Issue with macbook pro Hi-res antiglare purchace

So the story goes that I went to buy a 15 inch mb pro from the apple store in indianapolis in. I walked in with cash, and walked out with nothing.
I bought and returned 3 macbook pro's in a row due to slight problems with the screen. All three macbooks were the high end 2.3 ghz model with the hi- res anti glare screen. All three had the same issue... the viewable portion of the screen was ever so slightly off center. 2 of them were worse than the other one, but none of them were perfect. And when I am paying upper 2000's for a computer I expect perfection. In addition to this problem, one of the computers screens was not perfectly square, and one of the screens also had a very SMALL (almost unnoticable) amount of light leak at the bottem right corner.
So my problem is that I still want a macbook pro. However, I don't want to be forced to buy another computer that I can't see first. The fact that they do not have a cash back return policy means that if I have to return the computer, I will walk out with no money, and once again have to wait for a check from apple. I am not a fan of banks either. Also, the Aplle store manager refused to let me continually return computers until I got a perfect one.
What should I do? I still want a macbook pro, and the only viable competitor in the HP envy series has not even been updated yet to have competitive power. I will not accept any computer that has an imperfect screen though. I am anal.

I see several posts regarding the 2011 pro in this category.
They are confused by the forum names if they are in this forum. Happens a lot. The labeling for the MacBook Pro forums is somewhere between dismal and abysmal. Were is not for people here requesting posts be moved to the proper forums, we'd be up to our ears in posts for newer MBPs with black keys and different technology and display options than found in the older silver-key MBPs.
This forum, poorly labeled "MacBook Pro (Original)," is for those made prior to the date of introduction of the MacBook Pro 5,1 which was October 2008. Anything newer, including current MBP offerings, falls into the other forum area I;ve linked. I'm not being picky--I'm trying to get you to a group f people who have the most experience with current production MacBook Pros and, hopefully, better response than you are getting here.

  • Blue tooth issues with macbook pro late 2011

I purchased the new beats pill and havinng issues with connectivity with macbook pro. My Iphone works well. Any suggestions

I have a similar issue.  Have you had any luck with a fix, yet?  I have a Samsung sound bar, and my Ipad and Iphone both connect with no issues. The playback is uninterrupted with fine sound quality.  My 2011 13" Macbook Pro connects, however playback often sounds like a scratched CD.  Last year I called both, Samsung and Apple, and when all was said and done it was recommended that I bring the then brand new sound bar and my Macbook to an Apple Store.  Any suggestions I are appreciated.

  • Issue with MacBook Pro charger?

    Hello,
I bought my MacBook Pro 15" in October 2009. I hardly ever take it out of my place. Senior Apple adviser told me, that the battery in my computer is factory calibrated, so bassically I treat my laptop as iMac. It's connected to the charger all the time. When I'm done using it, I either put it to sleep or shut it down. Two days ago I noticed: (Not Charging) by the icon of the battery. Apparently the charger stopped charging. It's MagSafe charger with T style connector. From what I've been reading in disscussion forum regarding charger issues, it looks like perhaps this charger needs to be replaced.
But the interesting part is, that the green led on the connector holds steady since (Not Charging) appeared two days ago, and also, the battery power dropped only to 94% and holds steady as well.
So this makes me wonder, is there something wrong with the charger, or is it something else?
My computer knowhow is limited, so any information or tip will be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • After several repairs, still having heating issue with MacBook Pro (mid '09)

