Issue with mailbox in Time Machine

Hello,
I did a back up with my Time Machine before replacing my HDD with a NEW  HDD.
I want to recover all data in Time machine to my New HDD but it's not working. Time machine is not detected in boot option but shows up on desktop. When i enter Time Machine, The back ups from the New HDD allows system restore but the old HDD back up will not allow me to restore my system with it.  I have the full back of the old HDD.  I have seen errors Saying that is not the original version and unable to locate the original.
At the end, i did a manual restore, But i am having problem with my mailboxs. My old emails which is over 3000 are missing in my inbox. I am receiving new mails with no problems. I  really want to have my old emails back to my inbox ....is important to me.  I used POP configuration in entourage.
Please, can someone help me with a Step by Step guide to get my emails back? Or if possible install my Old HDD backup from Time machine.
Thanks in Advance.
NB: I have little experience with MAC / leopard.

Thanks.
This is all in the Time Machine interface, right?
I'm only guessing here, and someone else may see this and correct me, but it may be that as you go back in the TM interface to particular points in time, TM displays only files meeting the search criteria +which were modified on that date+.
Here's my reason for that speculation:
I did a search in TM for a file named "Gray01" which exists on my source drive now, and when I clicked the big "back" arrow in TM it went back a few days (even though that file existed on my drive every day in between) and stopped at the last-modified date, and then when I clicked the "back" arrow again it did the same thing, until I got to the creation date.
This may be implementation of a feature. "Mac 101: Using Time Machine" indicates:
+Besides restoring deleted files, Time Machine can restore previous versions of an existing file. For example, if you made changes to a really important presentation, then accidentally saved unwanted changes to the original file, Time Machine can restore the previous version, and preserve the current version too!+
So while you may have a number of files meeting your search criteria that existed in a particular backup, when you navigate in the TM window to that particular date and time TM first sees all the files that meet your criteria but then filters its display to only those which were modified on that particular date.
This would make sense to me if TM is designed to enable you to locate a particular prior version of a file.
What do you think?

  • I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work. Help?

I just restored my 13" MBP i5 at the apple store to the newest version of Lion after issues with a previous Time Machine backup from Snow Leopard- this time I created a new account and just ported files and folders, and now MS Office doesn't work.
^^ that's the main problem. Here's the full history.
I bought a new 13" i5 MBP, early 2011 edition. I had an old white Macbook 2.14 ghz core2duo on Snow Leopard. I attempted to port over my time machine backup, but encountered problems in that my User was inaccessible from the new computer after the import finished, and I had to go in and change the root password, etc, and for some reason or another, I couldn't install any programs at all from that administrator's account. By "couldn't" I mean I could install them, but upon installation they would never boot. So, I took it to the apple store and did a clean install from the most up to date Lion OSX. Then, I created a brand new admin account, instead of trying to import the old one, and things seemed great. Then, I just imported my old files from the TM backup, but not any system settings, permissions, or user data. Just my Docs, pics, vids, apps, and itunes stuff.
Here's where things get weird again. I imported this stuff under the name "old", but all of these folders have a red negative sign on them, marking them as restricted. So, from my main admin account, I cannot even peruse these folders. Since I didn't import user data, I can't sign in to the "old" account to change permissions. I already tried to change the permissions from system preferences, but that didn't change anything. And now, for whatever reason, of all the apps that were imported then, MS Office is the only set of apps that does not work. When I click on it, it just says there was a problem and asks if I'd like to send a report to apple. I tried reinstalling it to no avail. I'm an English student, so i really need access to Word. Can anyone help? The Apple store is a major detour for me and would like to fix this issue myself.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
    NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)

  • Issues with restoring a Time Machine backup onto new Macbook Pro Retina

I recently got a new Macbook Pro Retina and I've been trying to restore a Time Machine backup made today from my old Macbook Pro laptop. I didn't restore from the first start up (foolishly, seemingly) simply because of the trivial reason of wanting to see the system all clean and new.
I've tried the Migration Assistant but it gets stuck on "looking for source..", despite having the ex.HD plugged in and double checking the existance of the backup itself on the ex.HD.
I've also tried booting the laptop up in the 'restore' mode (cmd R) and restoring from there but it sends me in a constant loop of 'this backup was from a previous model of laptop' or something to that affect. It also doesn't display the recent backups at all, only displaying those from the beginning of this year for some reason. All backups are in the same place on the ex.HD so its not an issue with locating the backups.
Really stuck on this one! Would really appreciate some help!
Thanks a lot, and merry Christmas

Yes, you can restore to another machine if needs be.

  • Access mailboxes in time machine back up

My hard drive crashed and I had to replace it with a new one.
On my previous drive I was running Mountain Lion, I upgraded to Maverick on the new drive.
I have my previous drive backed up on time machine, but was unable to restore from a time machine back up, before installing Maverick (files corrupted)
I absolutely need to get back my old mailboxes from Time Machine !
How do I access the hidden library in my time machine back up?
Now that I have Maverick, it is not entering my Mountain lion back ups when I enter time machine.
The back ups are of course vivible on my finder desktop on the back up drive.
Is there a way to access the hidden library in the time machine back up without entering time machine?

