Issue with home sharing

When iOS 4.3 came out I immediately upgraded my iTunes and phone 4 software so I could use the home sharing. I was so tired of syncing my phone everytime I'd watch a movie off of it. At first it worked like a charm, so easy to set up and it was ready to go.
Now, when I try to watch any movie in my iTunes (all which I've bought from iTunes) I get an "This movie could not be played" message.(http://s890.photobucket.com/albums/ac110/Curly420/) I'm just confused now. Idk what to do, I've logged out of everything, and signed back in, turned off and back on home sharing on iTunes and rebooted everything. My music works, just not videos. any ideas?

I did the same thing. Updated iTunes and updated my iPhone 4. Now, I cannot use home sharing between any of my devices, iMac, MacBook, and iPhone. I still haven't found a good solution, even though I have tried all the troubleshooting tips.

  • Help with issues with Home Sharing/IOS5/iTunes 10.5

Hello.  Was wondering if anyone else was having this problem.  Updated my iPad 1, Apple TV 2g, iTunes 10.5, and IOS5.  Turned on my Apple TV and Home Sharing is not working.  Rebooted EVERYTHING.  Still nada.  Entered 3 ports that Apple recommended on my router.  Nothing.  Went to my Firewall and selected "ALLOW ALL INCOMING CONNECTIONS".  BINGO!!  Only Thing that worked.  I really do not want to keep my firewall down.  Anyone have any suggestions?  I know Cloud will not work until I upgrade to Lion.  So could that be the problem with my Home Sharing on Apple TV and iPad?
Also, funny thing......Even though I couldn't load my computer library on Apple TV2 until I dropped my firewall.  It still saw the name of my library and was still able to run the screen saver of pictures from the iPhoto library.  Strange.  Or am I just missing something too easy????  Help please..........
    Running:
    Mac OS X 10.5.8 Desktop
    iPad 1g
    Apple TV 2g
    Linksys Wireless-G 2.4 GHz Model#: WRT54GS
    iTunes 10.5
    iOS5
    Thanks,
    Stick

I am also having the same problem.  I have a 13 inch, MacBook Pro 2010 model with iPhone 3GS and Apple TV 2.  I have had no problems with any of these devices until I upgraded all to iOS 5.  The Apple TV drops my homesharing library constantly - mid movie, mid song, between movies or albums.  It has yet to make it more than 1hr since iOS 5 without dropping.  However, Netflix, YouTube and of course the store seems to work fine. All other applications on my MacBook Pro and iPhone are  having no issues and my I have checked my router ,my connections, my passwords and user names and also done all of the above.  Definitely an Apple issue.
Also AirPlay with my iPhone to Apple TV is randomly dropping and not showing, nor our my shared libraries from device to device.
As for wi-fi syncing, it works intermittently and when it doesn't, it appears there is nothing I can do or have found online that seems to help.  So I wait for it randomly to work again.
Hopefully there will be an update to iOS 5 soon for all devices (and iTunes) as right now, my Apple TV is just an expensive piece of black plastic.
Has anyone had luck with fixing this yet?

  • I am having issues with home sharing after installing iTunes 11.

I am using window vista ultimate 64.  I've done everything I could think of including uninstalling all apple software and everything apple related. Installed iTunes 10 and it still will not work. I've checked firewall settings. Rebooted everything.  I'm at odds. What next.
Before the install. All my apple products would connect without any issues.
    Anyone have any ideas.

Home sharing icon no longer shows up in iTunes. You can check my solution here

  • Computer does not recognize Ipod. Also, issues with Home Sharing.

About 8 months ago I lost my Ipod classic which had thousands of songs on it. (Some were from my friends computer, but over 1000 were from mine.) I went out and bought a new one but when I tried to connect it to my laptop (an old Dell Inspiron 1150) the computer didn't recognize the Ipod. I'd been having computer problems for a while so when that happened I knew I needed a new computer.
When I got the new computer, my Ipod connected just fine with it but I knew that I needed to get the 1000+ songs from my old computer to my new computer. When Home Sharing came out I knew it was what I needed. So I connected the two computers through that method. My old computer took the library of the new computer (maybe 20 or-so songs that I had bought) but the library of my old computer wouldn't transfer to the new computer. I thought maybe it was something wrong with the new computer. However, I recently bought a Mac. I am having the same problems right now and am very anxious to get this problem fixed so that I can de-authorize that computer.
Has anyone else had a similar problem and solved it?

sounds like the only problem left is home sharing
maybe i can help with that.
what you want to see in iTunes is this (view from my MBP's iTunes seeing the library on my Mini)
if you then click on the house icon, it will change to this and you should be able to import any content from any shared library.
if the icon looks like this , home sharing has not been set up correctly.
in order for home sharing to work
    (a) iTunes on all machines must be authorized for the same iTunes store account
    (b) all machines must be on the same network
    (c) all machines must have access to the internet.
if none of the above makes a difference, try turning home sharing off on all computers, then turning it back on.
these reads will be useful: one and two.