EDIT: this post got removed the first time for not being constructive enough. I've now edited the post.
This is going to be a lengthy post, so bear with me.
2 months ago, I suddenly noticed my MacBook Pro (medio 2009, 15", 4GB RAM, GeForce 9400M) heating up a lot harder than usual. I'm familiar with the heating issues these laptops have, but this wasn't normal. Looking at iStat Pro, I saw my fans almost taking off like an airplane at 5700 rpm, while watching only a livestream on my browser. I know Shockwave Flash takes up quite a chunk of your CPU, but I had never encountered this problem beforehand.
The biggest problem wasn't just the heat or the fans, but the fact that my computer also started reacting rather slowly. Sometimes I'd even get beachballed, or the whole browser stopped responding for half a minute...
So I tried to see if gaming was still an option. Of course not. I had been playing League of Legends for several months without any issues. Whilst playing, I'd kick up my fans manually to about 4000 rpm, and they'd stay there throughout the whole game. Now, when I start up the game, it plays smoothly for the first 2 minutes. After the temperatures rise to a critical level, the fans start spinning up to 5700 rpm, and the whole game plays like a powerpoint presentation.
On a sidenote: it sort of 'lags' every 1-2 seconds, and sometimes, after a long period, the game acts somewhat normal again (20 mins). This game uses wine to run, which isn't the most optimal way. So I tried playing Team Fortress 2, too. Probably even worse results! (but again noticeable 1-2 second interval lags)
Before anyone starts screaming: "Don't use your Mac for gaming!" etc., I wish to point out that these two games had been running perfectly for the past few months/years. Something's definitely wrong.
After looking for some solutions myself, I decided to go to an authorized Apple Service in my city. A few days later, they told me my logic board was broken, and I had to pay almost 700 euros ($ 900-1000) to replace it. So I did. I got it back, but it wasn't fixed. Brought it back in. Got it back a week later: "Your new logic board we got from Apple was already broken, but we hadn't noticed. We put a new one in it. It's fixed." Again, same problem.
We're almost 2 months later and 700 euros poorer, still no result. I've brought it in about 6-7 times now, here's a list of what they've tried so far:
    - In total 3 new logic boards
    - New MagSafe (because they discovered it was giving too much power too my laptop)
    - Fresh re-install
    - Replaced RAM
    - Checked fans etc. (they do this by default)
    - A few tests which proved that it was repaired (but I have my doubts with these tests...)
They told me now that it's fixed, and they basically won't look into it anymore. I must contact Apple myself, if I wasn't satisfied. The tests they performed showed no signs of heating issues. (One of the tests was playing 4 1080p movies at the same time. When I watch a 1080p movie on Youtube, my laptop is taking off like a plane) They ran a stress test all night long, showing no temperatures above 98°C. I got it up to 105°C in a few minutes according to iStat Pro.
They advised me to install Mountain Lion, which would make the issues with "high-performance sites" go away. I haven't seen much improvement, though.
This whole experience has been quite frustrating, especially now that I'm gonna need my laptop for University again. Isn't there anything I can do? I've paid almost 700 euros and missed my laptop for 2 months, without any results.
I've got more information regarding the issues if needed, ask away. I'm getting desperate.
I've been browsing around the support communites, and found that a lot of people are having issues since they upgraded to OS X Lion. Could this be the case? Should I try downgrading to Snow Leopard?
I've also found a few topics on refreshing the cooling pasta on the heatsink. Would they have noticed any problems with this after replacing the Logic Board several times? Or should I check it myself? I'm not too keen on opening up my laptop myself...
    Nick.

    Thought of buying Parallels? Fusion?
Might want to see if this gets moved to the MacBook Pro forum.
I'd think Windows 8.1 is smart enough (what I use 90% time since the Dev Preview came out couple yrs ago it seems like) to find the driver.

  • Issue with MacBook Pro (mid 2009) wifi multiple AP signal 'confusion'

I'll try to explain this as best I can, not being an expert in networking!
I recently upgraded my router from a Linksys WRT160N to an Airport Extreme, in the hope that it would do a better job of broadcasting a stronger wifi signal throughout my house. Whilst it is improved, it's still no good enough for streaming to my iPad 2 where I want in the house. Reading around on the web I discovered that I should be able to use the Linksys as an AP to extend the effective range of my wifi network, as long as it is hardwired into the base station via Ethernet (no WDS support on the Linksys model).
So, I managed to get this all up and running, disabling the dchp on the Linksys, fixed ip allocation etc and using the same SSID and passwords etc. All is well with the iPhone and iPad2 access - they just automatically switch to the strongest signal no problem when I move around the house. Cool.
The issue lies with the MBP - I have a favoured spot in the house where both the broadcast signal from the AEBS and Linksys are very strong, and the MBP gets all confused. opening up the lid from standby it searches for the wifi (bar moving up and down the signal indicator) and then just has an exclamation mark. I try to manually select the SSID but no dice. I have to switch the MBP adaptor off and on, rescan avail networks, and lo and behold two versions of my SSID are shown. Select one and then it connects. However, I have to go through this whole exercise every time I pull the MBP out of standby, which is very irritating.
I do have a workaround - if I name the SSID on the Linksys something different, the problem goes away. However, i effecktively now have 2 wireless networks & I then have to manually switch between the two SSID's to get the strongest signal depending where I am in the house. It's suffices for now but not ideal.
What I don't get is why is it only the MBP affected & the iPhone & iPad 2 are fine? Is this anything to do with the 2.4 ghz & 5 ghz being broadcast by the AEBS getting all mixed up with just the 2.4 ghz being broadcast from the Linksys??? Both 2.4 & 5 ghz are broadcasting the same SSID.
    Any help appreciated.

