Issue with MacBook Air and nouveau

Hi.
I've installed Arch Linux on MacBook Air with Nvidia 320M videocard. Proprietary nvidia driver does not work at all and nouveau has video artefacts (photo attached because screenshot pictures haven't any problems): horizontal noisy black lines and wrong colors on the left two thirds of screen.

nvidiafb works fine, but it has no dri and has problems with suspend.
How to resolve this problem with nouveau? Is it crtc-related or not? Playing with xrandr does not have any effect (except resolution change).

I had an issue with my MBA seeing my HP printer and could find no good reason for the issue.  In the end I deleted the printers WiFi connection and then turned around and set it up on my WiFi network all over again.  My MBA now finds the printer every time.  Okay ...so I don't actually know why it didn't work the first time, but it does now.  Again, there was no apparent issue with either the HP printer or the MBA being connected to WiFi in the first place, but something different must have occurred in software/hardware the second time.

  • Keyboard/Trackpad issues with MacBook Air (Late 2010)

My wife used one of those clorox wipes on her MacBook Air and now she is having issues with the keyboard and trackpad. The option, command and shift keys do not work correctly and the trackpad thinks every click is a two finger "command click" (even though I turned off right clicking in the system preferences).
Normally I would try a PRAM or SMC reset to fix it, but the buttons needed to start one (cmd + opt) aren't working.
I plugged in an external USB keyboard and all the buttons work correctly.
Any advice on how to get these issues resolved? Is it a hardware issue that needs to be addressed by a Genius? Is it possible a clean install of OS X could fix the issue?
The computer hasn't had any issues before this and there doesn't appear to be any battery swelling issues

I made a Genius bar appointment for tomorrow. When I got home last night I took a look at it again (I have a hard time leaving broken things alone...) and for whatever reason, the keyboard started working perfectly again. I managed to boot into safe mode via terminal but the issue persisted. When I booted back into standard mode, the keyboard was working great. This morning when I woke up, it was not working agian, but after rebooting it, it has been working correctly for the last hour.
At one point, I booted into Recovery and looked at the system.log. One error that caught my eye was:
Keyboard Layouts: duplicate keyboard layout identifier -16900.
Mar  7 05:54:10 localhost Unknown[355]: Keyboard Layouts: keyboard layout identifier -16900 has been replaced with -28674.
Any idea what this is, or if it could be causing eratic behavior?
The other odd thing is I cannot boot into any disgnostic modes using shortcut keys before booting. I'd like to reset PRAM, run AHT but none of those commands are working.
I still have my appointment tomorrow, but I'm thinking it is not a hardware issue (with the keyboard at least) since it does work correctly some of the time.

  • Issues with MacBook Pro and ACD 30"

Does anyone else have a 30" ACD hooked up to their MacBook Pro yet? My 30" is having some issues with my new MacBook 2.0ghz and I would like to see if I am the only one.
#1) I am getting horizontal white lines flickering every minute or so. This does not happen on my 17" PB G4 1.67. This is more distracting than the "dancing pixel" problem.
#2) The bottom of the reflection of the album art in FrontRow is distorted when I use the 30" as the main monitor. I posted a photo here: http://members.cox.net/5337/fr.jpg - the "distortion" changes everytime I change song and it different everytime. It occurs on all the album work.
    PB G4 1.67 - 17   Mac OS X (10.4)

I think you were responding to Bob Smith, but regardless, I found the same information.
One thing I've noticed, and mind you, I don't have my MBP yet, so I'm working from photo's, but I am bothered by the DVI connector being so "exposed". I would have somehow put a sliding cover on it, or at least one of the plastic end caps. I know, I will most likely never use my MBP on an external display, HOWEVER, I don't like the idea that all sorts of gunk and stuff can easily get jamed into that big ole connector!
I think an air can or a fine photo brush should be part of your "kit". Just my opinion...