  • Problems with home sharing on my iPhone

So my home sharing keeps crashing after it gets to 50% on my iPhone. I choose the computer I want and it just sits there and loads until it hits 50% then it stops and refuses to load anymore. I first thought it was the computer I was connected to. At the time it started I was connected to my dads iMac and thought it was something to do with the apple IDs we were using on that computer. He has a different apple ID then me and I thought it was something to do with the multiple IDs. So I logged out from His sharing and logged in onto mine using my computer. After changing the IDs and restarting both my iPhone and my computer I tried it again. Same exact thing. It loads 50% and stops no matter how long I leave it for. I tried turning off my firewall and logging out of home sharing and logging back in on my iPhone. No joy. So I'm stumped. I have no idea why my phone will not connect with home sharing. Also my dads phone will connect to home sharing. Its just my phone this happens with. And this started to happen about 1 month ago when the new iPhone 5 came out. I'm also sure that it started happening after I installed IOS 6 on my phone.

Personally I think recognition of libraries has always been a bit flaky with both versions of AppleTV.
Sometimes this is down to local network issues, but sometimes, for whatever reason I think communication to say iTunes is available or not between the 2 devices is not always robust, and a restart of itunes, AppleTV, router or all can be required to kick start things.
Some people have lots of issues. I don't see that many but occasionally a library isn't available when I know itunes is running or seen and then can't be accessed.

  • Trouble with Home Sharing/Airplay from Mac

I am having an issue trying to access my computer through 2nd gen Apple TV. The software on the device is up to date. I am running OS X Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro with up to date iTunes. I am trying to watch a video in my iTunes library but it will not let me access my computer with home sharing. I have made sure that both devices have home sharing turned on and using the correct account. I am also unable to access my iTunes library with my iPad or iPhone. I have done this successfully in the past so I'm not sure what is causing this. Oh, it also wont let me airplay from iTunes on my Mac to the apple tv.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Same here. iPhone, Mac Mini and Apple TV3 are all up to date. Logged in and out on each device and home sharing and airplay still don't work at all. Nothing shows up in the remote app. They're all on the same network and have been. The only thing I can think of is the most recent ATV firmware update, but why would my phone be unable to see my computer??
    Any secret commands to try?

  • With home sharing, can I sync music and apps on multiple computers at home?

    Hi.
With home sharing, can I sync music and apps on multiple computers at home?
Basically, I want to sync my iphone and ipad on 2~3 computers at home without deleting contents in my iphone and ipad.
    thanks.

I did some more checking as I still had my old computer online.
I booted and went into iTunes.
Under DEVICES, the TV was listed, along with MUSIC, PHOTOS, PLAYLISTS, much like an iPod/Touch.
When I went into PREFERENCES->TV DEVICES, the TV was listed and on the site, it stated SYNCING.
On the other computer, it listed STREAMING.  I did do a RIGHT CLICK on the device and selected "STOP STREAMING" and it disappeard - must RE-PAIR with the unit I guess.
I'm afraid to perform the following, but if someone out there has the equipment, maybe they can check...
Make sure nothing else is managing the TV.
Pair with the unit so you have all sorts of options under the device and it shows 'syncing'.
Now, create a new account and perform the same thing or use another Mac.  I believe it will limit you to STREAMING only.
My thoughts are that ONLY ONE computer can sync (just like other device).  I have to disconnect the association with the old computer.
Even though I moved everything over with Migration Assistant, I didn't have any issues with managing the iPhones, but I'm wondering if there is a Computer UUID that the AppleTV is TIED to.  Since I'm on a different computer UUID, and it's being managed by another one, I'm limited to STREAMING.
Only other choice is to RESET the unit - now, where did my manual go?
    Thoughts?

I have two computers with home sharing on, but I can't transfer music. What do I do?

What do you mean by "won't pick up the songs"?
You can only sync with one iTunes library. However, you can manage mauic and videos among different computer by:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
You can transfer iTunes purchases to a computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer

  • Can you share purchased books with Home Sharing?

Can you share purchased books (from IBooks) with Home Sharing? Music seems to share fine-books seem to be a problem.

In iTunes go to Preferences > Sharing and either share your entire library or make sure the Books playlist is checked.
You may then need to click the Import button to copy the book into your Library, I was not able to actually read the book without taking that step.

  • When i copy songs with home sharing it shows it copying but doesn't show up in the library

When I copy songs with home sharing it shows it copying but doesn't show up in the library. What should I do ?

    Hi adtsalmon,
You can only watch the movie on the device you rented it on. Here's a snippet from the Apple Support site (italics mine):
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.
Here's the link to the Movie Rentals FAQs site FYI:

    Hope this helps!

  • Can a family of four share one i tunes account with home sharing?

Can a family of four share one i tunes account with home sharing?

Sure but it depends more on how many and what kinds of devices are being connected to each other for Home Sharing. Up to five computers can be authorized to use iTunes Home Sharing. I don't believe there is a limit on the number of iOS devices, Apple TVs, iPhones, iPads and iPod Touchs, that can connect using Home Sharing.