OK - fixed this now. By setting the 5 Ghz channel on the AEBS to a different SSID and putting this to the top of my priority WIFI connections on the MacBook Pro then it ignores the conflict between the 2.4 Ghz networks being broadcast by the Linksys & AEBS. No more hanging connection when I resume the MBP

  • Resolution issue with macbook pro 13 (late 2013) and dell u2711

I have a Dell U2711 (native resolution 2560x1440) that I use without issue with a macbook pro late 2007 (running 10.10.x), various iMacs and Macbook air 2011 running 10.10. When I say without issue, the display works at its native resolution.
Last week we got a MacBook Pro 13in, late 2013 model.
If I connect this macbook via either thunderbolt connection to the u2711 using either DVI port on the dell, the maximum resolution that I can use is 1920x1080. I am using apple mini displayport to DVI adaptors (I have tried 2 different ones and 2 different DVI cables, with no improvement). Clicking option + scaled in sys prefs does not give the native resolution as an option.
However, I just discovered that if I use a DVI to HDMI adaptor and I connect the macbook to the display I get the full native resolution without issue (2560x1440).
I have zapped the pram, powered down the display etc etc etc and it made no difference.
I would prefer to use the mini DIsplayPort to DVI adaptor rather than HDMI, any suggestions appreciated.
    TIA.

  • Networking issues with MacBook Pro

I have tried to find this issue on line and in the forums and couldn't   I have seen many people have similar issues using VPN connections or Citrix but nothing what I am seeing.  I have 3 MacBook Pros that connect fine to our company network.  They have the DNS settings from our DHCP server and I can see their leases and everything.  We can connect to network drives however we can't connect any of them to the company's intranet sites.  If we type in http://companysite  and hit enter both Safari and Firefox come back stating that they can't find the server companysite.  Not sure why it is looking for a server by the name of companysite when our DNS servers point to the servers that are hosting the sites.
If I type in the IP address of any company site then it works however using the name doesn't.  So it sounds like an issue with DNS but again the DNS servers are in the network settings and Windows machines have no issues with using the http://companysite instead of using http://IP Address.  Any assistance would be appreciated.

OK, figured out that if I added my company's domain to the search domain list in Network Settings this would allow the MacBook to use http://companysite instead of the IP Address.  However now I need to figure out the authentication issue.  We use the end user's network credentials for access to the company intranet sites.  Using http://companysite I get access denied.  Using the IP address allows the end user to enter in their network credentials.

  • Sleep Issues with Macbook Pro

    Hi all,
When I wake my laptop (15" Spring 2011 Macbook Pro) while it's connected to a power source, I see the screen for a split second before it goes black. Nothing I do will make the screen come back until I disconnect the power source, at which point the screen gets bright again.
However, what's interesting is that while the screen is black, the computer still gets input from the keyboard because I can see things that I've typed in the password field.
Is there any way to fix this?
    Thanks in advance!

  • 2 issues with MacBook Pro Retina - Fan randomly speeds up and USB3.0 Issues

So I just purchased a brand new MacBook Pro Retina 15" 2.40GHz.
Randomly, when nothing but finder is open, the fans will spin at full speed.
I have opened every application on the machine including serato, ableton, photoshop, VLC playing a 1080P movie, iTunes playing music and youtube playing videos in 2 tabs - and the fans do not spin as fast at it does when nothing is open or running (confirmed with activity monitor too).
Secondly, once I eject a USB3.0 drive from the machine, I have to reboot the system before the drive can be mounted, or even recognized at all by the computer. (it does not even show up in disk utility till the reboot). this happens with 2 seperate USB3.0 external hard drives that work fine on other rMBPs. This happens with both usb ports too.
I have reset SMC, PRAM, ran all Apple updates as well as reinstalled the operating system (as well as booted from a known good system in target disk mode).
    Please help

There are a few threads reporting the fan issues you are dealing with which you might want to look at. I have now experianced it with four brand new 2013 rMBP.