  • Anyone else see issues with Adobe Air and Zinio

    Hi,
I'm just wondering if others are seeing this issue or if I did something unique to my machine. My console is flooded with error messages like this:
    8/3/11 4:41:23.244 AM sandboxd: ([307]) WebProcess(307) deny file-read-data /Users/bkray1/Library/Application Support/Adobe/AIR/ELS/ZinioReader4.9310D8F796442B71068C511E15D70529A702D19D.1/P rivateEncryptedDatak
Line after line of it, even after a restart without using the Zinio program (e-pub reader). I have repaired my keychain, and updated to adobe air beta 3, but still get the same meassages. If anyone has any ideas, please share.
    Thanks
    Bryan

This issue was vexing me too, and no amount of repairing the keychain (or deleting these entries) would make it go away.  Everytime I'd launch any Adobe AIR app, the problem would immediately return.
And I believe it was caused a huge speed slowdown, extra heat and overactive fan action on my mid-2010 MacBook Pro (2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM, otherwise clean install of OS X 10.7.)
Anyway, I came across this post with a purported hack to fix it:
    https://plus.google.com/104149041030409334838/posts/j1ptVE6qfsg
I'm not keen to try this just yet... but would be curious to hear details if anyone else gives it a go.  In the meantime I have just uninstalled Adobe AIR and will anxiously await the release of OS X 10.7.2.

  • Help using a mini display port to HDMI cable with MacBook Air and TV

Hi, Apple gurus. I need help setting up my MacBook Air to my Vizio TV using a mini display port to HDMI cable that I just purchased on Amazon.
And here's info about my MacBook Air:
In the Amazon reviews, someone posted the following how-tos, which aren't working for me:
    1. Plug in both ends, mini display port on your macbook and the HDMI on any available port on your LCD.
    2. Go to upper left Apple menu and scroll down to system preference. Or use your FINDER from the dock, go to applications, then system preference.
    3. Click on Displays
    4. Click on DETECT DISPLAY
    5. A similar screen pops up with name of your LCD, mine says SONY LCD, click on ARRANGEMENT
    6. Click the box that says MIRROR DISPLAYS.
    7. Go back into system preferences and go to SOUNDS which is located under HARDWARE.
    8. Click on OUTPUT, then select HDMI, which should be listed next to your LCD name.
I ran into trouble at step #4. My MacBook Air doesn't list the option of "detecting display." I do, however, have the box mentioned in step #6, "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available."
Regarding step #8, HDMI didn't appear in the list — I only see "internal speakers."
So, what am I doing wrong? Or, did I buy the wrong cable?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Or you need to get an appropriate adaptor. The Griffin adaptor sold on Apple's Online Store will work with a standard HDMI cable.

  • Issues with MacBook Pro and Asus VW266H

I own a 2.4 GHz 15 inch MacBook Pro,and an Asus VW266H (external monitor) that I wanted to connect to my Mac via VGA,since the DVI is connected to my desktop computer. So I went ahead and purchased Apple's MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter, and connected my Mac to my display. At first, the Mac didn't recognize the display with its name and would only go up to a resolution of 1920x1080(while the maximum resolution of the display is 1920x1200). I restarted the Mac with the display plugged in,and once the laptop booted up,the resolution was 1920x1200 and the display was recognized, but immediately quite a lot of trembling was noticeable. When the display wasn't detected properly(as an Asus VW266H) this problem wasn't present. I'm guessing that this is a compatibility issue, which by the way wasn't fixed by the latest EFI update by Apple, which improved external display compatibility. Does anyone have any idea if the problem might be something else other than lack of compatibility and/or how to fix it?
I know that neither the adapter nor the VGA cable have a problem since I connected the computer to my 1080p TV and it worked just fine...

    Concerning this comment:
I know that neither the adapter nor the VGA cable have a problem since I connected the computer to my 1080p TV and it worked just fine...
I would like to point out that 1080p has a lower pixel clock than will 1920 x 1200. So it could be the stability problem is only present when the pixel clock is at the high end of the range.
You could return the adapter and try another. A new one might have better margins. Another thing you could try is to use a utility like SwitchResX to lower the pixel clock and see if stability improves.

  • Issues with Macbook Pro and Lion

    Hi Folks,
Since I upgraded to Lion I have been having issues with Lion/Macbook Pro.
On occassions whilst using my magic mouse the mouse will start highlighting everything, neither left or right clicking will alleviate this. The only option I have is to go to the Apple menu and right click to reveal it (left click does nothing). I then have to right click on restart which produces the restart window, I then have to press "enter" to reboot the Macbook.
This issue originally started with 10.7.2 and I was hoping 10.7.3 would cure this issue, unfortunately this is not the case.
I have tried using a Logitech wireless mouse to see if it is an issue with the Magic Mouse but the same happens.
One issue which I have noted on the forums is that Lion does not like external monitors and I use a Dell 2209WA with the Macbook Pro in clamshell mode but not sure if this may have any link.
I have tried everything I can find on the forums but to no avail and would be very grateful if anyone out there had similar issues or better had found a solution.
    Many thanks,
    Iain

Your understanding of the problem seems correct to me. There's no way to fix it except to replace the logic board.

