worklist TF from "adflibTasklistTaskflow.jar" in our jspx page. Below is the page def binding for the TF

    </parameters>
    </taskFlow>
    Issue
    When we try to re-assign the claimed task in the worklist, it opens up a re-assign popup - "Identity browser".
    Within Reassign Screen:
    - Select "All" value on the dropdown
    - Enter a last name on the text field. I.e. "Kristoffersson"
    Or enter an email address.
    - SOA error will appear as mentioned below
    "Search failed with an error. Service error.. Refer to the log file that is configured for oracle.soa.services.identity for more details on this error and contact Oracle Support Services"
    This issue is not seen for any other option in the drop down other than "All" (e.g. "users", "group", etc. it is displaying all corresponding search results of users from LDAP)
    Below are the library which we have added in our UI project:
    I. BPM worklist components
    1) adflibTasklistTaskflow.jar
    2) adflibWorklistComponents.jar
    II. BPM Workflow
    1) bpm-services.jar
    2) bpm-infra.jar
    III. BPM taskflow
    1) bpm-workflow-datacontrol.jar
    IV. BPM services
    1) bpm-services.jar
    Is there anything missing from the uptake? Please suggest.
    Also, is there any uptake document for the same (embedding human worklist into a page)?

    Hi,
    I remember a similar issue with inner frames that should be fixed in JDeveloper 10.1.3.3. The problem was that the ADF Faces JavaScript did not get the correct document root.

  • Help with embedding fonts in swf file

    Hi, I am haviing a problem with my fonts displaying in my swf file. I created the flash site using CS4 on a mac. I thought the fonts were embedded but when I tested the swf in safari and firefox the fonts disappeared are all scrunched up in 1/2" on top of each other in several lines. Its a mess. It is displaying in times or some other font when viewed in on a pc browser.
    What I did so far that did not work:
    Made fonts static with animation
    made fonts dynamic with animation
    How can I fix this?
    I am still a beginner using flash so the simpler the option the better.
    Thanks!!!

    there are quite a few ways you could mess this up but no one way that's typical.
    create a new fla.  click on the text tool, select static in the combobox and add a textfield to the stage.  animate it.  test it.  any problems?
    any other way (or ordering of steps) you use to create static text is prone to problems.

  • Placed PDF (with embedded fonts) reports fonts not available!

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me why Illustrator CS (I know it's old) should report Fonts missing when the PDF I have placed has definately got the fonts embedded.
    The PDF was made in InDesign CS4 using the default [High Quality Print] setting. If I look at the properties of the created PDF it lists all the fonts as being embedded subsets.
    I know I can get around this by outlining the text but I shouldn't have to.
    Thanks
    Simon Kemp

    So, Illustrator will always require the fonts present and will disregard any embedded fonts?
    That's pretty much it. Remember: Illustrator is not a PDF viewing program. It wants to let you edit the document. PDF is essentially a document exchange format and not really intended for editable content (beyond the extent Acrobat enables). Font designers want you to buy their products if you're going to be doing anything other than reading the text.
    The link-place-flatten trick is good to have in your bag of tricks, but I am not alone in recommending you do not blindly outline all type. Aside from making it nearly impossible for an output service provider to make a possibly necessary last-minute correction, you will not get the proper hinting with very small type. Moreover, if you're dealing with a large amount of text, you'll end up with huge files.

  • Problems with embedded font on spark RichText control

    « Hide
    I have an embedded font that appears correctly when used with Halo components, but when associated with the spark RichText component, it is not recognized.
    The embedded font is defined in css file, my css file
    @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
    @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo";
    @font-face {
    src:url("assets/fonts.swf");

    fontFamily: "Helvetica Neue";
    fontSize:12px;
    The embedded font it used in the following manner:
    <mx:Label styleName="panelTitle" text="Hello There"  width="263" x="21" y="11"/>
    <s:Group width="410" x="38" y="52" height="50">
    <s:RichText styleName="panelTitle" text="Hello There" fontFamily="Helvetica Neue"  width="263" x="21" y="11"/>
    </s:Group>
    The Label shows the embedded font correctly while the RichText control does not. It does not matter if the fontFamily is specified explicitly on the control or not.
    I created a bug SDK-22137, but since I'd need to get this working soon any help would be appreciated.

    Just a friendly reminder. Many of the examples on that site are fairly old and havent been updated to use the latest APIs. For example, "cff" has recently been renamed to "embedAsCFF". In fact, here's a better example:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

            @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
            /* DefineFont3 (embedAsCFF == false) */
            @font-face {

            /* DefineFont4 (embedAsCFF == true) */
            @font-face {

                fontFamily: embGeorgiaCFF;
                fontWeight: normal;

            @font-face {

                fontFamily: embGeorgiaCFF;
                fontWeight: bold;
                embedAsCFF: true;
            mx|Label {
                fontFamily: embGeorgia;
            s|RichText {
                fontFamily: embGeorgiaCFF;
                fontLookup: embeddedCFF;
        </fx:Style>
        <mx:Label text="Halo Label" />
        <mx:Label text="Halo Label (bold)" fontWeight="bold" />
        <s:RichText text="Spark RichText" />
        <s:RichText text="Spark RichText (bold)" fontWeight="bold" />
    </s:Application>
    Also, depending on what you're trying to do, this may help you: http://blog.flexexamples.com/2009/06/14/using-a-cff-embedded-font-with-a-halo-label-contro l-in-flex-4/. Basically, you can set the textFieldClass style on certain Halo controls and have them use the mx.core.UITLFTextFieldClass (instead of the default mx.core.UITextFieldClass) so they can take advantage of the new CFF fonts.
    In fact, here's the same example as above, but with the single embedded font:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
                   xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
                   xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo">
        <s:layout>
            <s:VerticalLayout paddingLeft="20" paddingTop="20" />
        </s:layout>
        <fx:Style>
            @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo";
            @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
            /* DefineFont4 (embedAsCFF == true) */
            @font-face {

  • Issue with the font and alignment in SAP Script PDF

    Hi Experts,
    I have a problem with the font in SAP Script PDF conversion.
    The output of the form is working fine but in the PDF the output is wrong.
    There is a dutch letter ' ï ' which is pinted in the form output correctly but in the PDF output the character
    has been changed to '#'.
    and also the alignment of some text has beed changed without line spacing in between.
    Please let me know what could be the problem and how to solve this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Sankara Chakradhar.

    Hi Prabhudas,
    I am using the FM 'CONVERT_OTF' to convert the data to pdf.
    The FM CLOSE_FORM is creating the IT_OTF internal table and the CONVERT_PDF uses that internal table to populate the         IT_PDF internal table and then using the FM 'SO_OBJECT_SEND' to send the PDF file to mail.
      CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERT_OTF'
           EXPORTING
                format       = 'PDF'
           IMPORTING
                bin_filesize = g_filesize
           TABLES
                otf          = it_otf
                lines        = it_pdf.
    Regards,
    Sankara Chakradhar.