  • Input issues with macbook pro

    Hi all,
I have a new MacBook Pro and it has an issue that i can't seem to sort.
Intermittently using any input device (Touch Mouse, Track Pad) i cannot click on some icons, or tabs, or buttons.
I have applied all updates and am now on Lion with no effect. I have also ensured that my left clicking does not have two fingers on the input device etc.
It happens in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and finder......
    Any ideas???????
    Many thanks
    John

Well, if you are on the road you could try to do this:
    1. boot with the Alt key pressed
    2. select the recovery drive
    3. reinstall Lion
Hope you left a backup at home!
    Good luck...

  • Screen Issues with MacBook Pro (Static Lines)

Hey guys.  I aam having problems with my Screen/Display on my Macbook Pro.
Static lines appear aprox 1/3 of the way in from the right side.  The lines run horizontally about 1 inch in length and running vertically all the way down the display. A screen shot shows a normal working display.  Took a pic of the problem:
I cannot run hardware tools.  My computer did not come with a disc and I know they are only a shipping charge but I do not have even $5.  I am a student and this is my only way to do my schoolwork.  The Screen (inner display and outer protective screen) was replaced by Apple in May '12.  The 1 yr warranty ran out in June '12.  When the screen was replaced it started doing this as well, but had not gotten this bad.  There are now 2 where there was only one yesterday.  I am wondering if it may be the cable as moving the display often fixes or produces the problem.   I know the cable is not very expensive and not to difficult to replace.
Here is the info on my Mac:
    Nice Name:
    Machine Model: MacBookPro9,1
Name: MacBook Pro (mid 2012) 15 inch
    Family name: A1286
    Model Number: MD103
    Group1: MacBook
    Group2: Pro
    Generation:
    CPU speed: 2.3GHz
    Screen size: 15.4 inch
    Screen resolution: 1440x900 pixels
    Colour: Aluminium
    Production year: 2012
    Production week: 13  (April)
    Model introduced: 2012
    Memory - flavour: DDR3-S-1600
Memory - number of slots: 2
    Memory - maximum total: 16GB
    Memory - largest module: 8GB
Factory: C0 (Quanta Computer (Susidiary = Tech Com))

It is getting worse in the sense that it is occuring more often and taking longer to resolve.  Moving the laptop lid/display would typically fix the prblem in the past but now it is hit or miss.  Even vibrations will cause the issue to occur or resolve.  We are leaning more towards the issue being a cable and not the display.  Since taking a screenshot produces a pic without issues I would gather that the video card is fuctioning properly.  I welcome any comments on this.

  • Sound Issues with macbook pro 13" and external display

Hey guys I have a 13" macbook pro from mid 2012 with 8 gb ram and the i7 processor. About a year ago I bought a thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and hdmi cable to use my 32 in tv as a monitor. It worked flawlessly and I never experienced the flickering issue people have been talking about. The tv is only 720p so the picture wasn't as clear as it should be. I was also tired of using a pullout desk and thought the 32 in was a little too big so a couple weeks ago I added an entire desk setup in the corner and bought a brand new 24 in Vizio E241i--a1 and mounted it on the wall as a monitor. This tv is the full 1080p. Ever since then, I have had trouble with the sound playing from the macbook>displayport-hdmi adapter>hdmi cable>monitor. I select the monitor as the output device and sometimes it will actually play and sometimes it will not. I mostly use the macbook in clamshell mode when at my desk but sometimes I have both screens on. No matter what if the sound has stopped working it will not go back. If I select the macbook speakers as the output then it will play through the macbook speakers. But once I switch back to the hdmi output for sound it still will not work. The only thing I can do to fix it is to leave the macbook in clamshell mode and then restart it causing the monitor to be the main display at boot up. Once I got the new tv, I also started experiencing the flickering issue people have been talking about with the external monitor. I know it is not because of Mountain Lion because I had Mountain Lion when I used my old setup and never experienced either of these problems. Any ideas on what could be going on? Thanks in advance