  • Wireless Router issues with MacBook Pro and Windows XP laptops

    hello,
I have a d-link wireless router and I have a MacBook Pro and a Windows XP laptops. My issue is that I have to keep rebooting either the router or the modem (which I both replaced) and it still does not work right. Now can mac and windows work simultaneously through a wireless router (d-link) with no issues?

My problem is that every time I log off either computer, and when I start it back up up again I have to reconfigure all over again for both laptops to get connected to the internet. I called the d-link people and they pretty much said if i still had problem to go their web sites and download their firmware (which I have that version) so I am running out of options because I just can't turn either of them on with out reconfiguring it. Now I am using WPA on them. Could that be the issue? But right now I do not know. This is my first mac and I am getting a little irritated by this. Overall I like the mac except for this little issue. Does that help?

  • Major issues with macbook air

so i have a mid 2012 macbook air. out of no where, it stopped turning on. i left it for about a week, tried it one day, and suddenly, it worked again. it now with a myriad of problems.
it was slow, it wouldn't hold a charge, and then one day, the battery just up and disappeared.
i read on one of these forums that there was a problem with mavericks and batteries not being recognized, so, since i know everything, i decided to reinstall mountain lion.
so i re-installed mountain lion, and more problems appeared. my battery didn't return, and now i couldn't open imovie, app store, and a couple other apps. i used my macbook pro to create a mavericks installer usb drive, re-installed that, and things started looking up. my apps all worked, and it wasn't nearly as slow, but my battery had not returned.
research showed that there was a patch that i should install. smc v1.9.
i couldn't install it because i had to update to mavericks 10.9.2.
       i tried to do that...
now my computer is screwed. it keeps rebooting, over and over. if i convince it to actually try and install 10.9.2, it says that it is going to take 111 hours and the time keeps increasing instead of counting down. when it reboots, it starts up to os x utilities, preceded by a screen that speaks to me saying "to select english as the main language, hit return"
i don't know what to do.
oh, and on top of that i am waiting on a replacement screen because i cracked mine in an unfortunate incident involving me and my cat, so i have to use the hdmi adaptor to see what's going on.
my knowledge and skill level i would say are moderate, but i can follow directions really well.
thank you, in advance. even some links to pertinent threads would be helpful, because i just don't know where to go from here.

Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Syncing issues between Macbook Air and Ipad

Hi. I have an iPad 3 and the new Macbook Air. I am using the latest versions on both my devices.  When i connect my ipad via the cable it connects and disconnects immediately, and this keeps on happening again and again and again. I have tried both the USB ports and have the same error. My iPhone chares and connects perfectly on my air on the same ports as do all other devices.
The iPad charges fine and also sycs via any other computer so for the life of me i cannot figure it out. Please help!
    Thanks.
    Andy

You will need to enable automatic downloads on the iPad and iPhone in order for the songs to be automatically be available
    Settings App
    iTunes & App Stores
This only works for purchases made once this is enabled.
For previous purchases launch the iTunes app on the iPad or iPhone and select more and then purchased to download.

  • Having issues with MacBook Pro and Verizon Mobile Hotspot

    Hey everyone,
I bought a MacBook Pro with the Lion OS. I recently switched to Verizon and got an HTC Thunderbolt so I could use it as a hotspot at home and when I travel.
The problem I am having is when I turn the Mobile Hotspot on is, it will connect and stay connected for anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes and then it will work intermittently after that until I turn it off. I've talked to Verizon Tech Support probably 30 times in the last 3 months about the issue. They sent me another SIM card and a new Thunderbolt at first. The issue did not go away, so they offered me a Samsung Charge. Got it and it did the same thing. So I told them to send me back a Thunderbolt, because its a better phone and the Charge was too glitchy.
I've been to the Apple Store twice now and they dont know why its happening either. The only thing that has remained constant throughout this whole troubleshooting process has been my MacBook Pro. My questions are: Is anyone else experiencing this type of behavior? and What could possibly be causing this issue?
Im a new Mac user, so Im not sure how to troubleshoot issues like this, or if there are compatibility issues Im not aware of.
    Thanks for your help,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Did this ever get resolved for you? I have the exact same problem except I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook and my phone is a Droid Incredible 2. When I use the hopstpot from a ThinkPad running Windows 7 or a System76 netbook running Linux Mint it works perfectly. But when I try to use my MacBook it connects for, like you said, anywhere between 3-10 minutes and then connection is intermittent and super slow. I haven't gone through the motions of contacting Verizon yet...
    Thanks,
    Aileen