I am accessing through the TM interface. The TM interface has multiple folders on this particular weeks back-up. Some I can access and get to the files inside and some I do not have access to. Unfortunately, the folder I want to access and find the single file contains over 200,000 files. If I were to restore the folder, it would overwrite three months worth of files and make them outdated. I need to get access into the folder and restore that individual file.
Is there a way to restore on a second external drive to keep out current files in tack?

  • Emails in restored mailbox from Time Machine are not visible

I have an IMAC 5.1 with OSX 10.6.8. When I restored a mailbox using Time Machine, the mailbox appears in Apple Mail however no emails are visible even though they are present in the folder in library/mail/mailboxes in Finder. Any suggestions on how I can make the emails visible?
    Thanks

I managed to find the solution.  In Mail under Mailbox in the header there is a Rebuild button.  I pressed it and my emails are now visible.

  • Issue with site load time when exported as HTML. Addressed?

Has the issue with website load time been addressed?
I believe the site attempts to load the entire image content at the initial visit - meaning any galleries with numerous pictures are all included when first getting to the site. This is causing a HUGE increase in load time. I was told when I last brought it up that it was an apparent issue that needed to be addressed.
    Any type of resolution coming?
    Site for reference: www.dkrecollection.com

Major updates of Muse are targeted to release roughly every quarter. The 1.0 release was in mid-May. The 2.0 release was in mid-August. A fundamental change to image loading would only appear as part of a major update due to the engineering and testing efforts required.
As provided in your previous thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/4659347#4659347 the only workaround until then is to reduce the number of images in the slideshow.

It's not real clear what you want to do.
Do you mean you don't want to back up your personal data at all, just the operating system?  If so, why?  Usually it's the personal data -- documents, photos, videos, etc., that are most important to folks, so should be backed-up.
Or do you mean, you have some sensitive data that you don't want anyone to be able to recover if they get your backup disk?  If so, Time Machine can encrypt the backups, so anyone without a backup can't recover anything.
    Or something else?

  • I need help with setting up time machine for backup

I would like help with setting up time machine for backup.

You will need an external hard drive (formatted for a Mac).
Then you plug it in and go to system preferences>time machine and select the external HD and turn it on.
    The backups are automatic.

  • Restore deleted mailboxes fro  time machine

I have accidentally deleted an email account and lost all the emails. They are on my time machine backup somewhere, but I can't find them because it doesn't show the user library. Does anyone know how to restore mailboxes from time machine back onto my macbook air please? (OS 10.7.5)

Bring the Mail browser window forward, then enter Time Machine. Scroll back in the time-travel view to the most recent snapshot containing the messages you want to restore. Select the messages, then click Restore. The messages will be restored to a new mailbox. From there you can move them wherever you like.

You might have better luck using a clone.
Clone  - Carbon Copy Cloner          (Often recommended as it has more features than some others)
    Clone – Data Backup

  • Blank Mailbox But Time Machine Sees Them

Yesterday I tried to rebuild a mailbox but my iMac crashed almost immediately.
After re-starting, the mailbox I was trying to re-build was now empty.  I loaded up Time Machine with Mail open, and Time Machine displayed the e-mails even on the current setting, as if there was nothing wrong.
To be safe, I navigated back to the previous day and hit restore.  Nothing happened.  The mailbox is still empty.
I then tried manually navigating to the ~library/mail/v2 folder on Time Machine and manually copying the folder over for that mailbox.  This still didn't work.  I can't seem to see the mail in the folder though either.
What has happened to all my mail??

Help! I have the same issue, and renaming the disk is not helping. I renamed to to "TCDisk" (without the quotes of course) and it still does not work. Same problem occurs. The disk is renamed in Time Machine Preferences, but I still cannot select it. I enter my password once, and it turns TM off, and I enter it again and the slider stays "on" but the disk is not selected, and the "choose disk" option is still available. Also, the other computers on my network can select the drive as their Time Machine backup location. Only mine is not able to. I configured the TC through my machine, if that makes a difference. Do I need to change some other settings or what? Please help me out. Thanks a lot in advance.

  • How to retrieve accidentally deleted mailboxes from Time Machine?