Did you format the external drive for use with OS X?
Open Disk Utility. Does Disk utility see the connected drive?
Format it to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

  • Audio Issues with MacBook Pro (Late 2008)

I am seeing an occasional issue with my MacBook Pro (Late 2008). The Audio will go out... and instead you will just hear static-like clicking sounds when and audio even happens. For example... when you have the up/down volume notification on... and you change the audio volume.. you hear clicks. Or... when you open up a file that has audio.. you will hear the static-like click when the audio starts to try to play.
The work around per-se is to completely shutdown and turn the notebook back on. A simple restart does not seem to fix it... it looks like the system needs to have a bit of energy drain first. Which... worries me that this is a hardware issue and not a driver issue.
Wondering how many others are seeing this???

I went to and Apple Support Center last week and I asked some questions about audio because my MBP was having troubles too. The tech told me audio issues are very frequent on these machines and sometimes you have to change a part of the soundcard. He also added you have to bring the MBP to a support center if you're having the problem several times - in my case I'm waiting the next "crash" since I had only 2 issues so far... If you're under warranty go for a check up and see if it really needs assistance. Goodbye

  • Having issues with MacBook Pro and Verizon Mobile Hotspot

    Hey everyone,
I bought a MacBook Pro with the Lion OS. I recently switched to Verizon and got an HTC Thunderbolt so I could use it as a hotspot at home and when I travel.
The problem I am having is when I turn the Mobile Hotspot on is, it will connect and stay connected for anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes and then it will work intermittently after that until I turn it off. I've talked to Verizon Tech Support probably 30 times in the last 3 months about the issue. They sent me another SIM card and a new Thunderbolt at first. The issue did not go away, so they offered me a Samsung Charge. Got it and it did the same thing. So I told them to send me back a Thunderbolt, because its a better phone and the Charge was too glitchy.
I've been to the Apple Store twice now and they dont know why its happening either. The only thing that has remained constant throughout this whole troubleshooting process has been my MacBook Pro. My questions are: Is anyone else experiencing this type of behavior? and What could possibly be causing this issue?
Im a new Mac user, so Im not sure how to troubleshoot issues like this, or if there are compatibility issues Im not aware of.
    Thanks for your help,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
Did this ever get resolved for you? I have the exact same problem except I'm running Snow Leopard on a MacBook and my phone is a Droid Incredible 2. When I use the hopstpot from a ThinkPad running Windows 7 or a System76 netbook running Linux Mint it works perfectly. But when I try to use my MacBook it connects for, like you said, anywhere between 3-10 minutes and then connection is intermittent and super slow. I haven't gone through the motions of contacting Verizon yet...
    Thanks,
    Aileen

  • Network Issues with Macbook Pro Retina will Apple Router solve issues?

Hi, I just purchased a Macbook Pro Retina 15" and have been having major WIFI/Internet issues.  Slow connections, constant spinwheel of death, half loading pages if the website has a lot of images (Facebook, etc).  Sometimes I have to wait a fair bit of time and they may eventually load, or I'll have to close the browser and reload the page.
In the area I live in, Bell offers only Fibe 5.1 (802.11 g/b) at this time.  I wondered if I purchased a separate router with an 802.11n connection (and disabled the router on the 2Wire modem from Bell), would this solve my issues or is Fibe 5.1 just unable to handle the new "n" technology/speed.  I'd like to utilize this computer the way it was meant to be used, but the internet connection that I have leaves much to be desired.  Bell won't be upgrading in my area for at least 6-12 months from what they tell me and I refuse to switch to Robbers (I mean Rogers).

I hate to go into a long rant but you may be able to fix your problem by just changing the channel on your 2wire router  from ma Bell. They all come with the channel set to a default setting of channel 6 change it to 10. If you are in a high traffic area and they are all set on six you see where this is going.  I have a 2 Wire in a high traffic area and I changed mine and it worked like a charm.
    Hope this helps
    Don Morgan

Hi every body! Last August I bought my first Mac, a Macbook Pro 15''. Less than two months after that, I have the next problem: when I want insert any CD/DVD on the SuperDrive, It doesn't accept it (it doesn't get the CD/DVD inside the Mac). But if I