  • Issues with Macbook pro and siemens gigaset se587

    Hello!
    Wondering if anyone can help me with this issue;
Bought my macbook pro about a year ago as a refurb off the apple site, everything works fine with it up until about a month ago, when the wireless internet kept dropping out and required me to type the passcode back in to gain access (I thought this was wierd as it is supposed to remember this info).
The next stage of this was the router disapeared completely off my airport list, after navigating through the forum pages I found that broadcasting on a different channel usually works, it was on 13 I dropped it down a couple and we had wireless internet once again.
As of recent, my router seems to of randomly reset itself after speaking with TalkTalk we got it back and running... but only on the PC. The element that had changed on the setup was (I may get this wrong) the router was pppoe and not pppoa (im not clued up on wireless networks an lingo, but I hope it provides some insight as to what happend).
The problem now is my macbook can see the router but the passcode (from the bottom of the router) does not work, everytime I type it in I get 'connection timed out' and it only works with a wired connection.
I hope I have provided enough info for you guys to help me out. I will be very appreciative of any insight you can offer.
    Thanks in advance
    Tom Hall

  • Wireless connectivity issues with Macbook Pro and At&t service HELP!!!!!

I have three Computers two PC's and one Macbook Pro( the latest model). My desktop PC is used by ethernet, my girls laptop is used wirelessly and finally my MBP was being used wirelessly.
I started off with only the two PCs and my internet connection never had a problem and I was doing everything from: on the internet to downloading.
Before I bought my MBP I had also switched from internet and phone bundle to just internet from At&t service. So when I got my first MBP I notice that I was loosing wireless connection with both my girls pc laptop and my MBP so i thought it was because I had just switched service, though they send out a service technician and we came to a conclusion that it was the MBP. (I was loosing signal via wireless and ethernet). So we tried to see if both my girls laptop(wireless) and my PC desktop (ethernet) would run into the same issue which it did not.(MBP was turned off)
So I decided to go my nearest Apple store and let them know what was going on. So I told them what was going on and they said It must be the airport card, and they ended up changing it. When I get home I discover that not only I am having the same issue but other issues too. I went back they ran some diagnostic and they said it was defective and they gave me a new one few days later.
So in the mean time that I waited for my new one to arrive I used my PC desktop and my girl kept using her laptop and guess what no issue what so ever for one whole week. Now I receive my new MBP(they bumped the specs a little), went home set it up and still the same issue though I dont have the issue when Im using via ethernet. Just a view minutes ago I tried removing the ethernet and using the airport/wireless and within a few minutes I lost the signal.
    I have the gateway 2WIRE model(2701HG-B) modem/router.
Is there something wrong? what do I have to do to make this work?

Hi Guys, I bough my Mac almost two years ago. All this time I have experienced the same issue. There are tons of discussions re this issue in the internet. Unfortunately, Apple has done nothing to fix it. I have tried a lot of different options, but they work no longer then 1-2 days. The official fix - does not exist so far. It is quit strange, isn't? I can share my experience: if you go to AirPort Utility - Manual Setup - Wireless and then change Channel, it could help you till the moment you restart your computer; next time you need to repeat it again. It takes 2 minutes. Not sure that it would work for you but you could give it a try. Well, not the best option. Anyway Apple must fix it asap! Hello Apple, do you hear us? Good luck.

  • Issues with Macbook Pro and Analog TV

    Hey all,
I've got a VGA converter so I can use the Apple Mini Displayport to VGA adapter to connect my 2011 Macbook Pro to a 28ish inch Panasonic analog TV. Initially, the computer wasn't detecting the TV at all, so, on the advice of the internet I reset the PRAM. Now I do have a picture, it's just absolutely horrible. The image is in black and white, is constantly scrolling quickly across the screen vertically, and is flickering. I updated my software and restarted, but to no avail. I'm not sure where to do from here, and would love help from someone with some actual knowledge (I'm pretty decent with computers, but mainly because I'm able to google stuff and just follow the directions - couldn't find anything so I'm at a loss).
Thanks in advance, and let me know if you need any more info from me.

I had this problem earlier and was able to solve it by checking the display setting in the System Prefrences. This link will help you. http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=B%26sec tion=4%26tasks=true