I recently did a reinstall and, winding up with two Mail programs, trashed the one I was "sure" was the new, bogus one. Unfortunately, it was my original Mail program, including the mailboxes with letters from Swedish relatives, important addresses, etc. Going back into Time Machine I found strange-looking references to the boxes but couldn't figure out out to make any of it readable. I've come across advertisements for Disk Warrior, Tech Tool, and several other programs, and came close to buying them all at once before cooling down a bit. Any suggestions about avenues worth pursuing would be appreciated. (Or even if it's likely to be a lost cause.)
    Cap

There's the Mail program and there are stored 'mailboxes' with the data in them. Deleting a version of the Mail program shouldn't affect the latter. If that's all you've done then your mail data should be where it has always been. My guess (and I'm not an expert in Mail) is that you have ended up with a different version of Mail to the one you've been using and it doesn't store its mailboxes in the same way so isn't finding your data. I would suggest asking the question of the Mail forum and give them the version number of the Mail program you have and any info you have about the version you deleted.

  • How do I restore iCloud mailboxes from Time Machine without losing new mail?

This morning when I opened my laptop and checked my email, Apple Mail decided to flag every single email in my three separate Apple-related accounts ([email protected],[email protected], and [email protected])—some 14,500+ emails total. None of the emails in my comcast or yahoo accounts were affected. Of course, each of the three accounts is set to download copies to my laptop as well as keep them on the server, so now all of those emails are flagged across the board—on my iMac, my iPhone, my iPad mini as well as my laptop. Yay. Since some of the emails were actually flagged intentionally by me over time, I don't want to just unflag everything or I'll lose my flags as well as the ones spontaneously generated this morning.
    My questions are:
    1) If I use a Time Machine backup from last night to restore the three affected mailboxes, will iCloud accept them as the de facto most up-to-date versions, or do I still have to go through some complicated process in order to convince the cloud that the 14,500+ unflagged emails don't then need to be "updated" to flagged status?
    2) More importantly, will the cloud still sync properly so that I still get all of the emails that came since last night? I'm fine if the absence of the more recent emails from the "new" (actually older TM) mailboxes is interpreted as though they've been deleted, since my preferences are set to keep deleted email on the server for a month. But it would be a problem if those emails simply disappear into the ether.
    3) Does anyone have any idea what might have caused the random flagging in the first place and/or suggestions for keeping it from happening in the future?
I remember vaguely that in the early days of Time Machine, restoring iCloud mailboxes was a complicated process in order to trick the cloud into accepting the Time Machine backup as the latest and greatest version. I take it that's no longer such a tricky proposition nowadays, since a search of Apple's knowledge base yielded little information on it. I'd appreciate some confirmation on that, however, so I know what to expect after the restore.
    Thanks!
I'm going to try cross-posting this issue in both the iCloud and Time Machine forums since it's some of both. Apologies in advance if that causes confusion.

I set up an admin account for myself, logged on to it, and then followed the procedure in the help file to delete his account, saving it as a .dmg file.  Then, when he asked for his old emails, I followed the procedure in the help file to restore a deleted user account and copied the contents of the .dmg into it.
I'm not entirely confident I got the restoration sequence right, since I find the order of steps in the help file confusing. But everything except the Mail data seems to be recovered.
Another source of trouble may be the email account settings:  when I opened Mail under his log-on, there were no accounts set up: I recreated them using his email address and password, but Mail may well be treating these as new accounts, rather than re-opened old accounts.
    Thanks, John

  • Unable to empty trash with data from Time Machine Drive

    Hi there,
    Cause of the current issue:
I am hoping the experts can help me with this one. I have an external hard drive which is used for my Time Machine Backups. Recently there has been an error on the backup to this drive on occasion. This error only occurs when the system does the back up, and appears only periodically, never when I do the back up manually. One of the threads I read to solve this issue is to delete some older backup files from your time machine drive, and all is good. This worked for awhile.... but now a new problem:
    New Problem:
I have been able to empty all of the trash save one particular set of folders. So the trash always appears with content.
The structure of the trash content appears as such...
    Macintosh HD
    +-Users
    +--<username>
    +---Library
+----FK6T0KGc9y4KBB <-- This changes each time I try to empty the trash.
The library folder always has the time/date of the last time I tried to empty the trash.
    What I have tried:
    1. I have tried to empty the trash Securely. No good.
    2. I have tried the terminal command : sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash with no success
    3. I have tried this terminal command : sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash/* with no success
    4. I have tried just plain old Empty Trash. But I get the message "This operation cannot be completed because the item 'FK6T0KGc9y4KBB' is in use.
    Any thoughts, recommendations?

Hey thanks for the help anyway VK.
I tried that command and no go either.

I am wondering, would it make sense to try this same command if I were to do a safe boot?
What about formatting the external hard drive and starting fresh?

We are having a issue with the Developer tool in Excel called the Date and Time Picker which puts a calendar field into the spreadsheet where you can select a date from the calendar popup
If we change this date field and then save and close and reopen it reverts back to the previous date before the change was made
If we do the same process on a Windows 7 machine with Office 2013 it saves the changes we made to the Date and Time picker field

    Hi jdono2,

Please make sure you have already upgraded to the latest version of excel, try to reregister the MSCOMCT2.OCX.
Also you can try to use another date picker add-in to test this issue.
